    Mezze plate
    Rosie M.

I ordered the Mezza plate. The dish itself had a side salad, falafels, hummus, baba ghanoush, tzatziki and a side of lavash. I was hoping that it would have some chili sauce on the side, but there was nothing to really give it any flavor. The best part of the dish were the falafel themselves since they were crispy on the outside and not too greasy, which is fantastic. The second best part of the dish was a hummus, which was lemony and creamy. I'm glad that I was able to order healthy food at a late time of the evening and DoorDash brought it all the way up to my room.

At least the fries were pretty good.

I was craving some good Greek, so a friend and I met here for lunch. This was my first time here, so I stuck with my standard gyro wrap. While my wrap was certainly acceptable, it didn't stand out in any way that would make me want to come back. That X factor that makes us say, "I definitely want to eat here again!" Is not based on any one thing, even the quality of the food--though that's important. Ambiance is part of it, and Kismet is reasonably pleasant, but despite the nice tile, the carpets and travel posters on the wall, it has a somewhat generic feel. In short, it feels like a fast-casual place because of the decor and the fact that you order at the counter, but the prices, to me at least, seem more appropriate for a table service restaurant. I paid $14 for my Gyro Wrap and yogurt drink (that I fetched myself from the cooler). The wrap itself was smallish, and dumped on my table, a lonely little foil-wrapped thing on a cafeteria tray. I felt disappointed before I even unwrapped it. Once unwrapped, I realized I had no napkins or tableware and had to go get my own "napkins," by tearing a bit off a roll of paper towels on the stand on the other side of the cafe. It tasted okay, but I wished I hadn't gone with "spicy," which the order taker recommended. It wasn't TERRIBLY hot, but it was intrusive enough that I could barely taste the meat. My friend ordered a "quesadilla," which came in a takeout-style clamshell and was also dumped at our table on a tray, with no napkin or implements. I asked how it was, and she just said it was okay. She did share her fries, which were hot and fresh. If my wrap had been exquisite, huge, or memorable in any way, I might have forgiven all of the disappointing aspects of this first visit. But it wasn't. There are just too many places in Austin where I can sit at a nice table, be waited on, be given napkins and tableware and PLATES, spend just a little more $$ and have much better food (and an entire MEAL) and have a much more pleasant experience. I won't be back.

I came to Kismit Café to explore some new places in my area. I ordered the Chicken and Gyro plate along with a slice of baklava. It was a rainy Saturday evening, and the café was doing well, with a couple of tables occupied by diners and two people ahead of me for takeout. The food came out really quickly; I was still reading the rest of the menu, considering ordering a Cauliflower Exploding Wrap with fries, when my order was ready. The trade-off, however, was that the plate was probably just at room temperature--I would have preferred the meat and rice to be hotter. The plate included two sauces and pita bread. I enjoyed making myself a wrap with the tzatziki sauce. The baklava for takeout came in a sealed plastic container. While the taste was fine, it wasn't as fresh as I had hoped. Overall, the experience was fine, but I can't say it's a place I would actively seek out. The most memorable aspect was the speed of service. This place would work well if you're looking to grab food quickly, and the option to choose two meats at a reasonable price is a nice perk.

Truly a classic for UT students and alumni! I am so glad they were open late. I had a gyro, which was pretty good and substantial. The service was fast and friendly, with no delay from the kitchen. This is a great place to meet with your friends or large groups. Or by yourself, or takeout works as well.

I come to Kismet almost every time I visit Austin because it is just that good! They have many vegetarian options, but my favorite is definitely the chicken plate! They provide a large quantity so it ia great that that provide all orders in to go containers. You can eat as much as you can and take the rest to go easily! One plate can easily be shared by two people. The eggplant was my favorite veggie item. I also highly recommend mixing the rice with the white and red sauce! I'm not a huge fan of the tzatziki sauce but the regular white and red sauce are such a fire combo here! They do not disappoint with these sauces! It is also amazing that that don't charge extra for these sauces, where most other stores have been charging for any sauce they provide. The waiter was very patient because we took a while to order since there were so many options. He even took the time to explain what the items on the menu were. The ambience is a bit more on a chill size. Some of the seating is torn up and the bathroom isn't super clean, but the food is worth it! You can always take it to go if the ambience does not fit your vibe!

