Strands is amazing!! From the moment I walked in to the moment I left I felt welcomed and valued. I asked for the colors yellow and pink, and I let Ninfa DO HER THING! I told her I wanted to have colored hair but also wanted to look professional and classy. She was able to give me everything I wanted and more. Ninfa exceeded my expectations in giving my hair so much dimension and style. Each stand of hair is perfectly colored, strategically placed, and wonderful!! I love the vibe of place-it's clean and the perfect size. She's been my hairstylist for 20 years!! Definitely recommend her, and her team :)

The best salon I have ever been to! Maegan is a hair genius! I have been coming here for years and have always had an amazing experience! Kevin and his wife are amazing owners who are personable, caring, and detail oriented. The whole team is fabulous!

    Fresh cut by Maegan!

Loved my experience at Strands with Maegan! She was professional, super friendly, and was good at listening to what I was looking for with my hair, as well as translating it into reality. I will be back to see her soon for a cut, and also color next time! Making appointments online as well as parking outside the shop were both easy. The cut was also very affordable!

And just for a fun a pic of my cut from February (the Bombshell)

Just got my hair cut & colored by Natalie and I love it! She is very perceptive and really knows what she is doing. I got my first hair cut from her back in February and it was the first time I have left a Salon LOVING my hair, usually it takes me a day or two to adjust but she knew exactly what I wanted. (The cut was called the Bombshell). Today I got a trim to maintain that lovely cut from February and had my hair colored. I wasn't 100% sure of the names of the colors I wanted or the proper hair terminology but when I described the look I was going for and showed her some photos, she grasped on to it right away and knew what to do. I definitely recommend making an appointment with her if you are looking for a new stylist. Overall the Salon itself is great as well. It's got all the feels you would expect from a salon (ie. nice chairs, lighting, mirrors, decor) The products they use are amazing, I personally love Caviar. I'll even comment that the bathroom is very nice and clean as well, since that might be important to some people. They offer their guests water, and the other staff are friendly as well. Ps. My hair is naturally curly and the cut looks great curly or straight which I love!

I had coloring and was not disappointed. Meghan was a great hair stylist. My hair looks fabulous. I found my hair stylist in St. Louis.

I just returned from my first visit; I chose this salon because I planned to color my hair after a long hiatus and wanted a place that offers the Olaplex treatment. The space: Strands has just moved to their new location down the st and is now located at 706 De Mun. The space is tastefully minimalist, and hopefully will gain a bit more personality as staff has time to settle in and complete the transition. The staff: Everyone i interacted with was warm and polite. My appt was with Kait, who was very professional, knowledgeable and solicitous. She did a good job of clarifying terminology and setting realistic expectations. My hair is hardly a hairdresser's dream, and Kait still made me feel like I could look good. The service: I got precisely what I asked for. I love my hair, and have received nothing but compliments since I walked out the door. Would definitely visit again!

On the left my at home dye job and on the right Megan at Strands fixed my hair mess!! It's lovely now

Megan at Strands can work miracles! On the left I decided to do my own hair with a box kit you know since we're in a pandemic and all. Of course I totally messed up my hair. On the right is after Megan fixed my hair. I love it now! Thank you sooo much!! The salon took all the necessary precautions (masks etc) and they were super nice from my initial phone call to the end of my appointment. Highly recommend this salon! Check them out!

$240 for a highlight that was half done- the color didn't sit long enough, 3 minute trim, and blowout. Overpriced. Save your money.

    Ask the Community - Strands

Hello! I have very fine super tight curly hair... I am in search for someone who can do a keratin complex treatment. My sister recommended cocochoco? However I would totally need assistance in doing it. Anyone there have experience with this?

We have highly trained technicians for the Keratin treatments. We only pick keratin treatments that have the best results for our area. Feel free to call the salon to book an appointment or for any other questions you might have about the product…

Which stylist would you recommend for wavy/curly hair? Are any stylists Deva Curl trained/certified?

Tricia, thank you for asking us about curly hair. All of our stylists are trained on curly hair, however our best fit for you will be Lucy or Ninfa. Hope that helps. Kevin

Which stylist would you recommend to style very fine hair?

Ninfa, Robert, and Kevin are our recommendations for fine hair. Thank you for the question, look forward to working with you.

