I love sushi & this experience was a Mother's Day gift from my daughters. This experience has opened my taste pallet to be more adventurous with sushi. All the courses were tender & fresh. Of the 14 courses the most notable were; Madai (sea bream) - topped with sea salt & rice had some wasabi, Kanpachi (amber jack) - 2nd favorite, rich tasting fish, Salmon with foie gras - fav, smoky foie gras & Shima aji (stripe jack) - buttery, tied with amber jack. This experience is $98 for the 14 courses, they offer add ons pieces. In my opinion this is a one time experience for a special occasion & will expand your sushi palette. The chef was friendly & visited with all the patrons(10 total).

Every bite is a treat. Very attentive service everything is great... small and intimate place... top quality... every combination is amazing...I will definitely go back there again... reasonable is price for the quality of food that we get. Friendly service.

This new place is amazing, Chef Jerry is talented, his dish is curated , his sauce I can drink whole cup, Hirame is my favorite, lol ...I can't believe they moved from New York City to Kansas City , it is steal for me who likes omakase a lot , believe or not , they are the best omakase in KC now !

Such a cute venue. Chef Jerry was so fun and made some of the most delicious Nigiri Ive had in a long time. Our server Hailey was also very attentive and gave us so many great recommendations for sake and for individual pieces to order. Overall was such a fun night and it didnt break the bank compared to other omakase places. recommend you check this place out before the reservations fill up!

Gorgeous new omakase place in downtown OP! Heard about it from Instagram and had to snag a res. It's very small, but the chef handles each dish with the utmost care and it was a very fun dining experience! Lots of premium ingredients being used in his inventive omakase menu, which I enjoyed. Definitely not cheap, but for a special night out, I think this place is definitely worth it.

Service - We were the only ones in the place, and I guess they concentrated on more of the to-go orders because we sat for about 10 minutes before getting someone to take our order. It did come out quickly after the order had been taken. Ambiance - This place hasn't even been repainted since it was Maui Express. The place is haphazardly decorated and has just random stuff tossed on the walls. Seating is about what you would expect to find at a 1980's mall. So here is the crux. They have a good product. If you are getting this to go or having it delivered, then this is stellar. If you are eating at the location... then this is where the value breaks down. You are paying the same amount for a sushi roll here as you would be from any of the other restaurants in the area. But those restaurants have comfortable seating, a true ambiance, and servers. I guess I felt the value dip because I ate onsite. This place is still on my list for delivery though!

They are friendly and the food is amazing. We always start off with the Kun Pun chicken as an appetizer and then the Pad Thai with beef and shrimp. While we didn't have to wait for a table, almost all of them were full when we arrived. Ika is a smaller space in a strip mall off of 119 in Leewood, so there's not a ton of seating but the restaurant went further back than where we sat so there's probably more room than I could see. The kitchen/sushi bar is right up front when you walk in and takes up a good amount of room toward the front but it's aesthetically pleasing. The decor was very nice and everything was clean. They have a big chalk board near the front door, on the wall with their specials. They have quite a few. The menu is very large and our server came over about 5 minutes after we were seated. We ordered some edamame but asked for some more time to look at the menu. When the edamame came out, we placed our order. We decided to both get a side salad with ginger dressing and share two of their special rolls. We got one of the specials off the board, the Hidden Dragon. It was really good and by far my favorite out of the 2 rolls we got. My friend also really liked this roll and thought it was the better of the two. The other roll we got was the Rainbow which is a California roll topped with various types of fish. Neither of us are big fans of salmon so we asked for it to be left off. I didn't really like this roll. I normally love tuna but I prefer it cut a bit thinner and I'm used to it almost having a butter texture where it melts in your mouth. I'm not sure what was going on but all of the tuna had a very strong flavor and yes, I'll say it was fishy. I realize some people like that but I don't. Maybe it was the Hamachi (yellowtail) but it was not for me. I tried 2 pieces and that was enough. My friend liked it better than me but definitely preferred the Hidden Dragon too. I would probably give them a 3.5 if that was an option because the Hidden Dragon roll was very good. The service was efficient and quick. Not overly friendly. They never even acknowledged my friend's bday even though she was opening gifts and we sat a small birthday pop up paper cake card on the table. Not that we expected anything but maybe just a comment about her birthday. Maybe they were too rushed for anything extra. My disappointment in the tuna on the Rainbow roll is my reason for the lower rating. The rolls are $18 each so getting one I really couldn't eat is unfortunate. They also use the crab salad and not just a piece of crab in their rolls. I prefer the latter because I'm not too fond of all the extra mayo from the crab salad. I missed taking pics of our rolls! The Hidden Dragon looked fantastic and the Rainbow looked better than it tasted, lol. My friend still enjoyed her afternoon birthday lunch! I would possibly try them again to explore something else on the menu since there were so many options but I won't go out of my way to return.

My water glass was never empty. Soup is the standard miso soup and is par for the course. Nothing sensational, the flavor was as it should be, so I'm happy with it. Sashimi Medley - Tuna, kanpachi (amberjack), salmon, madai (red snapper), hirame (flounder), toro (fatty tuna), and shima aji (striped jack). Everything is tasty and would be competitive against Sacramento sushi joints. 5041 - crabstick, avocado, and cream cheese wrapped in soy paper, draped with tuna and salmon drizzled with unagi sauce and wasabi mayo. This was a surprise. I think the soy paper and wasabi mayo threw me off! I asked for the recommended roll that was not too spicy, so the server asked if I was okay with cream cheese, and this was the recommendation. This was fresh and the flavors hit for something different that I have not had before. It was yummy, but different than my usual savory. Tempura fried ice cream. It's an extra large scoop of vanilla ice cream dipped in tempura and then deep fried and decorated with chocolate drizzle, whipped cream, and a cherry on top! Then we sat down at the teppanyaki table, and things went south faster than a dropped egg. Our server was solid, but the "chef" was a total trainwreck. It felt like we were an inconvenience to his schedule. He just rushed through the motions with zero engagement, like he was checking off a grocery list instead of actually cooking for people. The "Highlights" (and I use that term loosely): The Timing: I ordered the steak and scallops. He finished my steak before the rice even hit the grill. My cow just sat there getting cold while we watched him "work." The Culinary Wisdom: When one of us asked if the beef was a strip or a ribeye, he literally just said, "It's steak." Cool. Glad we cleared that up. The Cross-Contamination Special: We had a vegetarian in the group. He proceeded to cook her tofu directly in the steak juice. Truly a "chef's kiss" moment if you hate your customers. The Doneness (or lack thereof): The salmon was basically still swimming (raw), and the scallops were charred and tasted like fire and brimstone. The Mussels: I grabbed a side of green mussels. They were... fine? I've had much better elsewhere in town, but they were the Olympic gold medalists of my meal by default. The Silver Lining? The Sake. It came in a take-home glass, was incredibly easy to drink, and was 100% necessary to get through the rest of the experience. I can't speak for the sushi, but if it's handled with the same "I don't want to be here" energy as the teppanyaki, I'd stay far, far away. Two stars only because the hostess was nice and the Sake did its job.
