Short Review - Excellent for Blondes - Great Cuts - Nicole is amazing! - Blow Outs are soooo good! I came here after I had an awful bleaching experience in Australia, that left half of my hair snapped off! Nicole walked me through the damage control and how to combat it. Now that my hair is back-on-track Nicole has done an amazing job on keeping me looking like a "natural" mulit dimensional blonde with darker roots. Her cuts are excellent too, I came in with a shaggy mullet image and Nicole tailored that to my face shape. I got so many compliments from my workmates! I can be super particular about my cut and color due to bad experiences but I NEVER have to worry when I'm at Kinloch. Lorna is sooo detailed with my haircuts and Courtney always knows exactly what to do with my color. SO let me begin by saying I am also one of those people who like to bleach their hair to the point of death. Whatever I love it. I came to Kinloch salon with all kinds of different hair colors going on in my hair, from blue to green to gray to a brassy blonde. Yes, it looked as good as it sounds. I sat down and Courtney could obviously see what was going on with my hair, I said that I meant for it to be a queen of dragons gray white and the colorist I was going to just didn't understand or didn't know how to do it correctly. She immediately referred me to Jessica. And guys let me tell you I was so stressed out about my hair color, I was a hair cut away from buzzing my head. Not kidding. But I went in a couple of weeks later and FINALLY got it to the color I wanted. Jessica is amazing. Seriously, I am never going to get my hair done by anyone else EVER. And it's not just Jessica who's amazing, the whole salon as a whole is just a power house. Courtney is incredible, and Eli who now cuts my hair because why would I want to go anywhere else if they do a good job with color, they must do a good job with cuts too right?! RIGHT, because just reiterating, bleaching your hair to the point of death is never a good idea, but when you do decide to do it, there's definitely going to be some breakage. And I had a whole lot of breakage going on. To the point where I would say I easily compared to a white Silkie Bantam, if you don't know what that is, look it up it's my new spirit animal. So the baby hair fly aways was a serious problem. He gave me the perfect hair cut where everything blended really nicely and gave me a cute summer short due that I love! All in all this salon is the best I've been to since living in New York. That's six years and over six salons. It's clean, everyone who works there is super friendly, and I've already recommended it to any one who's asked including a stranger on the street! Five stars well deserved. read more

You are provided guidelines and asked to be on time with a mask. Shannon does a beautiful job every time and talks through the styling she is doing so you can do it yourself. I wrote to the salon via Yelp and received a very timely response and was able to get in same-day. Salon was a little difficult to locate because my maps app placed it at they're old location when it's actually about a block up the road. No big deal. I got an appointment with Natalie, and I think between myself and another gal receiving color treatment we were the last appointments of the day. She suggested she cut my hair dry which I've never had done before, and because I'm trying to grow my hair out the actual cut was super minimal, basically a very simple trim. When she asked if I wanted her to shampoo me I was slightly put off because for a $90 trim I think a shampoo and style should apply without saying. The stylist didn't wait for the water to warm up and just went in cold which was a drag, and then used almost zero product when styling. Essentially, my hair looks fine... but I'm not jazzed on it or anything. I felt like I was getting maybe a sub par service in the interest of saving time and that never feels great as a client. Probably will not return to kinloch salon. While clean and centrally located, the value just isn't there. read more

I got my balyage and hair cut here. Balyage- Jessica was great with my hair. I have dark brown hair and she was able to give me natural looking highlights without it looking brassy. Would definitely use her services exclusively. Price was fair for long hair. Cut- Jessica was great with my hair and gave me a fresh cut. I am one of those people who only cuts her hair once a year. However I found that the cut is more than I typically pay for a cut. Overall, the salon is cute, no stress, and a comfortable environment. I have never been to this salon. I am writing a review because I wasn't approved for an appointment... very very bizarre. I have been looking for a colorist and a friend recommended this salon. I have sort of unconventional hair (single bleached section). I needed to get the roots touched up and possibly warm the tone. I called to make an appointment and tried to explain what I was working for. The woman who answered the phone seemed slightly flustered by my request and said she "wouldn't know what to charge for that" (whatever you want...?) and that "our stylist don't do that." Honestly, didn't really know how to respond to her... I've never had anyone refuse my business like that. It was odd. And a little offensive. She then said, send a picture via email, strange... but ok? I did, called back and same strangeness. She suggested another salon, one I'd actually been to (styling was good, color was so so) and that was that. I don't know how to say this without sounding like a middle school girl with hurt feelings... but I felt, well, just very judged... Odd odd odd. Beyond that, no clue how this salon is. Thank you for reaching out but I found another salon that was able to accommodate my request. I actually never asked about pricey. I described what I was looking for and assumed I would be scheduled for partial highlights or something along those lines. Whoever I spoke to brought up pricing unprompted. I was slightly taken aback but think I stumbled through a sentence along the lines of "whatever