Went to go on a tour of KCS because we were headed on a three week vacation and thought our little cat Kona should be boarded because he was causing trouble for out older cat. Met with Nancy and thought it was a awesome place, and all the reviews were great, but than we decided a different route, only to end up having to put our older cat down suddenly and so we didn't want Kona all of a sudden to be all by himself for three weeks ( even though we had people coming in to take care of him) I scheduled KCS did all the paperwork via email and a week later we were settling Kona in. They send a email with everything to bring and Sarah really goes over everything so well, I really appreciated it. So we settled Kona in and got Kitty mail that night from him and he was doing great. We got so much kitty mail that at one point they asked if we were getting sick of it, LOL! While Kona was there he celebrated him Birthday and so we sent him a video which they played for him and video him watching it, super cute! We popped in today just to say thank you , my parents actually picked up our Kona Bear for us so we never got to say a formal thank you, so we did today and Sarah and Nancy were so sweet. My kitty bestie, Xabi, stayed here whilst both mum and dad were away on business. We were nervous because it was her first time away since we adopted her from Milo and she really doesn't care to be alone. But Xabi just loved it here and was very well taken care of. They sent mum videos and pictures so she would know Xabi was doing well. The place is perfect for kitties because they can see each other so they don't feel alone but have their own space to play and sleep. I have been the BIGGEST fan of kitty charm school from its inception. Sarah is the most conscientious kitty caregiver I have ever met. I would leave my kitty w/ her in a heartbeat because she guards these kitties w/ her life. In fact my kitty allie is a product and huge success of KCS. She was abandoned by her 1st owners and thus had serious abandonment and trust issues. sarah very carefully cared for her very slowly integrating and introducing her to new kitties and she is the most loving, sweetest kitty of all time! Seriously, If I had to leave my kitty somewhere my biggest concern would be her safety and Sarah is probably the 1 person I trust most. She literally treats EVERY kitty as if it were her own. Her intense passion and love for animals is very commendable and her ability to manage and produce is world famous so the combo is really what make KCS totally unrivaled. I had the pleasure of staying there a few times w/ foster kitties and we loved playing with them, singing to them and my favorite....sleeping in the guest room w/ them and waking up w./ a pile of kittens huddled and purring on top of me. I was nervous about leaving my kitty with anyone, but after meeting Sarah and Frank, I knew I could trust them to take such good care of him. Sarah seems to have thought of everything when designing her home to accommodate cats and other critters, and it's obvious that she loves animals and understands them. It was great to get email & text updates on how my cat was doing and it was so nice to get a little picture of him when I was worried or missing him. When I picked my cat up I could tell that he'd gotten a lot of attention and love from Sarah, and he was totally comfortable and relaxed in her home. I have no doubt that my kitty was cared for 100% as well by Sarah as he would have been by me and feel so much better knowing that I have someone I can call to care for him if I need to go out of town. read more

Okay, so I have a special needs kitty, meaning he only likes 2 humans -- me and sometimes my husband. Other than that and you'll visit me at my house and you would never even know I had a cat, never mind that even though he doesn't know you he hates you. So, needless to say when we go out of town its none of that have the neighbor feed the cat business, he goes straight to KItty Charm School to be coddled while he attempts to hide from them all. Seriously - they put nasty stinky cat-food on their fingers and hand feed him so he'll eat, they find him in whatever hole he's hiding and cuddle him, and by the end of a one week stay he might actually be coming out to say hello to them. I love kitty mail, because it starts the week with him scowling from his hole and ends with him flirting with them and wandering around his queen sized room. This review is about a year and a half late, but I have to tell everyone how wonderful this place is!! I was going on a trip and needed to board my needy little princess for a whole week (for the first time ever!). I was particularly worried because she has asthma and needs an inhaler administered twice a day. So we have a scared cat, who doesn't always love strange people and she needs to be essentially held and have a mask put over her face everyday - not a great combo! Sarah the owner worked with me to do a trial run and answer all my insane, non-stop email questions and address all my concerns. After a few bumps in the road, Fonzie did great during her stay. A few days after returning home she developed a little cold so I contacted Sarah asking if any cats may have been sick during her stay that she may have caught it from. Still not sure if that was the case, but either way, Sarah was VERY concerned about how my kitty was doing and even called me one night to check in and make sure she was getting better. They really love and care for all the cats that come through. Awesome place!! read more

