I don't go to this spot often but it's definitely a neighborhood haven for folks who live or frequent this area. Everyone's super chill and the bartenders are kind and attentive. I had a tequila gimlet and it was so tasty. The perfect amount of sweet, tart and tequila kick. I actually came here before maybe once or twice and hadn't been for a while. Then I gotta invited to this spot for the date from hell lol. The man showed up super late and had the audacity to have an attitude with me for being upset. Trust I never saw that man again, paid for all of my own drinks, even though I had been invited out and he downed his drink so fast so he could 'leave me first' that it was thee most pathetic and immature sorry sight I ever did see, from a grown man. The bartenders were so kind about it and even said waiting 45 minutes for anyone was a no-no and that his behavior was unacceptable! I agree. I'd definitely go back in the future. Sycamore bar is a perfect Friday night. The drinks are strong and come out quickly. But this is not a cocktail bar, this is a literal watering hole. Order some liquor and enjoy the heated patio or dimly lit bar. The space, especially outside is perfect for groups. The bartenders were friendly and fast. Also, you can bring food or have takeout delivered to the bar. Which is literally my favorite thing ever. My group got chips and guac from the taco truck outside, and some Chinese food on the corner. What can I say about this spot? It was a spur of the moment vibe on a Sunday night after listening to steel pans in Prospect Park. I was with my bestie & she could not make up her mind on where to go. She opt for Cortelyou Rd. Okay. Walked inside were it's dimly lit & lightly buzzing. I always come to this bar but tonight the new bartenders here are not friendly at all. Especially the one with a little Pony tail miss the old ones who have great customer service. They don't seem to want to help or show any type of hospitality when you ask for suggestions it's just a shrug. I've been to Sycamore so many times but I have never reviewed it until now. I love the idea of a bar that sells beer and flowers since my husband loves beer and I'm not much of a drinker but I do love flowers. It's a win-win situation. Loved the flowers when Stems was here but love Honeysuckle Hill just as much. You know when dive bars have that distinctive smell? Well, Sycamore doesn't quite have that smell, but it does give off a divey kind of feel. I appreciate their outdoor space in the summer and their cute little cabin motif in the winter. They also have different types of classes/events at this space... whether it's a flower arranging workshop, bingo, horoscope night, or a painting class. They have a full bar with a fine selection, as far as I can tell. They recently got a frozen margarita machine which is awesome for the hot summer days. They also started serving food from next door (The Farm on Adderley) but you have to order it online and pick it up in their backyard. Be aware that nobody under 21 is allowed in past 5 pm and no strollers are permitted inside. All the bartenders are nice and you meet some interesting people at the bar and overhear some weird conversations. P.S. $10 for a pint of beer and a cute bouquet of flowers! read more

Quality: During our visit I went with a Frozen Margarita, while my wife selected a Pain Killer. The Frozen Margarita was very sour and could have benefited from added sweetness, but it was still okay. The Pain Killer was fine as well. The cocktail list looked like a lot of standards, but everything was made with high quality liquor. Quantity: No issues with the size or strength of drinks. Value: $13-$15 for Signature Cocktails. $12 for Frozen Cocktails. Ambiance: Sycamore Bar + Flowershop is located in Flatbush. I thought I understood the concept, but upon arrival I realized I didn't really get it. It just seemed like an extended bar without anything else. They had an area out-front with wobbly high-tops, a small weirdly arranged inside space that was very warm, and a large outdoor patio with benches and umbrella coverings that filled with cigarette smoke. The music was good, but it just was not comfortable anywhere, we ended up moving several times during our visit. Crowd: Busy, but not packed. I was drinking a double ipa craft beer that they had on draft. It was from evil twin brewery. This beer was delicious, as I love craft beers and I love ipa beers. They also had a nice overall selection of all kinds of different beers on both draft and in cans or bottles. If you enjoy listening to white people talk about the problems of PoC, then this is the bar for you. As mixed as this neighborhood is, you wouldn't know that coming here. It's clientele can sometimes be