I came here to enjoy a nice dinner with one of my cousins and, one of our friends. Pad Kee Mao has to be one of my main go-to dishes, each time I dine in a Thai restaurant I try to order the famous Pad Kee Mao, or the way English speakers like to call it the drunken noodle Most of the time, if I can, I try to order the beef and extra chicken version. This time was no exception. The flavors were unique, the noodles were exceptional, the meat was tender, the level of spice was good, and the portion was pretty big. The amount of the protein was generous and the extra protein gave it an extra touch, We shared the shrimp dumplings, the texture , and the flavor was marvelous. Great to have found a delicious Thai option near the train station, without having to trek all the way to Elmhurst! Ate here today by myself after work as a paraprofessional at P.S. 12 Q. I had ordered and ate the crab rangoons and Thai fried rice that it had tasted really good and delicious. In the area between Sunnyside and Flushing I've tried probably a dozen Thai restaurants. This was my first time at Kitchen 79, took the family. Decor is very clean and modern looking. It has large booths but also the smaller date tables, so good for families and couples. We went with calamari and a fried fish cake, both of which were good, not great but it's fried food at a Thai restaurant. If it was an American restaurant I would call it great, but for Thai I have higher expectations. Now we got the hotpot size of Tom Yum, and boy was it Yum-my! Probably my favorite Tom yum I've had in the past decade. (There's a restaurant in Pittsburgh that's really good). The flat noodle dish was amazing and the green curry was also very good. Sometimes, the best restaurants aren't so easily seen. Had to use GPS to locate this spot but that would be the only mere grievance I have of this place for the rest of the experience was pleasant and lovely. For starters, the waitresses are very accommodating, so much so to the point that I'd only have to make a slight gesture to get their attention and they have been very helpful for their service. If I could give more than 5 stars I certainly would for their effort. The place inside is very cozy and slightly lit, giving an intimate feel. It really gives a date night type of feel, if only I had a woman to take with me to this place but I digress. The food was absolutely marvelous. I had fried chicken (Thai Style), a salad with the best thousand island dressing I've had on it, sticky rice which was definitely true to its name along with some sweet heat sauce which gives the rice a Supreme kick in flavor. We ordered the chicken satay, Panang curry, & pad basil with crispy pork. Panang curry was delicious, they add green beans which was tasty. I am Thai-American so I have the luxury of eating Thai food everyday at home and I've been to Thailand several times. I am grateful for this because I LOVE Thai food but this also makes me skeptical of eating Thai food in restaurants because I know how Thai food is supposed to taste like. And also I don't feel the need to eat out at Thai restaurants because why spend money on Thai food when I can just eat it at home? Anyway, at the beginning of 2024, I hung out with friends and we ate at a Thai restaurant in Manhattan and I was extremely disappointed. The dishes were too sweet and didn't taste like authentic Thai food. It gave me the impression that possibly Thai restaurants in Manhattan are trying to appeal to the taste buds and palate of Americans which makes me so sad because I would rather have foreigners know Thai food for how it actually tastes, not the dumbed-down Americanized version. Several months have past and me and my family were in the Jackson Heights area trying to find a place to eat at. I decided on Kitchen 79 since it has pretty good reviews and I wanted to give Thai food in NYC another chance. I'm so happy to say that this place gave me hope for the Thai food scene in NYC. The flavors were on point; there was a mix of salty, sweet, sour, spicy, bitter, just overall savory which is how Thai food is supposed to be. I was ecstatic that nothing on the menu tasted extremely sweet and also, the dishes tasted authentic! Although the food wasn't as savory as I preferred and wasn't 100% authentic like at home or back in Thailand, I will say that Kitchen 79 is a good introduction to someone who has never had Thai food before. In fact, if I were to recommend someone a Thai restaurant, I would tell them to go to Queens, don't go to Manhattan. Queens has way more authentic and affordable Thai restaurants, Manhattan is clearly for tourists. The server at Kitchen 79 was also so nice and accommodating, I would definitely return to this place in the future! We ordered their fried fish, mango salad, pineapple fried rice with shrimp, curry puffs, spring rolls, thai iced tea, crab rangoon, and tod mun goong (fried shrimp cakes), and everything was absolutely delicious. I was very satisfied with the food and service here. Lastly, their Thai iced tea was to die for!!! I felt like I was in heaven after my first sip LMAO. Went to Jackson Heights and tried out Kitchen 79! The staff was super friendly and patient. I went on a Saturday night around 7PM and there was lots of seating. I ordered the curry puffs which was a 5/10. They were a little cold. I also ordered the Pad Kee Mao with Shrimp (medium spice level). I should have gotten it spicier because the spice was not too hot. The food was made fresh and I enjoyed that the peppers were sliced more thin. It costs around $18 with the shrimp. It was a 7/10. One of the best Thai restaurants I've been to in America. I'm from Malaysia and have visited Thailand more times than I can count and have always been disappointed by American Thai restaurants. But not at Kitchen 79. The pad see ew is possibly the best I've had in the US. It was saucy without being too wet, the flavors were just right, not too salty or bland. The other dishes were spectacular but the pad see ew really took the prize (and I only tried one bite of my friend's plate!) The service was