Having work done in my apartment I felt it would be best for my cat and me if I could find a safe place for her away from all the work for 2 days. After reading the reviews here on Yelp I decided to give KCS a try. My cat has never been boarded so I was not sure how she would react to being away from home. I have to say KCS is THE BEST place and I would take her back here in a minute if my usual cat sitters could not help me out! Sarah and her staff are amazing and took such good care of my cat and I loved the daily 'kitty mail'. When you go on vacation you want to be able to relax and feel like your cat is safe, getting attention, and cared for. I have never felt so comfortable with cat boarding. The place is absolutely AMAZING and you can tell that Sarah and the staff at Kitty Charm School put a lot of care into it. Not only is the place really "charming" but it is SO CLEAN and organized. As someone who is leaving their pet this is what you want to see. I can ramble all day about how great it is but I want to focus on 2 things. 1) the "kitty mail"!!! They send you pics and videos of your cat while you are away to your email. I cannot think of a better way to know your cat is safe and doing well. It was great so see my cats progress of bonding with the staff when I was away (I was gone an entire month)--a few days in he was nuzzling the staff! And next I want to mention 2) the 13/14 year old girls that give the cats attention and take some of the photos---how great is that? I don't think you would find that at any boarding facility. Bottom line I couldn't have been happier and now I will no longer have to have vacation worries and panic attacks about my cat. i would HIGHLY recommend them! I visited Kitty Charm School recently and am very, very impressed. This "luxury hotel" is absolutely beautiful and extremely well-designed. You can tell that a great deal of thought and lot of love went into this place, taking into consideration what a cat would need during his/her stay, whether young or senior, shy or social. Sarah thought of it all! You should also know that Kitty Charm School will be offering free temporary boarding space to PAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support). PAWS is a nonprofit organization that provides pet care services to companion animals of low-income San Franciscans with disabling illnesses. At times, our clients need temporary foster care for their pets and usually the need is immediate. We have foster volunteers, but sometimes the need goes beyond what we are able to provide at that time. Sarah has graciously offered us space when the need arises so that our clients don't have to worry about who will be caring for their beloved pets while they are in the hospital - truly a gift to our clients! Excellent service - amazingly loving and caring staff (including Sarah), very specific instructions pre-boarding to prepare her customers, daily updates via mms or email, updates on the cat's status, health, general well-being... I boarded my cat for 10 days during my move and she made me feel so comforted. Sarah is the best! I left my fussy little kitties in her care last September (it's taken me awhile to get to this--I am an over-worked teacher!) and she spun her magic on both of my boys. Mick and Pete are feral, and I warned Sarah there could be drama. She was unfazed, and welcomed them to her beautiful Kitty Charm School. My boys shared a Queen Suite for 10 days. Mick was charmed within a day and purred and rubbed to get more attention from Sarah and the KCS team. Pete, however, was a challenge. He took up possession of the sky box and turned into a wild and hairy guy. Sarah didn't give up on him! It took a week of snarling and growling, but by the time I picked the guys up, Pete was getting tummy rubs and having his fur brushed daily. Now how's that for dedication and customer care? I loved the email updates and the videos I received while the boys were at KCS. I never worried for a minute. And I drove from Oakland to Mill Valley just to provide them the very best. I am so glad to know KCS is there for boarding. It is so clean. It smells good, it's peaceful and the place is downright cheerful. KCS is the only of its kind in the Bay Area, and we drove an hour to board our cats here for our 2 week trip. It was the first time we had ever left them. WELL WORTH IT. Our kitties got to stay in a room with multiple levels and we could bring every comfort for them that we could fit (toys, pillows, even our ottoman). Yes, our cats are spoiled :) Sarah was so great when I first called