Downey's House provided the local spot I needed. An ice cold Yuengling on draft went down very well, and while I didn't find pierogis on the menu, I settled for a phenomenal bowl of spaghetti & meatballs. Local marinara & meatballs made with the same recipe of the old Main Hotel that was in Carnegie for nearly 100 years. That bowl of pasta was SCRUMPTIOUS and just what I was after. I even talked my lovely wife into doing up her salad 'Pittsburgh style', which means adorning the salad with fries. And yes, it's as good as it sounds. Thrown in a protein like grilled chicken and that is a banger of a meal. Great dining area with a square-shaped bar and TVs with sight-lines in any direction. The service is friendly and helpful, and prices are probably lower than at some chain-y eatery that just makes your food via assembly line. It's local and sensational!

We stopped before going to an event at the Roxian Theater. The place is big. they have a decent size bar. There's a darts game and some other games, outdoor covered patio, they also have a banquet room besides their main dining room. Our waitress was really sweet but service was slow. The menu is huge. Lots of options for all ages crowd, families and there were some vegetarian options as well. We ordered food to share. the calamari appetizer which tasted OK, but some of the pieces weren't cooked thoroughly so they were really rubbery. We also ordered the blackberry salmon which again was tasty, but the salmon was overcooked. And both of our side salads were drenched with dressing and must've sat in the back for at least 20 min. to the point the lettuce was soggy. I don't know if this was just an for the kitchen staff but food wise was not the best especially for a $45 bill!

Everything was perfect. They ferment the egg in soy sauce, which gives it such a unique depth of flavor. The duck was the best confit I've had in Pittsburgh, and the schnitzel was incredibly flavorful. I wish I could figure out how to prepare beets like that at home, because it just can't be beet (lol). Truly, every dish was spot on. The atmosphere is beautiful--quiet, warm, and inviting. I honestly don't know how I missed this place for the last seven years, but I'll be frequenting it from now on. The only downside came at the end of the night. Overall, the service had been solid, and the chef even stopped by to explain the egg fermentation process, which was such a thoughtful touch. But after we ordered our last drink--and after we had already tipped--the server began pushing us out. "There's another reservation for your table in 10 minutes," we were told, despite there being more than six empty tables. We had just ordered a dessert to go, and what if we had planned to enjoy it there? It felt abrupt and unnecessary, especially after tipping well over 25%. Even with that experience, I will certainly return. The food is exceptional, and the chances of getting the same server again are slim. I just hope the staff learns not to rush customers paying such high prices, because an otherwise wonderful evening was marred by that moment. This American habit of pushing diners out the door is simply ludicrous.

You're given a complimentary glass of champagne when they seat you which is such a fun touch. The menu changes daily! The food was outstanding. We had the spinach and artichoke dip, a warm baguette, the wagyu shortrib, the dungeness crab salad, and the vanilla bourbon & sea salt ice cream for dessert. Everything was delicious. 4 stars because the server asked us to leave immediately after we finished (about 1 hour and 45 minutes after we were seated) so the next reservation could have the table-which felt a bit rude.
