My boyfriend and myself went to eat in tonight we sat at the bar. The food was great, calamari cooked perfectly and we both got spicy gyros, they were also perfectly sauced and had tender meat. The only reason this restaurant Is receiving a 3 star is based on bar service. The bartender frequently checked her phone, and stayed on the opposite side of the bar, with her regulars. When I was looking for another drink she didn't come by, even when I pushed my glass away from me. Only when my boyfriends glass was empty did she offer us another round. From the outside, Koble seems very sophisticated and alluring. On the inside, it is very chaotic and hard to understand. You have to make your way to the back of the restaurant to place your order, and then sit down to wait for your food. The food was excellent and the hummus was superior, but I enjoy being able to browse the menu fully before making my choice. I felt rushed with choosing my entree and I felt like the waitresses didn't care. The food was great, though. read more

There are many things in this world that I do not understand. The fact that this place is open and people in fact come here would be one of those things. We came in here to eat basically because we came to Westerville to eat and we just randomly walked into this place. First of all combination restaurants are a sure way to do more than one theme and do neither one of them well. First the ordering. It has been covered in previous reviews but it is really a poor set up. You need to wait for a table and then once seated you have to walk to the back to wait through another line to order. Not only is there another line where you order, there is no room to stand and you are in the middle of the wait and bar staff bringing food and dirty dishes by every 30 seconds. Also once you order and have to get a drink, yet another line. Poor, poor poor. Didn't anyone put any effort into designing this? We were dining with another couple. We each ordered entrees and appetizers. We intended for all of us to share both appetizers. Their appetizer came promptly, ours came 20 minutes later when their entrees arrived. Immediately after that our entrees arrived. Since you have to order and pay in advance you are basically all in and stick with the food and experience no matter how poorly they are executed. If we hadn't already paid I would have sent our uneaten appetizers back. On to the food. The other couple got gyros and they looked pretty good. I got the salmon and pasta and my wife got the stuffed peppers. Neither one of our entrees was good. I also learned that pasta tossed in sauce means pasta in a bowl drowned in sauce. Yuck. Also just where was that spinach. Want a drink? Good luck with that as you will need to get up, fight your way to find a spot to get a bartenders attention and wait once again. I wonder if anyone actually tries to do that more than once during a visit. Value - zero stars. We paid over $40 for food we could have gotten for half the price at the Acropolis. All this being said they seemed to be doing a brisk business and as I said when I started this post, I have no idea why. My conclusion is there is no compelling reason to go here. Counter ordering. Boo. Had a 10 minute wait, turned into 20 because hostess thought that while we were standing by the bar meant that we were eating by the bar and crossed off the list. Then we found out about the counter order theme. Trip one to the back wall, order appetizer. Trip 2 to the back wall, order dinner. Excuse me waitress? How do I get a drink here? Waitress: ummm... Well... You can go to the bar or go to the back counter and order a drink... Trip three to the back wall: order drinks Dinner comes. Food was good. Trip 4 for the Wall: I took my number to the bar and waited for the bartender or someone to walk by that look like they could do something. Bartender: can I help you? Me: i'm waiting for my drinks I ordered 10 minutes ago, number 15, see? She goes to the back wall herself and discusses something privately with someone who I assume would be a manager/owner. This person comes over to me two minutes later. Manager: can I help you? Me: i'm just waiting for my drinks Manager: Oh? What can I get for you? Me: (isn't this the bartenders job, she has to make the drinks anyways, and I just told her two minutes ago?) Glass of wine and a beer I say Family is more than half done eating dinner by the time I sit down. Family is done eating, i'm halfway done. our drinks come - delivered by the manager. Manager: Hear are your drinks. Sorry about the wait the next round is on us. Me thinking: if you wanted to make it better refund our money for the drinks that you screwed up. Horrible experience. Horrible concept with counter ordering and partial waitress service. Why would someone even consider tipping? Tipping is the result of whether you had a good or bad experience. If I tip before I get my food and get served, what is the incentive for the establishment to make it right? I'm calling the bank tomorrow to reverse my charges for the tips. Probably a fine establishment if you want to get a carry out, like I said, the food was good. But I can make better food at home, I pay for an experience. This one sucks balls. read more

