I recently visited Yin Ji Chang Fen and left genuinely impressed, especially as someone who loves comforting Cantonese breakfast staples done right. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt casual and authentic -- nothing overly polished, but clean, efficient, and clearly focused on the food. The staff moved quickly, and even during a busy stretch, service felt attentive without being intrusive. The standout for me was the rice noodle rolls (cheung fun). The texture was exactly what I hope for: silky, delicate, and freshly steamed with that slightly elastic bite that tells you they're made properly. The filling was generous without overpowering the noodle itself, and the soy-based sauce added just enough savoriness without drowning the dish. I appreciated how balanced everything tasted -- light, comforting, and incredibly satisfying. The minced beef congee was another highlight. It arrived piping hot with a velvety, almost creamy consistency that only comes from patient cooking. The beef was tender and well-seasoned, blending seamlessly into the porridge while still offering enough texture to keep each spoonful interesting. I especially liked how clean the flavors were -- subtle ginger notes, a gentle savoriness, and no heaviness, making it feel like true comfort food rather than something overly rich. Portion sizes felt fair for the price, and the menu overall offered a strong mix of classic Cantonese breakfast and snack options, which makes me want to return and explore more. This is the kind of spot I'd come back to regularly when I'm craving something warm, nostalgic, and reliably good. Overall, I'd absolutely recommend Yin Ji Chang Fen if you're looking for authentic rice noodle rolls and a well-executed congee in the Quincy area. It's simple food done with care -- and sometimes that's exactly what hits the spot.

This small but clean place has some of the fastest service. We didn't wait too long during lunch time on a Thursday. Food arrived only a few minutes after ordered. We ordered steamed rice rolls with pork and shrimps. They put lettuce inside the steam rice roll which is different than what I normally see. I don't like it. I will ask for them to omit veggies in my rice rolls. Porridge with pork and persevered eggs was yummy. Soy sauce noodles was on point! I would come back to eat more dishes. I wish they had HK milk tea on their menu.

We've been meaning to stop in and try this spot, and for us we were very happy we did. The space was built out so nicely, very cute and clean. Servers were all nice and brought our dishes out quickly. Now some may not feel the same but for us we enjoyed the rice rolls, the rolls had nice texture, good chew and didn't just disintegrate like at dimsum spots. The thickness of the noodle was just right for us. We got the following dishes: + shredded pork w/ preserved egg! So yummy they have all the condiments you'd need right on the table, just ask for the ljy hot oil, white pepper and a drop or two of vinegar. The pork was so tender and we slurped down the congee. Yes by itself, congee is bland (but i feel like that's how congee is supposed to be i mean, many of us eat it when we are sick haha) so i loved this dish. + BBQ pork w/ chives - this wasn't my favorite but the meats were cooked well and the rice rolls again were nice. More bbq flavor would hit! + Dough stick roll - nicely fried dough, good textured didn't taste overdone and oily. + HK style roll w/ special sauces - one of the simplest yet our favorite roll! Peanut sauce, sesame sauce? And soy sauce mixture i believe but it's usually our go to at other spots. Probably grab the congee 2 bowls and the HK style rolls next visit! I thought the price was fine, everywhere is getting expensive for dining out, but most things on menu were 7.95-12.95. Slightly more than a dimsum rice roll order, but better quality.

As a Chinese American this restaurant felt very nostalgic and homely. The food was flavorful and cozy, but overall eating experience could be improved. Food: Everything we ordered basically tasted as good as these simpler comfort food can taste, but it is a treat to find this authentic taste outside of historic Chinatowns. The rice rolls specifically were so springy and fun to eat. This is the type of food you can clear plate after plate. Service: We went pretty soon after opening and there are some service aspects they can continue to improve on like queue management and the seating arrangement. Atmosphere: In a way the noise and hectic energy was nostalgic. The constant bustle of families wrangling their kids and food service really floods the small space. But without that nostalgic veneer and the joy of seeing family's where you might have been decades ago, the dining experience can definitely be more streamlined and customer friendly.

