Delicious & Worth the Stop! Halal Time is a true gem in East Austin! The chicken over rice was packed with flavor--tender meat, fluffy rice, and their sauces are so good. Portions are big and prices are fair. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. If you're in the area, this food truck is a must-try!

I am so glad to see Halal Time still thriving on E. 6th! Drove by last weekend and the area was packed. Parking is not easy but made my way over to this trailer. Sam (the owner) was there, working his tail off as usual. I went for his awesome Falafel over rice, minus the yellow sauce. And it's been a while but his cheese fries are to die for! After several years - the falafel here is still the best I have ever had - no joke. It has this nice robust seasoning and a tad bit of heat to it. No other falafel tastes as good as his. It's my favorite dish here - anything falafel. I love his red and white sauce too. Now - he used to have purple pickles, and they were slightly sweet, but he changed the recipe to a salty pickle. They are good, but those purple sweet pickles were oh so awesome, and a great balance with the savory dishes. Those cheese fries - omg - now I know it's just melted cheese in the microwave added to his crispy fries - but he adds in the white and red sauce, and ketchup, and oh man that is an awesome late night gluttony dish. I just love it. Took the two dishes home to share with my neighbor girl - she went nuts and now she's in love........with Halal Time, not me. ; - )

I love Halal time!! I get the falafel plate and it's enough for my partner and I to get full, with a side of the fries. We can always count on Halal time on a late night! The customer service is always genuine and pleasant. We Always look forward to going back! You won't regret it! The environment is always nice and we feel welcomed to eat there or in our car!

    Chicken over rice

Classic halal cart although you can't beat their price. Only $12.99 for a chicken over rice plate, I feel like most carts charge $15-16. They give you a lot portion wise and load up the white sauce

I love halal food, and I love places that open late even more. My friend highly recommended this food truck and after a long night out, it truly hit the spot. I recommend getting their gyro over rice. As you can tell, they give a really good balance of salad, meat, and rice. They were also super generous with the white sauce, which I love. I like the rice grains a lot because I've been to some halal food places where the rice grains are a bit too hard. Overall, 10/10 halal food. I will be coming back again and again.

So I have developed a halal addiction since a few weeks ago. My latest halal adventure happened while having drinks at the Low Down Lounge. Halal Time is right next door and conveniently open early. I had lamb shawarma and chicken over rice and it was so good. I was disappointed about the garbanzo beans given I had ordered it without but other than that, I was extremely satisfied with my food.

Halal Time is a good time! logistics: We came here after happy hour drinks in East Austin based off a recommendation from some guy with a podcast. We had street parking and just walked the couple blocks over. food: This is the perfect late-night, after drinks food. Given it was only 9pm or 10 pm on a Friday, it wasn't busy. They didn't have Falafel that night (probably because of the ice storm), but the lamb was cooked to perfection. That white sauce is the star. I think it's tzatziki and it's delicious on the rice and the fries! I ordered fries for the drive home and they were so crispy and warm. In-n-out needs to take some notes. service: The service was outstanding! The gentleman who took our order was so kind and helpful. He apologized multiple times for the wait and it had only been about 10 min. I really appreciated that even though I was perfectly fine waiting.

Excellent fries - huge portion! Like, seriously, absolutely the best French fries I've ever had!! The lamb over rice was also very good per my husband's discerning feedback.

Was looking for a quick and easy bite and saw this food truck with a decent line even after 9pm. I got the lamb wrap to share and it was delicious! Loved the flavors of the lamb and the veggies tasted fresh and gave the wrap a nice crunch. I appreciated that there were a few benches near the trucks that we could sit and eat out!

My favorite Mediterranean food in Austin. I've been to Israel and I am a snob about fresh food. This food truck is consistently great.