My wife and I decided to try Westerville's newest eatery since we both had heard a lot of positive chatter about it. We were not disappointed. The staff-although new and in training-was very friendly and helpful. Portions were large and reasonably priced. After we placed our order at the register, we were served at our table in ten minutes. The food was hot, artfully presented, and very good in terms of ingredient quality and flavor. My wife was very pleased with her Greek salad and chicken gyro. My huge bowl of Venus Shrimp Pasta in lemon butter garlic sauce was outstanding with several large shrimp. The decor-a bit on the rustic side-was quite attractive and comfortable. The snazzy center bar will undoubtedly become a popular after hours destination. All in all, a very enjoyable first-and certainly not last-visit. read more

This is my first time ever eating a Gyro. I always thought they seemed weird. I'm a double cheese burger or pizza kind of guy usually. But I tried my first one tonight and I must say it is awesome! The meat is so interesting and I like the pita bread more than I thought I would. In addition to the food being awesome this place is pretty sweet! They have a beautiful, huge bar (that's where I'm sitting tonight) you can sit yourself and order at the bar or you can make your way to the registers at the back and order there. So either way you get to sit and eat quickly. So yeah, I'm impressed. Well done Koble. read more

Cool place to go. Just an FYI you grab a menu and place order in the back by the soda fountain. They give you a number and you pick a table. Now after that is done you get the food and it's good. Love the atmosphere and try to get a table in the front by the street if the windows are open. Great being in Westerville and this place fits State Street well. The souvlaki gyro is great, chicken gyro looked good, French fries were simple but excellent I thought. Not overdone. Chocolate cake was good too. All in all 4 stars solid, I would do 4.5 but there are not 1/2 stars. Get the garlic sauce with the gyro, it's not necessary traditional but man it's good! Prices are reasonable. read more

My husband and I visited Koble again and sat at the bar watching the NFL draft today. They have large screens and different channels, so it's a nice place to go for this. We had a good and attentive bartender. We ordered the falafel appetizer and spicy gyro and the pork tenderloin gyro. The falafel was ok. Only 4 small pieces in that for $7. With a little hummus and pita. I don't think it's worth the value. However, the gyro was delicious. Both were. We also ordered fries since they do not come with your gyro. We shared those. I bumped up my review for the convenience of the screens to watch sports at the bar and eat. Normally you order your food Nd fountain drinks and pay. Then food comes to you. You go to the bar to get your alcoholic drinks. Again not an everyday place due to cost but nice for date night or every now and again. read more

When we finally got to the back of the restaurant where you order we had a hard time deciding and the menu was bigger than we anticipated and wasn't organized well. Northstar, Piada & others have a much better flow for counter ordering. This time opted for lunch carry out. Went w gyro & fries. I had incorrectly assumed the fries were handcut. I'm not sure I've bee to a med/Greek restaurant where they weren't. Disappointing, can get similar fries from any fast food. Gyro was decent size, pretty standard. Not the best gyro, not the worst. I went here for lunch and ordered a gyro and spanakopita. I sat at the bar because of what I'd read on here about ordering being awkward. That's the main reason why I only gave 4 stars. I wish they had a usual set up with servers taking your order at your table. My gyro was messy but delicious. I enjoyed the meat and sauce they used. The spanakopita was also messy but yummy. I made the mistake of taking a bite out of it right when it came out and it was extremely hot. I thought it was a bit unusual that my appetizer and meal came out at the same time, but I've read that's happened to other people too. It's a beautiful atmosphere inside and a lot of Westerville locals like it. They play loud pop music which I didn't mind but seemed strange for an Italian/ Greek restaurant. read more

