This was literally the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. The service was horrible as was the food. I honestly couldn't tell you which was worse. 2 staff members had their masks pulled down & one didn't have it covering their nose. Everything about this place is wrong. If this is a genuine Kobé Steakhouse then they should be ashamed! None of the staff were in uniform, or knew what was going on. Many were unkempt. We waited... And waited.... And waited and were ignored as more people came through the door. There were employees sitting around everywhere and (I'm assuming) a chef can out from the kitchen while still eating and started asking about who was there first... The facility itself was dingy and dirty looking and we hadn't even made it past the register! This place looks like somewhere one would pick up local Chinese takeout, not the upscale and private atmosphere you expect at a legitimate Kobé Restaurant. My wife and I regularly dine out at kanki but we didn't want to drive that far so we decided to give it a try. Our sushi was good and the entry was good. The lettuce in my salad was a little warm and the miso soup was bland and was not hot enough. The waitress didn't service the table well after the cook arrived. Not only did we wait a while for refill but so did the other 6 people at our table. I could see the kitchen from my seat and I saw the wit staff on serval occasions playing with their cell phones and joking around rather than checking on us. I have never been more disappointed with a restaurant. I've never felt the need to leave a negative review for a restaurant before, but for this I decided to create an account. The service was basically non-existent, the waitress had the personality of a lamp post. She was rude, we waited for her to take our order for what seemed like forever, the appetizer was horrible, over cooked and the taste matched the over cooking. We told the waitress about this and she shrugged. The table was disgusting. It was sticky and covered in some type of red liquid. Our orders were wrong and when we stated this to the waitress she assured me that they were correct. She stated that the chef stated it was correct, then told me she would bring the chef out, they never came. We waited for 15 minutes.The ordered were not correct. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. No one I dealt with was pleasant in any way. If I could leave zero stars I would. read more

And I've been to some well known places. Yes, the decor in the place is oooold. The whole place should be shut down, cleaned from end to end and then refurnished with new equipment. And the cashier was very informal, coming over to collect our payment at the hibachi table - but never introduced herself, and we waited until our waitress vouched for her before we turned over cards and/or cash to her. We stopped to eat on Friday night about 7:20PM. We were told there was about a 30 minute wait. Almost one hour later a family of 10 or 12 came in and were seated before us. They didn't wait. We confronted the receptionist which we were told was the manager and she gave us the story that she had told that family to wait in their cars. There was no one in any of the cars when we pulled in an hour earlier. She apologized and showed me that their name was above ours. She told us it would be about 10 more minutes before we would be seated and then we'd have to wait on a chef which would be about 10 to 15 minutes. We called her out and told her we believed she was lying to us and the other family were friends of hers. We told her she was lying because there were no cars with people in them. She said she could give us half off but we'd still have to wait 10 to 20 minutes. My husband was fed up and we left. WE WILL NEVER GO TO THIS LOCATION AGAIN AS LONG AS SHE IS THE MANAGER. If you go..check who is above your name and make them write down the time by your name. And this wasn't our first visit. We've been going for years. It's gradually gotten worse the past 2 years. Too bad they don't have a better manager. Maybe chefs like Fat Boy would have stayed around and made it better. read more

Forgive me for repeating myself, but like I said before million times, customers are not shoes. Sometimes they do not come in neatly assembled pairs. Yes, there was six of us with a baby. To be more correct, two children and 5 adults. Apparently our server was a strong believer in a shoe theory of customer service and upon seen us, not English speaking and hungry, he suddenly felt like an American tourist in Parisian airport - surrounded and misunderstood. Hibachi was closed, because Hibachi cook was taking his siesta on the booth next to us ( loudly snoring). We didn't mind. They do work a lot, and since restaurant is open at 11, it absolutely makes sense to stop frying things at 14 45 and restart at 1700. Those who come in between stay Hibache-less. Such is life. We get it. I didn't expect the level of mastery of Hibachi cook from our server, but when he showed up with five little bowls of soup with his big fingers all in the broth, we gagged. Dude, it's your body part in my egg drop soup. Tell me what god to pray to get me some patience to get over this, We are the foreign saints. We ate the soup. Next there was a couple of obviously fake Hibachi dishes overwhelmed by huge chunks of undercooked onions. Yum. Why three stars? Well sushi were really outrageously delicious. I secretly wish we ordered just them. Entire 1445 to 1700 should be called a SUSHI HOUR. Should I even mention that there was no crayons offered to a really bored 6 year old who had to count silverware and breadcrumbs in broken English in order to stay entertained and focused. We did have a better experience here before, and do plan to return. We'll be looking for a well-rested Hibachi cook and server with very small hands please. read more

