I had been hearing about this restaurant since I first started working in Terre Haute so I finally decided to try it. It was good. I am writing about a delivery, so I can't comment on the restaurant itself. I took a star off because they did not provide any utensils or napkins in the delivery bag which made for a delayed meal since I had to go searching for a fork. The garden salad was very good. So crisp and fresh. The tomatoes were yummy, and I liked the surprise of celery amoungst the greens. The greens were mixed and not just iceberg which elevated the salad quite a bit. I always say I judge an Italian restaurant by their sauce, and this one was ok. Very sweet. Not thick. It wanted for something. I ordered the half portion of angel hair pasta, and it was still a very generous amount. I added a meatball which tasted more like an Italian sausage in a ball with a bit of spice and a chewier consistency. I wasn't mad at it, but it wasn't the seasoned ground beef crumble I expected. All in all, the meal was good, just lacking in some of things I expected from a place everyone seemed to like about it. I would probably go back and maybe try some of the other dishes next time I am in Terre Haute, if only to see if maybe it was just that order. read more

Excellent! We have loved every item we've ordered. The lemon martini is one of my favs. The calamari is fresh and comes with homemade sauce. The shrimp, fettuccine, chicken parmesan and others items, never disappointed. We have also tried about 4 different desserts and each one was fabulous. They make their own noodles and the Parmesan cheese is shaved and mixed just right. This is family owned and the service is friendly. This is a must try if you are visiting your live here. read more

Normally, we enjoy frequenting Piloni's. Today, three of us went for an early dinner and each ordered the chicken Parmesan and substituted spaghetti for the fettuccini Alfredo. I expect an up-charge but not $8.00 per plate for a dinner that costs $18.95. Apparently, you get charged for the pasta AND the sauce sub. I really wish we had known that before we ordered. The food was good, and our server was very kind and attentive. However, it will be a while before we return because we are a bit shocked. A near 50% up-charge seems pretty greedy to me. read more

I entered the lounge area and was immediately advised by Annette, that they had so many reservations so we couldn't be sat at the tables. She stated that their were two spots at the bar we could sit at and proceeded to guide me over (bf was parking the car) - I noticed their were two empty tables but when going to the bar, the second waitress stopped her and told her the bar seats were for reservations as well. This prompted Annette to tell me we would need to leave by 7, it was 5:50 at the time. I thought that was the most rudest thing to say, so I told her that would depend on how quickly the kitchen makes our food. The garlic bread and meatballs were delicious but the stroganoff was not that great - the meat was very chewy and the noodles seemed under boiled. Our tiramisu was pretty good as well but I'm sure it's not made in house. I also had the worst glass of Riesling for $9 - the brand is Kendall-Jackson and per google, that's a $16 bottle, cheap wine should not be priced as such per the glass. We agreed the meatballs were a good decision to add on or I would have felt like I had wasted $60. Honestly, it feels like I did anyways. We left around 6:30 and a couple who had been sitting next to us had already left so their were now four free seats at the bar and two empty booths - for the many reservations of course. Just to point out, the lounge area isn't big enough to hold "so many" people, theirs literally 10 tables and 6 bar chairs - where would the "so many" be seated? We agreed we would take future orders to go IF we wanted the meatballs again or to try something new but this place was out of the way, so that may not happen. read more

One of the most genuine Italian restaurants I've been to in 21 years of living. Truly amazing food, amazing service.

Sister-in-law made reservations for a wedding rehearsal dinner, spoke to management several times during the wedding planning period. Had once again confirmed earlier in the week, called the night of the rehearsal, well before the reservation time to let them know the party would be late only to be informed that the reservation had been canceled and given to Butler University. Not a way to take care of customer. Will not ever consider patronizing this restaurant! Would prefer to give zero stars but that's not an option. read more

I was visiting family and scoured Yelp for great restaurant. This place did not disappoint with the food. The atmosphere was very casual which was great with my family. They seemed to stay busy. I had the lunch Tortellini. Delicious! The lasagna got rave reviews at the table. What I did not appreciate was the SURPRISE 15% increase on pasta because of egg prices. It was not posted anywhere in the restaurant. And, when I asked about it, the server seemed ashamed. Not a big deal. Lunch was my treat so that really added up with six people but I paid it with no problem and no fuss. Still, a customer should be allowed to make informed decisions. read more

Everyone raved about this restraunt. I have ordered take out from here twice now, and I'm afraid I don't understand the hype. The eggplant parm - the eggplant was dropped in a deep fryer. You don't have to be Italian to know you don't cook eggplant in a deep fryer!! It absorbs the taste of the grease! If you are ordering take out they put you in the back by the kitchen to wait- and you will get to watch every spill, run to the cooler, and whatever else as entertainment. To their credit, they have fresh pasta. That's about the only positive I've got. read more

Pilonis is, unfortunately, a restaurant to skip. I was hoping to find another good locally owned place; there are so few in town. From the service to the bread to the entrees... none of it was good. Poorly lit, way too loud to hear my dining partner, and bland food or items swimming in oil. The bread: dry, tasteless The main dishes: fish with lemon sauce, swimming in oil, no flavor other than WAY too much lemon, and the homemade pasta was thick and gummy. There is another local Italian place in town. I recommend you go there instead. read more

