Idk bout the other reviews but Knuckleheads is the BEST shop in Madison. Prices are fire and so is the THCA. The employees are freaking awesome! They take their time to explain stuff and be nice and always a team of people so you're never going to have a hard time finding help. People complaining about coils and vapes not being right. There's hundreds of selections! If ur so big into vaping you should know what ur getting. Anyway I highly recommend. I go in everyday almost. The worst customer service I've ever seen in a smoke shop. As soon as I walked in I had two people in my face and they kept asking me what I wanted. I've never been in a smoke shop and not been allowed to look around. I was in there for 5 minutes and the dark-skinned owner of the place was the rudest person I've ever encountered. I'm black myself so I can't even say it was racist or anything. I just wanted to check the shop out and see the vibe but they're definitely wasn't one. I've come here a few times and had okay experiences. However I came here yesterday with my friend. The workers seemed annoyed that we entered the store and interrupted their conversation. And when my friend asked for what she wanted the worker practically chucked the item at her and stormed off. I was really taken aback and my friend's feelings were kind of hurt by it. Worst head shop in Madison. Employees have no idea what they're talking about: selling me the wrong coils ensuring they'll work. Guess what? They didn't and no refunds! I got scczzzz scammed. Props. I've gone to Knuckleheads on numerous occasions, usually to pick up cigars or various other accessories. Gotta say, it's not a place I recommend going out of your way to visit, especially with having to find parking somewhere downtown. If you're walking around State Street anyway and fancy yourself a nice smoke, it's definitely worth popping in to check out their selection. Otherwise, you can find the same stuff most other places. As many have said before, the employees at Knuckleheads are either an absolute delight, or they make you feel like you're the biggest inconvenience they've ever had to deal with, and that they can't believe someone would dare to walk into their store and buy something. They also have a terrible habit of not being able to handle one customer at a time, and will frequently walk away or start talking to someone else in the middle of a transaction. Not sure what's so difficult about just saying "Hey, I'll be right with you, let me just finish up here." I get that it's mostly college kids working there, but come on. read more

I have lived in Madison for years and Knuckleheads has always been a staple on State St. I recently started to vape and looked to the manager of the vape counter Therin to give me some suggestions. He is easily the single most informed guy about vapes in three states. He got me a setup that fit my needs perfectly and even gave me a surprise military discount (in the course of the conversation my past service came up) that I didn't even know they offered. I've since been back weekly to buy juice and coils. I'm also really looking forward to him teaching me to wrap my own coils so I can save a few bucks. With as many options as there are on State Street alone, customer loyalty is the key to survival. Therin builds real relationships; strangers enter, friends are made, customers acquired. When I'm in Madison, this is where I usually go if I'm in need of some emergency hookah supplies just because of it's convenient location on State Street. I can't really speak on behalf of the other things they sell since I'm only interested in hookah, so take this review for what it is. I've been here several times now, and while the service has always been awesome, the selection (for hookah related things) is pretty sub-par. I've had to pick up a new hose here before and the options are pretty standard, just the cheap made-in-China kind; same with bowls -- all ceramic. They only sell one brand of quick light coals (in two different sizes) and one kind of coconut ones (and I'm not entirely sure what brand since they were in an unmarked package). Shisha wise, it's a lot of Fantasia in the 50g boxes -- not my favorite on the market, but they do have a wide variety with some pretty unique/fun flavors. With that being said, I think the prices are pretty reasonable and they have a good selection of juice if vaping is more your thing. The staff is always willing to help and answer questions and are good at making small talk too. In a pinch, I'd definitely be back again. read more

Stopped in with my partner so he could get some nicotine juice for his vaporizer. We happened to go on black Friday and there were good sales going on. We were immediately approached and offered assistance. They had a wide variety of VJ juice and my boyfriend was able to find some unique, locally made ones that he is enjoying quite a bit. Today I was rung up by a female with dark hair who was short with me and spent an unnecessary amount of time looking at my very obviously real driver's license after I mentioned I was parked illegally. Knuckleheads has a eclectic staff that usually knows their stuff well and will be happy to share their opinions on their products, presuming you don't come in on a day when they've got one of their more gruff and unwelcoming employees working the register. I can really appreciate the guy who went on a long rant about how his favorite rolling papers were the best ever and why you should choose certain lengths and thicknesses of paper. I don't appreciate the guy who hates his job and, when I ask for recommendations, grumbles and says "I don't know. Do you want it or not?" The selection, while somewhat limited (no bongs, for example), is pretty good for a shop of this size and is by far the most reasonably priced on State Street. I haven't really found a headshop anywhere in Madison that sells truly good glassware, which is surprising for this city. But I can vouch for the fact that there are some great cheap accessories, cigarettes are reasonably priced, and though government interference thins out the selection all the time, they still maintain a respectable variety of brands. read more