The loaded Gyro is an absolute must! So much flavor is the sauce!! I walked out paying just under $25 for two people and with left overs, it was so worth it. Big tip, if you get the loaded gyro, get it spicy with fries on the side, so GOOD. The service was friendly and super fast. I don't think we waited more than 5 minutes after we sat. For a cheap dinner that's packed full of flavor you got to try it out! Plus the music choice is absolutely PERFECT

The P17 at Kismet is to die for! There are many halal bowl options in the Austin area but I truly believe this one has to be the best. There's something about that jalapeño sauce that is so incredible and unreplicable. The style of this place is "build your own" with choosing from bowls or pitas. Flavor and quantity is plentiful. Not the best area to sit and eat so would recommend take out

My go-to place after seeing a show at the Bass Concert Hall. Tasty, affordable, big portion sizes, and open late. Love how smooth the hummus is here, and how tangy the tabbouleh salad is. The meat is good and very generously portioned. I always end up getting something different and it's always good.

Casual Mediterranean spot. Generous portions and the salad tastes fresh. I got the drizzled plate with chicken. I think the chicken was a bit overcooked. I like the spicy hot sauce they use. Good spot for a quick and casual meal.

    P16 Vegetarian Mezza
    Ang F.

Needed a spot to grab something vegetarian and filling, for a Lenten Friday. Kismet came up as an option for the Mediterranean in the area. While I'm not too fond of the shopping area, I would certainly recommend Kismet. Easy to order, either with an employee at the counter or using their kiosk screen. Tables kept clean. I ordered the Vegetarian Mezza with a side of Lentil soup and a side of extra hummus. Would order again! The hummus was served smooth and creamy, unlike gritty hummus you'd find at a store. The falafel was crisp and not overly oily. The eggplant dip, despite looking similar to the hummus, had a distinct taste that added variety to the dish. Also came with tabouli.

Eggplant dip is lovely, hummus traditional and solid. VERY good proportions for the price (2 for roughly $25). Chicken over rice is simple and still a staple for me. Cauliflower is nice and the pita is great with the dips Cheers!

Best halal in the area. Always fresh, always fast, and great service. The falafel comes out piping hot and crispy. The spicy beef Arabi is so good and filling. Love this place

Veggie over rice plate (accidentally subbed hummus for salad) with Fried Cauliflower and zucchini
    Karson S.

Walked in and saw contact free codes all over tables for easy ordering. You can also order up at the counter if you'd like. I got the veggie plate with rice. Ordering on phone with Toast was slightly confusing on what subbing meant (I accidentally ordered double salad when I was trying to specify that I wanted hummus - will order at the counter next time probably just to be sure). Salad was not great. Grape leaves were alright. I got the fried cauliflower and fried zucchini - zucchini was great and rice was great, cauliflower was only gently charred on the outside but still just seemed steamed in the middle. Had to cover with the garlic sauce to eat it. Will definitely come back though to try the chicken over rice (and hummus). The service was quite fast. Also, the baklava was great!