Overall top quality restaurant and service. I'm not a big Italian eater but then again we look for something different each time we visit Terre Haute, and Piloni's fit that spec 100%. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant, the personal service, the authenticity of the menu, the homemade pasta, and most of all, the value. I think 4.5 stars is fair here, and rounding up to 5.0 given the value. Home runs and triples on what we ordered: bruschetta piled with chopped tomatoes and basil, good meatballs, good chicken parm, and a quality cannoli dessert. My only nitpicks, the sign says "wait to be seated" but then the staff are all busy in the kitchen. No biggie, we sat down anyway and waited for service. Once spotted, we were taken care of immediately. Another area of improvement, the styrofoam take away boxes are not recyclable. Not a deal breaker but it is noticed. The weakest part of the meal was the flat and cold breadsticks, but since they were free I'm not counting Piloni off for that, and instead will say, "Grazie per il pane, amico mio!" So while this is not a "must visit" for my trips to Terre Haute, it is a hidden gem of quality if you are hankering for authentic Italian food. I think the lunch menu has great value for what you get, and I anticipate the larger dinner portions would offer enough leftovers for a second meal. I will return and place Piloni's in my rotation of 3-4 restaurants of choice in Terre Haute. read more

Now this is a family business! You pull up and there's typically plenty of parking on the gravel lot next door. The main entrance to the restraint is right along the road, but the bar and quainter ambience seating is available in the building out back. We grabbed drinks in the bar before our reservation and carried then into the restaurant to eat. We had a very large party of 16 and they accommodated us perfectly. The place was mostly full, few walk ins grabbed a table. I drank beer, but the wine selection was of quality. I started off with the arugula salad, which was just ok. It was truly just arugula with an olive oil and apple cider vinegar dressing on top. Not quite worth ordering, almost too simple. I ordered the tomato pesto pasta with penne and added sautéed veggies to it. The tomato pesto is good. It is also brought out with breadsticks before the meal, which I probably wouldn't have ordered it as my meal if I would've know I'd already be trying it. The veggies were cooked and delicious. The penne tasted as I expected, from a box. The portions are very large here. I had over half taken home for leftovers. Had a bite of tiramisu as well - great cap to dinner! I love the family history of this place. Family photos fill the restaurants walls and you can feel the value and hard working paved path that it's come from. Overall though, my meal was pretty average. I'd certainly give it another try and test out another menu option! read more

Our daughter was visiting from Texas and we took her to one of our favorite places. We ate in a small room just off the bar, great ambiance. Our daughter order chicken parmesan which see said was great. I had gambri (shrimp) with pasta. They even went to the effort to thinly slice garlic. Great meal. I enjoy going to Piloni's for lunch. The food is usually really good. Most lunches are in the $10-13 range and include garlic bread. They have a good selection of smaller fares for lunch than the larger dinner portions. If you haven't tried it, you should. read more

I had carrot soup, broccoli and salmon. The salmon while very good was slightly undercooked for my taste. The broccoli was perfect and the carrot soup absolutely delicious. We scouted out this little gem of a restaurant yesterday after reading some of the reviews! We were gonna eat dinner here, but it was closer to a late lunch (linner as we like to call it) and that turned out to be the perfect time! It was quiet when we entered, only 2 tables had patrons and we were seated immediately. They have a huge area for curb service, and for dine in, they don't require masks but politely ask you to wear them for the safety of their employees. (We did.) For the appetizer, I ordered the Shrimp and Mussels alla Creme and the better half ordered the Baked Meatballs. Both absolutely delicious! She offered a salad with the main course, so I ordered the house salad with blue cheese dressing. Without question - hands down - the BEST blue cheese dressing I can ever remember eating - in my entire life! Oh my gravy!! For my entree, I ordered the Toretllini Alla Venetta, also very, very good. But after we ate, I realized my choice was a little too heavy for lunch. For dessert, I just HAD to have a cannoli so we ordered desserts to go. We ate the desserts in our hotel room later on and the cannoli was perfect, the right amount of sweet, the right amount of chocolate, the shell was light and flaky. Just delicious (so delicious I shoulda ordered 2!!) All in all, the best Italian food I've had in YEARS! It's not the fanciest place, staff is very "busy" despite no one in the restaurant, but it was clean and the food was outstanding. Highly recommend visiting if you're in the mood for Italian. Minimal service when we walked in, wasn't welcomed and had to speak up to tell someone we had a Mother's Day reservation. Breadsticks tasted like they were taken out of a room temperature package, topped with oil etc. and served. Mango bruschetta was overloaded, soggy, and disappointing. Barely any table service at all in between our orders -- this place was not busy at all at that moment. Long wait for main entrees. Homemade (wavy) spaghetti reminded me of soba or ramen noodles; which were not bad, but definitely clashed with the dish and I wouldn't call it spaghetti. Chicken marsala was bland and soggy. I want to say good effort because this is a small business, but man there is so much improvement needed for me to want to eat here again.
