I met a friend here for brunch and ate outdoors this past weekend while we were blessed with some late Fall summery weather. We both had the latke, onion and eggs (I recommend over easy as the latke nicely soaked up the eggs) and it was delish! The Kitchen has one of the nicest outdoor dining spots which is why I stopped here. I started with the oysters, which were amazing! They were so fresh & the Mignonette sauce was on point as well as the horseradish. For my main, I had the scallop risotto special which missed the mark In my opinion. Only 2 scallops - which didn't taste super fresh and the risotto lacked depth. At $29 I was a bit disappointed. The service was fantastic so I'll probably be back to try some other dishes. read more

We really wanted to like this place. REALLY!! It looks very nice on the outside and the menu looked good as well. My husband and I have been trying new places around our neighborhood in an effort to support our local businesses so it has been all about exploring lately. It was super cold so we decided to dine indoors. Their dining room is very beautiful, the bar in the back gives it a nice touch. We started with some drinks, my mulled wine smelled great but the taste of spices didn't really come through. We ordered a cheese board and latke as starters. The latke was fresh, crunchy, the caramelized onions gave it a nice touch and the applesauce on the side was delicious. What is with that weird salad? It tasted like it was sitting in the fridge, weird. The cheese board... to begin with, the waitress didn't go over what was in it with us. Ok, we are cheese aficionados so not really a problem. We could tell that one of them was some brie-like cheese. What is with the sticks? They were clearly pre cut and not stored correctly in the fridge as the cheese was dry and almost tasteless. The crackers were also kind of cheap and square, so the stick cut made zero sense. I did enjoy the strawberry jam that came along though. Moving on to the main courses, my steak was cooked correctly but lacked salt, sweet potato fries were awesome. My husband got the (huge) lamb shank which comes with tomato sauce - was it homemade sauce? Probably not, but I think it tasted good. Mashed potatoes were ok and kind of tasted like airplane food. Anyway, our waitress was super nice. The service was a bit slow in the beginning but then things picked up. Food and drinks are incredible. Everything lamb related is delicious and doesn't taste like your typical lamb. This is more of a Greek-American place, anything related to Greek food is probably going to be good based on what I got. Drink was delicious too. Very friendly and fast service, checked all the boxes and I felt welcomed quickly. Ambiance is like a mismatch of furniture that feels like someone's house but a modern restaurant mixed together, which for Greek style is pretty fitting and relaxing. The staff was very welcoming, which made me look at the menu and dine in! The ambiance is very sleek with a tab of funk and very comfortable. I ordered the burger, it was very filling, my medium well was cooked to perfection . One of the juiciest burgers I've had in a long time!! I ordered the key lime pie, one of my favorites. However, the pie tasted like there was an ounce of sugar in each bite. The pie was too sweet overbearing the best flavors that make up the pie. My boyfriend had the blush rose and I had to have the cucumber basil drink with the premier 57, Very strong drinks but very good. I had the branzino which was cooked to perfection and very fresh. My boyfriend had a chicken cutlet which was also delicious especially the pesto sauce on top. The potato dumplings were phenomenal! A 100% must. "Kitchen at Cobble Hill" was on my list of places to try and I finally made it a few nights ago. My hubby and I stopped here for a quick bite to eat. We sat at the bar and ordered soup. He had the "Kale broccoli puree" with a side order of Brussel sprouts and I had the soup of the day "Fisherman's salmon soup" Both soups were tasteless and bland. We didn't really enjoy our soups and were a bit hesitate to order anything else because we didn't want to end up with a tasteless dish. The bartender/server was really nice and attentive. He made me a drink with gin that was okay but kind of strong. The ambience is relaxed and kind of quiet. I may try them again since we only had soup and it's a perfect location to stop for a bite to eat when in the area. read more

