This time, I barely managed to squeeze one into my trip, and it was kind of a last minute stop from a food truck that wasn't even on Yelp. It was fine, but I was left yearning for more after barely getting a taste of it. Enter: my trip to Austin. Upon doing my food research, I was struck by Halal Time's great rating and couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit. I was staying in a hotel less than a mile away, which made it even easier to stop by. The result? I wouldn't say it fully hit the spot on what I'd remembered from old NYC trips, but I did enjoy it. First let me start and say the portion is huge. I could not finish it and it was very tasty. At first I thought it was too much sauce but once you mix everything together. It was the perfect amount. the chicken meal and baklava dessert was $17 which I felt was good price. My complaint. I preordered on door dash and picked up my order and 3 of my coworkers orders. I get a 30 min lunch and it takes me 8 min to get there and another 8 min to get so I should have had plenty of time. I go up to the window, tell him I'm here to pick up the order and he says door dash has not given him orders for 3 days. So my orders were not made. I am so glad to see Halal Time still thriving on E. 6th! Drove by last weekend and the area was packed. Parking is not easy but made my way over to this trailer. Sam (the owner) was there, working his tail off as usual. I went for his awesome Falafel over rice, minus the yellow sauce. And it's been a while but his cheese fries are to die for! After several years - the falafel here is still the best I have ever had - no joke. It has this nice robust seasoning and a tad bit of heat to it. No other falafel tastes as good as his. It's my favorite dish here - anything falafel. I love his red and white sauce too. Now - he used to have purple pickles, and they were slightly sweet, but he changed the recipe to a salty pickle. They are good, but those purple sweet pickles were oh so awesome, and a great balance with the savory dishes. Those cheese fries - omg - now I know it's just melted cheese in the microwave added to his crispy fries - but he adds in the white and red sauce, and ketchup, and oh man that is an awesome late night gluttony dish. I love halal food, and I love places that open late even more. My friend highly recommended this food truck and after a long night out, it truly hit the spot. I recommend getting their gyro over rice. As you can tell, they give a really good balance of salad, meat, and rice. They were also super generous with the white sauce, which I love. Halal Time is a good time! logistics: We came here after happy hour drinks in East Austin based off a recommendation from some guy with a podcast. We had street parking and just walked the couple blocks over. food: This is the perfect late-night, after drinks food. Given it was only 9pm or 10 pm on a Friday, it wasn't busy. They didn't have Falafel that night (probably because of the ice storm), but the lamb was cooked to perfection. That white sauce is the star. I think it's tzatziki and it's delicious on the rice and the fries! I ordered fries for the drive home and they were so crispy and warm. This is a food truck on the east side of 6th street. There are picnic tables out front but they aren't shaded, so stop in after sundown. We ordered two combination plates. It's lamb and chicken over rice with tomato, lettuce, pickle and chickpeas on the side, all covered in a delicious white sauce. Even when we were mostly through with the meal, the flavor was strong and delicious. I usually hate rice. It is absolutely decadent under the meat and sauce. I would crave this every day. read more

Food truck on East 6th near the bars, great for late night food after some drinks or even a stop by for dinner if you're in the mood for Mediterranean food. I was excited to try this place after seeing the 5 star reviews and its not too far from my house. Stopped by on a Thursday evening after a workout with a friend and there was no line which was very nice. We both got the combo (gyro + chicken) rice plates, comes with salad and tzatziki sauce + spicy sauce. The spicy sauce had good flavor and a decent kick to it. I thought the chicken was a bit too dry hence 4 stars instead of 5 stars but the gyro meat was solid. I would come back to try it again (hopefully the chicken isn't dry next time around) or would try other things on the menu. My other knock on this is the price of the food for being a food truck; food truck overhead should be lower than brick and mortar but their prices are the same as a sit down restaurant - its around $12-$13 for the rice plates. I get it you're paying for the location and convenience by the bars, but you can get other Mediterranean places with dedicated free parking and indoor seat (with AC) for the same price or slightly less in Austin. read more

Landed at Austin and directly went to Halal Time since this was one of the few well rated food trucks that was open way past midnight.. we ordered the chicken and falafel wrap (delicious love the sauce and the falafel was nice crispy crunchy while the chicken was juicy and flavorful - great wrap), chicken over rice was great, falafel over rice was great too. If you check in via Yelp they offer free french fries with your order and their french fries are really good served with hot sauce.. if you like your food spicy then please ask for additional hot sauce to add to your wrap or rice bowl.. overall loved our dinner here at Halal Time.. there was a huge line post 1am and I can see this place being really busy on a weekend..highly recommend these guys! read more

The food arrived looking perfectly fine, but as I dug into my lamb over my rice dish - I realized everything was so heavily salted. I appreciate that this is probably the only Halal place I've eaten where I don't feel greasy afterwards as it's surprisingly light (if that's possible?). In any case Halal Time is perfect for dinner or a late night. I liked the lamb over rice: fresh lettuce, tomatoes, chickpeas, pickles on the side with the white sauce and the hot sauce. The hot sauce here is not super spicy like other places, so you should be safe to go. Personally, I really like the lamb here because they do a thorough job letting it crisp on the griddle, so it's not just fatty and salty, but also has those crispy bits that we all love. Halal Time is awesome! I ordered their Gyro over Rice. I loved how the dish came with lots of gyro and white sauce. The portion was a really good size and had good ratios of meat/rice/sauce which is typically hard to get right. I also love how they are opened later so if you're looking for a late-night affordable snack it's the perfect place. The prices here are also really great/reasonable compared to other Halal places I've been to.