Both times, the food has been spectacular, the service off the page, and the atmosphere and ambiance magnificent. We tried three mezzes last night, and each was killer. The hummus was the smoothest I've ever eaten and with the brisket, it was killer! We tried the whipped feta with pistachios, and it was special -- salty/sweet and a little something special to make you wonder just what the spice was. The lamb & beef keftas were also excellent, with the lemon rice and a nice tsadziki -- and we make keftas at home fairly regularly, so we know what a good one tastes like. The only regret that we had was that we only have one stomach each. A second would have allowed us to keep tasting... Don't miss it. Even the patio dining was cool and refreshing -- and it was 86º when we were eating dinner!

Music Lane is a beautiful area with corridors bustling with fresh air, which greatly contrasts the area not too far south of it. Aba lies within these corridors, so I was completely gobsmacked to see the size of the establishment and its number of seating. There are outdoor tables, a dedicated bar section, a decently large interior, and patio and sofa seats for the people waiting. Even then, the place was completely packed, so getting a reservation is an absolute must. Not only are the prices completely reasonable, the food itself had everything that I was looking for: a delicious spread starter, a balanced fiber dish, and an entree with intentional flavors and texture. The Short Rib Hummus is a must get! It is incredibly filling and completely worth the price. The short rib was a nice meat protein since I opted for a seafood main, and the pita bread that it came with was lightly seasoned and was as fluffy as it could possibly be. I could not eat much of my Brussel Sprouts because it was also very large. However it was not too oily or drenched, and each bite had a perfect light crunch, which is the standard for Fried Brussels Sprouts. Top it all off, the Grilled Branzino was the finisher to my savory dishes. The grill gave the fish a roasted flavor, which was complimented by the sweetness from the corn purée. The various greens, roasted tomatoes, and corn pieces themselves added bites of textures and secondary bursts of flavor. I can see why it took a month in advanced to book a decent time at Aba Austin. The atmosphere was so perfect because the air flows through all the doors and windows, allowing the diners to enjoy fresh oxygen. This place is a must visit, both as an experience and a meal that is WORTH the bill.

The kebabs are the true highlight...juicy, flavorful, and grilled to perfection. The portions are quite large as the hubs and I shared a wrap. So, I assume that Usta staff are sub-contracting from Shawarma King. Usta also has freshly baked bread and classic sides like hummus and rice paired with the main dishes. The restaurant has a homey, lived in feel. It has a few middle eastern artifacts sprinkled throughout the restaurant. The menu offers a wide variety of options, from Iraqi and Adana kebabs to shawarma and traditional Middle Eastern plates, so there are food items for both first timers and regulars who want to explore beyond the basics. They also serve flatbreads where you can have two different toppings. The food focus is on bold, traditional flavors rather than modern takes on middle eastern foods. On the desserts front, they have an assortment of desserts and several sections of ice cream. I had the baklava, which was surprisingly delicious...it was not eye-squinting sweet like a standard baklava. It was crunchy, flavorful, and had nuts that were substantial. Layla, my server, was so super sweet and welcoming. She pointed out that Usta provides its customers free tea. How cool is that? I cannot remember last time I received a free drink.

Loro is an Asian smokehouse and bar featuring grilled and smoked meats with Southeast Asian and Japanese-inspired sauces, sides, and a bar that boasts craft beer, boozy slushees, and batch cocktails. Parking at this location is a bit of a challenge. They have overflow parking in the back but the spots are really small. We sat at the bar area and worked our way through cocktails, apps, and dessert. We opened a tab and the bar staff takes your order which is convenient, versus how you normally have to order by waiting in line at the bar. The bar staff was extremely busy because they have to make all the cocktails and take the line orders at the bar. They are a master of multitasking. It was $3 martini night on Tuesday, so was excited to sample the four different drink options. lychee martini, Mexican martini, and Lucky Cat cosmo martini. Lychee martini is made with new amsterdam vodka, sake, elderflower, Mexican martini with espolon blanco, olive, yuzu, lime and cosmo with vodka, blood orange, naranja, lime. The lychee was hands down my favorite of the three. We started with the Dip Sampler that included a trifecta of smoked shishito queso, smoked salmon dip and Thai green salsa with the Siete blue corn tortilla chips. We went through the chips quickly and got a second round of wonton chips which I preferred to the Siete chips. Tried the Mango Chamoy frozen Slushee with Siete Chamoy Botana Sauce & Siete Chile Lime Seasoning Rim, passionfruit, Aperol, Sake and Sparkling Wine which was refreshing. All their boozy slushies are $5 during happy hour. Ordered the oak grilled edamame from the happy hour menu and it was a flavor explosion with a dusting of serracha powder, lemon zest and white sesame. For dinner, I ordered my go-to rice bowl with coconut-scented rice, seasonal pickles, thai herbs and steak as the protein. They normally served this with Bavette, but the steak was a bit tough and chewy this time. Finished everything off with cheesecake with five spice crumble, yuzu marmalade for dessert. The vibe at the bar was relaxed and lively without feeling overwhelming, and the collab menu felt creative without trying too hard. The ingredients are very thoughtful for a fully developed flavor profile. Just what I would expect from the culinary minds of Tyson Cole and Aaron Franklin. Definitely one of the regulars in my list when craving good cocktails with a casual but elevated food menu.

