Competent, qualified, personable...docs, techs, office personnel. What more is there?

Had an 11 o clock appointment on March 12 2024 told them I needed to be back at work promptly by 12:30. Assured me I'd be back with plenty time to spare. Never updated me that the doctor was behind seeing patients as time continued to pass didn't get me back until 11:55 front desk was very unprofessional. I was subsequently late back to my professional career. Later that day returned to get lenses with my new prescription. Another woman behind the counter was also rude and unprofessional told me my insurance didn't cover it even though it does. Never even bothered to look it up despite me telling her I am covered. Think she assumed based on how I look that there's no possible way I could have adequate insurance coverage. Very hurtful and disrespectful. Then informs me of a policy which costs 25 dollars to bring your own frames while simultaneously asking me to sign a waiver that makes them not liable or responsible if my new frames are damaged. This is clearly a moral hazard. I asked what's the failure rate that such damages occur, she refused to answer. I asked who is the manufacturer that does the work she refused to tell me. I asked if she could contact them to inquire, she said she cannot. I asked for the contact info so that I may ask myself, she replied "well they don't want people calling harassing them." Confused I asked if me calling them is considered harassment. She rolled her eyes and explained it was not (I already knew that) again I think she said this based on how I look despite the fact that I never gave her a reason to believe this other than what she assumed about me. Strange that they would want to take my money and have my business while simultaneously refusing to tell me who I am doing business with. Seems like in all likelihood if I would have signed the waiver and sent my frames they would have been deliberately broken so that I be forced to buy a complete pair of frames and lenses from them. Disgusting behavior from the employees and a clear moral hazard/predatory policy masquerading as a legitimate business. I told her have a nice day despite all of this, she was shocked that I could still manage to have manners at the end of her gross behavior and lack of professionalism. Ironically I went to LensCrafters and they had no such policy/waiver/fee. Probably because they aren't running a scam. Doctor I saw was great sadly the front office/retail staff was so horrible I wouldn't go back if they were the only one in a 100 mile radius. I advise you don't either. read more

I 100% agree with the 1 star review left below. I got charged more than I should have 3 out of 4 times I've been there over the past 3 years. They pretend it's a mistake, but they keep using the strategy of sending small bills so that patients will just pay them to avoid the aggressive reminders. If you decide to go and risk it, always check the charges with your insurance, and get ready to deal with the pushy front desk employees. Dr. Scharff is *wonderful*, but I can't deal with the dishonesty of the staff. read more

I went to Koch Eye Associates a couple of years ago for replacement lenses. They wanted to charge me $900. for a pair of lenses, with my frame. I didn't buy it. I'm not sure what it is about the eyewear industry that attracts so many sleazy people, but it does. Go and look at reading glasses with single vision lenses for $25. in some drugstores. What do you think those same glasses would cost you at one of these gyp joints - and they wouldn't last any longer. This captive industry operates with incredible markups and little regulation. I can't comment about the optometrists at this place, but what I have have learned over the years is that any personnel in a practice are reflections of their employer. Stay away from this optical lab. And check the reviews for Koch at other locations. I originally wrote a similar review about Koch Eye Associates 2 years ago which has disappeared from my list of reviews --- or was deleted by someone with access to my computer -- so I'm updating it. read more

Everyone is extremely friendly. This was my first time being able to go to the eye drs in years and Dr. Lewis was very helpful with finding me an amazing prescription. She is extremely kind, caring, and very thorough with her explanations. I am excited to get my new glasses and looking forward to following up at this facility :) read more

I had a great experience with my appointment. Ashley, the technician, was very professional and thorough and friendly. Dr Vania Bae did a thorough eye exam efficiently. She put me at ease during the eye exam and explained the findings to me afterwards. Everyone was very nice, helpful and professional. Great staff providing great service. stay away from this place. i went for a emergency and they said they do not accept my insurance. after the girl at the front desk spoke with the dr, she said if i pay today the dr will see me. i paid in full and have the receipt. today i received another bill in the mail. after speaking with the office manager who was not present at the time of service, i was told because of the code the dr put in. dr checked my right eye, not even a full eye exam. he seen me in between other people. they consistently call to remind me of my appointment but who's job is it to see if the dr takes your insurance? they always try to get extra money out of people for services they don't provide. stay away from koch eye associates. don't get screwed like i did. read more

