Perhaps my favorite ramen place I've been to, and that includes Indy as well. This place has so many great appetizers and desserts to choose from, but the ramen is wonderful and I love to come here and get the rich tonkotsu with black garlic. First impressions, limited parking, but there is a parking garage nearby just not convenient. Room is small, but atmosphere is nice. Staff were not quick to greet, but were helpful with the menu. It's one of those places where they hand you a tablet and you must figure it out, but I asked for assistance and the waitress helped. Staff recommended the Takoyaki appetizer. I also ordered a spicy tonkotsu, Katsu with beef slices and udon noodles. The appetizer was not served first. Both dishes came out together. First bite of the takoyaki was surprising. So hot fresh out of the fryer. I burnt the roof on my mouth really bad. The flavor was excellent, but way too hot to serve without warning. I was not expecting that. Moved onto the Tonkotsu. First thing I tried was the beef slices. The first bite the flavor was off, and I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong with it. I looked at the other two slices of beef inside the soup and the color didn't look right so I laid them on my side dish out of the soup to try the broth. The broth was light, not too spicy, but not very full of body. It seemed very thin for a bone broth. Flavor 1/5. Not many other goodies in the bowl itself, a sprinkle of this and that, but nothing that stood out. I took a couple bites of the noodles and once again just felt let down at the quality. I chose this place because it had the highest ratings in the area and then when I go to do a review on the G website, reviews were blocked due to unusually high traffic of five star reviews which now tells me too little too late that this place recently got a bot injection of some sort, and the product did not live up to the expectations of the reviews. I've traveled all over trying places like this and I don't think I've ever been this disappointed. The server handed me a bill looking at my uneaten bowl of food and beef flopped on the side dish asked if I would like to take it to go. I simply said no thank you and handed over my wallet. Cute lil place. Love the decor. Cashier was very nice. Offered us free water and a seat while we waited for our carry out. Spicy Tonkotsu was sooooo goood. I'm gonna have to get extra egg next time, it was perfectly cooked. They put the broth in one container and all the toppings in another. Kept anything from spilling which was great. The broth was piping hot so all I had to do was pour it in the other bowl and wait a few minutes. Way better than Yatagarasu read more

Pretty good ramen at a very reasonable price at next to the hotel I was staying while in town. Upon arrival, the staff gave me an iPad to place an order and food came very fast. I do not think they have a liquor license here as I didn't see any alcohol on the menu however they have all kinds of fun Japanese soft drinks including ramune. My favorite childhood drinks. ;) Yuzu shio ramen's north was so comforting. I really like the citrus yuzu. I was so tempted to try their tonkotsu. Came here on a late Tuesday night as a last-ditch effort for sustenance. Happy to report that it was in every bit successful and fulfilling. Apologies for the poor photos, we were too busy devouring our food and forgot to take adequate photos. For what the pictures do not rely, the taste does. We had the rich tonkotsu ramen, gyoza, and the black truffle ramen. Everything was so flavorful and delicious. I would absolutely get the rich tonkotsu broth and the gyoza again; the black truffle was worth a try but I liked the tonkotsu better. On a cold Sunday in West Lafayette, what better place to warm up than having ramen! I first heard this place on my Facebook feed since my son goes to school there. It is located in a strip mall with parking available. The decor is quaint with table and bar seating. We ordered 2 ramen dishes, a donburi bowl and an appetizer. They were all very good but my hubby loved his Unagi Don! Portion sizes were good. We were so full we didn't have room for dessert (we would have ordered the Nama Chocolate which sounded like little lava cakes) so we will have to make a return visit. Expensive for soup, not near the quality of Yatagarasu but offering far more flavors and variety. My buddy and I went all over the menu with apps, two bowls, and dessert. Our starters were satisfying and well made, ways to eat Japanese chicken nuggets and very good gyoza. Our bowls turned up very hot, after cooling we noticed a lot broader spice profile to the sauces than Yatagarasu, the other and only real competition around. Garasu has the better ingredients and meats, denser and richer textures. This place boasts the creative and fun options which seeing the specialty black truffle ramen would be the thing to bring me back. There's no beer on tap but atmosphere is fun and parking right on site. The staff was accommodating and polite and with the place quiet to ourself for most the dinner didn't feel rushed. I'm not sure about authenticity or how others like Strings compare. I do know to avoid that one and can happily slot Genki into forth after Yatagarasu, Noodles & I, and Rice and Noodle Thai. read more

I came here yesterday after getting a second job at the local GameStop on the same strip and discussing my new hours, and afterward I was a little bit hungry. Since I had time till the next bus came, I decided to give this place a try as a little reward to myself. Once I came in, it felt so cozy and comfy, with warm colored lanterns and beautiful dark woodwork on the tables and ramen bar. You know it's going to be a good ramen shop when it makes you feel like your being hugged by a warm blanket on a cold day. While I wasn't in a ramen mood, luckily they had another favorite of mine, doburi, so I ordered a kaarage donburi and a small seaweed salad. The server was really nice and brought out my food quickly, along with some ice water. The rice was perfectly prepared and seasoned, and mixing the kaarage with kewpie mayonnaise was a great touch. It might be a bit different for those who eat usual fried chicken, as kaarage and fried chicken are actually very different mainly in texture and preparation, but it's always fun to try new things! I highly recommend trying it, it's really great! Overall, I highly recommend coming here for a good meal and a cozy feel on those colder days! read more
