First timer . Loved this experience . We went to the parking lot .. the sign in process was a bit long .. had to fill up multiple forms and waivers . Wish they did these online , instead of holding up onsite . Lots of parking available. After signing in, we went in a school bus , for about 20-25 mins on the other side of the river .. After going to starting point we were given good instructions and then we got our canoes. Perfect for a family . It takes 4-5 hours to row back to the base . Take it easy , relax and have a good time. If u try to hurry up to finish line, u will be tired and will probably lose interest After an hour . If u go with friends , wait for them , and go together. . Take lunch , food , water with u. U can park and have food . Only thing to take care is rocks . We were stuck almost for 20-25 mins in shallow rocks , till we pushed ourselves out . Was kinda energy consuming . If u have gone multiple times , u would know.. Overall had a great time .. thumbs up ..

The grounds are very clean and the staff is very nice and accommodating. There is a lot of highway noise unless you are down on the water. There is no staff onsite after the main store closes. This was disappointing since there was nobody there to enforce the noise curfew or the amount of people and cars that show up for one camping site. At least I know that the "strict rules" they list on their site are only a suggestion. I would go back again, but only if my camping party was a rowdy bunch. I could not see this place being too kid friendly when it was busy during the summer months.

Kittatinny offers daily trips for experienced and novice paddlers. Raft, canoe, kayak, tube; calmwater and whitewater - there's something for everyone. Paddle through breathtaking scenery filled with abundant wildlife. You may see bald eagles, hawks, herons, ducks, deer, and even the occasional black bear! Bring a picnic lunch, stop, relax, swim, the day and the river are yours! Two and a half hours from Long Island, one will enjoy a 3-5 hour ride down the Delaware River. Conditions vary depending on the day/time/ and season. Side Note: look out for snakes in the water if you're swimming. Had I not been warned quick enough, I was two seconds away from getting bit by a Copperhead Rattlesnake. Never have I ever jumped higher in my life. Luckily I made it into the boat in time. Swim at your own risk and watch out for those slippery rocks down below. They're are doozy.

This is my third time here and I'm afraid it's my last this place really doesn't care about there guest Forget about trying to sleep 3am and the music and yelling just won't stop and there is no one walking around to make sure rules are followed On top of that this place is not cheap So consider this a warning

To sum up what I can fill a novel with. Simply put do not stay at this campground. Rude, understaffed, lazy, expensive, disgusting. The list goes on. To start things off when we arrived we arrived early it was a friends error we arrived at approximately noon time and they told us check in cannot happen until two 3 PM we were told the reason being was that they were cleaning campsites we sat around in the main parking lot for some time until we drove over to our campsite and decided to set up after arguing back-and-forth for over an hour we did not see a single cleanup crew the entire time and as we are setting up with some other part a bunch of garbage and even one of our younger campers stepping in a dead bird scarring him for a bit of the first day All night long be ready for the highway to have tractor trailers coming and going. Both sets of bathrooms from Friday to Sunday morning were not cleaned once. When I brought it up to the manager I couldn't believe what I heard lord this is the truth "what do you want us to do, if we were to clean them they would simply look like that again in a few hours" baffled I stood there looking at here waiting for her to take back the ridiculous statement she just said but to no avail she held strong. Argued for a refund on my 150$ a night stay or at least one of the two nights. To no avail. Even after all the wood bundles we purchased for 9$ a pop being told we couldn't bring wood when Almost anyone else of the several hundred campers brought wood. We bought the 2 he trip on the river w rafts included. The current was fast and is got done in 23 minutes exactly. When bringing this up for a partial refund or maybe to tag along on the next bud we were told no. "We can't control the flow of the river" well maybe don't charge 35$ and promise an amount of time or idk, maybe drive further up the river if the current is fast. Quick cash grab of a campground. Campsites should be no more than 50$ and that's even pushing it(see any county/state/national parks and they are pennies compared to private(obvious reasons but still 150$ is highway robbery for bathrooms you can't even use Will absolutely never stay here again

Wow so many 1 star reviews... tried them out for the 1st time in July with NO experience whatsoever. Loved it so much, decided to do another take in August before the summer ended. Not to mention we were coming from the JFK area in Queens,NY. It was such a breath of fresh air to escape the congestion in the city. Felt like the rules were explained thoroughly on which side of the river to navigate towards, it's just a matter of common sense really. Loved the fact that we were in control of the entire trip down the river. There's a few shady spots to pull over for lunch or enjoy a swim. Other rafters & the people that live along the banks were so friendly waving at us. It was such a great experience. Overall we loved it!

