I see Dr. Alan Tong who, for many years, was an instructor at the touted UOP (University of Pacific) dental school. Due to the Covid situation and his age, he currently is not teaching there to my knowledge. Dr. Tong is patient and thorough in explaining your situation and advising you of how to address issues or problems. My mom and I just came here for our teeth cleaning and, knock wood, no problems so far. Their hours are limited due to the Covid situation so do be patient. If you seek a particular dentist from this office, please confirm their schedules to coordinate. Also, you may want to check with them about the insurance coverage if you already have a dental plan or, if not, ask them what plans are most suitable for their office. Sandy is the person at the front desk who usually handles my check in and scheduling. This behavior felt discriminatory and deeply disrespectful. Patients should never be judged or categorized based on their insurance policy. Dental offices are supposed to be safe, welcoming environments where people can trust professionals during what can already be a vulnerable experience. This encounter made me feel unsafe, unseen, and devalued as a patient. It takes very little effort to show kindness and extend the same basic courtesies to everyone -- especially when providing a paid service. No doctor should model or tolerate discriminatory behavior within their practice. About 15 minutes later the procedure started and it went great, so great that I asked to see the tooth because I couldn't believe it had been extracted. I arrived at 8:58am for my 9am. I was greeted with a friendly good morning and told the dentist would see me shortly. She greeted me, numbed me up and complimented my shoes. I laid in the chair for about 10 minutes then the procedure started. Within 15 minutes the tooth was pulled. Coincidentally someone I had seen before, and filling in temporarily for this practice. The appointment started at least 30-45 minutes later than the scheduled time. Definitely an hour by the time I was seen by the dentist post xray. I had a broken tooth. And another that needed a root canal and crown. When I received my x-ray, the knowledgeable visiting dentist who I was seen by recommended a filling for the broken tooth. He stated that the tooth appeared worse on the xray than it actually was, and after some sensitivity testing recommended a filling. After my visit and cleaning I was told by someone at the desk that I could not receive the recommended treatment. Instead, I would need to opt for their $1,300 crown. This was not covered by medi-cal of course. With a little push back I mentioned the dentists recommendation for a filling, presumably more affordable or even covered with my insurance. The woman implied that since he was only visiting he was somehow less capable. She said the scan showed it was too damaged to provide a filling. She never cared to consult the dentist who treated me. Who actually saw and diagnosed the tooth. She said she would consult with the dentist he was covering for, and contact me with treatment options. This never happened. So, be pepared to provide them with the exorbitant fees they bilk for! Or be in good fortunes and have an insurance plan that will satiate their money hungry practices. But if you find yourself vulnerable, in pain, and under insured... I would consider someplace that is compassionate and cares. Who actually places your oral health and comfort in high regard. They caused me to have a serious infection while trying to place a temporary crown which they tried to treat but didn't follow through with proper treatment before placing the permanent crown. While I gave them the opportunity to fix their error, they couldn't even properly diagnose that I even had a serious severe gum infection after they had already placed the permanent bridge. I was forced to go to another dentist for emergency treatment and could possibly lose the permanent bridge they placed in my mouth.

I recommend this office for basic/routine dentistry, but (in my case) would have gone to someone else with wisdom tooth extraction experience. They can provide a helpful breakdown of estimated costs and coverage. I really hate going to the dentist, but this office made every effort to offer the best, most comfortable experience and service from start to finish. I had a tooth ache from a wisdom tooth that was desperate to come out. So I found this office through my insurance portal, filled out the online form on the practice website to request an appointment, and was quickly contacted shortly after their office opened the next day. All communications happened via text which was easy and efficient. They were able to get me in for an appointment two days later which I feel is pretty fast, considering availability is hard to come by, especially at the end of the year. When I arrived, I was greeted and helped immediately. The ambiance is nice, simple, and comfortable. They text you a link to fill out your new patient info to lessen the paperwork you have to do in person. I still had some consent forms and more detailed health history to fill out when I arrived. Then I was immediately taken back for images and x-rays. Everything happened very fast. The assistant helping with this was kind and gentle. Then, Dr. Seo did his examination. He was absolutely wonderful - very warm, patient, kind, and resourceful. He answered all questions enthusiastically, walked me through my scans and photos, and offered helpful advice. I have been cheated into paying for unnecessary procedures by previous dentists, so I REALLY appreciated how Dr. Seo reassured me that he only recommends "needed" procedures - emphasis on "need". Super comforting. The only downside is that he is not a specialist, so he couldn't advise on (or conduct) wisdom teeth extraction and had to refer me elsewhere. So if you're coming in for that, then depending on your insurance, I recommend seeing another general dentist or oral surgeon who can do the consult and then the teeth extractions instead of jumping from dentist to dentist. Dr. Seo referred me to Dr. Young who is in a separate but co-owned practice upstairs (review to come). After that, the dental hygienist, Justin, cleaned my teeth. He (and Dr. Seo) also recommended a deeper cleaning which my insurance would not have covered, but overall, I didn't feel pressured to do anything (a common issue in private practices). Overall, Justin was wonderful as well! Again, very kind, patient, knowledgeable, and gentle. I could tell he was doing a thorough job with the cleaning, checking in with me now and then. He gave me some freebies (floss, toothbrush, toothpaste). He also provided helpful advice that was consistent with what Dr. Seo mentioned. The front desk staff member showed me my estimated costs. Billing is always a frustrating process, especially with unexpected expenses, but they break it down for you in an organized way. Feel free to ask about estimates ahead of time if you are worried about coverage. Overall, the staff here are great and I highly recommend coming here for all of your general, more routine dental needs!
