I came in because after the last snowstorm we had an ice chunk ripped off my front fender liner along with damaging my front bumper. I was referred here by the Toyota dealership after they reviewed my vehicle and the damages. I called made an appointment for a consultations and they gave me an estimate of all the repairs and pricing. They told me they would contact me when they received the parts and they did, rather quickly. I dropped off my car and had repairs complete within two days. I was looking to get work done one my front passengers side at the head light. I called and could come in for an estimate whenever. When I got there they got someone to look at my car relatively fast. The guy estimating was short with me and seemed he just wanted to get the estimable over with. I tried to understand as this was a busy time. At the end he stated they would contact me with an estimate later that day or the next. I told them I was trying to decide between a few shops so the soon I hear from them the better. I never heard from them that day or the next. I called them a couple days after and couldn't get anyone to answer. Then tried again later and they said they would email me the estimate and verified my email. seven years ago, this was the finest body shop in all west Michigan, now that the son is running the place, it's just another earl shieb, they repaired my vehicle, damaged the diesel particulate filter by idling a quarter tank of fuel though it, then took it out and beat on it trying to get the check engine light to go out? they could not even make up a believable story. during the 5 months that they have had my vehicle, almost every word out of Trevors mouth was lie. I have onstar connected service and showed Micheal Koenes Jr, the data from on star showing the hard acceleration notes, where the technician "enjoyed" driving my $80000 truck. He provided me with every excuse why it could not have happened, all while holding the printed proof in his hands. I literally had to spend the last month going back and forth with my attorney, and send Micheal Koenes Jr the relevant Michigan statute for the laws they were breaking. Trevor failed to follow the insurance companies approval process, and then tried to stick me with $3900 in cost, that my insurance company refused to pay. I wound up levering Micheal Koenes Jr, into waiving the cost of the unauthorized work, and I picked up my truck. My $80000 truck with 19000 miles on it, looks like a crackhead put the interior in. the plastic on the door panels where they reinstalled the panels have huge push pin marks, where the door panel,is not assembled correctly, and the interior of the vehicle was not detailed, or even vacuumed correctly. So they damaged and abused my vehicle, fouled up the insurance claim, and lied about everything. Then to add insult to injury, they did an absolute horrible job, and the truck looks like crap. Save yourself the headache, this place is ruined. read more

I deliberately posted zero stars because of the following: Recently my car was serviced by this company through my company. While it was six days after, when I found out the bill would be my responsibility I immediately contacted Koenes to see if I could get payment switched over to me. The first response was 'American Express' is one of the only cards we do not accept'. Then I wrote back with the offer to use a different card. Their response was ' the check was cashed six days ago and this would be a hassle'. I wrote back explaining that instead of having a four figure bill facing me, if I could charge this and finance myself it would be immensely helpful. Here's what I was asking: 1. Take my payment info and process 2. Issue a refund to my employer. Is that too much to ask? Apparently so, because my response from them was " I'm sorry there's nothing we can do". Yes there was. They just chose not to. In this day and age when competition is fierce and customer service is so important this company failed. If you're in the Grand Rapids area and in need of body work please seek out a company that treats you like a valued customer. Not a bank balance. read more

From recommendation of some people, I brought our car to Koenes for what amounted to be a direct body part replacement of a fairly major body part that was damaged. Since I am the type who wants to know how things are getting done, I specifically told the estimator to inform me before they place the part back as I wanted to make sure that the rustproofing was applied underneath as I requested. I was not too pleased when I was contacted only when the job was done. Therefore, I am now only going by their word that whatever I asked for was actually done. but also this then leaves me wondering if they actually did the work. I was hoping to have a good experience with them so I will use them in the future in case I need body work services. But because of this experience I doubt I will go back there. Since then I had the opportunity to have some work done by Ed's Body Shop in Caledonia. I found them good to work with. I took my 2 year old car to Koenes for an exterior detail, as there were tiny rusty spots developing in the clear coat on top of the white paint. I was willing to wait the two weeks to get it in and was pleasantly surprised when they called a couple of days later with a next day opening. They went out of their way to make it convenient for drop off and pick up and the job that they did was absolutely amazing! I thought the original finish was really good (I'm very fussy about my car) but the way it came out was SO much better, the body felt like silk, and every single defect was gone, even a small ding that I didn't think would be in the spectrum of a 'detail' job. And the price was extremely reasonable! This will definitely be a yearly thing for my car - but only at Koenes. read more

Poor experience. I had an interior and exterior detail done and my car came back smelling like pesticides. Nearly a month later and it still smells horrible inside my car. Had a few dents removed as well; counted them up with the individual doing the quote...of course when they went to do the work they called me to tell me there were more than originally counted... at this point I had already rented a car and dropped mine off, so it would have been a pain to leave work and go verify the "additional dents". Terrible customer service and workmanship. Would not recommend this vendor to anyone. Shocked they're still in business. read more

My beloved 2012 Golf R had rust work done under warranty. I thought only the driver's fender would be repaired and waited and waited while Betten Imports got approval from VW. When Koenes informed me that my repair was approved, I mentioned the passenger fender rust and found out BOTH fenders were already in the shop. When they went through the car, there was rust in the rocker panels and quarter panel...they navigated the whole process and got EVERYTHING approved and redone. PLUS my car looked like new inside and out when I picked it up. It took longer than originally estimated because they had to get the additional approvals. But they kept me informed the whole time and I am as happy as can be. Worth the wait. Oh yeah, did I mention the bottle of touchup paint? HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. read more

Koenes definitely deserves 5 stars. We moved to Grand Rapids recently, and less than a week after we moved, we were rear-ended by an idiot who was texting and driving. Because we hadn't changed our car insurance or registration over to Michigan yet, we thought it would be a huge headache and were going to pay out of pocket. We took our car to a couple different places to get an estimate, and took it to Koenes Auto Body last. We didn't have an appointment and didn't call in advance, but Mike Koenes Jr. did the estimate for us and e-mailed us the expected charges by the time we returned to our apartment just 10 minutes later. (The other body shops didn't get back to us until days later and at a higher estimated cost.) Mike encouraged us to reach out to our insurance and we were happy to discover that our damages would all be covered, and Koenes Auto Body worked directly with our out-of-state insurance adjuster without any hassle. They also arranged for Enterprise to drop off a rental car for us (a luxury SUV at a discounted rate that would also be fully covered by our insurance) and handled the return as well. When I picked up the car, it looked like new, was washed and detailed, and they included extra touch-up paint from what they had mixed to do the repair job. They even filled my tires up with air after noticing my tire pressure was low. I honestly don't have enough good things to say about them and I wouldn't hesitate for a second to use them again. I was very satisfied with the work that I had completed. The office communicated with me very well on the progress of my vehicle, and the quality of the work was outstanding. I consider myself very picky when it comes to my personal vehicles, and I consider their work top-notch. I highly recommend them, and they even cleaned the inside of my car once it was finished.
