The tiny Hawi downtown is just around the corner. The parking lot is right next to the building. The front desk women were very nice and helpful. This is a nice, reasonably-priced (by Hawaii standards) motel in the heart of the charming town of Hawi. The buildings are older, plantation-style structures, so the rooms are a tad smaller than in some newer properties, but nicely furnished, attractive and air-conditioned. The woman running the front desk was pleasant and extremely helpful, and it's a short walk to restaurants and the local arts and crafts shops the area is known for. As a bonus, the Hawi Farmers' Market takes place in front every Saturday morning. While not super fancy, this is an excellent choice if you're visiting North Kohala (which you really should). read more

Visiting family in the Kohala area and I wanted to be nearby and away from the hustle and bustle of Waikoloa and Kona. At the last minute, stumbled upon her the Kohala Village Inn and am so grateful! It is the cutest little spot! We got an 'ohana unit which was perfect for my little family of 4, while traveling with my mom. She got a private room, while we shared a double, but our rooms were connected by a shared bath which made it great to check in with mom. Pros: Contactless check in/out. We got an email from KVI with instructions and key codes. Used the same link to hit check out and we were on our way. Super quiet! Besides the coqui frogs at night, it was so peaceful. CLEAN!!! This is a big deal to me as I am so OCD and a germaphobe, even before Covid! But it was so clean. The linen were fresh and crisp. Convenient. Especially since we were visiting family right in Hawi, but there's an amazing little gas station with the very best fried chicken! In the morning they had a great cup of coffee too, but there's also a cute coffee shop well within walking distance, if you're looking for something a little fancier. Absolutely love this place! The plantation style reminds me of home! The checkin was easy and simple, which is nice after a long day. The rooms are nice and clean. The only thing is that I arrived at night so everything was really dark-perhaps a little more lighting outside or on the sign. Other than that, no complaints. read more

Downside: housekeeping couldn't see the dust bunnies and hair balls on the floor despite a specific reminder. I'll bring my own dust buster next time - lol. The morning coffee sucks but good coffee shop around the corner. Good location but the Kohala Club Hotel about a mile away is a better deal. For maximum privacy ask for a king bed room on the second floor of building B. At the end of the hall. The longer walk is worth it...you can leave windows open and chill. read more

Very cool little motel in Hawi. The person at the front desk was super nice, the room was cute and clean and the bed was super comfy.

Kinda like summer camp, but you get your own room. the furnishings are plantation style and cute, I was pleased with the aesthetics and the rooms are around a nice courtyard. but here are my good and bad highlights: first of all, bring bug repellant. got two new mosquito bites, one on my face. probably in my room. secondly, I opened my room door and a gecko greeted me on my floor. omfg. I hate geckos. there was also a roach and a moth in my room that I could hear flapping around all night. surprised he didn't land on me. didn't bother me too much, it's outside after all. 3rd, the walls are so thin. I could hear the couple next door like they were in the room with me. it was very frustrating. even with my tv turned up (to the one station it catches; there's a DVD player, bring ur own DVDs) and coughing so they knew I was there. they also KNOCKED on my wall once, WTF, so I had to listen to you drunkenly give directions on the phone for an hour and you're knocking on my wall cause I had to turn my tv up? ugh. UPDATE: I just woke up to the sound of my neighbor PEEING, and then the toilet flush. i am lying in bed sleeping and I can hear him PEE like I was sleeping in his bathroom. boy, he must've drank a lot, I am utterly grossed out at how clear and loud I could hear him PEEING. I could hear a drum beat too which was annoying (update: it's from the restaurant nearby, so no escaping this one on weekends!). parking lot was right outside my window so the cars parking and seemingly driving in circles in the parking lot all night?? I heard a cow?? and people ran back and forth all night and someone got up at 4 am and went into the parking lot to make a phone call, directly outside my window. I guess if you're a DEAD heavy sleeper, you don't mind geckos and roaches and moths, and just need a bed and a shower, cool. otherwise... well you don't really have a choice out here do you? maybe on a slow day, weekday, if you can get a room away from other people, it'd be okay. it's not their fault, the management were nice and can't do anything about most of these issues and I can tell from their emails that they care and take pride in it, but I was not happy with the noise at all, but I did hear I went on a busy weekend for Waimea (festival?) read more

