Rather than fix it in the salon, she told me to wet and scrunch them at home. They did not improve. When I had dinner with my grandpa the next day and he saw how awful my extensions looked said my hair looked like a "mop." Everyone who saw my hair was appalled at how awful they looked. After sending photos, neither the stylist nor the owner could acknowledge the obvious problem. The owner admitted the curl pattern wasn't an exact match but offered only a perm + reinstall, no refund. I was never shown the extensions before they were ordered, and Michelle the stylist told me that she had the "perfect extensions" to match my curl pattern. On top of the wrong curl pattern, the extensions were installed too heavily for my fine hair, leaving my scalp red, irritated, and scratched by sharp adhesive edges of the k tips . Given the damage, I declined further work and still received no refund for either the hair or the installation. No one at Kink Hair salon took accountability. If you have 4A curls or tighter, please save yourself some money and go to a curly extension specialist. I ended up buying 4A clip in curly extensions myself and they look like a perfect match, proving there's no excuse for licensed cosmetologists to not be able to find the proper curl patterned hair for my extensions.

It gives "we're all a family here," but somehow the client is not included in the family. I've overlooked a lot because I liked the actual hair services. I've waited 30 minutes past my appointment time before. I've had appointments moved around. One time, I was sent to the Webster Groves location, got there, and was then told I actually needed to go to Des Peres because they could not take me. Like...okay gas?? But today was what officially did it for me. I booked a root touch-up before a photo shoot tomorrow and a trip next week. I sent pictures and a description of what I wanted directly to the stylist beforehand. I've also had this exact type of service done through this salon multiple times, usually for around $250, so this was not some random mystery appointment. I arrived and waited around 30 minutes to be assisted, only to then be told it would cost over $400. And to be very clear, I am not asking anyone to lower their prices, undervalue their work, or change their hourly rate for me. Charge whatever you charge. That is fully your business. My issue is: why was none of this communicated nor coordinated before I showed up? You had my appointment details. You had the pictures. You had my description. You had my client history from the past two years. If the service was now going to cost almost twice what I normally paid, or if I had supposedly booked the wrong category, somebody should have figured that out before I arrived, waited 30 minutes, and left with absolutely nothing done. Even the stylist seemed surprised by how I had apparently been charged or categorized during previous appointments, which honestly just made the whole situation feel even more disorganized. That is an internal coordination issue, not something that should suddenly become the client's emergency while they are sitting in the chair So now I have a photo shoot tomorrow, a trip next week, and no hair did or done because this salon could not communicate beforehand. After nearly two years of being a loyal client, I'm done overlooking the rude front desk energy, the scheduling confusion, the long waits, and the constant lack of coordination. The actual talent may be there, but the overall experience is not. I will not be coming back. Respectfully, the vibes are not worth $400+.

I quickly started to see a ton of hair loss in chunks and was quick to reach out to her. She told me it was because she took out my second row and that it should get better- It didn't. I saw a new hair stylist today and she took out all my extensions and come to find out- Nicole had cut the end of two of my extensions (i have 6 in a row) making them not reusable bc of how bad the hair was falling off. Knowing how much I paid for the extensions I couldn't understand why she would do this. It ruined my extensions that I paid SO much for and were in great condition before I saw her. Needless to say I will not be back.

These people giving this place 5 stars has to be a mistake or some kind of joke. I had the worst experience here. Long story short everyone there cuts hair like a ten year old child that got a hold of mom's sheers. Now here is the long story. I called and asked for the most experienced stylist they had because I wanted a good hair cut. I came in for my appointment and they set me up with Christian, this man must have been fresh out of school because it seemed like he didn't even know how to hold a pair of sheers. I came in with picture and showed him exactly what I want. Well let just put it this way he chopped me up so bad that I had missing hair everywhere and to cover up his horrid mistakes, or at least try to cover them up, he dumped a bunch of moose all over my head. At that point Christian asked the manager for help because he didn't know how to rescue his mistakes. Well the older manager started to cut my hair and made it even worse. My face and head look like and egg now. Stay away from this place if you want to look normal. These people are all amateurs. read more

I had an amazing experience at Strands. I went in to get my natural medium/dark brown hair turned pastel pink! Brittany was my stylist (with help from some of the other girls) and she was incredibly helpful, informative, and comforting. It took nearly 10 hours over two days to accomplish but it was never boring or stressful. The salon itself is clean, organized and comfortable, they lack nothing when it comes to amenities (they have menus from nearby restaurants you can order from while in the salon!), and the whole staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Everyone there was as excited and as invested in my hair transformation as I was and I couldn't ask for anything more from a hair salon. I will be going here as long as I live near St Louis. read more

I have been going to Maria at Strands for a year and a half and she is great. She listens to what I want and offers helpful ideas. Always takes her time with a scalp massage, shampoo, and cut, and makes sure I'm happy with the final product. Also love the free bang trims in between regular cuts - a lifesaver! The atmosphere of Strands is very laid-back and welcoming - good music and friendly people who always offer a beverage. I've referred friends there and will continue to do so. I decided to try this place out based on a friend's recommendation and I am so glad I did! Strands is wonderful! Brittany did a phenomenal job! She was very attentive and listened to my frustrations with my layers and how I'd like them to blend more. Not only was my cut awesome, but the color we picked out together (based on her expertise!) was perfect. Angela is the absolute best hair stylist I have ever had. She listens to your wants and gives you exactly that. I had been searching for a hair stylist that would give me what I want and treat my hair with care for years. I can't express how grateful I am to have found her. My experience with Strands was nothing but positive. I had a somewhat unusual request, and both the salon owner (I think?) and Lucy were extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and accommodating to my request. Lucy especially was wonderful and did a great job on my hair within the parameters I talked to her about. On top of all that, the atmosphere is very relaxing, and there's an adorable dog, too! Lucy is fantastic! I came in with a handful of Pinterest ideas & photos, and she spent a lot of time talking with me to fine-tune what I really wanted. Together, we designed a marvelous beige blond color, with high & lowlights. That would have been more than enough to warrant 5 stars but then, she focused on my cut. I wanted thick bangs, and I am so happy with the result. Long layers and just enough of a healthy trim finished off my look. Genius, and fabulous. read more

I contacted Meagan to highlight and cut my hair after 18 months of new growth, a pregnancy/new baby, and 3 months of quarantine. She did a wonderful job, and made me feel human again. She scheduled me in quickly, followed all the new health procedures related to this pandemic to a tee, tamed my mess by giving me a much needed, healthy trim, and created beautiful highlights. I have long, black hair and wanted some reddish-brown highlights without using bleach. I also didn't want to lose too much of my length. As for the color, since my hair is naturally very dark and we didn't use bleach, the highlights didn't show up as much as we had hoped after the first appointment. Before I even had a chance to say anything, Indira brought it up herself and told me that she wasn't happy with how little the color showed. She asked me to come back so we could try another type of color, which isn't as strong as bleach but would lift my hair color more and help achieve the reddish-brown highlights I originally wanted. After the second appointment, my hair color turned out amazing! I was really happy with the result, and Indira didn't charge me anything extra for having me come back and redo the color. I really appreciated how attentive she was to what I wanted, especially when it came to preserving my hair length and making sure I was happy with the final color. I would definitely recommend Indira for both haircuts and hair color, especially if you have black or dark brown hair!

I think this flat rate really simplifies the process and eases my tipping anxiety. They have gender neutral pricing and offer silent appointments. They really care about their stylists abd clients.
