From the outside I was a bit unsure...once inside it was all good tables were set with tablecloths and the decor was very nice. It was very busy for lunch time .We got seated near the bar unfortunately there was a child having a bit of a meltdown so we asked to move to the back room which they graciously did. Our server was lovely. We ordered a sushi platter and side of fried rice and asparagus. The food was delicious and beautifully plated with flowers and artistically arranged. Second time at Koi and was somewhat disappointed. Thai curry chicken which I loved at my first visit was not great. The chicken was overcooked and the curry fell flat. The fried dumplings were good but the charged $5 for peanut sauce when I was sure I saw it on their online menu. The place is nice and service ok but my meal fell short this time. I am so grateful to Koi for its lunch special -- and I can't deviate from the eggplant with garlic sauce! It comes with wonton soup and lovely tea, all for $13 plus tip. The place is usually rather busy at lunchtime, which is good since we want Koi to thrive. The waiters know we will play mahjong afterwards and they clear off a table for the game. Horrible experience. Waited an hour and forty five minutes for food to arrive despite having a baby in a high chair at our table and asking for them to speed up dinner multiple times. Ended up leaving without food because when it arrived the meat was tough and cold. Terrible cocktails and underwhelming wine list, bad food, and somehow the service was still the worst part. I hate giving bad reviews to small town places but I just want to post this as a warning to other vegetarians: If you ordered something called "vegetarian General Tso's", what would you expect to get? I can guarantee your answer is wrong. We ordered the above mentioned and received chicken. Very disappointing considering the rest of our meal was also vegetarian and not great. Unless you're at some kind of Tex-Mex-Chinese fusion place, General Tso's should not be made with Tabasco sauce, I'm sorry. We couldn't even eat the one with tofu because of this. One of the better Chinese restaurants I've been to. The food is very good, and the dinner portions are plenty big. I rarely finish my meal when I eat there and always have leftovers. I've had the Prawn Amazing which comes with a lot of nicely-sized prawns. Also the shrimp and chicken with rice noodles is excellent also. The orange chicken comes with a ton of large strips of chicken breast (unlike the typical nugget-sized pieces most places provide). The interior is nicely appointed. read more

Our favorite Chinese restaurant in Great Barrington. We always stop by for lunch while on our way to Butternut. Food is pretty solid. It's not epic mind blowingly good but it doesn't have any real weaknesses either. They have a pretty good menu. It's a sit down restaurant and probably slightly upscale so don't expect take out prices. It's definitely on the higher side but the quality show. We alway get the fan favorites. General Tsos, Shrimp Lomein, hot and sour soup, and one of their chef specialties. Pretty solid all around. Service is okay. Pretty attentive wait staff. 1 star ding for all the gum that is under the table. But maybe that should be a ding for all the knuckleheads that are vandalizing private property. read more

None of them satisfied, bland, thin and sorely lacking. Even the hot and sour soup which I am accustomed to having chunks of wood, ear, mushroom, tofu, and chicken or pork left me searching around my bowl for any morsel of meat or something to chew on. Wow food was not great they put sauce on everything, big plates, but it's all garnishes. We ordered fried fish, and instead we got soggy fish. Waiter was rude & made us feel uncomfortable. If your Alcohol list is longer than your specialty it's not an actual restaurant So, is this "the best" Asian restaurant in 2018? You know what's a sign you're not in for a better than mediocre Chinese meal? No non-caucasians dining there. Those greasy crisp noodles in a bowl on the table. That's two. I have no enthusiasm for Americanized Chinese and this is what this is. I asked for recommendations thinking they may tell me what they do well. Dumplings in peanut sauce? Okay I'll give it a try. Dreadful dumpling skins around excessively large ground pork balls swimming in thick, sweet peanut sauce. Yuck! Hot and sour soup was less than delicious, though palatable. I ordered basil delight. Not bad, but not a delight, with slices of chicken and soggy shrimp with some snow peas and processed vegetables. A sad experience overall and for 36 bucks.
