After an amazing day at the Vienna Military Museum, we looked for a close spot with great local food. We found it!. We could not have been happier with Klein Steirmark! Our waitress, Tina was excellent and steered us toward some great selections. I ordered the spicy ribs which came well prepared over one of the few open pits in the Vienna area. The ribs were cooked well done into my liking, but not necessarily the fall off the bone type that Americans are accustomed to. Definitely prefer my ribs well done rather than undercooked. The flavors were amazing. My wife got the chef's special chili peanut chicken. Slow roasted chicken thighs with amazing seasoning and sauce. Finished our meal with an apricot ice cream dessert which I understand to be seasonal. The entire meal was amazing and highly recommend to anyone in the area. read more

I arrived in Vienna with a severe cold, and my hotel reception recommended this place for a hot soup. Unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing. I sat for 50 minutes and was completely ignored by all three servers, even after explicitly stating I was ready to order. Eventually, I stood up and asked to pay for my drink so I could leave. They offered no apology whatsoever. The service felt dismissive, rude, and unfortunately, left me wondering if there was an underlying bias against foreigners. read more

January 2/2025: Dinner with the Al. This is a cool restaurant located inside a public park. It's rather small but has good seating. It was a Thursday nite so it was kind of quiet when we arrived. The food was the most delicious food I've had in Austria...but that's not saying much. I found the food to be mostly tasteless in Austria. I had the American Cheeseburger with a side salad. The burger was pretty good but the salad was excellent. I asked for the fries to be well done & they were and were very tasty. This meal worked with a delicious beer. Loss of a star because the waiter walked past my table & bumped into my elbow while I was drinking my beer causing the glass to knock against my teeth & jarring my head. He looked back & offered just a tertiary apology for his bump. Not what should have taken place. Food was good however. read more

Where to start. This place is nestled away in the Swiss Garden which was across the street from our Hyatt Andaz Hotel. Now this was my first time in Vienna and I was only here for a couple of days but I wasn't gonna pass up the opportunity to try their food. Now this place had a touristy vibe but the food was on point I went for a classic and ordered the Wiener Schnitzel...I mean if you come to Vienna and don't try it did you even come?! Man I know this plate looks "plain" but I'm not gonna lie...it was amazing. The veal was absolutely delicious and so tender...and the potatoes were equally as delicious...I could've had a plate of these potatoes alone and I would've been happy. I mean this region of the world KNOWS how to make potatoes...they've had centuries to perfect it. The other dish wasn't mine (my daughter ordered it) but I believe it was beef and garlic...and ooof...I mean c'mon it's garlic!! So of course it's gonna be good! Service was attentive and very nice even though we absolutely butchered the German language in our attempts lol they put us out of our misery and answered us in English Also this place was the only place open on a Saturday around lunch time near our hotel so that was a plus! Great food, price, and service! Christoph is absolutely charming! The Pork Baby Back Ribs and Fried Chicken Half are simply amazing. For the chicken, don't dilly dally - eat it fast when it is hot. Portions are generous on the ribs but if you share, the bigger rack on the bottom seem to be more tender. Tip - don't use towlettte, if leaves a fowl smell. This didn't influence my review but leave a review and you will get free dessert. read more

The food was really great, it is a place for locals. The service was terrible. They never checked on us and it appears if you are not a local you are not wanted. We were staying at the Andaz nearby and this is a short walk away! Plus it was recommended by the front desk. FOOD King Prawns (4 stars): Cooked perfectly! And the pineapple salad with it has so much flavor. I recommend getting this if you love shrimp! Chicken Cordon Bleu (3.5 stars): Moist chicken. The potatoes with it didn't have much flavor. Chocolate Soufflé (3.5 stars): Rich chocolate flavor with a liquid center. Vanilla ice cream wasn't the best but the soufflé was good. Service (5 stars) Service was great! ATMOSPHERE Big restaurant. We sat inside since it was raining but the outside was cute also. Came on a Thursday and had no wait, but there were still a lot of people there. I'm staying at the Andaz Hyatt up the road and found this restaurant on Yelp. What a find! This was a short 5 min walk into the nearby park. When the weather is nice, they have ample outside seating. The restaurant was totally full inside so we were sat on a covered patio that was still a bit too chilly for us. The host found a place for us to sit inside when one was available and it was cozy and a nice authentic vibe. I ordered a seasonal cream of mushroom soup and the salmon filet. My friend ordered the seasonal tri tips in cream mushroom sauce with potato pancakes. Thank goodness the soup didn't come because the entrees were HUGGGGEEEEEE. The salmon came with a big side salad and a baked potato. The food was legit and a good price the potato cake was the best tasting thing out of them all with the salmon next up. The salmon was a bit charred on the skin so if you caught a flake of that in your bite, it added the char flavor. All in all, great gem of a location if you are by the Belvedere Palace! read more

Came in for lunch and sat outside. Nice outdoor seating area. Ordered one of the chef's suggestions which was boneless chicken thighs w a chili peanut sauce. Was delicious. Ordered apple strudel for dessert w cream. I feel like this was pre made and they tossed it in a microwave. The pastry was dough-y and limp and overall was served way too hot but still was good. The 3 stars comes from settling the bill. It is my understanding that since servers are paid a decent wage, tipping isn't customary. I motioned to a server for the check, he asked cash or card. I said card. He told me the amount and then asked what i wanted to put on the card. I told him the amount he quoted. He said "No service?" "What do you mean?" I asked. "No tip?" He said. "Am I supposed to?" I asked. "No" he replied. "Then no" i said. "Was there something wrong?" He added "No" i said. "You're very kind" he said to me trying to make me feel bad for not tipping. Loved this place! Came with a fam of 6 including a senior. The staff greeted us kindly and even though we butchered our German, the guy helped us immediately and asked us if we wanted an indoor or outdoor table. He made sure we understood if we wanted smoking or non smoking. He knew we couldn't speak full German but he got us menus that were both German Language and English. The staff were super nice and helped us get our bearings as we attempted our best to try speaking German. Every time we tried our hand at German or English, he took it with what I perceived as kindness and positivity. We never felt put out. We felt the selection was super Austrian/Viennese which was nice and super different to what were used to. Some of the items were Winter Inspired so it was seasonal, but the Deer, duck and Goose dishes were amazing! Soft, succulent and rich dishes that highlighted what eating traditionally is all about. They even had a savory Apple/Chestnut soup! The beer selection was concise and the deserts were the most amazing experiences we had so far. Soft dough, sweet fillings and lovely textures with unique flavors like Plum, Vanilla and Caramels. It felt home made and honestly like going to a friends house for food. I think from our view as visitors to Austria, this place was such a good example of what it's like to eat Viennese. The price was fair and honestly we took home left overs because the portions were so giving. It's a cute place with what felt like other people who felt the same way about the place. The bathrooms were clean and the place was clean with like I said "a home feel" that in a place of Wien Hapf is almost like a blast from the pass. Also the server guy that we had reminded me of Mads Mikkelsen. Haha. TLDR: this place is great if you are open to trying new things, you try your best to help a non-English speaker get your order right, and if you are a little kind while going in wanting to have a good time. Just arrived in Vienna and staying at the Andaz nearby. I pulled up Yelp for the nearest and highest rated restaurants and Klein Steiermark was at the top of the list. We ordered the Prawns and Pork Schnitzel and we were disappointed. A great meal for the first night in Vienna. There were so many good options it was hard to settle on one. I'll be back. read more

Absolutely delicious, hearty fare, perfect after a long train ride in the rain. Lighter fare is available but we both had hearty portions of meat and potatoes, which was perfect. A dark beer to top it all off and we were sated. read more