Being Greek and visiting Austin, trying the local Greek restaurant was a must. I'd heard Yamas was…read morethe best Greek spot in town, so my brother, my daughter, and I decided to see if it lived up to the hype. From the moment we arrived, it felt like we had been transported to a little taverna on a Greek island. The crisp white walls, iconic blue window frames and shutters, and charming atmosphere immediately set the tone. Even more impressive was the hospitality. From the hostess to our server, and even the owner stopping by our table, everyone embodied the warm, welcoming Greek hospitality I grew up with. The appetizer menu was so tempting that we wished we had ten stomachs. We settled on the octopus, spanakopita, saganaki, keftedes, and a horiatiki salad, and I'm so glad we did. The octopus was cooked perfectly, tender and seasoned with excellence. The spanakopita was beautifully flaky with a satisfying crunch, and the filling was rich and flavorful. The tzatziki was incredibly fresh and honestly some of the best I've had in a long time. The biggest surprise of the night was the saganaki served with fig jam. I never would have thought those flavors belonged together, but they absolutely did. It was a standout dish. The keftedes were also fantastic, juicy, well-seasoned, and packed with flavor. For our entrées, we ordered the pastitsio, gouvetsi, and chicken souvlaki. While the appetizers truly stole the show, the main courses didn't quite reach the same level. We did arrive close to closing time, so that may have played a role. The pastitsio had great flavor overall, and the béchamel was beautifully prepared, but some of the pasta was a bit firm, and I personally would have loved a touch more cinnamon. The gouvetsi had excellent texture, but it was a little too salty for my taste, but that didn't stop my daughter from devouring it. The chicken souvlaki was unfortunately on the dry side and a bit tough. Even with those minor disappointments, I'd absolutely return. The menu is filled with so many traditional Greek comfort foods that I'd love to come back and explore more of what they have to offer. The appetizers alone are worth the visit, and the atmosphere and genuine hospitality made the experience feel like a little taste of Greece right here in Austin. If you're looking for authentic Greek flavors, a beautiful setting, and genuine (Greek hospitality), Yamas is definitely worth adding to your Austin dining list.

Some of our favorite dishes we keep coming back for: Shredded beef (SO good), Baked fish (tender and not fishy), Garlic baked chicken (wonderful crispy skin), Fried chicken, Baked kafta, Kafta kebab, Gyro meat, Roasted cauliflower, Eggplant, Greek salad, Fatoush, Kale Caesar salad, Zaatar pizza, Cheese pizza (pro tip: top it with shredded beef- a life changing buffet hack), Rice with lentils, Rice with mixed veggies. Bora made some excellent food choices for us and we enjoyed everything he suggested. He was very polite and did not rush us as at all. The restaurant manager also came by our table several times to ensure we were enjoying our meal. Overall high rate the Peacock, if you are in the area it is a must.

We spent around $600 with tip and fees for 5 (mixed grill, two apps, two drinks each); and while the food was delicious the meats were luke warm not piping hot, our server while very friendly was not the best at giving suggestions (basically she said everything is good lol) and wasn't able to split the check 2/3 and 1/3 instead of 50/50 ("... I don't know how to do that"), and the cocktails while tasty didn't really feel special enough to be $21-25 each. It was a very enjoyable experience I just don't know that it lived up to the price tag. For that price I'm looking for exceptional not just very good. That being said the food was delicious! Pricey but pretty good portions. The server said the mixed grill was good for around 4 people, but with two apps it was actually a little too much food for the 5 of us. Mixed grill ($220): -Rosewood Wagyu Strip and Lamb Chops: tie between these two for the best dish; they were both juicy and tender and the sauces were delicious. Not served piping hot but they were so good I didn't really mind. -Harissa Marinated Beef Tenderloin: great flavor- a tad dry. -Spiced Lamb Kefta: also dry, I liked it best with the yogurt sauce. -Red Pepper Chicken Thigh: delicious, one of my fav kabobs. -Herb & Garlic Shrimp: tasty and not overcooked -Charred King Trumpet mushroom: loved the veggie option! they mushrooms were substantial and the sauce was great. -Crispy Shallot Hummus: very good- loved the crispy shallots in particular! -Manti Dumplings: top app- I would 100% order this again the dumplings were delicious and the sauce/yogurt on top of them was the best, we wiped up every drop with the pitas! -The pita bread was hot, fresh, and delicious and our service kept on offering more, so I don't know if they've changed their policy but my experience was not the same as reviews that said only one pita per person. We refused extra pitas 3 times I think! Cocktails- everything we tried was quite good, but again there wasn't the pizaz or just 'blown away by the flavor' to feel that the crazy price was totally justified. We tried: Spanish G&T (very refreshing- don't chew on the juniper berries lol), Banana Bread Old Fashioned (pretty good even for someone who doesn't much like whiskey!), Bonfire on a Beach (fun, smokey, love the harissa on the side), Peach Martini (teensy bit sweet for me but good). The manager stopped by a few times to check on us and our server was very attentive. She did give us good service its just for the high price I would expect some more detailed suggestions on drinks, being able to split the check other than 50/50 (or at least ask someone instead of just saying 'I don't know how'). It was friendly and enthusiastic service just not 'wow this truly is fine dining' service. Outside of the restaurant, parking is a bit of a pain but that is normal for down town. We parked at the Laz garage half a block away- $8 for 2 hrs instead of the $27 for valet.

