Whether you have never worked with clay before and are looking for a new creative outlet, have some experience, or are a skilled potter, Kingston Ceramics Studio has customizable programs of classes and studio memberships for all levels. My husband gave me a gift certificate for a private lesson several years ago, and we had a fantastic afternoon getting our hands dirty and learning to work with clay on the wheel. After that, I couldn't wait to go back to the studio and have been taking classes ever since. My schedule is crazy, but Lex offers a wide variety of class times and a unique flexibility that made it easy to find classes every week that work with my busy schedule. Lex and her team of teachers and assistants offer a great balance of individualized instruction paired with freedom to explore and create at your own pace making everyone feel supported and at home in the studio. The studio itself is a truly unique place in Kingston's historic Shirt Factory which has been converted into a community of artists studios and lofts. Its expansive windows, industrial loft ceilings, and historic details offer a one-of-a-kind and inspiring space with plenty of wheels and room for students and members to spread out an safely create. I brought my mom and sisters who had never worked with clay before for a private session, and Lex provided an unforgettable afternoon of laughter and creativity that made them all fall in love with wheel throwing and the studio. I visited Kingston Ceramics Studio in 2018 to see Alexis and the studio. Even before Covid, the studio was immaculately clean...an amazing feat for a ceramics studio! It is obvious that care is taken in making sure the student and members are safe, whether or not we are in the midst of Covid. Alexis, the owner, is incredibly thoughtful & generous and it comes through in the way her studio is run and in the programming she offers for both adults and kids. The feeling of community is clearly important from what I gather from the newsletters I receive from the studio. They offer free workshops and also participate in the annual Kingston Art Walk amongst other things. Also, I want to mention that Alexis is an incredible artist in her own right and a great supporter of other artists and creators. In other words, she is not only technically savvy but also a creative and supportive human being - a rare combination to find in a person. There is only one downside: That I don't live closer to Kingston so I could be a member there. read more

I absolutely LOVE Kingston Ceramics Studio. I had no experience with ceramics when I started, and had always been interested in learning. I started taking lessons in 2018, before COVID... and even then the studio was impeccably clean and well organized. The layout of wheels and workstations were well thought out and provided balance of community as well as personal space (if I wanted to draw inwards and focus on my work without interacting with others). I thoroughly enjoyed learning from Lex, the owner. She is incredibly gifted with her hands and words, and has a big heart. She knows how to meet people of all skill levels exactly where they are. Kingston Ceramics is a beautiful, light filled studio offering classes for all levels and also offers open studio for the more experienced potter. I have been a member since day 1. The atmosphere of community and learning is wonderful. The studio is clean and neat, supplies and tools are plentiful, the instructors are knowledgeable and warm. The owner and her staff are observing strict cleaning and masking procedures to protect their students, members and themselves from potential infection. When I step across the threshold, I feel a sense of peace like nothing else in my life right now. I could not recommend Kingston Ceramics Studio more highly! read more

My husband and I had a great private class with Austin - we've never done ceramics before, and it was a good balance of actually teaching us what to do and letting us experiment and play. I was really impressed on a recent visit by the thoughtful layout and range of materials and equipment. They have excellent and safe protocols in place for Covid-19.