her to inquire about the boarding, she spent about 15 min on the phone with me just chatting about my kitties and what would be best for them. She and her staff work hard to make sure that every cat is well cared for based on their individual personalities. You can tell immediately that Sarah and her staff love what they do and LOVE cats. She really put us at ease and let us leave for a while (actually encouraged it) and come back to help reassure our cats that we were coming back for them. We had constant communication with Sarah and the staff, and the kitty mail she sends is THE BEST. You get to see your cats getting loved and played with, which eased my guilty mind slightly, and it was also great to re-watch the videos when I missed them. If I could give a higher rating than 5 stars I would! We feel so lucky to have found KCS. This was our first time ever looking to board our cats in the US (we only arrived a few months ago from Ireland) as this was our first trip home. And our search was a very specific one. You see not only were we looking for somewhere that could accommodate 2 cats for 14 days but we also needed somewhere that would be able to deal with our special needs cat Ollie. Ollie was involved in an accident a few years ago and due to complications during surgery he ended up with complete urinary incontinence. This means that he needs to wear a diaper and needs to have cream applied regularly to prevent urine scald. Needless to say we were very worried about finding a facility that would not only be able to facilitate Ollie but also one that wouldn't cost us a fortune! I stumbled across KCS through yelp and it was the best discovery ever! I rang to make a tentative inquiry and to see if they would be able to look after Ollie. Sarah, the owner, didn't even hesitate when I explained my situation. She just asked me about Ollie and what was involved in his care. She put me totally at ease and I ended up booking him and my other cat Ruby in before the end of the conversation. As others have said, they made the process very easy, sending on all relevant information. We decided, on Sarah's advice, to book him in the night before we left so we could spend some time showing her and her staff how to look after him and so they could settle in a bit before we had to leave. Ruby, a very easy going cat, settled in immediately but Ollie was a very different story. From the get go he caused trouble and was very upset with being left there. We felt terrible but Sarah and her staff were amazing. We got updates almost daily and we were kept up to date on how they were doing. Ollie slowly came around and by the time we went to collect him he hardly wanted to leave! They got to spend quite a bit of time in the front playroom, which was great because they could watch the world go by outside. Sarah even told us that Ollie ended up being quite the educational tool. People would ask them why he was wearing a diaper and they would explain. We were thrilled to hear this as I think too often incontinent pets can be seen as a burden and very often euthanized. Ollie is proof that they can still lead very happy fulfilled lives with just a little bit of extra effort! I must also mention that KCS is very competitively priced and ended up being very comparable to other mixed animal hotels that I had researched. To find a cat specific facility was amazing.. what cat want's to be anywhere near a dog right?! We cannot thank KCS enough for all they done to make boarding our cats such a pleasure for us and more importantly for Ollie and Ruby. We will definitely be boarding our cats here again and would highly recommend KCS to anyone looking to board their cats. read more

This review has been a long time coming. This could be a long review but KCS is well deserving of the praise. After thoroughly researching boarding facilities in the Bay Area, I landed on KCS and decided this was the best place for my kitties while I was away on vacation for 2 weeks. I have a two cats one that does pretty well with change and one that gets very grumpy about change and unfamiliar places. First of all, the booking and setting up of the reservation could not have been smoother. Their website gives you great advice as to what to bring with you when you drop off your cats for boarding. They were also quite flexible and accommodating when 2 days before I left on my trip one of my kitties became sick and needed to be boarded at the vets for the first week. Also, I loved all the questions they asked about the cats likes and dislikes. Even during the check in process they asked really great questions in order to get a sense of the cats personality and routine. Third of all, kitty mail is AMAZING. I enjoyed the fact that while I was half way around the world I could get regular visual updates on how the cats were doing, Which gave me great comfort. Finally, from what I hear the check out process was also very smooth. Again they were very accommodating when I asked if they could be picked up by a family member a day early because my flight had been