excellent and the waiters were joking with us throughout the evening. They were very attentive and since the entire staff was Thai, I really could feel the authenticity through the food! The ambiance was nice and relaxing, not too crowded or loud. There was even a nice wall for guests to take photos next to. I can't wait till the next time I'm in the Jackson Heights area because this restaurant was incredible. This Thai spot has one of the best pad thai in the Jackson heights area. I have ordered from them several times and it's always delicious. The chicken pad thai has a lot of chicken and the noodles are always perfectly cooked and pair so well with the peanuts and other vegetables. What I especially like about this place is that their lunch menu comes with several options for your appetizers that are included in their lunch special. I have tried their fried tofu with a chili sauce which is absolutely delicious. Their thai iced coffee is also very good, it is sweet and energizing. I wanted to treat myself to a nice Thai restaurant and noticed that this place had nice review. I wanted real spicy and fishy Thai food and this place delivered! Food: 4/5 We started with the Po Pia Sod (thai summer roll) which was okay. They used raw scallions (aka: green onions) which was quite overpowering and masked the rest of the ingredients for me. Our entrees was Pla Neung Ma Nao (aka: Red Snapper with Sweet and Sour sauce) which comes with side of rice and Gauy Tiew Ped Toon (Duck Noodle Soup). I really enjoyed both entrees and they were great to share between too. The duck was a very savory and sweet dish and the fish was spicy and tart. Lastly, we have finished with a green tea ice cream (which had fruit loops at the bottem) since most of their other options like fried ice cream were unavailable. My go-to's are the Pad Thai and the Pineapple Fried Rice. Each dish has really great flavors. The lunch specials also come with an appetizer. We normally get a spring roll and a crab rangoon. I was craving some Thai food before work and this happened to be pretty close by. Immediately as I walk in, the atmosphere is very relaxed and comforting. The servers were super nice as well. I ordered off the lunch menu and I got the Curry Puff as my appetizer and a Chicken Guay Tiew Pad Sei Eiw as my main which came out to a total of only $10. Maybe it's because I'm used to Manhattan prices and how ridiculously high they are, but a fulfilling meal for only $10 is such a steal! The curry puff was both savory with a hint of sweet, which I believe is the perfect combination. It was surrounded by salad which actually tasted exactly the same way my mom makes salads, which was exactly what I needed. The Pad Sei Eiw was also very delicious and felt like something you'd eat at an Auntie's house. Kitchen 79 is near Little Thailand Way, the largest concentration of Thais in New York. That is a fairly small concentration. The Queens population of Thais is much smaller than say the Los Angeles population of Thais. It is way way smaller than the Queens population of Colombians. What this means is that while many ethnic restaurants in Queens serves a large customer base of their own co-nationals, Thai places tend to serve a generic population of Americans. So while a Colombian restaurant can be be uncompromisingly Colombian, Kitchen 79 sort of has to be half American Thai and half Thai Thai. American Thai food is outstanding food ... So as a Yelper, you can not do badly either way. You also have the option of ordering Northern Thai or Southern Thai. Atypically, for an American place, they offer both kinds of dishes. I ordered a Southern style curry with squid, in this case a Penang curry. The waiter saw that I was old and Anglo, and brought me a nice mild version. It was wonderful - and yes - Thai people do eat mild food sometimes. The squid was absolutely first rate. The Penang curry itself was comfort food, sweet and coconut-y. Coconut milk is your friend. An altogether pleasant place. It does not have the crackling fire of a lot of other Queens places. There are a lot of Queens restaurants where immigrant families bring Their grandmothers, Their children and All of their friends. The TV there has the soccer game that everyone wants to watch. Kitchen 79 is simply amazing! The staff are very friendly, welcoming and highly professional. The restaurant's ambiance is warm and inviting with beautifully decorated walls with gorgeous Thai decor. I especially love the bar area that has a wide variety of drinks. I recommend the plum wine. It's exquisite! It's very sweet and I love the presentation with the type of wine glasses that the restaurant uses. I can recommend the whole fried fish that looks so fresh like they just took it out of the ocean right before they brought it to the table! They have just about every authentic Thai dish you can think of from the fried pineapple rice to the Vegan Pad Thai, you'll want to try it all. Best of all the prices are very affordable. It's an excellent spot to bring small groups from a family outing or to impress your business partners and co-workers. Great Thai that is conveniently located near the 7 train. Highly recommend Crying Tiger (beef) and Moo Yang (pork). Both are very tender and flavorful. The Pad Thai is a little on the sweet side and the portion size is large. The space is nice - a black and white theme and doesn't look like a Thai restaurant. This was my first time visiting Kitchen 79. It is a very nice and cozy restaurant. Our server was very friendly, and took our order within a few minutes after being sat down. I enjoyed the Crab Rangoons with Squid Pad Thai and Thai Ice Green Tea. The Crab Rangoons were crispy and covered in a red sweet and chilly sauce filled with delicious crab meat and cream cheese. This was my first time trying The Squid Pad Thai, served with Fried rice noodle with Squid, tamarind, bean sprouts, egg, scallion, and peanut. And the Thai Ice Green Tea was a perfect mixture of a sweet and bitter beverage. I will definitely come back to Kitchen 79 whenever I am in the mood for Thai cuisine.
