    chocolate covered donuts
    Jimmy C.

Went to Renninger's Flea Market for a look around at what Mount Dora had to offer. There were the typical flea market wares: coins, knives, antiques, furniture, tools, produce, candy and trinkets from all over. But there was this one smell that was pervasive throughout the main building. People were drawn like moths to a flame to this aroma. It smelled like fresh baked heaven. Then we turned a corner and there they were; little morsels of doughy deliciousness glistening fresh out of the fryer and ready to be topped with our choice of toppings. Cinnamon and sugar? Sure! Powdered sugar? Ok! Warm chocolate sauce? Why yes, please! These doughnuts aren't just good. They are intoxicating. We ordered a dozen for 3 of us and quickly got back into line after we each had our first one, realizing we had under ordered by about 10 dozen. The owner was in the shop making the donuts fresh, and was more than willing to accommodate our persnickety requests. If I am ever in Mount Dora, FL, again, I WILL go to Renninger's just for these donuts. Worth the trip. 5 stars.

This time, he got there a little earlier and was able to pick the ones we really wanted. By latest 11am, they are usually gone (it's a food truck). Super yummy fresh donuts. I loved the one with cinnamon sugar and the kids loved the sprinkle and fruity pebbles ones. My husband said service was great also. We will be back. I really want to try the red velvet cake one in the future.

I'll just wait for them to come to me." Well... I finally caved and got tired of waiting. First off, I'm not a morning person... so the whole "donuts and coffee" at 8am isn't my thing. I was not too thrilled about having to wake up at 6am just to be able to get to try the flavors I wanted before they were all sold out. (FYI: You can order ahead online, but that option can sell out fast too) Also, I'll take a bad yeast donut over a good cake donut any day. Those extravagant Voodoo doughnuts over at Universal are no match for a plain old Krispy Kreme donut straight off the conveyer belt in my humble opinion. This food truck is all cake donuts, so I was a bit skeptical. I'm happy to say, these donuts are insanely good. There were 22 flavors available, and we ordered them all. The most popular, "frosted crack" and "maple bacon", were definitely 2 of my favorites. Simple flavors, yet so delicious. The "French Toast" and the "Cookie Butter" were also high up on my list of must-tries. Even something as conventional as the "chocolate with sprinkles" was friggin amazing. I'm pretty sure it all had to do with the fact that none of these felt like the typical cake donut you would find at Dunkin Donuts. They were way more light and airy than usual. It was almost a mix between a yeast donut and a cake donut, and they were tremendous. It also might have to do with the fact that they were all just freshly made. That also makes a huge difference. What I like about this place is that they don't go overboard with toppings. They just let the flavors do the talking. They don't just throw crushed-up snickers bars, skittles, and whole Oreos on top for the hell of it. They keep it more traditional, and I like that. Makes them way easier to eat as well. The people in the truck themselves are very friendly. The guy that helped us seemed really proud of his product, as he should be. They even have complimentary Starbucks coffee for people as they waited. With a long line at 8 in the morning, it was very much appreciated. Overall, this small and unassuming food truck in the middle of a dirt lot in Mt. Dora ended up having some of the best donuts I've ever tried. Tons of flavors, yet a simplistic theme runs through all of them... flavor. Every bite feels like it's worth the carbs, and I love that. They look great, and taste even better. My only negative about this place is that it's not closer... but that's just me being selfish.

I tried the Mango Passionfruit Tea and the Strawberry Passionfruit Tea, and both were absolutely delicious! The flavors were bold and refreshing without being too sweet. I asked if you can adjust your sweetness level - and they said yes (yay). I asked if they offered any non-dairy milk and they said yes they offer almond and oat. So I said I'd have Oat milk in my Taro Milk Tea. I also asked for it at 50% sweetness. The girl said that I didn't have a milk option on the Taro because it isn't made with any milk - she said it's just powder and water. I was like - WHAT???!! How can you have Milk Tea with no milk - she said she didn't know. Um...well okay. I ordered my friend a Mango Passionfruit Tea with Mango popping boba at 50% sweetness. The other thing is that they don't use the traditional lids that are applied with a machine and you poke your straw through them. They use hard plastic lids that have a hole for the straw - much less fun in my opinion, but definitely not a deal breaker. Both our drinks were still really sweet. I would go down to 20 or 30% sweetness if I were to try it again. My friend liked the Mango tea but thought it was really sweet - she couldn't finish it. Mine was just okay - I love Taro Milk tea and I'm use to it being made in a more traditional way. I thought their tapioca pearls were decent. I've read reviews where people say they're over or under cooked, but I found them just fine that day. They do offer Asian snacks at the store also - Sweet Potato Kit Kats, Sweet Chili Noodle cups, Hello Panda snacks, HiChews, etc. May give them another try if I'm in Mount Dora again, but try a different drink.

They have all the breakfast items you can imagine and a whole bunch of lunch and dinner options as well. Their menu continues to expand. We, of course, went for breakfast and had our choice of eggs and bacon and grits and pancakes ... but what stood out for me was the biscuits and gravy and the SOS. If you don't know what SOS stands for, look it up... it's a great breakfast item. The SOS is not the same as the biscuits and sausage gravy because that is sausage gravy, the SOS has chipped beef in gravy and usually will come on toast, but I prefer it with the biscuits. I asked for my eggs over easy and they were just right. The side of grits comes in a small bowl which is a good portion for one person and the pancakes were humongous - a very good size for two pancakes and golden brown... I ended up sharing with my wife. We were very happy with the service that they gave us and one of the managers came around to see if everything was good or if we needed anything and we really appreciated that. This is a very down to earth place where it feels like home. It's a great place to bring the family, and we did see a lot of people with their kids, but, we also saw couples like myself and my wife sharing some good coffee or sweet tea and loving life. We are definitely coming back because I wanna try the teriyaki chicken plates and I'm very interested in the shrimp and scallops.