overwhelmingly pretentious, especially true after reading about how this place needs redecorating, or having the nerve to think a bartender can't tell someone to fuck off. Its owners don't allow any buybacks, and some have even gotten suspended for taking care of their guests TOO graciously. Its such a bizarre state of what they are trying to do here, when in reality, the owners have no idea what makes a successful bar, and just throw every gimmick at it that they can. He stood behind the bar with his arms crossed over his chest staring at people straight faced and dryly asking customers "What's up?" to take their drink orders. I've been to this place about 7 years ago and I figured I give it another try. I went to meet up with a friend for the first time and I didn't like the bartenders attitude towards my friend. We were one of the few black people in there and we felt disconnected. The bartender was rude (bearded slim tall dark hair with a knit hat). He asked my partner if he wanted to open a tab and I don't think my friend understood or heard him properly and then he disrespectfully said "you clearly don't go out to bars much huh"? My friend did not care but I thought it was rude. There was also almost a fight. A customer and his crew were accused of bringing beer in from the bodega. I thought it was a joke, but an Asian woman came in the bar from the yard screaming about them stealing beer! So confusing....the group almost fought the bartender....hot ass mess.... As a bartender & paying customer who identifies with the difficulty of navigating this pandemic, i did my best to understand his lack of patience. But my goodness, he was so rude. OK so Sycamore is my favorite bar in Brooklyn! I was born and raised here so you can trust me. I want to give 4 stars instead of 5 because: The bartender who was working on the evening of September 21, 2021 is an asshole. It's not the first negative interaction I've had with him but at this point, I'm finished. Every other bartender who works at this establishment is respectful and kind and accommodating. I worked in the service industry for a number of years so I understand that sometimes it can be frustrating. This bartender however, is rude and condescending and genuinely does not like to help any patrons. Once again, this is my favorite bar in my neighborhood and this bartender is ruining the vibe completely-- he needs an attitude adjustment or to work at a snobby bar elsewhere. Came here on a rainy Sunday. There's like 3 different sections, some covered outdoor seating with make shift tents and some indoor seating. They had heat lamps but not enough to service every table. You have to go to the bar to order and get a bag of chips to fulfill the food with beverage law. They have a partnership with some restaurant where you order your food and the outside restaurant delivers it to your table which is cool I guess. The drinks were just ok. The happy hour was supposed to be $5 well drinks til 4 but I'm not quite sure that was the case. Very cool bar that also is conveniently a flower and plant shop in the day from 11am to 6pm. Valentines plans anyone? (I didn't know these prices still existed in nice bars), $1 off all draft beers/wines Monday-Friday 2pm-7pm and Weekends (Yes, EVEN THE WEEKEND) 12pm-4pm, Late Night Happy Hour (12am - 2am Mon-Thurs). They also have a special on alcohol for every single day. So that might convince you to come back every single day. One in particular caught my little eye on Wednesdays they do an awesome flight deal so you can sip a plethora of beers to your hearts content: 4 5oz pours of anything on tap for $9. Not bad. In warmer months they have an outdoor patio with a rotating selection of food vendors: Pop's Wings, El Super Tacos, Thai Food, Fish tacos, sausages, etc. The ambiance inside though since I was here on a blistery cold day about a month ago and didn't ever experience the outdoor food garden, is a combination of both sexiness and is classy with glowing bar tops and huge mirrors. But then it is also very laid-back and divey. There are also those plants. Though, this place is very tiny inside so get comfy or come early to get a seat at the bar. Was out having a nice night with my husband and a friend. When my husband stepped out, a regular at the bar sat himself down and proceeded to hit on us, insult us, etc. We tried to set boundaries but he wouldn't back off, and insulted us and our fanilies. When we eventually told him off and moved to the backyard, others who knew him were out there and while they acted sympathetic, it became clear that they all knew each other and were friendly with one of the bartenders. They all knew who had bothered us and said he had done it before. Really sad to cross this off our list