So 1/2 a star, and the other 1/2 star is for their nice outdoor dining setup. So quick rundown of the items: - Drinks: Eh. Not awful. Not great. But definitely not worth the $16/drink price tag. - App (Octopus): Overcooked. Not to the point of it being inedible, but like the drinks, not worth the price tag. - Entree (Burger): Ordered medium-rare and came well-done. Menu says that it comes with bacon... and no bacon. Onion in burger had that papery skin that's stringy and unpleasant to bite into. Unseasoned, bland, needs salt. All-around disappointing. Fries were good though! - Entree (Scallops + Risotto): One of the three scallops was great! The other two were in various stages of undercooked (one near-raw). Risotto not creamy. Undercooked. Not worth $29. Service was not great. Started off strong with the waters and drinks, but once the entrees were down, our server was nowhere to be found, which was mystifying given that we were the only customers in the outdoor area. Asked for some condiments when we received the entrees, but... nope. Nada. Overall, just a really bad experience. I don't mind the price, but my expectation is that the quality should match that. I just had the most amazing mushroom risotto and I am giving the new spring menu a 10 out of 10. I also had the most amazing cocktail of my life (It was the second or third one down on the list) so I am compelled to write a review which I seldom do. If i could give this place a million stars I would! I was looking for a place to host my engagement party for my fiancé's and I's family of 35 people. My sister in law showed me the place and menu and I fell in love. I contacted Olga (the owner) and not only did she respond immediately but was the sweetest most accommodating person ever. We were able to meet later that week, customize a whole menu, talk about decorations and set up, and she even printed customized menu cards for my party! To say the food was ahh-mazing is an understatement! Whoever she has in the back cooking the food, is cooking it with love and devotion because not a single guest at the party had anything negative to say about it. We were all stuffing our faces and wanted to take the leftover home! If you are looking to host a party or cater for a party please think about using Olga and their services. Celebrated my Valentine's dinner at the Kitchen. A quaint little restaurant in Cobble Hill that serves modern European cuisine. We ordered from the pre-fix menu, which had limited options, but was delicious. As expected, Valentine's night was pretty busy, but we were seated right away and received outstanding customer service. Our cocktails took about thirty minutes to come out, but we were given an additional complimentary appetizer along with complimentary champagne. The food itself was flavorful and tasty! Really liked this little place. We came in for a late lunch before going to a movie nearby. My bf and I both got iced coffee. It was soooooooo good. I love the way it was served. He had a burger and i had the chicken sandwich. Chicken sandwiches are hard to do well, they tend to be dry and flavorless. This one was delicious. I communicated with Olga via email - she was super helpful, responsive and willing to work with me based on the type of menu I was looking for. Olga was such a pleasure to work with - she even offered to stop and grab flowers on the way over the day of the party to help set up (!!). I was able to leave her and one of her team members in the room for the party while i went to do other things, and knew that when I came back everything would be perfect. Presentation was great, amazing amazing service and even better food. 10/10 would use them again for another party. Price points were great and the food was delicious. It was a hit... This was my first time dining at Karloff. My boyfriend and I ended up going here on Christmas Day. Yes they were open! The menu looked super appealing for a cold day so we walked right in. The staff was super friendly. Even though the place was packed, we got seated right away. I ordered the Russian Cola along with the famous Potato Latkes and borscht. My boyfriend ordered the latkes with eggs and a side of bacon along with the pork dumplings. Everything was Divine! The Latkes came along with the traditional sour cream and this amazing homemade apple sauce. I could eat the apple sauce on its own! We ended our lunch with sharing the Cheese Blintz. Delish! The problem is, the plate was huge, the food was so unbelievably small. I uploaded a picture of it. It was literally one pickle, sliced as thinly as possible to take up more room on a bed of lettuce for $7 or $9, can't remember. It's something I cannot stand behind. Don't order it. The ice cream is one scoop in a small coffee mug. It's almost a joke, honestly. Nothing was served family style. it was a clean, well presented meal. All the dishes were tasty, well thought out and arranged in an attractive fashion, but you really need to order 2 main courses per person. Not sure how long this has been Kitchen but this is no longer Karloff and it's been redecorated. What remains though is a similar menu and WiFi access that contains its name (and that's the only clue you'll get). The stroganoff was a little bland and dry but the meat was tender. Not sure if it was the absence of sour cream, mushrooms, noodles or what but something seemed to be lacking. They were out of the beef and pork dumplings for my chicken soup so I agreed to substitute the cabbage dumplings which were actually a good choice and complemented the excellent soup. I am not a big fan of white meat chicken as it tends to be drier than dark meat but it was not the case in this perfectly balanced classic. One thing that I have to note is that I expected an eastern European dumpling meaning some kind of dropped leavened flour/bread ball in the soup but there were dumplings like the Chinese kind with a filling. Wonder why it wasn't described on the menu as pelmeni or kreplach which would have been more accurate given the Russian/eastern European theme to the menu. Think Cobble Hill can handle Russian and Yiddish terminology. The deviled eggs were good and satisfying. Hard to have fresh eggs handy for an appetizer that tastes like they were just boiled but these were. The filling was creamy and appealing. Our dessert was Steve's key lime pie, a good Brooklyn standby. The dollop of whipped cream was how I like it, unsweetened and plentiful. I would be curious to try their chocolate tart or honey layer cake next time though. The service was good and not horrendous as reviewed by others but this was a slow Tuesday night and not a Sunday brunch. I was not disappointed at all with the service which was attentive and engaging. For a local restaurant it is adequate and certainly can satisfy different cravings with other choices like a $22 steak frites, salmon and roast chicken. I would be willing to come back or order delivery on another night when I am too tired to cook. read more

