The named changed to Koi Seafood Restaurant... but people come here for their hot pot. I know this place opened many years but it still my first time trying it. Overpriced, not worth it. We order the basic chicken congee hot pot, the congee was too watering, never got thick at the end of the meal. Meat was fresh but other I ingredients nothing special... they say handmade cuttlefish ball, it just the ones you buy in market. It it better off to have regular hot pot than congee hot pot.

When we heard this place has a coconut chicken hotpot, it was imperative that we come and dine here. As we learnt that they may run out of the product, we were fortunate to get one. We were seated where the condiments booth were behind a few of us so we felt as though its placement could've been elsewhere just in case someone bumps into a person scooping soy sauce that can inadvertently travel forward and spill on the person sitting. Service was professional and friendly as our waitress kept checking in on our if we needed anything. When the hotpot arrived, the broth with coconut meat was already in the pot and although no fresh coconuts were opened in front us to witness actual coconut water and meat were part of the broth, we got a pretty strong coconut flavor once the broth was boiled and sipped. One of the most visually striking and appealing presentations we found hilarious and in awe was the rib eye served on a very long meat paddle (at least three and a half feet)! This definitely added to the experience since meats are typically presented on plates, not a paddle! But Koi has changed it! Definitely worth returning to - mainly for the meat paddle.

I wish I could give it a 3 star but I really can't. I LOVE hot pot, but this establishment does not hit the spot. We came to Koi, because it was the only place open that did not have a wait (during COVID). This is the first time I see a place charging $12+ for soup base!!! Everywhere else is $0-$6 for specialty soup bases. Their mala soup base is pretty good not going to lie, but for the herbal, the more you boil, the more bitter it is. The herbal does taste authentic due to the bitterness, but it is definitely not what I want when eating hot pot. We had premium meat, fatty beef, and lamb. The premium meat was the most expensive and had pretty presentation (came out in a LONG wooden board), but it was my least favorite meat. It was quite chewy and dry. Their 'homemade meatballs' arent that special, very bland. I wished I went with regular premade/frozen meatballs instead. Their fried tofu skin doesnt soak up the flavor as well as other ones. Sauce is also charged per person. They do allow us to create our own sauce, but so does many other places if asked. All other foods are ok, although most are very expensive and overpriced. The only plus of this spot is that they have beef trachea. Which was the only thing I enjoyed. I came with my friend and we spent triple the amount of what we usually spend at other hot pot places, while the food is only mediocre. Nice food presentation, but I am not sure if I want to be back again.

KOI provided an average hot pot experience. We went with two broth options, one being tomato based and the other was a kim chi broth. The menu had a variety of veggies, meats, and seafood options which we were all pleased to have so much variety. A standout off the menu I'd recommend was the shrimp paste, which puffed up into delicious shrimp balls after bouncing around in the hot broth for a little while. Beyond the shrimp paste, you'll find most hot pot staples on the menu. As I mentioned, KOI was an overall average experience. The broth was good, menu items to add to the hot pot were good, and the restaurant decor / vibe was ok. I wouldn't go out of my way and recommend KOI for hot pot, but I'd also be fine returning at a different point in time.

My family and I went here for hotpot this weekend. Everything was a la carte. Even choosing a soup base had an add-on price. We chose 1/2 herbal and 1/2 Tom yum. That itself cost $18! We ordered a dish of angus beef, prime rib, fish tofu, fish balls, watercress, spinach, spicy fish filet, taro, turnip, and 2 orders of fried tofu skin. My favorites were the fried tofu skin and fish balls. The beef dishes were just average.. It came out to be about $40/pp. We thought it was a bit expensive and prefer to go to one of the AYCE hotpot places next time..

The place has good meat, fresh vegetables, and a good broth! We enjoyed the food and the service. The only thing is that it is kind of pricey... for two ladies it cost us about $140 , and we only ordered one plate of meat and not much seafood.

This hot pot is the best I have ever had in Boston. For 2ppl we spend 115. Really great hotpot!

Admittedly, I'm starting to wonder if the sushi dining market in Quincy is becoming over-saturated. I suppose it's nice that there's a new place that isn't by that Quincy Asian dining empire, so it keeps them on their toes. I don't have a problem with their restaurants and actually like them. However, competition isn't a bad thing. Anyway, I went here for a birthday dinner (thanks Mai and Jason!) on an early Saturday evening. It was quiet and finding a table was not difficult. Having traversed past this restaurant on several occasions, I can observe that it looks like it's never difficult to find a spot. We tried a variety of rolls, along with an appetizer. The truffling tuna appetizer was okay but nothing spectacular. Since it's seared on the outside and raw in the inside, I expected the tuna to be lukewarm. However, my problem was that if a restaurant's going to indicate that the tuna is "swimming in truffle butter", there better be some truffle butter taste to it. There wasn't. The rolls varied in quality and performance. I wouldn't say any of them were mind-blowing, but some were respectable. I liked the spider roll and yellowtail with scallion roll. I'm a sucker for the former, as long as there's enough soft-shell crab. The spicy scallop maki wasn't particularly special. The crazy maki was pretty good, as there was a lot of shrimp tempura in the roll. A positive, overall, is that the rolls' rice was pretty fresh. However, the rolls, overall, had too much sauce (like a spicy sauce, etc.) and that masks the taste of fish. If I wanted the taste of spicy mayo, I can get a bottle of mayo, mix with hot sauce and squeeze in my mouth. Service was acceptable, though seemingly inexperienced. It was difficult for the waiter to communicate to us about the rolls and it seemed like we had to repeat our order. However, he was a nice guy, so I'll give him a break. Prices...decent but not great. It won't be a positive deciding factor if you're choosing between here and other nearby places.

