First, keep in mind the entrance is the lobby of the islander inn, so you have to walk to the back left through the lobby. I got the paniolo burger which was a bacon cheeseburger and also contained an onion ring with a side of salad. I was pleasantly surprised with the burger. They had a special sauce which tasted like a ketchup with a hint of bbq sauce. I think this added a different pizzazz to the burger that I enjoyed. The brioche bun was very soft. This used to be the Kohala Village Inn... now not only is it a small motel but an actual hub for activities of all kinds. Located right off the main highway up Hawi Road about 200 yards, this classic little spot is right in the middle of everything. Right across the street from the Banyan tree which a couple days a week as a beautiful farmers market. There is also the zip line center and Naktana store that has just about everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to sandwiches fishing tackle flip-flops CDs plate lunch & all kine stuffs. The motel has been all redone. All the rooms have great air-conditioners and fans, new TVs and all new furniture. Very quaint and priced very fair. The people that run the desk are very courteous and helpful in every way. That's a nice sitting areas and a great place for kids as they have A big playground in the back which is like a nice park. Speaking of parking, no problem, you can park right next to your room. There is also a two-story building, but we prefer the single level building right around the lobby area. There are no elevators in the two-story building. Anybody coming out this way I would highly recommend staying here, unless you like an Airbnb type of place better. Our experience was not a good one. We ended up here for Sunday breakfast/brunch basically because almost nothing else was open. A local merchant had warned us that the quality of the food was not great, but we did not have a lot of other options. Even though we were fairly early for brunch 10:30, they were already out of a lot of items. The pancakes with poi were just, bad. Service was friendly, but they forgot items twice. Smoothies were very watery. The special Poncho Scramble was tasty though. Interesting that they have a posted sign that they allow dogs, but only if they are well-behaved and do not disrupt the customers. Unfortunately they appear to have no such policy for children. While we were trying to order and eat there were three small children, one in diapers, running and screaming (!) through the restaurant for at least 15 minutes. Absolutely ridiculous!! read more

We were really impressed with this restaurant and bar. We sat at the bar and our bartender Jennifer was excellent. She makes a great tropical island iced tea. This place features produce from local farms, so it couldn't get any fresher. The fried tofu appetizer was very good, and so are their salads. Before you decide to eat here, you should know that the food takes very long to arrive. For more details, read on. There are not many options for food in this town and the ones that do exist are really crowded and overpriced. This is one of the few places in the town that isn't too crowded and convenient if you're staying in the inn. The downside is that the staff are stretched way too thin here and the result is that each table gets very little attention. Hawi is a cute little town, always fun to visit enroute to hiking in the Pololū Valley--and we usually arrive there hungry. What a treat to have a friend introduce us to the HUB Pub, around the corner off the main drag. The food quality at this joint was excellent. I had a burger and salad, and the burger was cooked to perfection. Friends had other dishes like an ahi and pork special and enjoyed it. The service is laid back and friendly. The outdoor setting is really pleasant. The HUB Pub will be my new go-to spot when I arrive hungry in Hawi! read more

We stopped here for breakfast on our way to Waimea. Service is absolutely wonderful. Food was fresh and so good. They use organic farm ingredients so all dishes are health conscious but filling. Our orders were: bacon bowl, sausage bowl, and The Belt sandwich. The bowls are served with your choice of white or brown rice. The sandwich was approved and eaten by my picky teenage boy. Had an odd experience here. Bartender seemed like a friendly guy who just wanted to have a good time but was extremely unprofessional. He appeared to be on the internet using the ipad register, greeted someone as they entered with a "Hey Fu*ker", and poured a full pint of 10% Belgian beer and gave it to a customer to give to a young woman and told them it was a 5% IPA. Very odd. They probably could use better management. Also the menu is a bit un-creative and lacks vegetarian options. All in all they are trying and will do well since tourists are always rolling through, so its more of a one and done sort of clientele. Living here in Kailua- Kona for 40 years my husband and I decided to take a drive up to Hawi on a Sunday to sightsee and have lunch. We chose the Kohala Village Hub Pub. Was very down home, and very homey. Everything on the menu looked like it was homemade, and organic. I got a burger that was excellent. The rolls were homemade, burger was from Waimea also. Excellent! My husband got a local moco. He loved it. Everything was great. Employees all upbeat and service was excellent. Live lunch and entertainment. An incredible young lady 11 years old played her ukulele and sang on stage for the customers. Our waitress told us she writes all of her own songs. Was quite entertaining. Great lunch!! Locally sourced, organically produced ingredients. We ended up there for lunch after driving up to Hawi. My 12 year old had the chicken bowl which he loved. My older son ordered the All American Burger and my husband had the Loco Moco Bowl. I had the Anuenue salad which is their version of beets and goat cheese. Delicious and filling, even without any protein. My husband and I shared the onion rings which were perfectly battered and fried. Our service was friendly and attentive. She even charged my younger sons phone when she overheard him telling us the battery was low. This is definitely a great spot to stop going through this town on the North Kohala coast. We were looking for a place to take a break from our drive around the north tip of Hawaii, and saw the HUBPub. It said it was lodging, food, and learning. What a find! Beautiful vintage restored early twentieth century bar, restaurant and inn. All the food is locally sourced, organic and delicious! The staff was friendly and accommodating. They're quite new, don't have a liquor license yet, but will soon. But you can BYOB for now. We took a peek at the beautifully restored inn and it was like a step back in time. If I ever get to come back to Hawaii, I most definitely will want to stay there. read more