According to the radar and weather it was supposed to rain but it only drizzled which was doable. We parked at Matamoras so we ended there. The bus took us to our starting point. It was the perfect amount of time for us. We had a great time as we listened to music, chatted and had snacks and lunch. Next time, we want to go white water rafting somewhere! I think it's important to note for this story that we are both normal, healthy BMI, 30s women who work out regularly. We are not overweight or very inexperienced and we were not drunk when this happened. When they launched us into the river on the NY side and told us we'd have to make it to the PA side to get picked up, I knew it wasn't going to be a relaxing trip. Most river companies drop you off and pick you up on the same side because it can be very hard (or impossible) to cross the river in a tube without a paddle. For 2 hours, we truly struggled to get to the correct side of the river. The current was strong and not only could we not make it to the PA side, the current was constantly pushing us into trees and rocks on the riverbank on the NY side. We got out on the riverbank and relaunched twice. We got out of the tubes completely and swam twice. We stayed in the tubes and kicked as hard as we could (probably spent a full hour kicking). The best we ever did was get to the middle of the river. It was exhausting and we had maybe 20 minutes total of actual relaxation. When the trip was almost over, we knew we weren't going to make it over. My friend luckily had cell reception and called the company to ask what we should do, while I got out of the tube one last time and kicked as hard as I possibly could. As we passed the Indian Head pickup point, the worker on the riverbank saw us passing by and got in a kayak to come tow us back. As he got within shouting distance, he started yelling at us that we had do "do something!!! You can't just lay there!" despite me being in the water kicking. He continued to yell at us as he approached, asking why we didn't get on the correct side of the river. His anger surprised me and was completely unhelpful and rude. He towed us to shore and by that point we were maybe half a mile down from the pickup point so he asked us to carry his kayak paddle back for him, which we did, and he ran off. We claimed up through the bushes and started walking down the road, carrying our tubes and the paddle. The school bus spotted us about a quarter mile away and took us back to the dropoff point, where I went inside to check in our tubes. Immediately, the manager started asking me questions. "Why do you have a kayak paddle? Didnt they tell you to get on the right side of the river? Why didn't you do it? Why didn't you get out and swim?" At no point did he or anyone even ask if we were OK. This was a completely terrible experience. I'm mostly just really surprised that they were such absolute a-holes about the situation. There are a lot better companies than this one. AVOID.

Head to the website, book the date & time you want and you're done. www.watergapadventure.com/river-trips A few things worth noting: They offer multiple trip lengths. The standard 4-, 6- and 10-mile trip (Smithfield to Portland) are all booked generically and then when you get there you tell them what you want to do. All pricing is the same which believe me compared to others companies, that's very different - in a good way. They do offer two other longer trips but those require calls to the main office I assume to assess river conditions; your own competency and shuttle availability. The main office in Delaware Water Gap is very easy to find and there was plenty of parking on a quiet post-Labor Day Monday. You check in, you're handed a laminated map, life jacket and given a brief route explanation and then you're off in the van. One problem arose and it was kind of a PIA but it was worked around. Most companies have different types/sizes/models of kayaks and quite often, will ask you what you prefer. Not here. When we left the office, the guy driving didn't say a word to me until we get to Smithfield Beach to unload. He had a few kayaks pre-loaded in the carrier but definitely did not look at them before we left. One of them had a broken foot pedal that he said couldn't be used, another was very much designed for a smaller individual (i.e. if you're taller and/or taller & larger it ain't happening safely) which only left two tandem models. Using a tandem as a single individual is not the end of the world but especially when the seats are still left in the two person configuration (i.e. one front and one back versus the rear one being placed more towards the middle), it's a PIA to maneuver the craft and you are paddling harder to get the job done compared to a single. The scenery along the route was decent. You could see a bit of the Shawnee Resort and Golf Course, an old stone bridge abutment in the middle of the river, under and along 80 and then when you get into the Water Gap itself with the high cliff sides. Very picturesque. Once you go under the old train viaduct in Portland, you give the office a call for the shuttle to meet you at the out point which is at the Portland Pedestrian Bridge. The whole experience was about four hours door to door to cover the ten miles on the water plus the shuttle to & from the pick up and drop off points. Lots of nice scenery, due to the low water level there wasn't much in the way of current except for the area around viaduqt in Portland and even that wasn't bad. I'm not a big fan of the equipment here but I wouldn't let that deter me from coming back in the future for one of their northern longer trips.

Unfortunately, our recent trip with a group of six was extremely frustrating due to the organization and scheduling. Our original time slot was changed because there were not enough groups, which we understood. However, our new 10:20 time slot was expanded to accommodate additional groups, and we were then required to wait an extended period for a very large group that arrived late. As a result, we did not begin rafting until after 12:15, and the safety review had to be rushed because of the delay. Throughout the trip, our group was repeatedly forced to stop and wait for the late group, who frequently fell out of their raft and struggled to follow the safety instructions. I estimate we spent close to an hour collectively waiting along the river. Even the group scheduled after ours eventually passed us, and we did not return to the bus until shortly after 5:00. I want to emphasize that Olivia, Bailey, Kristen, and Sid were excellent guides and did their best under difficult circumstances. My frustration is entirely with the organization and scheduling of the trip. Additionally, while this was outside of anyone's control, we paid for Class II and III rapids, but the river flow that day was approximately 820 CFS, making the experience much closer to Class I and II. I hope you will take this feedback seriously, as this experience was significantly different from the positive experiences that led me to book with White Water Challengers again.

The fishing is pretty good as well, visited here to fish many times as a kid. It has a nice visitor center with picnic tables and rest rooms. New Jersey gets a bad rap. Most critics don't know about the better parts of the state such as this one.