you need to book is fine..." Sorry it didn't even occur to me that what I was asking for wasn't an option... It was an overall just uncomfortable conversation that did not need to be. I went in for a root touch up n tone with Jessica (the brunette) and it turned out terrible. You can see in the before picture... Then the owner was so nice and messaged me so I went back in the second time w COURTNEY and OMG it turned out way better than I expected. She's got talent and you can tell by the way she blends the colors. (a lot more organized and efficient than jessica) I was so impressed. I also got a haircut by JESSIE aka goddess of blow outs and cuts. Will definitely come back on a regular basis just for her blow outs. Thank you so much, and sorry... Best best BEST hair salon hands down I have been to in NYC since moving here four years ago! Shannon has completely transformed my hair from dull to fabulous and I couldn't be more happy! I was lucky enough to secure her first appointment back to work and finally feel like myself again! I'm blonde but went brunette and tried using Oops hair removal to go back to blonde. Sadly my hair turned orange :( I went to an Avenda salon in Manhattan and they said it would cost upwards of $500 and at least 4 hours to go back to my old color. I went to Kinloch after reading all of their reviews and I was blown away by how amazing the stylist were. I got a cut and color done. Both were great! I also got to see 3 people come in for cuts/colors while I was there who all LOVED their hair. I have never been a huge salon fan until now. Back when I lived in Manhattan, I would come to see them, and now that I live in the neighbourhood, I'm able to visit the salon even more frequently. Jess is a STAR! She's the only person who has cut or coloured my hair for 3 years now, and that won't change. She listens to what my vision is, and talks me through her recommendations. I trust her implicitly, and honestly, she's the coolest chick ever! Beyond the beautiful work, I really appreciate all of Courtney's/the staff's efforts to be safe during this awful pandemic, especially as a small woman-owned business. I adore Kinloch and everyone who works there. I've been going to this salon for years and wouldn't consider going anywhere else. Courtney is the best of the best. She's obviously an amazing colorist but beyond that- she puts so much care into creating a space that feels special, hiring a team of rockstars, and making sure everything runs smoothly. I just had my highlights done for the first time since they reopened, and I couldn't have felt safer. My temperature was taken upon entry and even the exterior door handle was wiped down after I entered the salon. Everything was super clean and not a single detail was overlooked. Courtney clearly put so much thought into reopening responsibly- everything from the signage on the door, to the partitions between chairs, to the no-touch soap dispenser in the bathroom. I'm so, so happy with my hair (as always!) and can't wait to go back for a cut. I can't imagine how hard it's been to navigate the pandemic as a small business, but I'm not at all surprised to see that Kinloch has handled everything so professionally. I've been a client of Kinloch since 2018 and it has been amazing to see the salon grow. I go to Lorna for haircuts and Nicole to get my hair dyed. Both are fantastic professionals who really listen to my needs and I always leave feeling like they completely nailed what I wanted. Those words always leave my mouth, "Wow! This is just what I wanted!" I recently went into the salon upon post-COVID reopening. I am deeply impressed with the level of organization, care, and safety taken at each turn. The salon clearly articulated a $10 PPE fee to me beforehand. I feel that this fee is fair, especially considering the immeasurable business losses that have occurred during this pandemic. As a longtime client, I am absolutely willing to shell out extra cash to keep Kinloch afloat, and again this fee was not a surprise, so everyone knows what they are signing up for when making an appointment. Prior to the appointment, Kinloch sent a waiver that I read through and signed right away. When I got to the salon (a minute or so late, my bad!), Lorna was waiting for me at the door and let me in. Upon entering, I was asked to wash my hands. Everyone inside is masked up, and there are dividers separating the chairs. Each chair I sat in was disinfected after I got out of it, which was really great to see. It is clear that the staff is taking safety very seriously, and I think that anybody who is concerned about infection can trust that they will be as safe as possible at Kinloch, as they truly have taken every measure to disinfect and protect. My friend wanted to stop by to surprise me and say hi and they wouldn't let her in (rightfully so), they are taking this very seriously! I felt compelled to leave this review due to the recent negative reviews left by new customers who did not clearly read through the policies and do not have a pre-existing connection with the salon. I have been going to Kinloch for four years and every time I leave the salon I feel like a million bucks. Every stylist is extremely skilled, and they actually listen to what you want. Clients leave looking totally fabulous and cool. Lorna gives the most incredible haircut and Shannon's color is transformative! I admittedly go way too long between appointments, and my hair still grows out beautifully every time. I have very dark hair and have had been to so many well known and expensive colorists that end up lifting my hair to a coppery color, but never at Kinloch! The new salon location is stunning and very welcoming. I know Courtney the owner worked really hard to ensure her clients' safety upon reopening due to the pandemic, and has taken a ton of extra precautions so we all feel safe. I went to Kinloch for a blowout before a wedding and I was so happy with my hair! I had never been to this salon before but I was so impressed with my blowout, done by Lorna, that I will definitely be coming back for more services.
