I took my first handgun skill builder course with Josh, Mike and Steven this past weekend. They were all extremely friendly and did an absolutely awesome job instructing the class. The top priority is always safety with LDC and it definitely does not go unnoticed. I truly appreciate the way that they communicated with everyone; information is very streamlined and truly a great transfer of knowledge. I will continue to take classes with LDC and recommend them to all of my friends and family! Everything from start to finish was nothing short of amazing. The 8 hours of classroom time was extremely informative with real world situations which made it relatable and fun. The information was all clearly explained which made it extremely easy to digest. I feel truly thankful for all of the assistance/coaching that I received from the entire LDC team. We had the luxury of working with Joe, Archie, Mike and Roman; they were an absolute class act all around. The time on range was extremely safe and an absolute blast. In my opinion, they truly showed how passionate they were about their craft which pushed me to improve every step of the way. They have an absolute abundance of experience and knowledge, these are the people you need to be training with! Everyone should sign up for classes through LDC a few times a year. However, I was quickly put at ease - by the instructors, but also the class. During tactical time, the instructors were watchful in the best way, ensuring that was was operating safely, and giving me 1:1 instruction to help my form. After reviewing some tendencies in my misses and minor adjustments to my fundamentals, I began to tighten up my groupings and shoot better and better. I was very impressed from my first interaction with Joe Leonardo. His team is made up of professionals with a tremendous amount of experience in law enforcement and professional firearm training. Their discipline and thoroughness permeates everything that they do, from preparing students for the class, through the running of the class, both in the classroom and on the range. The course not only instructs students in the proper use of their firearm, but includes critically important lessons regarding scenarios, proper responses, and how to think about and prepare for various scenarios. The course expanded my knowledge and capabilities significantly, but also reminded me that training is a journey vs. a destination. The most important takeaways for me were the reminder of the importance of ongoing training, proper practice, and developing and reinforcing good behaviors. I contacted Phil for private coaching to meet my specific needs. I don't need to hit any targets, I just have to look like I can - and most importantly, look cool doing it. When I saw Phil's videos on Instagram, I knew he was the right person to call. First he had me complete an online course to get a foundation on basic safety and mechanics. In person he worked with me on refining my grip, stance, and aim with two hands and one hand. I learned various ways to carry, 5 point holster draw, loading, unloading, reloading, and then shooting from the knees, from the ground, and from behind cover. Phil was very knowledgeable on how law enforcement and professionals handle their firearms vs. what they do on TV that kills the authenticity. He gave me honest feedback when I looked convincing and when I looked awkward squinting one eye and tilting my head. No one wants to see that on screen! As a recent gun owner, it was time for me to take the time to learn how to use my instrument. So,…read moremy hubby, daughter and I decided to take Kevin's course in collaboration with Prof Jeff Macalolooy of Dragons Den MMA. They taught us how to disarm weapons and handle firearms. It is a 6-hour course which I thought was going to be waaaay too long, but it went by at a nice clip. It included 3 hours in the classroom where Kevin discussed, in an engaging and often hilarious manner, "firearm history, laws, safety and proper handling." Jeff then led us through hand-to-hand combat and how to disarm an attacker. I appreciated this as a woman, as every woman should have a rudimentary idea of how to protect herself. We then spent three hours on the range. As someone who has never really handled a handgun before, it was intimidating to fire so many rounds but to also be around people who were more familiar with a gun than I was. To Kevin and Jeff's credit, they taught us in a manner that both beginners and more seasoned shooters could understand. As a beginner, I needed extra support. Thankfully, having two instructors made all the difference: one (Kevin) could keep the main group moving at a steady pace, while the other (Jeff) could devote more time to reinforcing weak spots and helping a newbie like me work through any lingering hesitation. Jeff really helped me in this area. There was a point where I felt like giving up (partly because I couldn't draw my gun fast enough with the new holster that I bought), so Jeff switched mine out and provided me with a holster that solved that problem. Indeed, any issue I might have had was addressed and resolved. I am now looking forward to the women's only training course they will offer in August, as I believe that will allow me to feel less intimidated and will continue to bolster my confidence in weapon disarms and firearm handling.