of neighborhood bars but it's not a safe or comfortable space to hang out anymore. If you ever find yourself in the area, this is the place to go for an afternoon backyard beer. Doubling as a flower shop, Sycamore has the cozy Brooklyn backyard bar thing down solid. The walls on the buildings adjacent to the backyard are even covered in vegetation. Pretty sweet. Service is friendly and prompt and selection of beers and whiskeys is good and plenty. Came here earlier this year for the annual crawfish boil- which was unfortunately a tad disappointing. Not enough crawfish and seats and way too many grumpy people. This was a sweet spot to enjoy a cold glass of rosé on a hot summer night near the Cortelyou B/Q stop. My initial approach was in the dark, and even with Google maps, I had a little trouble finding the entrance, but some kind neighborhood folk who are probably used to interlopers looking confused pointed me on my way. Service at the bar wasn't over the top friendly (I had to wait a while to be noticed even though it wasn't super crowded), but the back patio area was very comfortable and not overly loud, and I didn't feel bad nursing a single drink over the course of an hour. I'm really sad to have to give such a terrible rating to a bar that I've liked very much in the 2+ years I've been visiting, but the way I was treated tonight has made me decide never to come here again, nor to ever visit Rusty Nail on Foster Ave. in Brooklyn, which is owned by the same people. I went with my partner to meet a friend at Sycamore around 8:00 PM today, Friday, March 12. We know that the bar closes at 11:00 PM and were prepared for any restrictions related to the closing time, particularly since we were sitting in their outdoor setup on the sidewalk. Everything was great until a little before 11:00 PM, when we were instructed to go inside. That was absolutely fine with us -- we love our neighborhood bars and want to do whatever we need to do to help them comply with the rules around COVID-19, which I know can be tricky. We went inside as instructed, with full drinks in hand, since they'd served us only a few minutes beforehand. However, once we were inside, we were screamed at (really -- this is not an exaggeration, it was like switch flipped and the previously relaxed, professional bartender and bar back were suddenly in a war zone) that we couldn't be drinking (again, that's fine, though not what we were told) and when I asked what we were supposed to do, the bartender literally screamed at me to stop arguing with him, protesting that he'd "been nice all day." I'm sure he has, and I'm sure that this is a difficult job to maintain during a pandemic; however, I have also been nice all day at my job and I don't really know what to do when I'm being screamed at for both doing exactly what I was told to do and also asking clarifying questions when I'm told that's wrong. He continued to yell at me to "stop drinking!!" when I had my mask fully on and was holding my full drink in my hand, trying to figure out what they wanted me to do. Finally, they screamed at me that I had to put my drink in a paper cup to take outside, which I complied with. This is honestly bizarre. It's like the bartender and bar back were performing for an audience I couldn't see. But at the end of the day, I don't know the rules and regulations bars are expected to follow! I'm happy to do what you tell me to do, but screaming at me isn't the solution. I don't know what kind of stress this bar is putting its employees under, but the two people working 8-11 tonight need to be given paid time off to rest if this is how they're interacting with people. I'm an adult woman with autism and I have a very thick skin when it comes to interacting with people; I know that I can misunderstand things sometimes and I know that it must be hard to shepherd a bunch of drunk people at the end of the night. But I was treated with utter vitriol in this bar for no reason, and the fact that the men around me weren't yelled at in a similar way makes me think that there's some element of misogyny here too. I will say that I've been to Sycamore many times at closing both pre-COVID and during COVID and have never experienced this kind of hostility from any of the other bartenders or bar backs, whom I've generally found to be lovely, even when explaining what we needed to do to comply with COVID regulations. However, I'm so shaken by the experience that I feel it outweighs any positive associations I have with the bar, and I'll be certain to share this negative assessment with everyone I know in the neighborhood. Do not go to Sycamore or to Rusty Nail. I'm more than happy to talk about this incident directly with bar management if they're interested. read more