delayed. I cannot say enough good things about KCS. They went above and beyond to make sure my cats ( as I am sure they do with all their clients) were safe and were as comfortable in their environment as they could possibly make them. Their facilities are awesome and the play rooms they have for the cats are adorable. I think the only thing that could make this place better would be if they had someone on the premises overnight just in case a cat needs meds or if something were to happen to a cat during the night. However, this is very minor and not having one does not by any means detract from how great this place is. I also give them big kudos and a very big thank you for being patient/understanding while making progress with my cat who can be very grumpy in new places. Best kitty boarding place I have EVER been to. We just boarded our 2 kitties at the new KCS on Miller Ave. We could not have been happier with the service. Many already know Sarah (the owner and manager). She has a truly deep passion for what she does and puts so much thought and creativity into making sure that every kitty (and their owners) gets the most out of their experience at KCS. Back in December of last year, I was desperately trying to find a place to board my cats. During my research, I learned about KCS but was surprised to find that it was operated out of Sarah's home (her policy at the time was to take no more than 3-4 cats at a time). After reading numerous glowing reviews on Yelp and even receiving a referral from another "cage free" boarding place, I felt comfortable enough to give KCS a try. However, they were completely booked at that time. Since then KCS has moved into their new location on Miller Ave in Mill Valley. I decided to pop in for a tour and was really impressed by the new facility. I could immediately tell how much careful thought had been put into the layout and design of the place. Sarah explained how she went to several other cage-free cat boarding places in the bay area (going as far as Santa Cruz). She really did her research and it really shows because the place looks fantastic. There are nicely decorated playrooms, creative layouts for each of the rooms and excellent air circulation throughout the facility as well as through each of the rooms. I have 2 cats and one of them is blind. I am always nervous about where to board her since I know how extremely stressful it can be for her to be in an unfamiliar environment. I had told Sarah ahead of time about my blind cat and when I arrived she showed me how she had specially configured one room to provide my cat with the most comfortable and safe environment (she configured the shelves in a way so that my cat could easily feel her way from one level to the next). Even though I wasn't concerned with leaving my kitties at KCS, I was delighted to receive several emails from Sarah during my holiday that included videos and photos of my kitties happy at play. Clearly they were having a great time and LOVING the amount of the attention they were getting there! This is the first boarding place I have been to that has shown this detailed level of care. I am thoroughly satisfied with my experience at KCS and will definitely be bringing my kitties there again. read more

We dropped our 2 kitties off (all the way from Lafayette) with some trepidation -- they don't do well around other cats. But Kitty Charm School was so clean and welcoming and interesting that they did just fine. In fact, they seemed really happy when we came to pick them up. Sarah truly loves cats and her job, and I would go back in a heartbeat. We especially enjoyed the text messages with updates and the videos she sent. Thoughtful and very reassuring! I just relocated to San Francisco and I needed someplace safe for my spoiled, unruly kitty for 10-12 days. Being new to the area and knowing no one who could take care of my precious pet, I reserved a suite at KCS and crossed my fingers. Sure this place had glowing reviews from proud cat owners, but I'm pretty particular about who takes care of my 8 year old feline. The result? I could not be more pleased with KCS. Mimi is pretty difficult when she's away from home, and these ladies were super courteous and patient. Not only were they a pleasure to work with, but Mimi was well taken care of. Kitties are their business and KCS knows what they're doing. I will be traveling home to NYC pretty often and I'm so happy I found KCS. Let's be honest. Sarah probably likes kitties more than she likes people. She built a beautiful, sunny, comfortable rooms for them to visit. I have to agree with the previous reviewers. I haven't personally used Kitty Charm School for my cats because I live in the East Bay and my cats hate the car. But having known Sarah for many years, I can vouch without hesitation for her unrelenting love and attention to the animals in her care. And she was the one who urged us to get our cats from Milo Foundation and is a huge advocate for animal rescue. I've watched her foster kitties over the years in her wonderful home, and the kitty