Really enjoyed my visit here! The food came out quickly and everything was flavorful; the congee was comforting and the rice rolls were spot on. The service was great too. If I had one small suggestion, it would be to fry the sweet youtiao (fried crueler) a little longer so it's less dense and more crisp throughout. Despite that, the meal was satisfying, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

No need to go to New York for rice roll, even though they have less selection, but the taste is way better than the Brookline location, even though they offer a different menu. The location was small but clean. Right now, it is still a soft opening and no take-out out but I do see a few people going inside to order take-out. I came around 11ish, there are few tables empty but by the time they finished, there was a line. The service is fast, we finished the meal within 40 minutes. Ox-Tongue pastry - A little oily, but it goes well with the congee since not many bakeries offer this pastry Beef and shrimp rice roll - The beef was soft, and it was sliced beef not like the one in dim sum restuarant and shrimp are bouncy and fresh Pork and shrimp rice roll - Sliced pork was soft and rice roll are soft Boat congee - Wish they put more rice on the congee to make it thicker, but it seems to have the sweet taste from the seafood. I would prefer to come here for rice roll if I am not craving for other dim sum. The portion of the rice roll is larger than the dim sum restuarant. It worth it. If you don't want wait, come early or after peak hours since they only have 13 small tables. Definitely will come back again.

My partner and I shared the R2) pork & shrimp rice roll, R10) chicken & shiitake rice roll, R11) cilantro & scallion rice roll, R12) fried dough rice roll, R17) beef brisket rice roll, C11) fish congee, and A12) home style stir fried rice noodle - TASTE: 4/5 - better than we expected. Highlights included the fresh cilantro & scallion rice roll, savory beef brisket rice roll, homey congee, and the spam in the fried noodles TEXTURE: 5/5 - loved the smooth and bouncy texture of the rice rolls, and crowd favorite: fried dough rice rolls PRICE: 5/5 - budget friendly and would com back. We ordered a lot and our total came to $70 SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - one order contains one large rice roll vs. the typical multiple, smaller pieces at dim sum. The fish congee was big! SERVICE: 4/5 - walked in at 6:30pm on a Tuesday and a few other tables were seated. Our dishes were served 10-15min after ordering, and there was only one waitress ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - space is on the smaller side w maybe 20 seats. Cool to see the Guangzhou-originated chain now here in Quincy PARKING: 4/5 - got a free street spot on Billings Rd. Otherwise, there's Vane St Lot, a free 2-hour parking lot nearby, or more street spots on Hancock St

Yin Ji Chang Fen is the newest addition to North Quincy's food scene! Here they offer a variety of different rice rolls, porridge/congee, and Southern Chinese/Hong Kong appetizers like curry fish balls. Luckily for us, we didn't experience any wait time for a table when we visited the other day for lunch. I will say, service here is quite SLOW. Took forever for someone to come take our order... maybe like 10 min? It wasn't until we walked up to the counter where I'm guessing the owner/manager was & he waved for a server to come take our order. Here's what we ordered: -bbq pork (char siu) rice roll ($6.75) -fried dough rice roll ($8.95) -rice roll w/ mixed sauce ($7.00) -preserved egg & pork congee ($7.75) I think the prices are pretty friendly! The portion sizes were standard and similar to what you'll find at dimsum spots nearby. Our favorites were the rice rolls w/ mixed sauce & preserved egg + pork congee! YOU MUST ask for their hot chili oil, it's very good and a tad different from your usual hot chili oil. I wish the fried dough, itself, was crispier. The bbq pork/char siu rice roll came whole... not sure if it was supposed to be cut and they just forgot or if it was supposed to be like that haha. Made it messy to eat. Overall, I think Yin Ji Chang Fen is pretty all right... definitely hit or miss though. Would for sure come back for the rice rolls w/ mixed sauce & preserved egg + pork congee. Parking: free 2 hr parking spots on Billing Rd & free parking lot across the street tucked behind PTea.

We came on a Sunday. The wait wasn't to bad. We ordered 2 rice rolls, congee, curry fish balls and scallions pancakes. Food came out fast and warm not hot. We had to ask for water. Service was not great. The food was bland. The rice rolls felt reheated because the texture was stiff. The congee was already. The fishballs tasted okay. The scallions pancakes was to thick and sauce was watery. It's overprice was the small portions. Won't recommend this place.

Yin Ji Chang Fen is a popular chain of Cantonese rice roll shops, and this is their first location in the Boston area. The place is on the smaller side, with several tables, though most of them only seat two people. Service is quick and efficient, and the food comes out fast. We ordered the pork jook and a few different rice rolls. The rice rolls themselves aren't too oily and have a good flavor; they might be a little plain without the soy sauce, but they're still pretty good. The jook has a light ginger scent to it, though there's no actual ginger in the bowl. It's also on the soupier side, not super thick. The portion sizes are really generous, and there's a good amount of toppings mixed in. It's a solid spot for a quick, comforting meal and fills a niche for this kind of Cantonese breakfast and snack food in Boston.

