Beginning July 7th, Klavon's reopened their dining room. Their staff is very friendly and helpful, and the food portions are generous. Although the prices are a bit higher than most comparable restaurants, you can usually get two meals from each serving. During the general COVID-19 lockdowns, the dining room was closed but the drive-up window was active, serving customers who ordered and paid by phone. The manager matched all tips as an added benefit to his staff. Because of the added effort required for the team to serve its clients, I have doubled my usual gratuity and continued to do so throughout the lockdowns. Now that their dining room is fully open, the packed parking lot is evidence that Klavon's is the most popular eatery in Mason. The first time I went to Klavin's, they had just opened. The food was too salty, the service was mediocre and I was not impressed. Because it was local, a family member encouraged me to try it again, so I did-about 6yrs later. We made a reservation so there was no wait. The server was prompt with the drink and our dinner orders. The food was out quickly and it was excellent. The server made a tiny error and fixed it right away (nothing big, just a sauce switch). We're big tipper's so we love great service, especially in these difficult times. It was a wonderful experience and I was glad to have given it a second chance. We've been back several times and always walk away happy. They're usually pretty busy-esp on holidays, so I recommend making a reservation on Open Table or calling/reserving online through the Klavon's website is highly recommended. They also have a rewards program if you're interested that. The ambiance is cool and relaxing. The bar is nice, I believe there's pool upstairs (although I've never been up there), and the main dining section has individual tv screens for music or entertainment-which is good for watching sports or distracting the kids. As far as the ambiance goes here, the atmosphere almost feels out of place for being in such a small town like Mason. Not a bad thing though, it's a very fun place to be in and look around, definitely have to sit upstairs next time I go. As far as the service goes, everyone always seems to be putting in their best effort and I can't say they ever disappoint! Lastly, as far as the food goes, their most popular item seems to be their Chicago style deep dish...I've had it and I know it's pretty authentic but I gotta say...Detroit style pizza all the way haha. Aside from that dish, I did enjoy the Margherita pizza I had, absolutely fantastic! Overall, there's a lot of reasons for me to give this place five stars but I will say that it's a bit pricy and not a place I go to very often. I personally would've given Klavon's 5 stars, but the wait was ridiculously long (1.5 hrs.), and there was no way to make reservations, call ahead, or get on a wait list from an app. Good thing they have a pretty good sized waiting area. It's frustrating waiting in the lobby when you can clearly see empty tables that are available on the first floor. (The second floor was closed due to a shortage in staff.) Other than that, the food was really good, and the separation of the dining rooms, bar, and lobby gave a classy vibe and helped to keep the noise down. We were dining with our in-laws who are older, and we had to trouble hearing each other while catching up in the waiting area and in the dining area. The music volume was just right. The variety of menu options was just right, and there was something for everybody. We had the meaty calzone and pepperoni pinwheels, and we had a lot of leftovers for the next day. First timers. It was Saturday night. We made reservations online and were sat right away. My wife and I started with the pepperoni pinwheels, then a Greek salad, and then two Neapolitan pizza, the Margherita and the Dolce Diavola. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was excellent. This is a contemporary pizzeria with a bar. There's a huge aquarium in the bar and they have second floor seating over the bar. We had 3 pizzas. Build your own cheese thin crust (better deal for kids than 2 kids pizzas), Detroit-style Corktown BBQ, and a cauliflower crust Ms. Jackson. I thought both the Corktown BBQ and Ms Jackson were good, but Ms Jackson was my favorite of the two. They also had salads, calzones and sandwiches. The hostess was very friendly and nice. I love the design layout of the restaurant with the bar area in front, dining on all sides of the bar an especially the upstairs dining area. The staff has always been friendly every visit. This visit there was a 45 minute wait for a table, I chose to sit at the bar and immediately sat at the bar. The menus provide quite a few options and obviously they do specialize in pizza however