You can't go wrong with Kismet -- I've been ordering from here since I was a freshman at UT and have never had a bad experience. The food definitely has the quality and the value to justify the price. I've only eaten in the restaurant once but you know the food is going to be good when it appears to be family owned! This is a nice place to eat for a casual lunch or dinner. The menu is extensive and is a good value. You order at the counter and pickup at the counter. The owner is friendly as well as most of the staff. They have an extensive amount of clean indoor and outdoor seating. Great late night hours. My friend's favorites were the delicious lentil soup and the Baklava (nutty roll) desert. The Eggplant wrap was good .. next time I would order it spicy. Food is fantastic. I lived down the street so I was definitely a regular! Every now and then the fresh tomato and cucumber seemed a bit old or like I got the "bottom of the barrel". Overall though, food was consistent and delicious. I don't know about the back of house staff but there was one guy at the register that (every time) acted like we were interrupting his day. Not sure what's up with him. Always very short, never smiled, and sighed or rolled his eyes often. Shelley, a new cashier, also demonstrates their fantastic customer service. Kismet Cafe satisfies my Halal/Mediterranean taste buds enough, without breaking the bank. Came here Saturday for dinner, and ordered the Vegetarian Mezza platter. I feel like their falafel is on the drier side, since a piece scratched my throat going down (but I'll also partially blame user error). The pita bread was warm and soft, but I felt the hummus was on the simpler side. The eggplant dip and dolma were the stand outs of the meal. For the price, no complaints about portion size - definitely filling or enough for leftovers. Parking is pretty easy since Kismet is part of a strip mall with a large, shared parking lot. It's a casual atmosphere, you order at the counter and your number is called when the food is ready. The service was fine and my meal came out pretty quick. Not my favorite Halal/Mediterranean spot in Austin, but I wouldn't mind coming back for that eggplant dip. read more

I've had the opportunity to eat here several times now, and I just can't get enough! It's probably good that we live quite a ways away, or I'd eat here nearly every day. I just cannot get enough of their vegan gyros! It's been several years since I've had a meat gyro, and their (I assume) seitan based gyro hits all the right notes--it's truly addictive! The first time we came, I had a vegan shawarma, hoping for something similar to a chicken or lamb shawarma I've had in the past, but it was really nothing like that. What I got was 2 greasy fried patties that were fine, but not phenomenal. Still, desperate to try their other vegan offering, we ordered the gyro and a mezze plate to go. Their mezze plate with hummus, and egg plant dip, tabouleh, falafel, and tomato/pepper salad is a real winner, and the pita they provide for dipping is always delightfully soft and tasty. In fact, we usually order extra as my husband loves them so much. Their vegan gyro is absolutely the star here, though. It really is just so good I could go on and on about it. Anytime we find ourselves in the area, I get unreasonably excited about it and then we must go. We have lunch or dinner dine in, and then we always order the mezze plate with extra pita and a spicy vegan gyro to go to share while we watch a movie later. Also, fwiw, my husband always orders the chicken wrap when we dine in and scarfs it down before I can even ask how it is, so, if you're a meat eater, it seems like the chicken's pretty good, too. Seriously, though, if you're vegan or vegetarian, I can't recommend this place enough. The food is fantastic (including the falafel!), the staff is super nice and willing to help you find what you want on their large menu (and make changes as needed!), and, again, the food is fantastic, lol. I recently started going to this place, even though it has been around forever. Well they've been around forever because the food slams! I'm a huge fan of their Gyro, Fries, Tziziki and Hot Sauce. Once upon a time I traveled all over Europe, and the food here is reminiscent of many of the donor kebab stands I ate at over there. Brings back fond memories. Open late, food is really good. I usually get the P1 with extra meat and a side order of falafel, they give you a garlic sauce with it and it's tasty. I've also had the gyro w spicy sauce it was good (especially the pita they use for the wrap) but I wanted more meat in there, I'll get extra meat next time. This is my first time stopping by the new location after they left West Campus, and I'm glad everything still tastes the same! Ordered P17, which is Creamy Jalapeño Meat/Veggie over Rice. I went with the veggie, and picked falafel and eggplant as my options. Order came out fast, portions were generous food tasted great, the eggplants were the highlight. Not really a spicy person, but their Jalapeño sauce was absolutely delicious. Great place for vegetarian, they have over half a dozen items for vegetarians/vegans. Opens late (4am Fridays and Saturdays according to the in-store menu), great for those late night cravings! All in all, I'm so glad I stopped by. If you missed the old Kismet, the new location won't disappoint. While not as cozy, it is a lot cleaner now and conveniently located next to an HEB so you can get your groceries taken care of. This was my first time at kismet cafe after finding a them on yelp, so here's the highs and the lows. So I ordered the gyro wrap, with Taziki sauce lettuce and tomato with a side of fries, and baklava, for take-out. The wrap itself was pretty good. Nothing spectacular flavor-wise, but the Taziki sauce was delicious and added a nice amount of flavor. The tomatoes and lettuce on it were really fresh and crisp without making it soggy. The fries were pretty good as well and nicely seasoned. The major downside here is that the to-go boxes aren't held under any warmer lights, cooler, or anything else like that so it was sitting at room temperature for probably at least 10 min before I got there, and was barely warm by the time I got home. I also ordered a side of hummus and a baklava which I never received. I didn't realize until I got home and at that point it wasn't worth driving all the way back for. I was still charged for both with no explanation of why I didn't get them so I wasted about $7. I'd like to try them again to give them another chance and hopefully they will get the order right. read more

The decor was nice and simple with tastes of their culture on the wall. I've been to their precious location on guad and believe me that this new location is much cleaner. It's spacious as well and feels like a proper restaurant. I didn't get to actually sit down and see how they run the place, but from the time we entered and left, it was lively and efficient. The wrap itself was good. I got it spicy and there was a nice kick to it. I've been eyeing this place to reopen, and finally they opened their new location at Hancock (before it was on the Drag). Just as good as I remembered, except now it doesn't look run down and sad...plus parking. That wasn't really the top thought, but when you *don't* have parking, it takes notice. In my circle, there is a toss up between Kismet and Halal Bros, and personally, they feel like different takes on the same food. Halal has that trendy, fast food vibe, and Kismet has the mama's food vibe. Either way, your tummy will be a happy camper!! The staff up front was friendly and welcoming, a great start to happy customers. Keep it up! Initially, we were sad when we didn't see "plates" on the TV menus but quickly reassured that they still offer it (one of their TVs is broken). Anyways, the food came out nice and quick, and we were drooling to have it. I think I misunderstood the P-7 for some reason, expecting rice still, but the hummus was so creamy that I finished it happily all the same. The meat was delicious in all its glory flavor, hummus amazingly creamy to spread on the pita, salad refreshing with a nice crunch of cucumbers and bell pepper, and the tabbouleh with a variety of textures. To wrap up, we ordered a couple of baklavas. The flakiness was appreciated, but it was a little too sweet for me. In general, baklava seems like its concept is honey-soaked, so might just be me.
