Spectacular wines, warm and inviting service, with stunning views of rolling hills, gardens and even hummingbirds, Knudsen Vineyards took the win for best wines on our recent stay in Dundee. Of the 5 wines in the flight, I loved four, purchased 3, and I'm considering becoming a member. The wines were that good. We came a few days before Memorial Day to beat the crowds, which sounds unusual after 14 months of semi isolation due to Covid, but since wineries require appointments, we wanted to visit the top five on our list. Thanks to my fellow Yelpers who pointed me to Knudsen; let me pay it forward by recommending Knudsen to others, without hesitation. Damian greeted us warmly upon arrival and had our flights already set up in main light filled room by the window overlooking the patio and gorgeous rolling hills. It was a day of repeatEd stretches of sunshine then downpours, so rather than take a chance, he recommended that we sit indoors. The view was so beautiful it was an easy compromise. Let the tasting begin! Not only was each wine described by its origins and tasting notes, we learned a lot about the history of Knudsen, the first commercial wine producer in Dundee Hills, back when they were Knudsen-Erath. Their picturesque vineyards are the image of the Oregon Wine Lovers license plate! Wow! There is even a canvas of this image hanging on the wall. Plus Knudsen license plate frames for the taking. While I'm not giving up my Portland Trailblazer's plate, the wine country design would be my 2nd option. The first wine we tasted was a Chardonnay, something I rarely drink or like, but immediately fell in love with theirs and knew I would buy a bottle. The 2018 Double Gold, with flavors of lemon, apricot, honey and vanilla was silky and smooth. Typically Pinot Noir is too light for my preference but their 2019 Backstor blew me away. Deep and rich, it was my favorite. Recently bottled, it was only available to purchase there. The 2018 Double Gold was also bold with hints of chocolate ganache and spice. Bought a bottle of this, too! We finished the tasting with the 2017 Reserve, another winner, tastes of raspberry and plum. In all, I loved 4 of the 5! Bottles are on the pricier side so becoming a member is definitely worth it. As we were finishing, the outside patio and side room were filled, although socially distanced appropriately. Now that the warmer weather is here, they have music on the outdoor patio some late afternoons. The patio is positioned up high with the best views of the vineyards and makes a lovely setting. I'll definitely be back to enjoy music, fine wine and a phenomenal view! This was my first time here and it easily became one of my favorite wineries in the area. The wine itself is stellar. Then add the warm, friendly and informative service plus gorgeous views of rolling hills of grape vines, it's the perfect place to relax, unwind, and feel like your a million miles away!

Absolutely gorgeous winery. It is so secluded and has beautiful views... and the wine is great too! The service is amazing and everyone is so friendly- they clearly know a lot about wine and love talking about it. This place is especially great if you love Pinot noir!

Gorgeous drive to get here... the view from the patio is fabulous. But a bottle of what you enjoyed the most versus paying for the testing. There are 2 tasting options and we each did different options so we could try it all. There is also some good choices to try abs enjoy a great afternoon

Beautiful view from the top of the hill and friendly service. We bought a couple bottles of the reserve as it was tender to the tongue. We enjoyed the young woman serving us that was attending a local college to become sommelier.

We were fortunate enough to have Paige Knudsen lead our hike, which made it even better - hearing family stories along with learning about the vineyard.

It looks like a castle inside, something you'd never expect for being in the countryside in Oregon. It was breathtaking. Michael was our server and was awesome. He poured us a lot of fun side-by-sides, which is such a cool way to taste because it allows you to compare flavors and learn more about personal preference. He spent time and effort making sure we had fun, but also that we learned something. We were there for a long time, so don't book anything after (or close after). I would say skip the food here too. The only downside, which doesn't even merit the loss of a star, is the purchasing wine. We got two bottles, and had to go to another building to grab them. It was odd, we waited in what looked like someone's office. There were about 10 other people waiting in there with no employees or sign that anyone knew we were there. After like 15 min, we knocked on a door, and maybe 5 after that, someone started bringing orders out. Really weird system. I can see it for cases, but it was weird to have to spend 20 min in an auxillary building to grab one bottle.

Would definitely recommend as a top activity to do just outside of Portland. I highly recommend either starting or ending your day there by visiting the gift shop, trying the various olive oils (with olives they grow there! Fun fact: the arbequina is what Salt & Straw uses in their olive oil ice cream) and vinegars. They have unique seasonings and salts and tons of lovely dish wares. You can even visit the nursery portion and take home your own olive tree! 10/10 experience every single time and the membership is totally worth it! Plus they're dog friendly!

Durant Vineyard is absolutely stunning and packs quite a punch!…read more HISTORY & INNOVATION: The Durant family are pioneers in the Oregon viticulture world and became one of the first to plant vineyards in the Willamette Valley in 1973. Roughly 80% percent of their grapes are sold to other wineries, and they created their own wine label in 2003. They are one of the largest olive oil producers in the PNW, supplying the olive oil for Portland-based Salt & Straw's Arbequina Olive Oil Ice Cream. Their hilly property also has different farming blocks at different elevations with unique soil conditions and microclimates, which adds to the complexity of their wines and grapes. SCENIC VIEWS: Durant is perched in the Dundee Hills, and their outdoor seating area offers sweeping views of the Williamette Valley as well as their beautiful property. ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES: The vineyard also includes a gift shop, plant nursery, expansive gardens, a nature trail, event spaces, and more. During my recent visit with two friends, we did a wine flight in their outdoor seating area, ordered the charcuterie board, walked on the nature trail, and ended our visit in the gifted shop where we tasted their fused olive oils. They were so flavorful and robust that I bought a three-pack to bring home with me. The weather was beautiful during our visit, service was top notch, and I thoroughly enjoyed the overall visit to Durant! - - - - - - - - - - - Note for Areas of Improvement: One of my friends--a white woman--intended to purchase several items from the gift shop, but she was offended and decided not to when an employee assumed she was our tour guide. While I'm sure the employee did not have malicious intentions, his comment still had a negative impact on her as a mother of interracial children. I'm noting this with the hope that these uncomfortable situations can be avoided in the future.