We only stayed here one night but once we circumnavigated the island we wished we had stayed longer and we would definitely stay there again. When we originally booked this room we made an error on the reservation night and when we figured it out we called and talked with the owner (I think), who was very nice and fixed the whole error without even balking. The atmosphere is very cute-- summer camp-ish as someone else mentioned.We had two rooms with a jack-and-jill bath. It was perfect for our family. There are bugs, and there is no air conditioning but we found that it was easy to get a cross-wind with the windows and the ceiling fans. The bugs weren't really a big deal either. There are geckos but they are an non-native invasive that are present over the whole island so there is no escaping them. It was during the off-season when we stayed at the Kohala Village Inn and they were working on repainting and remodeling. The work they had done made the whole place look very clean and tidy. read more

This place wins points for being one of the few places to stay on the northernmost tip of the Kohala Coast. The location is excellent. It's within walking distance to downtown Hawi, which is probably the largest town in the vicinity (note: it is still extremely small). Good things: - Really nice manager (Leilani). - When we got there late (after 8 pm), the front desk was closed. We hadn't let them know we'd be late, but there was an envelope with my name on it right there on the counter with instructions. This was a really nice courtesy, especially for a motel. - The room itself was nicer than I expected: clean, hardwood floors, nicely decorated. If a Motel 6 is a 4/10, this place is at least a 6. Bad things: - The coffee is terrible. The island abounds with superb coffee, and the continental breakfast coffee is made with pre-ground Kirkland. Yuck. - There were rats (yes, plural) running all over the roof at night. This grossed me out, and the roof must be thin, because you could really hear them... - The walls are thin, and you can hear people in the next room. This wasn't a problem for us, but if we'd had loud neighbors, this could have been bad. I also recommend asking for a room in the back; in the front part of the building, I'm guessing you can probably hear the live music from Luke's Place. Neutral things: - Continental breakfast. Very basic. When we were there, it was just bagels and cereal, though the manager told us there's usually more. - There's no maid service during your stay, I think, unless you request it. I actually liked this. But it's not a good place to come if you expect people to be waiting around to meet your every need. read more

It's one of those places that makes you feel so glad that you stumbled upon, which is exactly what I did when using Google Maps. My husband and I are staying for a week at a timeshare but wanted to get to Hawaii (both our first time) a few days early. We chose Kohala Village Inn based on good prices and reviews. We get here and get the warmest service ever! We also tried their new dinner service, which was priced so fairly and the quality was amazing. Lovely little inn, plantation style older building that is being renovated. The staff were friendly and helpful and I loved my little room. My room was clean, linens and towels were snowy white. Bed was comfortable and the room got a wonderful cross breeze. My only complaints were that vehicle noise from next door was loud in the mornings, and the windows that opened on the interior side towards the courtyard were very low to the ground, so I kept them closed, as I felt they would be easy for someone to climb through. read more

