First time at the Waynesboro location, which has no indoor seating, so of course it started to sprinkle while I was parking. Never underestimate the power of ice cream- the actual rain held off the whole time we were there. I got a sundae called the Salty Turtle for I, too, am a salty turtle. Vanilla ice cream with salted caramel, hot fudge and praline nuts. Fantastic! My Bride took a bit to decide which milkshake to get- understandable, since they have about six million options! It's just a little walk up window, so not much in the way of ambiance, but the staff were super friendly and offered my father a cup to put his cone into for the drive. I actually enjoy their flavors. They do have quite the menu as well. There are plenty of items to choose from. So the variety is nice. I'm a milkshake person. Almost every ice cream place I go to I order a milkshake. Kline's milkshakes are very disappointing. I have given them chance after chance and they don't seem to ever be any better at Waynesboro and Staunton. I'm also wondering if these young girls they have working at each of these places just haven't been trained properly on how to actually make and blend a milkshake. It's like the ice cream is just scooped and placed in the cup. That's basically what I've gotten the last few times I've ordered a milkshake from Kline's. Every time I order a milkshake I have to let it sit for 30 minutes before I even get to enjoy it. I've had to take the lid off and use a spoon to enjoy it many times. If you try sipping it through the straw when you first get it you'll probably end up hurting yourself. You should be able to enjoy a milkshake by sipping it the moment you get it. They should be smooth, not clumped up. If this was the first time it was like this I wouldn't even be writing this review, but like I said earlier it keeps on happening. Unfortunately, you pay to much for these milkshakes at Kline's for them to be like this. As a JMU alumni, I am a Big fan of Klines. Decided to stop by Waynesboro after a visit nearby for memorial day. The weather was great for some delicious custard style ice cream that Klines are known for. During this Covid-19 Pandemic, the option was to order via drive-thru only to minimize contact. Although I arrived a bit before open hour, the employee was happy to assist me with my craving. The flavor of the week was right between Banana and Raspberry which are pretty top flavors on my list. I got the large of the banana as this flavor brings back a flavor I am familiar with growing up. The building was in a nice lavender color and it looked visually pleasing. Klines always offer standard vanilla and chocolate along with shakes of any flavor you want. You can ask for a cone with your cup for no extra charge. read more

Ordered the Reese's overload. The bottom had crushed reese's cups. Then vanilla custard topped with peanut butter sauce and reese's pieces. It was good, but the amount of reese's cups at the bottom was too much for me. The ratio of candy to ice cream was definitely an overload. I wish there was more ice cream. I can see why the line was long and winding here at Kline's. Fresh, homemade ice cream, cones, sundaes, banana splits, flurries, shakes and more desserts to cool your palate. We got the hot fudge sundae and the "no sugar added" butter pecan cone. They don't have a lot of flavors, but the ones they do have are the bomb! This cool spot has been around since 1943! That's quite an accomplishment in this "here today, gone tomorrow" disposable world. So, Congrats to you Kline's!! We LOVE Kline's! The first thing to know is this is homemade ice cream, made daily. With that being said, each day they have chocolate, vanilla, and 1-2 other flavors that rotate weekly. It's worth going to their website and looking at the weekly flavor cards beforehand. However, even if they don't have your favorite flavor the day you go, they can probably make your favorite flavor in milkshake form (milkshake menu is extensive). There is a drive thru and a walk up window at the Waynesboro location (other locations in Harrisonburg, Staunton, and McGaheysville). Today (8/8/15) is National Frozen Custard Day, and since I've been procrastinating on this review, I figured this of all days would be a good day to write about Kline's Dairy Bar (KDB) in Waynesboro. Do you know where Frozen Custard was invented? Coney Island, New York back in 1919! Frozen Custard is similar to ice cream except that eggs are added to the regular cream and sugar. Not only does it make the texture smoother, it makes it stay cold longer. KDB has been using old fashion techniques since 1943. They use a very slow and labor intensive process, which produces less air in their frozen custard compared to their competitors' custard. KDB uses high quality ingredients, and each location makes their own frozen custard each day. We visited KDB during our short trip to Waynesboro. The service was friendly; we enjoyed the outdoor tables with umbrellas and benches; and the frozen custard was smooth, creamy and a perfect way to end a hot summer day. The only negative is they have very limited flavors. They always have Vanilla and Chocolate, and then they have a couple of other special flavors. That day they offered Raspberry and Oreo. Today on their website it says Mint Cookies 'n Cream and Cotton Candy (www.klinesdairybar.com). There are four KDB locations throughout the area, and they are open year-round with limited hours. And they have a drive-thru! While they might not have a large selection of flavors, the ones they have are fantastic. Today is definitely the day to get your frozen custard on! read more

Is this very, very good ice cream? Yes Is it awesome that they have a drive thru? Yes Are the girls that work there super nice and accommodating? Yes Are the prices a little steep for ice cream no matter how good it is? Yes Is this a five star establishment? Yeah, not so much simply because of the lack of flavors. The set up is really simple. We came over Easter weekend on a chilly drizzly night half expecting Kline's to be closed yet there was a decent stream of cars in the drive thru line. I "braved" the chilly rain outside only because never having been here before I wanted to get the lay of the land with flavors/options without feeling rushed with cars waiting behind me while I indecisively look at the menu board. The flavors were vanilla, chocolate, raspberry and lemon gingersnap. The obvious rub to this is that those flavors are great if you like any of them but if you're looking for something basic like a peanut butter something you're SOL unless you upgrade to a sundae or something basic like a mint chocolate chip which puts you right back in the SOL boat. We tried the vanilla, chocolate and raspberry and all were fine. Personally I did the raspberry and it certainly was good although by no means was it the best raspberry ice cream that I'd ever had simply because the flavor is more sweet/creamy versus other places that do more of a tangy-ish/tart raspberry. Don't get me wrong in that the ice cream is again very, very good it's just not a five star place simply because you need to compromise too much with the lack of flavor options versus the average local ice cream place which carries a lot more selection than just four flavors. read more

I see another girl in the back eating, on her cell phone and talking to a friend at the front window. She then provides to grab a brownie (no hand washing or gloves) and make my sundae.