My body was shaking. My knees were quaking. I had not touched nicotine in hours. Turn my painful day into one of hope? Certainly not Ian's pizza, they don't sell nicotine products and their pizza is overpriced. Unrelated, and don't get me wrong, Ian's pizza is fantastic, but who in the world needs to spend $4.50 on a slice of pizza? A square inch of human skin is $10 on the black market, you're telling me that two slices at Ian's are worth the price of skin? Okay, my bad, I got sidetracked. Well anyways, I walked up a small, congested stairway and entered what seemed like heaven. There was so many juul pods I almost had a nic overload. I'm talking 90,000,000 level nic. Not only that, but they had mad CBD products. I was in awe. I could feel my muscles relaxing and the pain in my joints instantly going away by the sheer amount of CBD in the store. Just kidding, CBD does nothing. Anyways, I bought a pack of pods, popped it into my juul, and puffed away. The cashier had a beard. I thought to myself, "Wow, the cashier has a nice beard". 3 reasons why I'll never go here again: 1. Bought a source vape pen kit from this place. Everything was fine besides one coil was DOA. I called the store and they tried to tell me I was lying and that they'd MAYBE SELL me a new one for a discounted price. They sell junk and don't stand by their products. The coil was unused and nothing was ever put into it - BRAND NEW and DIDN'T WORK. I didn't even bother to go back to try to get a replacement. I took the loss. 2. Called about a product posted on their webpage that they sell in the store; A Herbal detox drink. I was asking how much it costs. The person hung up on me and said nothing. If you sell ILLEGAL PRODUCTS how is that my fault and how is that grounds for being absolutely rude? There is a whole page on their website advertising what I asked about. I'll never go back to this store. 3. The store is crawling with rude employees who think it's OK to be loaded while on the job and not be able to function or give any customer service what so ever. Most bogus place I ever walked into. Its not a medicinal dispensary in a legal state. Quit pretending to be cool. I don't know how you people even have a job. I go to Knuckleheads to buy some hookah coals and flavors. Everything is fine, just usual rudeness/swearing/whatever, until I get rung up and he sees my last name. Manager: "Are you German? Your name looks German." Me: "The name's German, yeah." Manager: "Ich bin ein Berliner! I am a jelly doughnut." Me: "Well, maybe he meant to say that." Manager: "When he got shot his head did explode like a a gushing jelly doughnut. Good thing Jackie was wearing pink." Me: "Oh, that's terrible." Manager: "Too soon? How about a Holocaust joke?" Me: "Um, I think I'll leave before you break out the Holocaust jokes." Manager: "What do you call a black Jew? ...At the back of the oven." I returned the items, saying I wouldn't give money to a store that tells its customers jokes like that. He refunded the money, but wasn't apologetic. Stopped in yesterday for the first time. The guy working there sold me the wrong thing, which I didn't realize till I got home. Called the store back and the same guy told me they had the right product there. Went back to the store and bought it.Came home and realized it was still the wrong thing. Emailed the store but haven't heard back yet. I'll update my review and give more stars if they get me the right product and give some consideration for my hassle. Walk-in humidor was well-stocked though I did not detect the familiar "closeness" that a humidor's humidifier creates. A broad selection of top brands was available. Prices ranged from about $5 a stick (for low-end brands) to about $18/stick for top of the line stuff. The median price range was about $7 to $10. The staff seemed cordial though a bit distracted and not particularly helpful. I would probably only resort to this shop on a "plan B" basis. read more

I just got a terrific glass pipe for my nephew and a couple of cigars for my brother....it's a great place to buy your smoke stuff because the staff is so very helpful and it's a great place for finding many accessories or gifts from tee shirts to incense to cigars to scales and lots of other stuff that one might use.....I love that humidor contrary to the other review I've found that it's well maintained. Maybe he/she was in the store on an offday or night....I was there after dinner and had a great time spending some change. read more

It's a small place, but you can't beat the customer service. They're always super helpful and do not waste your time. They get to the point and help with your selection. However, they also are not pushy. They let you look without interfering if you tell them that you're just looking. They don't stare at you as you browse either, which is a definite plus. Many times small stores can make me feel uncomfortable because I feel like they're watching me. Not the case here. They are really chill. This is my go to place. read more

Honestly has to be the best smoke shop in Madison. They have a fricken huge selection of everything, they really push that their glass is local and USA made (and they're honest about the things that aren't which is very refreshing as a consumer). I've been in Madison a few years now and I've noticed that their staff and consequently the vibe of the store has changed dramatically. I go up there for random needs like cigs and incense and papers and the staff is really nice and will acknowledge that you've been there before; they also plug this local sandwich place Cheba Hut by giving out $1 off coupons which is a plus. I've never purchased a big-ticket item from them (because I'm a broke working gal) but they constantly have random sales which is tight. And they'll take off change or tax or just give 10% off here and there for no reason which is cool! Love this joint. read more

IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING SHOPPING HERE PLEASE READ THIS I recently had the worst customer service experience in my life, I purchased of an item that appeared to be in working condition; however after bringing it home I noticed marking (subdermal breaks) in the glass, which I've come to learn means the product will be breaking soon. Before I had the chance to bring it in, while putting the product into a padded case it broke exactly on the line. Total time: 12 hours. Now this was custom made by their glass blower, so I brought it back expecting them to understand that sometimes custom stuff isn't made the best so rectification is necessary, but that's not what I got. Instead I was dismissed, refused any semblance of help from employees, and told to get the f*** out of the store, leading me to file a dispute claim with my credit card. Later I returned to give them another chance to fix the product allowing me to redact the claim, however I was immediately met with rudeness, followed by attacks on my character and moral being for simply trying to get this worked out. This culminated in an employee hollering and cursing me out to the point where I no longer feel safe in this store. I urge you, before shopping here read this review, don't end up in the situation I'm in. Don't be afraid to pay a little extra for good customer service. read more