there are a lot of options that are very good. I had dinner with my Mom on this night as I was traveling back home to Virginia the next day. My mom had the Rueben sandwich and I had The Detroiter. My pizza came out hot and fresh. The flavors were very fresh and the sauce was perfect. This is my go to when I am home. The Rueben my mom had came out looking amazing and had a side of chips. I have to admit I may have to try the Rueben on my next visit. Almost forgot we had the calamari for an appetizer. The calamari was really good and I like the salt and pepper breading that's friend and tossed in their house Parmesan blend. Have never been to this location and was looking forward to giving it a try as it meant not having to drive further to Jackson where Klavon's other location is. Keeping consistent quality at small restaurants that expand is a difficult task in my opinion. From all we saw here, Klavon's was able to duplicate their winning formula. We've always enjoyed their Chicago style stuffed but was in the mood for a thin pizza tonight. We were not disappointed. Crust was nice and firm without overcooking the cheese. The pepperoni was charred nicely and had great flavor. Sauce was excellent as usual. Restaurant was "COVID" spaced but still spacious and not crowded feeling despite being very busy. Let me start out by saying I love this place! I didn't think I could love them anymore than I already did, but unprovoked they went above and beyond tonight. We had a 35 minute wait for our party of 7 so I went to the bar for a beer. They ran out of clean beer glasses so it was a little bit of a wait (didn't matter much to me). I was accompanied at the bar by my four year old daughter and the bartender gave her a little cup of gummy bears while we waited (how sweet!). All of our apps were amazing: spin dip, pep pinwheels and onion straws. When our food came out they forgot the top to our Chicago style pizza. Without saying a word the manager was there when it came out and apologized, left that pizza with us and made another Chicago style pizza for free. The service there is 2nd to none. We had a great first visit to Klavon's! Went on a weeknight and walked right in. I know on weekends there is a long wait. The ambiance is awesome. Really pretty design elements, cool lighting, good mix of music with music videos playing on some screens, plus other screens with funny animal videos alternating with cool drone videos of beautiful places. Our server was great, answered all of our questions, was friendly, and even gave us a coupon for a free appetizer on our next visit because we told her it was our first time there. Was really missing Chicago deep dish pizza and I heard Klavon's was one of the closest to Chicago deep dish pizza, so I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. The pizza was pretty good, minus the black olives. My pizza was ready within 25 mins for pick up. The portion size for a large was great, definitely enough to feed my whole family. They didn't have anchovies, a pizza standard in my book & the severe lack of sauce made this a very bland pie. I'm sad they don't seem to have recipes to assure consistency in their products - it's kinda hit or miss...mostly miss for me!! The server supplied us a current beer list & 2 different drafts on the list were not available, but guess what was: "Bud Light"! Who's drinking this now? My fiancé surprised me on Valentine's Day and took me to Klavon's! I have been wanting to try their pizza for a while, but we don't necessarily live close so it hasn't been the most convenient pizza option for us. He called ahead and we were seated within ~5 minutes of arriving. Our server said it was busier than normal since it was Valentine's Day so we waited quite a while for our pizza and enjoyed a side salad while we waited. We ordered a bbq chicken Chicago deep dish since they were all out of Detroit style deep dish dough, as well as a traditional round seafood pizza. The presentation was nice on both pies, and I enjoyed the seafood pizza just a tad more than the bbq chicken because it was unique and because the deep dish dough was a bit dense for my liking. (We don't usually order deep dish for this reason, but gave it a shot since they were out of Detroit style!) I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the ambiance here being top notch for a pizza place and that the bathrooms were impeccably clean. This is my favorite pizza in Michigan. To be clear, my favorites are the Detroiter and the wood-fired pizzas. If you get the wood-fired pizzas, you MUST have it asap. That's when it's at it's premium. This is one you don't get to-go. It's not a takeout pizza. 00 flour, imported tomatoes, fresh ingredients! Incredible! They are so friendly here, service is great.
