She took my phone number and asked if I would like a text when my jacket was finished. I think that's a great option. She also asked when I would like it by and next day was an option so I chose that as well. Next day I received a text saying my jacket was ready to be picked up. When I arrived I was able to pick it up quickly and easily and the cost for the Dry Cleaning and the repairs was less than $40. Pretty amazing. The only reason I won't give it 5 stars was that my jacket still had a lot of cat hair on it. I was hoping the cleaning would have removed it all but there was still a noticeable amount left. ...besides that I would use Gibson cleaners again.

My overall first and only impressions of this place is certainly one that they won't be able to clean off. Seriously, first experiences with a business, big or small, shouldn't take the form of a rant. A friendly lady that greeted me was not sure if they can handle such a coat in-house. She informs me that she'll check with fellow staff, and if they can't, they can if I like have it sent off to an industrial service where they send their customers's rugs and all-fur coats to, for a higher cost. Fine; maybe she is new or whatnot, what do I know? She took my phone number to follow up. From there it simply went downhill. The next day a man calls back. Yes we can! We do these types of jackets all the time, I was told. And for $29.95, "We do no tax, OK? We do professional." Certainly not the estimated $20-25 I was first told, and certainly less than impressed by the way he was speaking, but I'm like, alright. He hung up quickly. The pickup was the worst. A grumpy old lady was manning the front. And I mean grumpy--service with an attitude! What the hell did I do?! My jacket's done alright, but as I took a quick look at it (a thorough inspection at home reveal no damage or oddities), she remarked in a snarly condescending tone, "Why, that's not your jacket? It is, look!" Then came the bill. $33.85, essentially with tax added. That's okay, except that was not what I was told before. Seems like poor communication is ripe at Fairview, and I quickly realize nothing was going to change the fact that this damned old lady was screaming at me numbers and "THEY DO FIFTY SOMEWHERE!" because she knew nothing of what's going on. Terrible. Why on earth are people like her even behind the counter? Professional my ass. It's butt-awful customer service is what it is, not so much the bitter finish that made me feel like my presence and business overall is a burden, as it is that I felt like talking to different confused heads of a hydra instead of the whole hydra in union. It is one of the worst kind of customer service and organization/teamwork when everyone is saying different things, and not everyone knows what the other is saying nor understands nor is doing, nor knows of nor had agreed to. No wonder no one here can give a straight answer or own up to their word. Don't waste my time; know what your business can do, communicate properly, and get your shit together, because nobody likes to give hard earned money to clueless unprofessional pricks (who would?), regardless of how good your product/service may be. Needless to say, being treated this way, I will never return here again and wouldn't wish it upon others. I guess my frustrating search for a respectable local cleaner that can do more than just the small stuff continues (which honestly should not be so bloody difficult, but apparently it is), as will my frustration with an industry that shows no consistency. Arrrgh! (Or maybe I should just resort to the cheap and preferable DIY approach and stick it in my wet washer and hope nothing bad happens. I'm sure nothing will.)

She did admit that they messed up the job and she paid for the corrections at another alterations spot around the corner on Yonge St (who I won't mention), but she accused me of all manner of ill intention (including being racist against my own people!) in order to score points in petty arguments that really shouldn't have arisen to begin with. It all centered around my telling her that the style of alteration that was promised to me wasn't the kind that was done (I was told there would be darts in the waist instead of opening the seam on this job). She said that no alterations place would do darts and they couldn't look good so she didn't know why I'd be promised that or why I'd believe it. I assured her that many Caribbean alterations people did darts to accommodate different body shapes (since I have thick thighs and butt compared to my waist). She said I was racist against black people for saying some of us (including myself!) have thicker butts. I assured her I was speaking about myself and I loved myself and was not racist against myself or my people but by then she was in what I would describe as full meltdown mode. Anyway, she told me she'd never want my racist business again and I told her she was crazy. I reaaaaallly try to avoid bad interactions like this so it really took some pretty constant dedication on her part to get me to tell her flat out that she was crazy. She also told me repeatedly about how accomplished she was, how she owned the place and had at least two university degrees (I forget the number now) and she generally seemed absolutely out of her tree during the course of our interactions. I took my poorly altered jeans to a nearby alterations spot and told them the same thing - that my butt and thighs were disproportionally thick for my waist and he replied "It's a long time I'm in business - I have a lot of African and Caribbean clients - I know different body shapes". I didn't even ask him for it but he did darts! Despite Flair Cleaners assertion that nobody would and they couldn't look good! And they are seamless. Perfect. If I knew how to take a photo and upload it I would (and maybe I'll learn how to show the work). And I wasn't called racist against my people and he didn't tell me about his university degrees and his general importance or speak down to me or against me in any way. Night and day experiences. AND he likes me coming back to his shop! I imagine I just caught the owner on several bad days or managed to trigger her somehow, because I can't believe she goes through life interacting with strangers like that on a regular basis. If I could add a 1/2 star for "benefit of the doubt" (since everybody has bad days) I would, but for all she said to me and about me, there's no way I could give 2 stars.

On this visit, I needed my uniform blazer fairly quickly and they offered same-day service, albeit with an added fee which I felt was understandable. We dropped off a trench coat for cleaning and tightening of buttons. Upon pick-up, we noticed that an epaulet and small strap on the shoulder were missing, while the other epaulet was hanging, half ripped off and held on with a safety pin. It looked as if the work was unfinished. We went back to inquire and were met with antagonism, which we found highly unprofessional. The male, who I'm guessing is the owner, came out without a mask and began explaining loudly, talking over me, that he 'specifically' remembers my jacket out of the hundreds hanging, and that he had noticed it had missing parts (he further claimed that he had forgotten to make a note of this, while claiming that his staff is very thorough and would never miss this). I do not deny the work ethic or thoroughness of the staff, but with the sheer volume of clothing in this shop everyday, there would be room for human error, as there is with any business of this kind. The other employee, a blonde woman, was kinder at first and told us that she would look for the pieces, sew back the one epaulet, and call us back later the same day. Unfortunately, she never followed up, so we went in the next day and were met by the woman again. She explained that she hadn't found any pieces and 'strongly believes that it had been brought in that way'. The epaulet was also not sewn back on, like she promised they would do. I asked her whether they had a policy to make a note of missing pieces when an item of clothing is brought in - she put her head down and ignored my question. I assured her that the jacket was brought in totally complete, with no missing or ripped pieces. In fact, the pieces that are missing clearly point to it being a dry cleaner issue; the epaulet and straps are decorative so there would no reason to remove these pieces unless the jacket was getting thoroughly cleaned/fixed. It's obvious something went wrong during the process. During the course of the conversation, the woman became very condescending and visibly angry. She refused to take any responsibility, further insinuating that I am a liar/fraud. I am extremely disappointed at the way people from the local community are treated at this store - these folks need to work on customer service and conflict resolution skills (and for the male owner, following Public Health guidelines, which is very worrisome during COVID). What was most disappointing is that there was no solution provided, nor any accountability taken. When we asked her what she can do for us at this point to remedy the situation or come to a shared resolution, she just shook her head and said that the store did nothing wrong. Now I am left with an incomplete, damaged garment.
