It's important for patients to understand that Dedicated Dermatology operates as a larger corporate dermatology group rather than a traditional physician-owned practice. In my case, the process involved multiple appointments, multiple copays, and long wait times between steps. At a previous Mohs surgeon I saw in the Washington, DC area, I was evaluated, biopsied, diagnosed, and treated in the same visit. Two basal cell carcinomas were confirmed and removed during a single appointment, and the entire process took only a couple of hours. My experience with Dedicated Dermatology was very different. First, I saw a provider for biopsies. Then I had to wait weeks for pathology results, return for another appointment, and later go through a separate scheduling and approval process to see a Mohs surgeon. I was also told that two areas could not be treated on the same day due to office policy, billing. The result was multiple visits, repeated copays, additional time away from work, and significantly more inconvenience. By the time everything was scheduled and completed, the total out-of-pocket cost was far higher than what I experienced elsewhere( actual/real Mohs surgeon). I also found it frustrating that by the time I finally saw the Mohs surgeon, the biopsy sites had already healed, meaning the areas had to be reopened and treated again. Every office operates differently, but patients should be aware that this practice's process may involve several appointments and added costs compared to a more streamlined Mohs surgery experience.

Dr. Westheim told me it was genetic and that nothing could be done and was surprised that the other doctor didn't tell me. He was funny, told me a story, and answered all of my questions professionally, and yet, I was able to understand everything perfectly. He answered all of my questions and I left there knowing that I really just have to deal with it. Also, I had become dizzy and fainted outside the rear entrance. I was only out for about 5 seconds, but everyone came running and one nice nurse walked me to Dr. Westheim's office around to the front of the building. Once inside, the staff could not have been more caring and attentive to the fact that I fainted. I got a chocolate chip cookie and water during my stay. I thought it may have been my hypoglycemia; however, I must tell you that I have never received such wonderful attention and care in my life. I would happily recommend him and his staff to anyone I know who asks for a local dermatologist.

When I arrived they told me to stay in the car and my appointment was for 4:00. I notice many people in their cars waiting. At 4:22 I had enough of this abuse. The doctors office has no respect for the patients. They over book because your there to be inspected and billed. They have no regard for your time.

First things first, it is incredibly hard to find a surgical dermatologist. In this field it often seems like aesthetics over everything. Before the pandemic ruined everyone's life I was being seen at 2 practices in north jersey - the first one didn't seem to understand why I would be bothered that my alopecia spots weren't healing and the second practice stopped taking insurance after my second appointment. As each injection is hundreds of dollars lmao that promising relationship ended quickly. Healthcare for the rich indeed. For the last 5 years I've been managing the patchiness on my own to inconsistent effect. Recently, another unrelated issue requiring surgery kicked me into high gear to find a new provider. I sought recs from my local FB group, friends and family, etc but they all kept leading me down cottage skincare and other lanes. It was actually a good old-fashioned Google search that led me to Dr. Patel. Bravo on winning the SEO game! From the moment I called (and rescheduled thrice due to car trouble - dang it MINI), the office was welcoming, accommodating, and scheduling relatively quick appointments. On my first visit, Dr.Patel and his team were thorough, curious, and caring. I felt so comfortable with them and I felt like I mattered. In many ways women become "invisible" after age 40 - add race and body size to the mix and it can be difficult to get the care and compassion needed to navigate health challenges. Dr. Patel suggested I get a full blood work up - and actually caught my low iron and anemia. So many somatic mysteries cleared up just because someone listened and cared. I have a surgical procedure scheduled in a few weeks that will bring me immediate comfort and the topical meds and injections Dr. Patel is giving me have restarted hair growth in some persistent patchy spots. I'm very thankful I found this practice!