suite she is offering is as good as it gets- lots of space, lots of love and lots of comforts. I would leave my cats with her without an ounce of worry, and at the end of the day, when I go out of town, my number one priority with my cats is having peace of mind. We've never left our fuzzy friends with anyone overnight and so we were very apprehensive leaving them for a full week during our move. However, I was put at ease the day after we dropped them off. I just left my year-old cat with Sarah for two days and cannot express my appreciation and satisfaction for her attention to my little kitty. Sarah certainly knows cats and their ways and in addition to superbly caring for him, she helped me with some minor behavioral issues and how to deal with them--scratching, and so forth. Kitty charm school is over-the-top; serving the felines that dwell among us is their calling. On a serious note, this business is one that takes customer service to heart, customers non-human and their human owners. Atttention to detail in all aspects and the facility is immaculate! If you have to leave your kitties elsewhere as I did during a remodel, here they will think they're in kitty heaven. I felt rest assured that my cat Sadie was under excellent care at Kitty Charm School. Sarah sent me several text updates (especially on the first day) letting me know how Sadie was adjusting to KCS. Sarah also sent me photos and videos of Sadie purring, eating kitty snacks and hanging out in the outdoor playland. When I came to pick up Sadie on the fifth day, Sadie was joyfully running around the room. Sadie was not ready to leave, just like I wasn't ready to come home from vacation either. WE LOVE KITTY CHARM SCHOOL! It was so great to know that while we were on vacation, so was our cat!! This place is clean, friendly, convenient, and has lots of "suites" to choose from to fit your cat's needs. There are wonderful spaces for the cats to hang out in. Sarah even sent us videos of Zoe while we were away so we could see how much fun she was having and how comfortable she was. It's no surprise that Kitty Charm School consistently receives glowing reviews. Like most kitty guardians, my husband and I were very anxious about leaving our new kitty for 3 weeks while we were out of the country on holiday. Our little Mimi was just barely a year old when we left her at KCS and we were still getting to know her, having only adopted her 3 months prior. From my first encounter with Sarah, I was convinced that Mimi would be in good hands at KCS. And I was impressed that for a relatively new business, Sarah really had it together and had thought through all the details with precision. It's obvious that Sarah and her team truly love kitties and that they treat them with great care and attention. The well-designed condos and playrooms, the sparkling clean facility, the attentive feeding and consideration of their well being, were all indicative of the unique and special place KCS turned out to be. Because we were very apprehensive about just dropping Mimi off and saying 'bye, bye, see you in 3 weeks', Sarah suggested that it would be a good idea to bring her in for the day a couple of times prior to our trip to see how she would respond. And at no charge for the visits! It turned out to be a very good idea and definitely helped Mimi acclimate much easier when the big day came. The biggest concern is always how kitty will do once you leave them off. Well thanks to kitty mail, we could see how Mimi was doing on a regular basis. We were thrilled to receive our Mimi fixes (which definitely eased our minds and hearts). Just being able to see her was reassuring. Knowing that Mimi was going to be loved and played with while we were away more than made up for the guilt we were feeling about leaving her for such a long period of time. We went to bodega bay around July of 2016. Our little boy Mickey needed a place to stay for a couple of nights. We had them and another place in mind. We shot both of them an email, but kitty charm school ended up warming us over. We got there after closing (with an appointment) to drop off Mickey. I think we paid a little fee to drop him off late (between $20-$50). When we got there the owner was incredibly nice to us! We had emailed her all of Mickeys records. The amazing thing she did was run a flea comb through his coat. We have boarded else where and never have I seen someone flea comb him. This was amazing to see, knowing we wouldn't be bringing home little friends. While he was there they emailed us pictures of him (and he doesn't like pictures). I had let them know he doesn't like pictures, so they ninja pictured him for us. It was amazing to be on vaca and know our little boy was safe! The interesting thing was, they told us to bring a dome cat bed, so he could feel safe. We had one left over when he was a kitten, and we thought it was silly bringing it, but we did. We told them he won't use it, but HE DID! They told us he would, and we kind of rolled our eyes to be honest, but they really know what they are doing!!!
