What a hidden gem this place is in Terre Haute, Indiana! Came here with a group from work. It's located in the heart of downtown, but almost not so visible from the street. I literally zoomed by here for years not knowing it was there. We came with a group of 8 and we were able to be sat right away around 12:30 on a random Thursday. Service was great, even with the big table, our server gave us lots of attention and all of our orders were correct. She kept our drinks filled and kept coming back to check on us. The menu offers something for everyone. I tried a burger with pepper jelly and it was fantastic! I say if you come, try something new, while they have "normal" options, I suggest getting something you can't get other places because it will probably be delicious! Pricing is pretty typical, maybe a little high for lunch but nothing crazy. They do have parking behind the building but it doesn't hold a ton of cars, so you may have to resort to street parking but it it is free, so that's a plus. read more

This lunch spot is amazing. The inside is very nice and the bar is cute too! I ordered the chicken gyro with chips and it was amazing. The flatbread was so good and it had a ton of toppings piled on. My partner got the barbecue burger that was the special and it was huge! He loved it. We also got the lemon meringue pie, and it was incredible. The whipped cream was homemade and was so so good. (A little late in posting this, but better late than never.) What a treat! Took my mother and family for her birthday and was blown away by the customer service, attention to detail and depth of the menu. The menu successfully navigated two different food allergies we had to account for, and the price/value was only trumped by the incredible quality! A nice touch since the last time I'd been was the addition of happy hour appetizers, which gave some of the less adventurous among our party an affordable chance to sample a dish or two they wouldn't normally have tried. Picking something from the after dinner dessert tray was easily the hardest decision we had to make all night. This building is quintessential to the Terre Haute area, owned by a local family. The unassuming exterior gives way to a modernized interior with laughter and happiness. We happened in for a special night with a limited menu. The waitstaff dressed in ugly sweaters and traditional Christmas decor filled the modernist space. Speaking of servers, this point was possibly the most unfortunate part of the night. We waited quite a while at every turn, this is even taking into account the effects of the pandemic for businesses. The Mediterranean flair was noted even in the small menu, and the Greek salad was by far the highlight of the meal. That being said, there were other options from a more Americana set. The entrees were alright, a limited menu probably should bring more punch, but my Beef Kabob was hard to get off the skewer, had plenty of fat chunks, and was mostly salt and pepper seasoned. The drinks we ordered were also pricey and lacking in any complex flavors of cocktails, even traditional ones like a Manhattan and Old Fashioned (which I could have sworn I got the same drink). I would give this a four, as I know service can vary, but the cost was high and not something you expect from a costly meal. I hope to be back and give the place a chance in a normal environment, but you have to wait until close to the weekend as it is often closed during the week. read more

I've dined at the Saratoga several times over the years, and it never disappoints! They always have fresh, delicious food, with an ever-evolving menu. They also have special events and menus on most holidays! I believe they are best known for their prime rib, burgers, and Middle Eastern dishes. Most recently, we were able to walk in on a regular Saturday without reservations and be seated in a booth within 5 minutes! The food and service were both amazing. Shoutout to Jeromie the server for being so kind and attentive to us all evening! I ordered a cucumber drink that was very interesting, and my partner and I split a Mediterranean appetizer that was yummy! I believe it had housemade pita chips, hummus, whipped feta, and a rice-chickpea salad of some sort that was especially tasty. I greatly appreciate that they have a unique salad selection and a wide variety of vegetarian dishes to choose from. For my meal, I ordered a Mediterranean salad with chickpeas and feta that was wonderful, albeit very similar to the appetizer, but I still enjoyed it. My partner ordered the pepper jelly burger and said it was one of the best burgers they've ever had. For dessert, we took a homemade Nutella bar to go and devoured it later in the evening. At the end of the day, our bill was under $60 which is pretty shocking for an appetizer, an alcoholic beverage, two dinners, and a dessert nowadays. I met friends there and we had a delicious meal. My dining partners were split with two of us getting the tasty Brie chicken with dried cranberries and one of us going for the much loved kibby sandwich and salad. We barely talked once our food arrived. We were too busy digging into our meals because everything was so delicious. Neat hole in the wall at 5th and Wabash right on the edge of ISUs campus. The place has been here since the 1940s and has become a fixture in Terre Haute. Have driven by 100 times and never stopped. In town to see family and took a chance for a quick sandwich lunch. The place is full of history, clean, quiet, with made from scratch food and deserts. I had the tenderloin and fries. Hands down it was the best tenderloin that I've ever had. Made fresh in the restaurant. Pounded out nice and thin. Lightly breaded. Delicious. Fries were hand cut but a little "limp". The Saratoga is a landmark restaurant destination that I'm only starting to appreciate now that I've passed the half-century mark. It's not hipster or trendy or fusion fancy, just good independent Terre Haute food on the historic Wabash Avenue. Saratoga has a restaurant side and a bar/pub side, but they both have that classic feel, like a comfortable pair of saddle shoes, corduroy pants, or a 1950s Chevrolet. The menu has gone through updates over the years, the current one features several middle-eastern items as well as Midwest comfort food staples. Historic photos from Saratoga and Terre Haute past are prominently displayed on the walls. The food was above average, but still had room for improvement. The wait staff were busy but courteous, and made a point to get our two-top order in the kitchen ahead of the fifteen person family reunion. I'm in town two or three times a year, so I'll certainly stop in for lunch or dinner at least once a year to sample other menu items. Thank you Saratoga! read more