Rather than fix it in the salon, she told me to wet and scrunch them at home. They did not improve. When I had dinner with my grandpa the next day and he saw how awful my extensions looked said my hair looked like a "mop." Everyone who saw my hair was appalled at how awful they looked. After sending photos, neither the stylist nor the owner could acknowledge the obvious problem. The owner admitted the curl pattern wasn't an exact match but offered only a perm + reinstall, no refund. I was never shown the extensions before they were ordered, and Michelle the stylist told me that she had the "perfect extensions" to match my curl pattern. On top of the wrong curl pattern, the extensions were installed too heavily for my fine hair, leaving my scalp red, irritated, and scratched by sharp adhesive edges of the k tips . Given the damage, I declined further work and still received no refund for either the hair or the installation. No one at Kink Hair salon took accountability. If you have 4A curls or tighter, please save yourself some money and go to a curly extension specialist. I ended up buying 4A clip in curly extensions myself and they look like a perfect match, proving there's no excuse for licensed cosmetologists to not be able to find the proper curl patterned hair for my extensions.

I booked and paid $90 specifically for a curly haircut after explaining that I wanted more curl definition, styling guidance, and a cut tailored to my natural curls. Instead, the service felt more like a standard haircut than a specialized curly service, and I left unhappy with both the styling and overall result. Anna was very sweet and did try to correct the styling when she realized I was unhappy, which I appreciated, but ultimately the experience did not feel like the specialized curly service I had booked and paid for. UPDATE: The owner reached out after my experience and offered me a complimentary appointment with another curly hair specialist. I decided to give the salon another chance, and I'm very glad I did. My second experience was completely different. I was extremely happy with my hair and, just as importantly, I left feeling educated about my curls and confident that I could recreate the results at home. My stylist took the time to explain the techniques and products that worked best for my hair, which was exactly what I had hoped for from the beginning. I really appreciate the owner listening to my concerns and making an effort to make things right. While my first experience was disappointing, I'm very happy with how the salon handled the situation and with the service I received the second time around. I would definitely return for another curly hair service.

Once I sat down, I showed him a picture of the haircut I wanted. He mentioned that product would be needed to achieve the texture, which I acknowledged. I told him to just try his best. After he was done the result looked NOTHING like the picture I showed him, I asked him about it. Bro was triggered so bad and started throwing these at me: "This is a professional salon not a kids salon go to your old barber" "I have plenty of WashU clients" "Zip it" WHEN I WAS SAYING NOTHING and the best one yet "never come back again I don't want to see your face" On top of that, he got irritated that I was occasionally looking in the mirror and at my phone to check on the process as if monitoring your own haircut is somehow offensive. At the end, he applied some powder to shape my haircut and to be honest this was not a super terrible haircut, although I thought my curtains could be more choppy like in the picture. However, I think my stylist lacks basic respect and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who expects to be treated with basic decency. Also, as my barber mentioned, the salon has a camera so if the owner sees this, feel free to check if this review is real(ensure nothing is edited out of context/no manipulative or deceptive editing). I had my haircut on aug 23 1pm.

I've gone here consistently since moving to St. Louis for haircuts, root touch-ups, color, all of it. I also truly do not care who I'm assigned to. I'm not one of those clients who needs one specific stylist every single time. I just expect basic communication, decent service, and for my appointment to actually make sense when I arrive. Coordination! Unfortunately, the vibe here has always felt off The front desk is rarely welcoming. Half the time, no one greets you, acknowledges you, or makes you feel like they are happy you're there. The energy can feel very cliquey, dismissive, and honestly kind of performative. It gives "we're all a family here," but somehow the client is not included in the family. I've overlooked a lot because I liked the actual hair services. I've waited 30 minutes past my appointment time before. I've had appointments moved around. One time, I was sent to the Webster Groves location, got there, and was then told I actually needed to go to Des Peres because they could not take me. Like...okay gas?? But today was what officially did it for me. I booked a root touch-up before a photo shoot tomorrow and a trip next week. I sent pictures and a description of what I wanted directly to the stylist beforehand. I've also had this exact type of service done through this salon multiple times, usually for around $250, so this was not some random mystery appointment. I arrived and waited around 30 minutes to be assisted, only to then be told it would cost over $400. And to be very clear, I am not asking anyone to lower their prices, undervalue their work, or change their hourly rate for me. Charge whatever you charge. That is fully your business. My issue is: why was none of this communicated nor coordinated before I showed up? You had my appointment details. You had the pictures. You had my description. You had my client history from the past two years. If the service was now going to cost almost twice what I normally paid, or if I had supposedly booked the wrong category, somebody should have figured that out before I arrived, waited 30 minutes, and left with absolutely nothing done. Even the stylist seemed surprised by how I had apparently been charged or categorized during previous appointments, which honestly just made the whole situation feel even more disorganized. That is an internal coordination issue, not something that should suddenly become the client's emergency while they are sitting in the chair So now I have a photo shoot tomorrow, a trip next week, and no hair did or done because this salon could not communicate beforehand. After nearly two years of being a loyal client, I'm done overlooking the rude front desk energy, the scheduling confusion, the long waits, and the constant lack of coordination. The actual talent may be there, but the overall experience is not. I will not be coming back. Respectfully, the vibes are not worth $400+.
