The soaking tub is to die for. It's also a black women owned business. I met one of the owners, and she is so warm and welcoming. My personally experienced drawbacks were that some shades would not move up or down, very little toilet paper and tissue paper in the room, and some housekeeping neglect in the corners. You get a place to lay your head and you get a feel for what it's like to live in a place. In a sense, visiting Detroit is like visiting another country. It defies convention and expectation and pulls you in. Honor & Folly is a terrific place to fall in love with the city. It's perched above three essential places: a BBQ joint, a cocktail bar and a coffee shop. Across the street is the iconic ruin of Michigan's central station. Down Michigan is downtown Detroit. The interior is beautiful and driven by a strong design aesthetic. Goods like blankets, dishes and cutting boards are for sale and their makers have fascinating only-in-michigan stories. The proprietress, Meghan, is a design connoisseur and clearly a linker of people, who cultivates a very easygoing vibe while sacrificing nothing in terms of the quality of visual effect. Every object in every room seems to have a functional and decorative purpose. Here's what you need to know about Honor & Folly. Parking is street only and because Slows BBQ is so popular (as in wait for two hours for a table popular), many people are parking on the street. Even so, we had no problem finding a decent spot within view of where we were staying. This is a self-catering place so you can buy food and cook it up, but there's no breakfast with the bed. We bought coffee downstairs, had them grind it and then brewed our own little french press each morning. I highly recommend this inn. If you've given serious thought to exploring Detroit or just want a nest-like getaway, check it out. Stayed at Honor & Folly this past Labour Day Monday, plus, following Tuesday night. Short and sweet…read moregetaway. The nicely appointed retro apartment was perfect for our base in Detroit. Going over the Ambassador Bridge, after clearing U.S. Customs, the apartment is two or three minutes away. Host was excellent helping us to reserve the rental space, as well as offering hip trip suggestions. Just outside the door of the pad, there are unique Corktown restaurants, cafes, and bars (i.e., Slows B.B.Q., The Sugar House, Mercury Burger and Bar, and Astro Coffee, what else do you need, eh?!). We did not have a car during our stay in the Motor City, yes, if you can believe it. Used Via Rail train service to Windsor station, then, hired a taxi to take us to the U.S. During the day, one can easily walk from the apartment to all sites in the downtown of Detroit, and hire a taxi if too tired to walk back. Again, car is not required to get the best out of Detroit, so long as you like to walk, befriend a reliable taxi driver, and know where you're heading. We can't wait to go back to Detroit, and stay here.

They are truly the gems of this place. I see the same people year after year and they truly care for you while you are here. I've gotten excellent advice about where and what to eat, where to visit, and even life advice. From Cassandra who answers the phone, to group sales, to the front desk, to the thorough and patient housekeeper Jasmine, to the really kind van drivers/ concierge (Captain Tony, Cory, and Darryl), to the nice woman at the bar restaurant downstairs. Everyone does an amazing job. This place is a great value also. It's an all suites hotel so you get a lot of space. I love having the sleeping room separate from the living room so if some people in your party want to stay up and chat they can do that while I can have my peace and nap in the bedroom. The sound proofing isn't perfect but it's pretty good for a hotel room. I also love the deep soaking tub. I always arrive earlier than everyone else so I can take a bath right when I get there. There is a shuttle service that is very useful for trips within 5 miles. I've seen many people use it to get to the sports arena nearby. I tend to use it to go to nearby restaurants, dance clubs and the whole foods nearby before all the markets opened downtown. They just went through some serious remodeling and everything looks really good. The location in Greektown makes it walkable to most places. I'm most interested in walking to Hart Plaza, which is about 10 minutes walking. It's also about 10-15 minutes walking to the DAX bus stop. I've even taken the 20 minute walk to the Fox theater because I wanted to see that building. Its best to walk with someone if your going that far and keep your wits about you, but I felt completely safe (as a brown woman who grew up in NYC). I love how much Detroit is growing and changing for the more beautiful. If I had one complaint it would be the music that they play in the lobby. I wish they would play Motown (because of the city we're in), techno or Greek music (because we're in Greektown and the place is called the Atheneum). I feel like that would be more true to where we are, but that's such a small thing, and maybe just me. All in all, I LOVE staying here and will continue to stay here when ever I'm in Detroit.

I also ordered the chicken tacos, which were flavorful and really delicious. Honestly, I'd come back just to hang out at the bar again!

I left my daughter in the car before knowing this. The valet opened my front door and asked my teen daughter where I went. As I'm at registration, there is one person working the elite desk and another person working a counter at the complete opposite side of the lobby. As stated earlier - chaos and this is how it was staffed. Pro - we opted for a king room and were able to get into a room immediately. Parking is next door and $25/day. Not bad for downtown parking. We quickly got to our room. I was shocked that there were no charging ports for phones/devices. My fault for not being prepared with actual plug in chargers. Pro - the view is pretty. We could see the river, Canada and all the downtown lights sparkling from our room. Con - the elevators are scary and many times you feel like you are on a rocky cruise boat. (There are 70 floors to the hotel and we were on 59). Lobby - there's a market and a restaurant/bar. They had what appeared to be one bartender when we had drinks in the afternoon. I'm not sure what happened, but she was one of the most UNFRIENDLY and unprofessional bartenders. She was mad we were ordering from the bar, she didn't want us leaving our tab open for fear we'd leave without closing out and create more work, she got mad that she made a drink wrong, she cussed about a fellow employee as she walked past us and then refused to serve someone because she stated we had a server (nobody ever approached us). This was all during a timeframe of 45-60 minutes. The place was clearly not staffed appropriately but the hostility was geared to the wrong parties. We were paying customers who were nothing but patient. Pro - proximity to Huntington Place is close. The walk is pretty and it appears to be safe. I was not able to venture any further from the property but the location does appear to be quite great. Overall the hotel really needs to work on staffing. There was another large event taking place at the hotel and the hotel just seemed way off from being able to handle things accordingly.

The room overall including the beds and bathroom were nice and comfortable. And it was good use of the space with a chaise lounge to enjoy the view. Again the staff was the best part and the comfy bed. And the location is FANTASTIC! A few upgrades and this will be a jewel!

This property is housed in the 1925 Metropolitan Building, a stunning Neo-Gothic "Jeweler's Building" that sat vacant for nearly 40 years. Seeing it restored to its former glory rather than being demolished is a win for the city.  The entrance lobby and the grand stairway to the second floor are phenomenal--the restoration team clearly put a lot of heart into preserving the marble and the ornate details. Because the hotel has to conform to the original historic footprint, the rooms are unique and oddly shaped. It was a refreshing change of pace to stay somewhere that broke out of the usual "cookie-cutter" hotel mold. My room featured a long internal hallway, a small kitchenette, and enough windows to provide a fantastic view of the Detroit skyline.  Check-in was seamless, and the staff were excellent throughout my stay. I initially considered subtracting a star because my room lacked a steamer, but the breakfast service won me back. The made-to-order omelets and the yogurt granola station were top-notch, and that high-quality start to the day made up for any minor room omissions. If you appreciate architecture with a history and a bit of character, this is definitely the place to stay in Detroit.