All of the dishes were a little bit on the saucy side and a little bit salty but good overall. If you go for dinner and sit outside, make sure you get one of the fly fans to keep the flies at bay otherwise they descend with a vengeance. $3 martini nights (but they can't do an NA martini) so it was pretty packed but I'm told it's always packed. Review: Fierce Flavors at Austin's Top 100 BBQ Tucked into a…read morequintessential corner lot, this Austin food truck isn't just serving barbecue; it's serving a certified experience. As a recipient of the prestigious Texas Monthly Top 100 BBQ Award, the expectations were high--and for the most part, they were met. The venue itself provides a fantastic, relaxed vibe, complete with plenty of TVs and a music stage, making it the perfect spot for chilling out on a lazy afternoon or settling in for an evening hang. The Main Event: Pitmaster Excellence The true test of a Texas BBQ joint is the holy trinity, and here, they nailed the fundamentals: * Brisket: This was Texas BBQ as it should be. The brisket was super juicy, delivered a profound, deep flavor, and possessed a flawless, great bark that spoke to hours of skillful smoking * Spare Ribs: A study in contrast and texture. The ribs offered a satisfying "good pull"--firm enough to bite but still falling cleanly off the bone. The thick, peppery bark was beautifully balanced by a slight sweetness from a pepper jelly glaze, adding a layer of sophisticated flavor you don't always find. * Pork Belly Burnt Ends: These were pure decadence. Each bite provided a delicious, melt-in-your-mouth experience with a distinct and welcome hint of Fierce Whiskers bourbon woven into the smoky, fatty flavor. They are so rich and irresistible, you know you shouldn't eat too many, but good luck stopping. * Jalapeño and Cheese Sausage: This locally sourced link brought the heat with a good level of spice. The flavor was excellent, though the texture leaned slightly toward the processed side, which was the only minor drawback among the meats. The Supporting Cast: Sides A great plate of BBQ requires sides that stand up to the meat, and while two of these were stars, one needs a little work. * Mac & Cheese: An absolute winner. It was cheesy, creamy, and featured an excellent smoked flavor that permeated the dish. The slightly charred edges added a delightful textural counterpoint. * Hash Brown Casserole: This was a surprisingly strong contender, offering a nice assembly of savory flavors. The secret weapon was the corn flake topping, providing an unexpected but welcome crunch, complemented by a satisfying hint of bacon. * Creamed Corn: Unfortunately, this side was the weakest link. It tasted primarily bland, despite a slight peppery note. It desperately needs some fresh jalapeños mixed in to cut through the creaminess and add the essential Texas kick. Final Verdict The meat selection here is truly Top 100 worthy, excelling in technique, flavor, and execution (especially the Brisket and Burnt Ends). The atmosphere is perfect for a relaxed gathering. While the Creamed Corn missed the mark, the stellar Hash Brown Casserole and Smoked Mac & Cheese prove that their side game is usually strong. Come for the high-quality, authentic Texas barbecue, stay for the great outdoor patio.
