They created a C corp without S-election for a solo endeavor. I had to go to them to followup about this. They would not have provided guidance. I filled out the 2553 in November. I followed up in February only to realize it had never been filed. They said the determination of S-corp election should return in 8-10 weeks...April is usually the tax filing deadline. read more

My attorney here is Lee Chen and I am hesitant to mention his name because he gets back to me quickly with answers and never over charges when I email a question. I was an out of state client of theirs. They were very concerned about getting paid. And did not perform any work nor provide any advice until being paid. They provided very little advice. They were hired to procure an Revocable Trust. It was over 80 pages long. To make matters worse. If they took the time to explain Florida Intestate, they would have saved a lot of my time and very little of theirs. They did not explain. Also, the draft was already populated. All they did was change 3 names. And each of the 80 pages was stamped Draft. Then, their paralegals started calling me. More than one. They wanted to inform me that any changes to the draft would be billed at the attorney's rate of $400.00/hour. Let's see now! Over 80 pages of a draft!! And they want more money over and above the $$$thousands already paid. This company is a too large of a Conglomerate related to the Mob as far as I'm concerned. read more

I have been a big fan of Mark Kohler for years and I had been trying to convince a relative to get a living trust with KKOS. I called KKOS to ask a few questions but no one was available so they took down my number and email address. I said I have a check in my hand, I have a few questions and I am ready to move forward, please have someone call me. I didn't get a call back, I got an email from an "new client specialist". All they did was copy and paste the text from the website and ask if I am ready to move forward. I responded with, I have a few questions. The "new client specialist" responded with "ok, thanks". Literally that's it. I don't understand how this simple process of business could have gone anymore wrong... I'm really bummed out. They just take your credit card info and charges you upfront to do a consultation. Regarding the actual service, I tried to set up a revocable living trust with Kristie Parker. She disappeared after consultation and never answered my questions via email. Then Drue Trabanino, a paralegal was the one who made a draft for my trust. I made corrections and changes then months later I never heard from him so I had to contact him. He did not do anything but forwarded my case to someone else and told me to deal with a new person. I swallowed the red Kool-Aid that Mat Sorenson & Mark Kohler so brilliantly dole out--really, their video & podcast presentations are valuable, eye-opening, and exciting. Even had great business consultation calls with both of them about 18 months ago. Have my taxes done by their CPA firm and have multiple accounts with Directed IRA as well. The problem: They no longer consult with their own clients in a non-package deal and you can forget about getting an appointment anytime soon. You can't even speak with one of their other attorneys, even if you're one of their clients already. In other words, pony up the multi-thousand dollar dough for a business entity package, CRT formation, etc. and wait months even if you have just a few pressing questions for them regarding your day-to-day business, or about CRTs, etc. I was just told by Mark's assistant (after weeks of no return calls) that "we simply don't have to take clients [or current clients] on anymore in non-package deals since we're blowing up so big." The solution: Listen to what they say and then go hire another firm to answer your questions and institute their valuable strategies. Do not recommend. We tried their strategy, hired them to restructure our company and now we're paying for an unnecessarily complex structure that has not provided us the benefits we expected. Now we're working to undue what we paid a good chunk of money to do. Overall, this whole restructuring process is costing us way more money than it should have. We should have checked their reviews before ever doing business with them, had we seen them, we probably would not have hired them. Sadly the bad reviews are true. Saw Mark Kohler's YouTube videos and he has a great grasp on tax law and small business. So as he recommended I set up an appointment with one of his lawyers. Well I was hoping to get a LLC started and elect to be taxed as a S Corp. Everyone else I knew set this up easily on LegalZoom. But Mark said that was a mistake. Well $400 later the decision as to what was best to set up was being left to me even after a 1 he consulration. Over a week later nothing has been done, no communication And I am still right where I was 2 weeks ago except our $400. The entire process to set up a LLC $800. Set up a living trust 2016. Ok process. I am a lawyer (but not in trusts). The attorney I worked with was not familiar with how family businesses should be put into the trust, and the family business was our biggest asset at the time. Overall I feel the process was cookie-cutter. I do not feel the final product was any better than a computer generated trust. Earlier this year, I