Just writing about the glasses shop - not the doctors. I thought the selection was large and fairly priced compared to other glasses shops in the area. They were carrying the specific glasses I saw at Len's Crafters that I wanted. The price was lower and they accepted my VSP insurance unlike Lens Crafters. The saleswoman was extremely friendly. I'm really excited for my new glasses from here to come in! read more

Only need one word to describe this place- atrocious. I had gone here for eye appointments, contacts and glasses over the years mainly because it was the closest place in the state and it took my insurance. I've avoided it for years mainly because I felt the eye doctor is more about get them in and out as fast as possible. She didn't seem to care at all for the few minutes you even see her. Just comes across as very rude. Last time I had bought my glasses there, the woman in the shop was helpful but she messed up when ordering my lenses. When they came in she told me they were $50 more than we had discussed. Apparently she added a feature to my lenses in the order that I clearly said I did NOT want. I needed the glasses and was stuck paying for something I didn't even ask for. Fast forward to a few weeks ago. I am in the market for new glasses and stopped at a few different places and ended up going here to see what they had. Selection was ok but the woman at the desk was extremely rude. I said hello and she didn't acknowledge me. After looking at frames for a few minutes, I'm Halfway through the room and she asks about my insurance provider. Before I could answer she rudely waved her hand towards the frames by the door and said those would be better for me because they were cheaper. Excuse me? I guess she assumed I couldn't afford anything else?? I told her cost was not an issue and that I was just looking to find something I actually like. Found a pair I kind of liked and asked her for a piece of paper (since there was some right next to her) and she came across as OH SO PUT OUT by it. I grabbed a pen and she snaps "here" and hands me a post it. I wrote down the model and walked out. I'm hoping I can find something I like elsewhere because They do not deserve my business or frankly, anyone else's. Steer clear! read more

Called because I needed to be reminded of what my contact prescription was. The woman said that she was not allowed to give it to me because it was expired. I said "okay well can I make an appointment" she said that they were booked out for the next 7 months. I said "okay well I really need to see until then, can I please have my contact prescription" she said the only way she would give it to me was if I read her what I think my prescription is. I told her what I had written down and she kept saying "no that's not it" I said "but I'm reading this directly from the contact lenses I bought here, I just wanted to make sure this was my most recent prescription. " then she said "oh, yes that is your prescription. Sorry I was reading the computer screen wrong I had someone else's prescription up". Who trained the women at the front desk? This is the third time this has happened, they have given me someone else's prescription multiple times. I'm starting to believe that it's not the computer system that's confusing. This is a doctors office, they should be acting more professional than this. read more

I'm writing about a recent experience that I had with the Optical Shop at the Wakefield location. It was a totally poor experience and needs to be "put out there". Went in this week to purchase a pair of progressive eyeglasses after verifying insurance coverage with my carrier. I was told my insurance didn't apply to eyeglasses. I again explained that I had checked with Anthem B/C-B/S, my provider, and was told that wasn't correct. I asked if the associate could call Anthem and I was told that she was too busy. I left at that point. At home, I called Anthem again and explained the visit encounter and that employee said that she would call Koch. I also called Koch that afternoon and ended up leaving a message. My Anthem contact called me back to say that she also wasn't able to talk to anyone at Koch. The next morning I returned to Koch to discuss this with their associate. I provided my Anthem contact and her number and the Koch associate called Anthem. We ended up waiting at least 30 minutes before she returned to say there was in fact eyeglass coverage. She then told us that she couldn't do an order because she didn't know how to write it up. She said that she was waiting for a "call back" from her billing department on how to write an order. She also informed me that the cheapest frames were $169.00 and lowest progressive lenses were $295.00. She then said that she would call me back after she heard back from the billing department. To the point of this writing, I haven't heard back from this person. Maybe they are planning to provide a seminar on how to bill out $500.00 for a pair of glasses. I consider this to be a total "run around" and based on some other reviews, I'm not the only one that feels this way. Needless to say, I went to another eyeglass shop and town and ordered glasses in 45 minutes. The cost was less than half of the Koch price and I ended up with high end lenses. Buyer beware! read more