In Austin visiting and being from Buffalo and having a Greek family I wanted to get some Greek…read morefood. No Yia Yia around so I had to go out and find a place. Well after looking at several restaurants on yelp I found that most restaurants were Mediterranean but more middle eastern than Greek. Until I saw Opa. Well my wife and I gave it a shot. And we were pretty well pleased. We had a Greek salad where all the ingredients were super fresh with a nice pita bread and a grape leaf and a 2 nice pieces of feta. I also had a chicken gyro. Again all super fresh veggies filled the pita wrap and very tasty chicken. They had outdoor seating for our dog who was our dinner guest. But you have to order inside. Which I did. The person who took the order was busy but did a great job. We asked for a couple of large glasses of water with lemon and she promptly took care of us. There were small glasses out on the table but we wanted large ones cus we didn't want to keep walking inside. No problem. Food arrived after a short while and was delicious. They have a nice parking lot however getting in and out can be a little bit crazy when you have everyone from Austin rushing home. Had to wait a long time to get to exit the parking lot cus not one Texan driver would give us a break and let me in the exit lane. Next time I see a Texas license plate in New York I will remember that. But I will still give them a break.

Parking was a bit of a challenge but was able to park on the curb out front. Once inside, we placed our order at the counter and pre-paid and were given a number. They have an extensive menu with traditional Greek dishes and all-day breakfast options. As well as a full bar offering aromatic coffee, hand-crafted cocktails, fine wine, and a selection of local and international beers. The restaurant was busy we were able to place our order in a timely fashion. I opted for a cocktail along with lentils and rice and added chicken as the protein. There was indoor and outdoor seating available. After ordering, we sat outside in the most cozy and intimate outdoor seating area. Unfortunately, after waiting 30+ minutes, we never received our food. When we checked at the counter, the interaction felt pretty condescending, staff insisted the order had already been brought out even though we never received it and still had our number with us. At that point we had to cancel the order so we wouldn't miss our show. I do appreciate that they offered a full refund without issue, but overall the experience left us disappointed, especially with how the situation was handled.

I'm a sucker for Greek food, but I also know the difference between good Greek cuisine and the mediocre versions you sometimes find. Thankfully, this was firmly in the first category. We started with the Skordalia, a whipped potato dip that I had never tried before. It was as creamy as hummus but as comforting and savory as mashed potatoes and the warm grilled pita took it to the next level. Next came the grilled octopus, which was cooked perfectly. It was incredibly tender with none of the chewiness that can often ruin an octopus dish. The accompanying sauce tied everything together beautifully without overpowering the seafood. For our entrées I ordered the lamb special, while my partner chose the lamb skewer. Both were outstanding and easily some of the best lamb dishes we've had at any restaurant in Austin. The meat was flavorful, tender and expertly prepared. To round out the experience, the service was attentive without ever feeling intrusive and the restaurant itself strikes a great balance between cozy and stylish, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Overall, this was an excellent meal from start to finish. I'll definitely be back, perhaps to check out happy hour or brunch next time.

When we learned this restaurant would still offer the same style of fresh Mediterranean cuisine, we couldn't wait to give it a try. The décor is subtle, tasteful, and fits the atmosphere perfectly. We sat at the bar, enjoyed chatting with the staff, and were lucky enough to meet the owner, Daphne, during our visit. Everything we ordered was fantastic! We especially loved the Pikilia, the Greek-style fried chicken, the Greek potatoes, and the chicken skewer. To top it all off, we finished with the baklava, which was fresh, perfectly moist, and absolutely delicious. The food was outstanding, and Daphne and her team made us feel so welcome.