I've only been here once, but I definitely plan to return based on my one and only dining experience here. I visit Terre Haute every few months and most of the time will have lunch at one of a few local restaurants. I'm vegan, and despite the fact that Terre Haute is a college town, vegan options here are far and few between. After doing some research in an attempt to find more vegan-friendly options, I landed at Saratoga. I called ahead to verify if the dishes that sounded like they would be vegan actually were, and although the employee I spoke with wasn't sure, he offered to take down my contact information and call me back. Within five minutes of hanging up the phone, he called me back and was able to clarify everything on the menu that is vegan. I was pretty impressed and felt like he went above and beyond to provide great customer service! I dined in that afternoon for lunch and had the falafel which is served in a pita with hummus, with fries and a Syrian side salad. The Syrian salad seemed exactly like a Greek salad to me, but it was delicious, as was the falafel. They also have a Jamaican black bean burger on the menu that is also vegan. My mom had the traditional beef gyro with fries and she seemed to really enjoy her meal as well. They have a spacious outdoor patio that we were able to sit at, and that definitely added to my overall experience. I would highly recommend Saratoga for anyone looking for a quality local restaurant to enjoy lunch or dinner at. I plan to return in the near future! read more

A sign on the front door saying that the dining area was closed for construction produced a confusing conversation with the hostess when I asked, "So are you serving lunch?" She said, "Not me personally," the first time I've ever had such a question taken for the "you" to mean the individual person. But in fact she did serve us our dessert personally, so even that wasn't true. The waitress, elderly, was extremely hard of hearing, but did her best. We got what we ordered, which was fried kibby, a kibby being a mixture of ground beef and grain. It was a rather dry lump. It was supposed to have shredded beef and onion inside, and it may have, but not so's you'd notice. It came with the fixings for a pita bread sandwich. read more

I stopped in for lunch since I had read a number of positive reviews on Yelp! about the lunch options. Glad I listened! The restaurant has been around for quite awhile and has two main rooms: The one on the corner features the bar and is the main dining room during the day time. The second room looks more designed for evening dining and was not open since there was a sparse crowd towards the end of the lunch period. I was greeted by the server and directed to sit where I liked. I grabbed a booth near the kitchen and ordered a bottle of beer. They do have a decent selection of beer, but the list does little to help identify the specific type of beer. Mainly, it is brand and commercial options, not representative of local craft brews which I have been leaning towards. Still, I was able to find something that suited my palate. I was looking through the menu when the waiter/greeter mentioned an Italian Beef sandwich that was the special of the day. He was also a fan of the onion rings, so I upgraded my side option to include that. There was a very brief wait for my food to arrive. The beef was served on an open bun so that I could see the green peppers and onions on the sandwich, and could add the yellow peppers presented on the side to the quantity of my choosing. The sandwich was delightfully moist and had just the right amount of meat that made it a hearty sandwich without being too difficult to bite. Definitely a good flavor leaning to the salty side of seasoning, but not too much! The highly recommended onion rings were a little disappointing. Yes, there were plenty of them and they were thin enough to not require lots of knife work to eat them. They were not greasy at all. And the onions seemed fresh and sweet. The only negative was the breading on the onion rings seemed to be flour based and lacked much seasoning, so I got a bit of a dry, flour taste. Maybe they could have been cooked a bit longer to get rid of that flavor or have added a bit more seasoning. Not bad, just not something I would go out of my way to upgrade to. Review #215 read more

We went to Saratoga while we were in town for a night. Good food, generous quantities. The pork tenderloin was huge and the kids' spaghetti and meatballs was enough for two meals. The house made chips and onion rings could use a little more salt, but everything was well-prepared and presented. We appreciated that they had outdoor seating. Often times, a business that's been handed down through generations has a difficult time maintaining consistency and quality. While George and Cathy are still extremely involved, the transition to Alexis and Dustin has gone unnoticed (except for the additional smiling faces). I just can't say enough good things about George and Cathy Azar and their staff at The Saratoga. Once a month, our group of Terre Haute Wiley (now Terre Haute South) graduates gets together for dinner there. We are all old. Our youngest is 78 and our oldest is 81. We graduated between 1956 and 1959. We live in Terre Haute, Brazil and Indianapolis. Most of us are disabled or restricted in one way or another. It's a chore for some of us even to get there, but we all enjoy it enough to make the effort. They always have a good table set up for us. George and Cathy both come around to talk to us and check on us as the evening passes. Since I never can remember from one month to another which of their red wines I like, Cathy keeps me updated and offers me suggestions and samples. The servers are very patient with those of us who have dietary restrictions, and they remember many of our preferences from month to month.
