Laurie at KKR is so nice and helpful! Someone dumped some strays in our neighborhood so we started feeding one of the cats. Then this week she brought a few kittens to her little hiding spot on our back porch. I called KKR to ask what I should because I can't, in good conscience, do nothing. She gave me some good advice and said I can call back when the kittens are finished nursing and she will tell me what to do next. I've never been in this situation and I was really nervous because my little dog got curious and there was a scuffle (because Mama was protecting her babies) and I want to make sure both Mama and my dog and all the little babies are safe. I have adopted four different cats from Kitty Kat Rescue over the past ten years. Each of these cats have been the most loving, sweet kitties I have ever known. Laurie, the woman who runs this place, is absolutely amazing. You can tell she cares a LOT about her cats, and wants to make sure that every single cat she adopts out goes to their forever home. The fact that other reviewers are giving negative reviews because THEY had to re-home a pet is disgusting. At what point does you being a poor home mean that the rescue is at fault? You failed your cat and have only you to blame. Pinning it on the rescue, who trusted you to take care of their cat, is cruel. There is no rescue in the world that can take every single cat out there. It just cannot be done. There are millions of stray, homeless cats. Blaming a rescue for not having unlimited funds and room for cats is silly. This is fantastic rescue, and they don't deserve negative reviews for something they cannot help. read more

Kitty Kat Rescue is one of the best no-kill animal rescues I've volunteered for. I've been volunteering at various animal shelters, both general and no-kill, since I was a teenager and they are not all equal! I came across this one by accident a few years ago when I was shopping at the Petsmart off Power. I'm one of those, gotta go look at the animals up for adoption people, even though I don't need anymore pets. The volunteer suggested that since I like to come in and look I should consider volunteering for them. I've now volunteered at KKR for over two years for at least one day a week. As a volunteer its great because since the rescue is no kill you know that if a cat is gone it means it got adopted. The hours are really flexible and duties are straightforward. She's always looking for volunteers so if you're in the area and over 18 yrs of age consider helping out =) Laurie is the founder and she is amazing. I've never seen a woman work as hard as she does. She spends every waking hour dedicated to her cause. She tries very hard to place cats in families where they are good matches for. I've seen her refuse to do an adoption many times because she doesn't think the cat is right for the family, and while this may upset some people in the end this is about the animal, not the people. We see too many cats brought back or dumped places because the family "didn't like it". Another thing I love about this rescue is she will NOT adopt out a sick cat. My boyfriend and I adopted our last cat several years ago from a county shelter and he came to us with an infection that spread to our other two cats. Laurie scrutinizes the cats and cleanliness of the facility every day. If she see's a kitty starting to look sick she takes it out immediately and puts him in her home or in foster and nurses it till it heals. I also like how she will always take a cat back if a family decides they don't want it. She really makes a commitment to her cats to find them a forever home and when something doesn't work out she tries again, and again! Prices are also very reasonable, she has each cat examined by a vet, all of their shots and vaccines are up to date, they are all spade/neutered, and if a cat ever needs an extensive surgery..she scrapes the money together. Cat prices range from 50-100 and sometimes more if she gets a special breed. Considering the length of time she keeps many of these cats (sometimes years), the surgeries and vet bills she pays for, and the high quality food she feeds them...this is cheap. Susan at this location is absolutely disgusting and has the worst customer service I have ever witnessed. Started the conversation at 5:30 with "what do you want" and then told my kittens i was holding were adopted because she was told i would be there at 4:30 when I told KKR i would not get off of work until 5. In the worst possible attitude she went on and on about how we were late so its our fault. When my teenage daughter (who never speaks up) asked her to not give attitude because of how bad it was, she called my daughter nasty. Then proceeded to yell at me and my 3 daughters inside of petsmart. when i called to complain the lady said she has heard many complaints about Susan due to her personality. I adopted my cat from Laurie in 2011. My cat is a Scottish Fold who was called Mona. I renamed her Scotia after I got her home. This cat is the joy of my life and I have Laurie and Kitty Kat Rescue to thank for that. I had lost my 20 year old cat about a year before the adoption and was just looking to see if any rescues might have a Scottish Fold because I loved the breed. To my surprise there were 3 at the rescue. Very quickly two of the three disappeared off the website, so when the one left was still there after a week I finally called Laurie to inquire about adopting the Scottish Fold she had. However, I told her due to my job and night shift work I couldn't possibly be there until the following Tuesday (This was a Friday.) Dispite having been burned by holding cats for people that flaked in the past, Laurie decided I could be trusted, she held the cat for me and I arrived the following Tuesday. That was the first day of my love affair with one of the funniest, sweetest and by far the "coolest" pet I have ever had. Even people I know who don't like cats can't help but love my cat. I have to give Laurie at Kitty Kat Rescue and her crew all the props in the world. They lovingly care for and nurture their cats so that they are well adjusted, socialized and make great pets. She provided all of the cat's medical records to me, including an x-ray (which was negative) due to my cat's odd habit of holding up one of her paws like it is injured. That's a lot of money to put out and only get back a $175.00 adoption fee for this special breed that typically comands from $900.00 to $1800.00 if purchased from a Cattery. I wasn't sure if I was ready for another cat until contacting Kitty Kat Rescue. It was the best move I made that year and I highly recomend to anyone considering an adoption from a rescue, use this one. Im giving this one star because of what my mother has gone through. She adopted a cat 7 years ago and was told this cat was neutered and was a male. She just found out from her vet its a female! Basically my mother was lied to and this poor cat has had so many issues which could have been resolved by the cat being spayed as it was a born a female. I cant believe they lied to my mom and said the cat was neutered when clearly couldn't have been the case when it was born a female. Terrible, if you adopt a cat from here please take it to another vet. read more

I tried contacting over ten rescue organizations about a cat I was aware of that was in dire need of nutrition, shelter and affection. A few days later, two of these organizations e-mailed me back that they are full and cannot help. One kind and caring person contacted me that same evening, although she was full, she said she would help. Laurie from Kitty Kat Rescue accepted this skinny little cat, that was missing hunks of hair, with open arms, (on a Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. no less!). I brought this poor little cat to Laurie and was reassured that her cats were living in spotless clean conditions with full bowls of food and water. We found a tiny kitten mournfully meowing for several days, hiding among some old rugs on a neighbors porch a couple of months ago. He fit in the palm of my hand. Unlike a feral kitten, he snuggled right up and started purring the minute we were able to gently grab him. Not knowing a thing about taking care of a rescue kittten, we relied on others who either were cat foster parents or just did adoptions. They gave great advice for which we are grateful. For some reason we were determined to take care of this little guy, Sunshine and prepare him for adoption in the best way we could . Then we heard about Laurie. What a blessing. She guided us through each step, what tests he needed, vaccines, neutering and care. When it was time, Laurie took him into her home to finish his 'training' to be an adoptable kitty, to get along with other people and cats. When she came over to give him one of his boosters, he was putty in her hands, even though they had only met for a second a few weeks before. He is now in what we call 'first grade' at Laurie's. She is working with him to get over being afraid of this new environment and she knows just what to do. We not only grateful for Laurie's help with our little Sunshine, who we do miss terribly (could not keep him due to where we live), but she is sensitive to our sad feelings about having to set him on the next leg of his journey to a loving and caring home. I know she will make sure he is adopted by people who will love him as much as we do. He is very loving, snuggly and adorable. Kitty Kat Rescue is an excellent organization to donate to.