had a question about opening a brokerage account in the name of the trust. The brokerage wanted a tax id. The paralegals were stumped and asked me to email the attorney who drafted our trust. However, the lawyer returned a generic response and didn't answer my question. Worse, he ended the email with a note that this will be billable - "Be advised that we do bill our time for these inquiries once the trust setup has been completed." What class... But the way, earlier on, separate from the trust, I also got to talk to Mark Kohler on the phone for a "free" 15 min consult. I read one of his books and was sufficiently interested. But ultimately I didn't hire him for tax planning because I felt he was rushed to give his spiel and more importantly didn't listen. Set up a trust with the firm and paid in full. Sent over the draft to be finalized and they never ever replied to my email! For months!!! Things were not finalized and I was ready move my assets and just waiting. Tried to call no one answered. Impossible to get a hold of anyone after I had paid. Had a consultation with a tax lawyer and he was not ready to answer the qs that I sent over weeks ago. Extremely angry with this firm. I spoke with Kevin Kennedy out of Phoenix and not only was he very professional he was very personable. His knowledge is vast when it comes to business entities. $125 for half an hour consultation on creating the LLC and $400 to prepare and file all paperwork for the LLC by his paralegals (other option is $800 for personal preparation and filing by Kevin plus consultation rate included is an option as well... recommended when there will be multiple partners) All the people I have connected with have been very friendly and prompt, answering any questions I may have by phone or email. They may be on the more expensive side, but I believe that comes with the quality and knowledge that KKOS lawyers provide. These people are ridiculous. I was referred to Mark (one of the owners by a friend. Now I dont have as much money as this friend and am not all buddy buddy wtih him and it was obvious in the way I was treated. I was a client with them for two years and when I called to do my taxes one year they said I wasn't in the system and that I would be put on a waiting list to get any help. So I went elsewhere. But we weren't done. I had started receiving text message marketing a few months later and after a while finally got them to stop. I told them why I didn't want to hear from them and about how frustrated I was about the situation. They said sorry but didn't seem to remotely care about it and never did anything to rectify. I just got a "sorry" from one of their not very helpfully receptionists. About a year later I get a phone call from them so I called back right away after just missing it and the girl asked around for who called me and said that she had no idea and to check if I had a voicemail and hung up on me. No goodbye no nothing. I did end up with a voicemail on them marketing to me for a consultation to help me with my s corp. So I called back and now that I was calling back about an offer they knew who I was and when I told the girl about the history with them, half way through she tried to abruptly stop me and tell me her side of the story as opposed to just hearing me out and seemed to be frustrated with me. WITH ME! the call simple ended with her pretty much being like sorry well make sure to take you off the list. It wasn't until this that I decided to put this review up here. They don't not care about the people they care about money. Its $300 an hour just to talk to Mark and I once had to call him back for 5 minutes and they billed me for those 5 minutes. If you don't have a lot of money I wouldn't even bother. Even if you do, know that they don't care about you, they care about your money and how much they can make off of you. If you utilize their company, almost every time you call them you will deal with someone new. Zero personal feeling with these guys. I first heard Mat Sorensen do an IRA LLC web presentation on Youtube for a custodian company. I like what he had to say and how he said it, he was very clear and sounded very well informed on the issue. I don't know why I didn't just call him right away to see if he would help me form my IRA LLC, maybe because he was not in my state?..Maybe because I thought he would be too busy? to expensive??? I don't know what my problem was but I called 5 different lawyers all who didn't seem like they had the same level of expertise Mat did. As my frustration grew so did my courage. I finally figured... what did I have to lose? Just call the guy I heard on Youtube! So I did. WOW! He knocked my socks off even more on the phone. He answered all my hard questions about forming an IRA LLC while living abroad and didn't need to go on and on trying to impress me with his knowledge like some of the other lawyers. His friendly, clear, concise answers spoke for themselves. After I decided to go with Mat and KKOS I have been unbelievably happy with their level of service. The entire team is sweet, friendly, educated and helpful. They ALL seem like they know me when I call and always treat me with kindness and respect. The clarity of their instructions while setting up the IRA LLC was unparalleled. They would send me emails as to what they would do and what I would need to do.