This place is a hidden Gem, you walk in and the windows and door spotless like the rest of place very clean here. Inside the decor and lighting was perfect not to bright or dark. Service was very good once I figured out what to get she came right over to take my order. The food came out quick and hot. Every order was delicious but my favorite was the pork& shrimp rice roll. This is a place to put on your bucket list. Well done here keep up what your doing here and don't change.

Amazing Cantonese restaurant originally hailing from Guangzhou, China (my ancestoral hometown). They are known for their tasty, customizable congee and fresh rice rolls, which are 10 times better than the rice rolls you get at dim sum. For years, I had to venture down to Flushing to get their congee. At last, they finally open one up in Quincy! The restaurant is small just like the Flushing one. I would say the Flushing location has an overall better tasting congee, but this location has way better Chinese donuts (very crispy)!!! Also, this location needs to add oysters as a congee topping.

    Boston Tasting D.

This place is my new go to place for congee, noodles and rice rolls! It's delicious but pricey! Always try the rice rolls and noodles!!

We ordered a rice roll as usual--the female owner accidentally handed the dish to another table, and it sat there for about five minutes or so, while the couple was talking over the dish. Then the female owner apparently realized the dish was handed to the wrong table, she took it back into the kitchen (as a deception, thinking we wouldn't realize it's the same dish, we saw her through the curtain, she was holding the same dish the whole time--she didn't know we were watching and rightfully suspicious of what she was sneakily doing), then brought it out right back to our table. We did not want to say anything. But it was disgusting, people do spit onto the dish when they talk over it during those five minutes, you know? We were too shy to cause a scene or destroy the long standing relationship. Further, we couldn't afford to let that $12 or so dish go to waste. So we tried eating it. Afterward, we felt so disgusted. And that was the last time we went to Big Fun Cafe. Two years or so ago. Even after learning of its new location in Brookline, we are just so disgusted by the memory of the incident described above -- so we never tried their Brookline location. Note to the owners: for future customers, such mistakes do happen, but please have some integrity and just discard/trash the contaminated dish -- or if you want to be so cheap, eat the contaminated dishes yourself. Don't be so stingy and deceptive so as to hand it to your presumed naive customers. That was extremely disgusting and even two years later, we're still disgusted by it.

I had the chicken tomato macaroni soup, a comforting, flavorful bowl of nostalgia. The chicken was freshly fried and super tasty, exactly why Hong Kong cha chaan teng comfort food is a thing. My friend got the chicken pineapple bun, and while the bun wasn't a perfect replica of the classic (or what we'd prefer, a genuine bo lo bao), I'm now thinking maybe a sturdier bun makes sense to hold it all together. (Maybe I shouldn't have been so upset at Rubato in my last review. HMM.) It tasted good, and I appreciated the cute "Time to Bread" toothpick flag. The Ovaltine French toast was a showstopper. It looks unassuming, then you cut in and BOOM! Chocolate lava oozes out. It's sweet, but hey, dessert is dessert. Prices were reasonable, around $11 for the pineapple bun, $13 for my hearty soup. We walked in and it was the most casual, laid-back establishment. The green color scheme and plants gave it a more earthy vibe, which I absolutely loved. Since we didn't necessarily know what to order we decided to split the fried chicken bolo. When I tell you, I have not stopped thinking about that sandwich since I ate it, I'm not kidding. It was absolutely delicious. My husband, who was resistant to even going in the first place, kept telling everyone around town about it. We will not skip a beat when in Quincy next to visit this establishment. Thanks for an awesome experience.

First, a caveat: I didn't grow up with Hong Kong cafe (茶餐廳, cha chaan teng) nostalgia, and I'm also…read morebiased. Ever since Double Chin Restaurant in Chinatown closed (may she rise again), I've been on a mission to find a worthy fried chicken bolo bao. My friend and I trudged into Rubato on a cold, rainy day, hoping for a replacement. Spoiler alert: we did not find one. We ordered four items: rice rolls with curry fish balls, an egg custard lava bun, Ovaltine French toast, and the fried chicken bolo bao. The rice rolls were mild but fine, topped with enough cilantro and scallion to keep it interesting. The lava bun was hot, gooey, and did its job. (GOOD JOB, LAVA BUN!) The Ovaltine French toast? Eh, it aite. But here's the heartbreak: the chicken bolo bao. The chicken wasn't hot; it had that "sat around" feeling. And the bun? Just a dressed-up brioche, missing that true bo lo bao magic. A brioche bun with a crackly top is not a bo lo bao, my dudes. In short, everything was edible, but nothing made me want to come back. (It's not like watching like a hawk for an empty seat and swooping in the moment one opens up is any fun.) The chicken deserved better.