Unfortunately, I rated it two stars because of the unprofessional and rude encounter with the manager Kaye. The Kohala Village Inn located in a quaint town if Hawi. Annie at the front desk was very friendly and courteous.The room was very clean and simply decorated, sufficient for short stays. We had family staying there for an event that was taking place right next to the inn at the Tiki Barn. Towards the end of the evening, I was rudely approached by a woman that identified herself as the Manager of the Kohala Village Inn, Kaye, and she rambled on about the event was to suppose to end at a certain time. I told her that I was a guest of the event and she asked me to look for the host. Shortly after for the second time, Kaye got in my face, started yelling in my ear about the music needs to stop 'right now', she had a contract with the host, and that she lives three blocks away and that her windows were rattling. (REALLY?! What an exaggeration!) Kaye was VERY unprofessional to approach me since matters of the event was not my jurisdiction. Again, I reminded her that I was a guest. At that time the other guests noticed the commotion. I am all for supporting local businesses, however, I'm going to say it again, the Manager Kaye was VERY unprofessional and rude!!! I am in love with this cozy place! I felt as if I was in the middle of paradise. It's not located in a tourist area which I loved most about it. On Saturdays, the farmers market happens right across the street, which was great! So, this hotel was very clean and Auntie Annie made my friends and I feel really comfortable. We stayed here during our actors retreat and while we waited in the lobby for our training, she had wise words on how important it is to make our dreams come true. The employees were just completely welcoming and always had our fresh coffee ready for us. Oh, and the cute geckos that make an appearance are friendly as well! Best place for breakfast in Hawi, hands-down! This restaurant is brand-new and has great service, fantastic indoor/outdoor dining, fun and authentic decor and and good set menu plus fun daily specials. Definitely better than Kohala Coffee or Bamboo (which doesn't even open for breakfast until 11:30 anyway). I had a fantastic sausage omelette and a fruit smoothie to die for and my wife loved her fruit bowl and HUB brunch toast. Breakfast is very affordable at about $10 or less for most offerings. This is a beautiful inn in a plantation style building with all the character in the world. You know you aren't at the Holiday Inn when you stay here. Each room has unique furniture and a style all it's own. We would stay here again with no hesitation. The beds are to die for - so comfy and plump. The linens aren't brand new, but it's like climbing into grandma's bed the way they welcome you at night. Everything was clean and luxurious. There is no business that is perfect, but the true test is in what an organization does if there is a problem. We had ants in our room, lots of ants, which, I am quite sure management will take care of, but the manager also gave us a very fair refund. I must begin by admitting that I am someone who loves the modern comforts of a sheraton or hilton. However, this hotel's quaintness just took my breath away. I recently stayed at the Kohala Village Inn. When I arrived it was after 7:00 p.m., my key was waiting for me at the desk. When I walked into my room, I was just taken with the simplicity of the entire room. I loved it! The temperature was nice and cool. My bed was comfortable. My bathroom was very clean. The price was very reasonable and the Inn definitely wants the Kama'aina back as they offer a 10% discount. :) The whole ambience of the Inn made me actually consider taking my father back to his hometown. If ever visiting Kohala again, I know exactly where I'm staying! read more

Renee was a lifesaver. The owner of the Inn has won the lottery with such an attentive, helpful, and friendly employee. We arrived for check-in and soon realized that we had booked a night for the following week. I immediately worried that we were out of luck and would need to find another option. Renee immediately quieted those concerns and despite my error, not once made me feel like we were an inconvenience. She could easily teach a course on hospitality management at Cornell's School of Hotel Administration. Yes, she's that good. As for the room: big king comfy bed, excellent feather pillows, hot water, air conditioning, mini fridge, tv, wood floors and big bathroom. The grounds are pretty. It can be a little loud depending on what room you're in if there's an event going on. Renee even advised us not to worry as the event would end by 10pm the latest. This is a good place to stay for a quiet escape. The room was large and comfortable, as well as clean. The staff we interacted with was great. We had no problems with that. There was some outside noise but nothing too bothersome. It would have been nice if they provided the Foli app for reading eBooks. We loved the place and would like to return when we can. read more

This place was fabulous! My family of four showed up and we were treated like royalty. The atmosphere was adorable. Cute little courtyard, friendly staff, and quaint little rooms with flatscreen tvs and charming decor. I didn't hear any noises. Yes, there are some bugs, but the staff attends to every need asap. And there are bugs in Hawaii period. even at The Four Seasons, esp if you're hotel is open air like this one is. The prices were very reasonable, and this was important to us as we traveled from Los Angeles and the plane fair was quite a lot for a my whole family. The perfect place if you are on a budget. Christanne helped us with every little request. She was soooooooooo sweet. I will never forget her kindness. I promised to write a 5 star review because I was so impressed, and so here it is.