Not a good experience. Food was mediocre and unsafe! Hope we don't get sick. The chef put the chicken on the grill then immediately (using the same spatula) rolled my scallops around with it. When I questioned it, he wiped the spatula off and continued cooking with it. The waitress brought the manager and I explained. They cooked my scallops fresh in the kitchen, but he continued cooking the rest of the food with the "raw chicken" spatula. After the meal I spoke to the manager again. He still acted like it wasn't a big deal. :( read more

Our waitress was brand new and wasn't trained well at all. She was so nervous herself she was giving me anxiety. I ordered tea and it was so stale I asked for Dr Pepper instead and she refused to take the tea off my bill. I've never heard of that before. Their food was okay. Soup was terrible. This is a decent restaurant. It serves the purpose of a hibachi or sushi fix, but it's certainly not a fine dining experience. The hibachi is ok enough but stay away from the shrimp (consistently tastes like it's either overcooked, think tire, or just old poor quality frozen shrimp). The one time I tried their salmon it had to be sent back because it was literally bad. As in they served old bad meat. Disgusting. Their sushi is not the best either but for a small town like Smithfield, you won't find anything better. Some rolls are tasty enough but it's typically hit or miss. Overall if you're looking for Japanese this will do the job. Just don't expect a 5 star experience. read more

Ok, so we had reservations for 7:00 pm....We had a party of 21. We had a private room reserved for my grandmother's 79th birthday....We picked this place because Smithfield is central to the whole family that are spread out across North Carolina. The wife and I came from Fayetteville and got there early....at 6:30. We went in and went to the bar to get a beer to kill some time. I ordered two draft Bud Lights for my wife and I. We were served and the bartender said the price...I think it was like $5.25total, which its reasonable for a Japanese steak house, so I pulled out a $20.00 bill and gave it to the bartender. She looked at me wierd and then disappeared. She had to go to the hostess to pay for the beers. I asked her when she got back "Do you guys not have a cash register at the bar?...She replied...We used to, but people were stealing, so the owner said no more cash at the bar...uh..WTF??...upon seeing my receipt, it stated "Pint of beer"...i thought this was odd because the beer they served my could not have been more than 10. oz. Again I questioned the bartender, and she apologized and said.,"for some reason the owner doesn't allow us to put bud light in a pint glass..again..WTF? So anyway I got my beer and went to the hostess to tell her that we are the first ones here from our party and gave them our name....She seemed unamused and replied.."when the rest of your party gets here we will take care of you...ok?. So the rest of my party...all 21 of then get there right art 700........We tell the hostess we are here, and she says....sorry, but we are serving someone in the room now..(What the heck are reservations for?)...So we mingled a at the bar and were promptly seated for our 7:00-reservations at 7:45. Again we had 21 people in our party, one waiter came to get our drink and food orders...nice guy and I'm sure through no fault of its own as there were so many of us we got our drinks at 815. About 15 minutes later our cook shows up...as we had two tables, he started cooking for half of its...it seemed odd, but ok...We were literally done with our food when another cook came for the other half of our party. That being said...the food was delicious and our cook was very entertaining. My overall review of this place is it its extremely mismanaged..all the employees seemed to have contempt for the non present ownership..I personally will never go back. read more

We did not sit down for the hibachi, only because I have seen them so many times that I probably could do it myself. Instead we sat near the bar and we ordered the salmon dinner, unagi don, dynamite, California and surf clam roll. The rolls sort of fell apart, which irritates me a little. I can say that they had a very generous portion of eel, probably the best tasting fish you can eat with rice and the salmon was a little dry. Perhaps a little overcooked. While catching up with a friend I hadn't seen in months in Smithfield, we ended up at Kobe and were extremely happy with our service. What was funny to us was that we had gotten there at about 4:40 pm and did not know that the restaurant didn't reopen until 5pm! So when we were finally inside, we were seated immediately and had a wonderful waitress named Kaprise. She was funny and on top of our table. We ordered, received our drinks, and soup less than 5 mins after we were seated, as did the people who walked in and were seated at our table. I ordered steak and chicken which was great. Our cook whose name I don't remember (sorry!) was very engaged and made conversation while he cooked before leaving us to enjoy our meal. Our drinks were never empty and every need we had was taken care of. I definitely recommend this place. read more
