When we arrived at the restaurant, it was just before a significant storm, leaving the place empty. The only other patron was a gentleman who quickly devoured a plate of sushi, featuring three or four rolls, in under three minutes--impressive! We decided on a a variety of dishes. We started with the scallops and steak, accompanied by a side of onion, and later opted for chicken and pork belly. The scallops were good. The steak was equally tasty. As for the onion, it was just an onion, nothing extraordinary. Unfortunately, the chicken didn't quite hit the mark for me, and the pork belly fell flat--it was simply unappetizing. However, the sauces were a highlight of the meal. The staff was more than generous, happily providing extra helpings of my favorites. The soy-based sauce stood out as particularly delicious, enhancing the flavors of our dishes. My husband, on the other hand, couldn't get enough of the hot sauce; he mentioned it was pleasantly flavorful without being overly fiery, making it just right for those who appreciate a touch of spice. We also shared the jalapeño tuna appetizer, which my husband declared to be the best he's ever tasted. While I found them delicious, I hesitated to agree with his exalted claim--there are many worthy contenders in my culinary adventures! The service was excellent, likely due to the lack of other diners. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making it a lovely local spot to experience dining, especially the cooking your own food. We took our time, enjoying a couple of drinks and soaking in the sights of the street outside, and the approaching storm. All in all, it was a wonderfully leisurely meal, a nice departure from our usual rushed dinners. The restaurant offered a comfortable ambiance, and I would certainly return. While it may not crack my top five favorite dining spots, it's definitely nestled comfortably in the top 25 of restaurants I've enjoyed. Enticing and delightfully delicious, superb service, quality atmosphere only ruined by trashy pop music blaring unruly from a speaker playing half static and half worse, and a massive menu with plenty to entice the sushi lover and sushi avoider make this a must dish dive for the raw seafood, rice bowls, and basic Japanese fare. I was still surprised after the second visit a week later how sprawling the menu goes offering a solid variety, amazing chef's rolls and basic familiar ones, and appetizing authentic looking entrees. Excellent appetizers too, quality gyoza and egg rolls, will definitely have to get to the other options once we get to most of the rolls, so far the Fuji is possibly my favorite! Check out those photos, it's a top tier craft here that easily ties with Maru for the best I've had in the area. A bummer the eastern beers are not on tap like Yatagarasu however the wine and sake looks plenty fine for aspiring slow drinkers. The food is good. We were brought some soup, it sure what it was. My sushi was alright and my mom enjoyed her noodles. Our server was very nice. Only downside is that it was a Monday night and only one server for the whole restaurant. We waited forever for our food and by the time I finished my sushi two more plates came out. Nothing was brought out together. We all ate separately and didn't even get all of our food. It was busy for a Monday and I appreciate our server but be prepared to wait. They did bring me out a fried cheesecake for my bday which was literally sweet and delicious. read more

Very cute little spot downtown. The decor is a little random, but cute. A few touches of Asian culture. Our server was kind and accommodating. Not over the top, but helpful and efficient. My kimchi fried rice was to die for. There's a lot there so you can make a whole meal out of it or split it, the rolls were delicious as well. I played it safe to start with the Friday Nite roll. Nice flavor. My husband enjoyed both of his rolls. He loved the Kitami Cowboy. He said it's one of the spiciest he's had so keep that in mind. Tried this for the first time to switch sushi night up a little. The sushi was good but it didn't leave me waiting for the next time I would get it again. The prices were fair and the service we received picking up our carry out order was good. I think we'll stick to our normal love, Sushi Don, but this place was not bad. had a great experience at kitami! i think their sushi is better than their yakiniku. for yakiniku we ordered kobe beef and beef brisket. kobe beef was nice and tender. the beef brisket was not great -- it was pretty tough and tasteless all around. we thought it was cool that they gave us beef fat to grease the tallow with! it is definitely different than other cuisine barbecues. for sushi, we tried their salmon nigiri. it was amazing. it tasted as fresh as any other sushi place i've been to (boston, dallas). the way they cut the salmon makes it amazing to eat--it is very long and thick and you get a whole mouthful of it. read more

My husband got me the Deluxe Sushi Combo takeout today and was surprised to see the nigiri assortment was all fish. The salmon was really good out of the nigiri. Spicy Tuna roll was well done too. The taste is good because the dish is definitely Nongshim Shin Ramyun Spicy Beef Ramen instant Noodle package $1.25 with added several pieces of beef and vegetable. This is a brave lie to the consumers. My Korean girlfriend also confirmed it she also had that instant noodle before from kitami. They should describe it as instant noodle on the menu. Sushi was excellent - surprisingly good quality fish for nigiri and sashimi, moderate portion sizes as well, tasty rolls. Appetizers were hit or miss - gyoza was great, karaage was mediocre. Service was very poor- we were there at peak on a Friday with a group of 6, and there seemed to be only two servers working. It took a half hour to get menus and an hour to appetizers. There's also an odd smell on first entry to the restaurant. Our group of six had an automatic 18% gratuity that we did not notice and were surprised by. read more

This is a difficult review to make, because I genuinely do enjoy going here and I want to give it a better review. My servers have been great, the food has been delicious, and the experience has been fun, but I cannot abide false advertising, even if it's not illegal in the way they're doing it. Not many places offer Wagyu, so obviously we had to try it all. Fun fact, there are no regulations that require restaurants to label their beef properly, which I learned when I started looking up why our last Yakiniku order looked so weird. Having recently been schooled by a beef expert and getting to see and try a variety of wagyu, I can tell you for certain they are not serving A5 grade Kobe beef ribeye and NY strip. They also claim the yukki is wagyu, but it was the leanest beef we received. At best, my "A5 Kobe" might've either been American wagyu or prime angus. Good, but not what we paid for. And our prime beef short ribs were sadly lean too. See cheap non-prime short ribs at the grocery store daily that are better marbled. Bottom line, if you demand what you pay for, it's not worth a visit, I hate feeling cheated. If all that matters is the other stuff, go for it. If they are willing to post/provide the proof of authenticity for the wagyu, I will be happy to remove this review. Otherwise at stays until they remove it until they correct their menu read more

I was excited to try this highly rated restaurant but unfortunately it was a bit disappointing. I called at 5:45pm to place take out order ( Wednesday) for 6:30pm. I ordered seaweed salad, yellowtail carpaccio, triple tuna roll and salmon roe. When I arrived (6:30pm) my order was not ready. The host showed my receipt and then proceeded to give my receipt to the sushi chef. Sushi chef told him they don't have seaweed salad so I opted out for gyoza. I waited total of 15min and host was running around to make sure everything was in order. He was super helpful. When I arrived to my hotel I didn't see any yellowtail carpaccio. Looked like maybe yellowtail scallion roll? Triple tuna roll was just okay, at the best 3 out of 5. Salmon roe was good (4.5 out of 5) and unknown roll was pretty good with nice fish. Disappointed to not get what I ordered and general in the taste. Will try somewhere else next time. read more