Great spot in Brooklyn for brunch and hosting a party. I cohosted a Saturday brunch party for about 30 guests at the restaurant and the service and food were amazing. Venue (5/5): simple, beautiful, and elegantly designed. Tables along the walls and high top tables in the middle as dividers, with an open bar in the back. With the wide doors opened and two ceiling fans breezing through the restaurant, it reminded me of sitting on top of a cliff restaurant in the Greek isles. Our party took half of the restaurant and was comfortably able to seat our 30 guests. The decor of the restaurant worked perfectly with our decorations. Food (5/5): 12 course brunch! For a brunch party, the owner, Olga, was very accommodating with our food selection. We selected 12 items from their party menu and all were delicious (we had 6 elderly, traditional Chinese ladies, and they all loved the food)!! The French toast was hands down the best I've had. It tasted like the bread was soaked in the cinnamon, milk, and egg bath for hours! The meat dumplings were so good when we tried out the food, we ended up doubling the order! Must try!! Eggs Benedict (guests were asking for seconds!) crispy Brussels sprouts, cheese blintzes were all perfectly made. If you like a little citrusy, the kale salad with avocado, Brussels sprouts and lemon dressing was a winner! Service (5/5): service was amazing!! We couldn't have asked for more. There was a huge sign that said this has the best ice cream in Brooklyn. So of course I gave it a shot. Our party of five each sampled different flavors-I tried a couple of interesting flavors but I thought they were just ok (such as the peanut butter fudge). We shared a pint of strawberry and killer chocolate-it was about 4-5 scoops worth. I will say that the customer service was great-the guy gave us tons of suggestions on what to check out next (in Brooklyn), he encouraged us to try the Russian food next time, and was just overall really friendly. read more

I was in the neighborhood yesterday, so popped in for a bite with my boyfriend. The interior is cute. I have to say, the service wasn't that great. There was something floating in my boyfriend's water, so we had to request a new water glass, my cocktail came to the table well after the starter plate was served/after my boyfriend got his beer, and we mostly had to flag our waiter down versus him stopping by to check in on the table. With that said, the waiter was totally pleasant and nice. The food: we started with the beef dumplings. This was the best thing we ate- I could have eaten another plate of them. They are almost like miniature perogies in a delicious light green sauce. For our entrees, I got the BLT and my boyfriend got the smoked salmon sandwich. The BLT wasn't bad, but the bread completely overwhelmed the sandwich. A delicious sliced bread would have been so much better. As for the smoked salmon sandwich, my boyfriend said it was more of an arugula sandwich with one very thinly sliced piece of smoked salmon. What the waiter doesn't tell us tho is its $3/glass, we found out with the bill. Now on to the food. Started with the soup of the day (roasted red pepper and cauliflower vegan purée). Texture was nice, lots of red pepper flavor. Latkes were pretty delicious, I'd describe them like thin cut hash browns loosely shaped into pancakes. They were crispy and went well with caramelized onions and thick sour cream. Watermelon salad was small cubes with too much feta and a good amount of arugula. Mint flavor and dressing were good, just didn't impress me and wasn't as refreshing as I imagined. Beef stew was comforting like Babushka would do. It included 2 beef meatballs - that were dry, I opted for the pasta alfredo - that was salty, and salad with lemon olive oil dressing - which was ok. Karloff is one of those places that you always pass by, but never notice. I've actually had it on my to-do list for years but couldn't even picture what it looked like. Luckily, I was able to finally make my way here for dinner on a Saturday night. It wasn't full, but it was still lively inside. A lot of the other patrons were definitely Russian or Eastern European, which is a good sign. For a starter, I shared the vareniki platter, which was a sample of all three types - cabbage, beef/pork, and potato. It's a little up there at $24, but you get a ton. If every person gets an entree, it could easily be an appetizer for 3-4. If I had to complain about something, it's that they were all on the same plate jumbled together and not organized, so it was a surprise figuring out what was what. I had like 4 cabbage ones and just 1 meat dumpling. Oh well, they were good anyway. For a main, I had the lake trout, which came over cauliflower and kasha risotto. The cauliflower was delicious. Never had kasha before, but it looked like quinoa, and tasted like quinoa with less flavor. But the fish was seared nicely. They also have some interesting cocktails, mostly made with vodka (duh). I went with the Fall Fashioned,m which was a rye cocktail with pears and walnut syrup. It was entirely too sweet, but it was pretty strong. They also have one of my favorite beers from my teenage years, Baltika #9. read more

Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else but here. The mussels and shrimp spaghetti (seafood pasta) was actually inedible - and I can eat just about anything. The sauce was grainy and while it said white wine cream sauce, it tasted like poorly made Alfredo. To suggest the sauce was store-bought would actually be a compliment, and frankly I would have preferred that to whatever "home-cooked" sauce this was trying to be. But the mussels were the worst of all. Licking the bottom of the ocean floor would have tasted the same, if not better. And definitely just as grainy. Now onto my boyfriend's spaghetti bolognese, which actually did taste store-bought - so at least it was edible. But for $20 you're better off just picking up a jar of Prego, some dried pasta and frozen beef. Voila. Same dish for a fraction of the cost. The wine was nice. Probably because wasn't made in-house. I told the female server about the pasta - the mussels specifically, as I'm pretty sure they'd gone bad - and she (I think) said she'd let the kitchen know. Never heard from her again. Let me just clarify, my reviews are never this "scathing". But then again, I've never had a meal this bad. read more

The eggs Benedict with chicken sausage was perfectly cooked and the spinach underneath was a nice touch. The waitstaff was very attentive - and very kid friendly. The waiters were smiling at my 8 month old, whereas other waiters at other restaurants have looked down upon families with babies. My husband got the cheeseburger, and it was very good as well. It was a tiny bit greasy and had to be eaten with a knife and fork- but the taste was quite good. The French fries and the mustard dipping sauce did not disappoint. Will return for dinner read more

My friend said that Kitchen at cobble hill had a new menu with a new chef cooking in the kitchen so we should try it as she supports big time neighborhood places. My buddy had the prime steak with fries and didn't leave a morsel for me to try - at 32 dollars he said it was a steal. my friend who brought me had salmon poke and three more small plates for sharing and everything was delicious - thier cocktail list is pretty special but I;m a vodka drinker and loved my vodka tonic with Duck pasta. I asked them to show me their Brunch menu and noticed they have shakshouka so I'll be back for brunch.. We sat outside and closed the place down. We came into the restaurant at around 2:30 on a Saturday. We got seated very quickly as there was no wait. Ordered the food shortly after and waited. We ordered the smoked whitefish sandwich and eggs Benedict with chicken sausage. Boy we waited. We waited and waited patiently. The server seemed to avoid us (server was extremely pleasant and nice when we interacted) and told us 45 minutes into waiting that the food was on the way after we glanced at the food window every 5 minutes or so. The food finally came after at least an hour of waiting. Whitefish sandwich was mediocre. Think tuna salad on rye. Salad was okay (arugula and onions). Eggs Benedict was mediocre. The hollandaise was mayo with yellow color. The chicken sausage was a chicken patty which tasted bland. The fries were good, but its fried potatoes. The servers were not rude at all. But the wait was abysmal and food was not up to par to what we expected when paying ($12-$14 a plate). Sorry, but I won't be back. read more