For an appetizer we had the spicy feta, hummus, and tzaziki. It was a great start to the meal, and the spicy feta was fantastic. I always get the Italian salad. The dressing is awesome! I like to get some on the side to dip the pita bread in. Service can be slow at times. During my latest visit we sat at the bar. The bartender took our drink order and moved on to the next guest. It got a little busy while we sat waiting for her to come back to take our order. To make her life easier we were going to go to the order counter to place our food order then sit back down. Cool place. Decor is top notch. Woodwork is the best I've ever seen in an eatery. Food is pretty good, but it just opened, so I'm sure they're still getting their legs underneath them. My daughter ordered the Italian Flatbread - that thing is HUGE!!! My son ordered the Jumbo Spicy Gyro. Both kids were really happy with their choices. I also ordered a side of fries - plenty for the kids to share and very tasty. To start us off I ordered a couple of appetizers - the Spanakopita (which I had at my first visit here in Marc) and the Calamari Fritti. Outstanding! My son was happy to finally try calamari - it was on his summer bucket list. The version here is different than the standard deep-fried calamari I've had in other restaurants. I really enjoy the way it is prepared here. I got the Greek Salad with Gyro meat like I did my first visit. I was once again pleased. The waitress, I should have gotten her name, was adorable. She took our order and checked us out. Little redhead, ponytail, very personable (my receipt says cashier 2). She helped me decide what I was going to order and checked on us frequently once we got our food. I got the shrimp Philly. Great concept. It was good, but it needed a lot more seasonings. There are a variety to choose from. They should look into that. The House Merlot was a little bitter for my taste, but not unbearable. The atmosphere is really nice. Cozy. Comfy. Best Greek food I have had for sure! I highly recommend their Gyro, any of their flat breads, or the Pasticio. The quality and amount of you get is awesome, as well as the price. With it being on right in downtown Westerville. it can get busy at the normal lunch or dinner times, but in my book that's good, and further proof of how great the food is. I have enjoyed every trip to Koble, and generally can't wait for a reason to visit again. The Italian Gyro is my favorite. Caution it is spicy so may not appeal to everyone. The servings are very generous, and could be split (but it's hard to stop when you're enjoying it so much!). Atmosphere is very casual, and decor is very inviting. I love the open windows when the weather permits. I will agree with some of the other reviews that the first time you visit the ordering process can feel awkward, but it works smoothly and the staff has always been very pleasant and helpful. My wife and I walked up to Koble for dinner and enjoyed it pretty well. There was some initial confusion regarding the seating and ordering system. A server took us to a table but left us with no menus. Once we acquired some, we were left to order. I went to the counter and ordered a falafel appetizer, spicy gyro with no onions, and the stuffed peppers entre. The food came in short enough time and was pretty good! The gyro was decent sized for the price and I liked the acerbic heat of the banana peppers with the feta. My wife enjoyed the peppers and is looking forward to moussaka next time. We'll go back, now that we understand the system. I'd be more interested in carryout, and would be leery of taking a large group with separate checks, at least when they're busy. read more

Saturday, Aug. 7 my wife and I decided to have dinner at Koble. What a mistake. When we entered the restaurant there was no one waiting so we thought we would be seated quickly. The hostess told us, though, that unless we wanted to sit at a high-top table she could not seat us. There were lots of open tables so I did not want to sit at a high-top. I have a disability that makes it almost impossible for me to get up on one of those high chairs. When I asked about all the other seating she said that they were held for parties of 4 and she would not seat two people at one of them. This was obviously not true as we saw several tables for 4 being occupied by only 2 people. Well, I know that they do a great business so they won't be hurt by me not coming back but I have no intention of returning. read more

The ambiance at lunch was nice. I was a bit lost walking in and trying to figure out if you take a seat, or wait for someone to seat you. My husband then spotted the counter (which is out of view from the front entrance) that said to order there. No biggie, just felt dumb my first time walking in with no one helping us. I ordered the chicken gyro, my husband- the spicy gyro, we also ordered french fries and baklava. My chicken was dry and my pita so stuffed I had to end up eating it with a fork. I found myself favoring the fries rather than my gyro. Hubby said his lamb was also dry and wasn't impressed with it. Delicious Greek food in a beautifully appealing space. I have eaten at Koble four times -- almost since it opened -- and the menu keeps expanding and the food gets even more delicious each time. Added to that, the prices are surprisingly reasonable. We've had the lemon potatoes ($2.50! -- less than a cup of coffee), the eggplant, the octopus, and the Spanakopita. They are all tasty, but the octopus is the best I've ever had. Anywhere. It's tempting to say that Koble stands out in Uptown Westerville -- and it does -- but it would stand out anywhere in Columbus. It is a welcome addition to an increasingly competitive and thriving restaurant scene. It's spacious, but the two sides are very different. One has a draft from the door and the other is very bright and loud. We ordered drinks, calamari and hummus. The ordering situation is odd. If you want to sit at a table, you order from a counter in the back and tip before any service has been rendered. You then take a number and choose a table. They brought the calamari out while we were still searching for a table and the drinks showed a couple minutes later. We had to go to the bar to get our own waters. The calamari is abundant. There is a ton on the plate, thick strips, good sauce, decent breading, very salty. The cocktails are just fine. Nothing special.