We ordered the 9 separator hotpot which only comes with one soup base. I would like it if we had more choices on soup. We only got the choice of mild and extra spicy. I'm disappointed because my coworker raved about this restaurant too much. To a point I was too amped to try it. I guess I sorta set the bar too high. For the three of us, dinner was $170 (with tip). The bill came with a tab of $130 labeled hotpot and there were no list of items we ordered. Was it hotpot buffet? We don't know because there were no communication between us and the waitress. Sad. Mind you, I tipped 20% despite how disappointed I was with the food and service. Good for the experience of a different type of hot pot.

Actually, besides veggies, you can also get meat balls and small sausages, as well as stuff like Inoki mushrooms, "cloud ear" fungus, etc. The selection is pretty big, Then there is a sauce bar where you make your own hotpot dipping sauce. From the menu, you can order all the meats you want. They pretty much have all the items you would expect from a Chinese hotpot restaurant in the Boston or Quincy area. The meats you order come fast, and you can cook them up in your personal sized hotpot. Between the quick service for the meats and your own ability to refill with any veggies you want, you are almost always eating, and you spend almost no time waiting,. All veggies and meats were well presented, fresh, and tasty. Of interest, this restaurant uses robot waiters to help the human ones. So while you are waiting for the meats you ordered, you will often find a robot cart silently rolling up to your table. As soon as this happens, a waitress will quickly appear next to the robot and hand-carry all your plates of meats from the cart to your table.. This is super useful because sometimes the robot cart will be carrying 15-20 dishes, far more than a single waiter or waitress can carry. So this isn't just a gimmick, but a useful tool that speeds up service. I've gone to Hotpot One a total of 3 times, and my dining experience has been consistent and good. I would consider it one of the better places in the Quincy area to have a nice AYCE hotpot dinner,.

The sauce bar was impressive, with tons of bases, oils, herbs, and nut toppings to mix and match. We chose duo broths: the Wild Mixed Mushroom Broth and the Pork Buddy Mala Butter Broth at medium spice. VEGGIE PLATTER The veggie platter came packed with fresh ingredients like lettuce, lotus root, mushrooms, and squash. All the vegetables were crisp and high quality. MEAT ASSORTMENT We ordered wagyu and several cuts of beef, all sliced beautifully and extremely fresh. Everything cooked quickly and soaked up the broth in the best way. SPICY HAMACHI BOMB ROLL This roll with torched hamachi, eel sauce, and mango was delicious and added a nice sushi moment in between the hot pot. Then Covid came, and this restaurant rebranded itself as an a-la-cart Korean BBQ and sushi restaurant. I tried it once after the rebranding. It was relatively expensive, and neither the hotpot nor the sushi stood out. With food that was middling at best and a higher than average price, I didn't feel it was worth returning to. So I haven't visited this place since 2022. Fast forward to last night, my family stayed up to watch football, and we got hungry and wanted to buy some takeout. Many places that we were interested in were closed by 10 PM, and Royal Hotpot was still open. So we bought several items from them for takeout. We live 20 minutes away and did our own pickup. When we got home with the food, we found the following: I had a beef Bibimbop. 20 minutes after pickup from the restaurant, it was already cold. Not ice cold, but room temperature at best. There was no sauce. You eat a Bibimbop by first pouring in the special Bibimbop sauce and getting its taste onto everything. But, as I said, no sauce. The Bibimbop itself? A relatively small bowl that had plenty of rice, a boatload of seaweed that smelled fishy, and not much beef even when I stirred the food around to find what beef I could. There was not much. So, I put a spoonful of rice into my mouth. All I could taste was the fishiness of the seaweed,. There was no beef taste or any other taste that I could discern. So for almost $30 bucks I got a dry bowl if rice and mostly seaweed that was devoid of any taste you could enjoy. It was basically dry seaweed rice, with very little meat, and no sauce. I have eaten Korean food in general and Bibimbop in particular from maybe 20 restaurants in the Greater Boston area. I would rate this one the worst, by a significant margin, that I have ever had. I ended up putting the entire bowl, after two bites, into the fridge. Why didn't I throw it away? I feed stray cats behind my house, and this will go to the cats tonight. The two mouthfuls that I tried to eat? I spit those out into the garbage because it tasted so vile in my mouth. As for the other order, it was mostly sushi. My family member who absolutely LOVES sushi of any kind did eat his order, but he muttered that it was definitely subpar. So there you have it. If you ever have a yen for Korean or Japanese cuisine and you don't find many places open, don't come to this place. Eat some canned food from home, or make some instant noodles. This place, for me, was an awful choice. After putting Royal Hotpot's food away, I made an instant noodle to fill my hunger. that instant noodle was 5 times better than my expensive takeout. Note: I only give 1 star reviews for food that is literally spoiled, or when restaurant staff give egregiously awful service, 2 stars is the rating I generally give for really bad, unenjoyable food.