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO EAT HERE EVER! If I could give this negative stars I would. The service was extremely slow that our food came out to us cold. It took so long to come out to us that even though we were there at 8 we didn't get to eat until an hour later. We also needed to pay separately within our group and apparently that equates to hard work. The waitress decided to charge 20% for her tip and claim it was the managers instructions to do so. She spoke to me in a very rude and disrespectful manner and stormed off. The woman next to her behind the bar I inquired about their manager. She said she was the bar manager. I asked if there was another manager on duty she said no so she also didn't want to deal with it because apparently no manager said to charge 20% off the top from each of our bills for gratuity (it wasn't stated on the menu or anywhere either that it was policy which would have been fine had it been restaurant policy). Mind you she didn't bring me my paper to sign my receipt it already had said approved as if charged already. So, when I began to ask the manager about it she said that a man from our table said to do that and that's why it's there because they only do that unless the customer requests (charge a standard %for gratuity). The description she gave was a"white man". To my surprise because we didn't have a "white man" at our table we did however have 2 woman that could have fit the description so I requested she come over to our table and point out whom she witnessed give the waitress permission. Because they were charging my card according to someone else's supposed request. As soon as she saw that we didn't have anyone by that description no apology for the mix up or anything but I was actually handed a receipt with the 20% charged total and the tip/new total and sign receipt which didn't show that I had already been charged gratuity. I'm normally very gracious with gratuity however she barely came to check in on us. Always, seemed flustered for anything we would attempt to order and literally told us we are by no means allowed to request to deviate from the menu for example to hold the mushrooms or onions at all! In the end we were all extremely unhappy with our food, and service and how long it took to get 1 of our receipts back that the head of our group paid the bill and we settled it in house because we were coming up on 10pm due to her incompetence to do her job and they blamed it on the POS system. I've worked in the industry and that's why I tip well; but between her poor service, attempt to get a ridiculously large tip for her poor service, the cold sub par food, the waitresses deceitful attempt to get a double tip on top of that by calling it a service charge on the receipt, managements terrible means to "handle" the situation due to the lies she (waitress) told on top of her rude attitude and communication with me I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT FOR FOOD OR DRINKS TO ANYONE EVER!!!! Well the name should be HUB, not Pub. We specifically went there to have a sandwich and a beer for lunch. When we got in the young lady was very nice and showed us the special board. Noticed the Mahi-mahi lunch special priced at 18 dollars. We sat down and quickly was served water. We asked about the beer, and was then told no alcohol was available. However she suggested that we go to the store and bring it in and they would provide us glasses. We also looked further into the menu. Noticed that all the prices were high. OMG. The Hub is such a little gem in Hawi! We stopped for lunch there and not only was I totally impressed by the menu and food, but it truly feels like a community gathering place. First off the restaurant is incredible - super healthy, but unique and yummy. I had a turkey ruben on homemade gluten free bread, sweet potato fries and a turmeric kombucha. My husband had and Ulu (breadfruit) burger and green juice - and 90% of what they served is produced locally! Can it get any better? My son got to play in the play areas for kiddos and keep himself busy for most of the meal :) But the grounds are truly amazing too! There is a sweet little inn with charming rooms, a music venue and bar outback that can be used for all kinds of community events, a pottery studio, classrooms for kids and adults, a playground....and the list goes on.
