Ate here last night with my friend...I accidentally left my card at the table. I started getting texts of fraudulent transactions on the card that evening at various stores around the area. When I called today, the server denied it, and another employee that answered the phone nonchalantly told me it didn't happen. Today my friend returned to the restaurant and saw security footage of my card being pocketed by our server after we left. My credit card was pink and we were the only customers there. I would like my cash tip returned, as well as an apology. I'm more offended because our server seemed like a hard working guy also taking to-go orders, and was very nice to us. He is a thief. I've been coming here for years, so I figured I should finally give this place my review. Sushi is probably my favorite food, so trying to find a local spot that is affordable and reliable is really important to me. Koi Sushi is my go to spot living in the Pinole/Richmond area. We get the same exact rolls every single time - Lion King, Koi Special Roll, Alaskan Roll, and 2 orders of Hamachi Sashimi. All that food comes out to $50! Usually at other sushi bars, $50 gets me 2 rolls and MAYBE a Hamachi Sashimi. I feel like I judge sushi restaurants based on their Hamachi - Price, Portion size, and Freshness. Koi Sushi is one of the only spots where they check ALL those boxes. Their Hamachi always tastes fresh and they give fat slices for like $7 for three! Being from the deep Midwest with limited sushi options it's amazing to find plenty of sushi options near the west coast and even more amazing that's it hard finding a bad one. Made a stop here visiting relatives in the area. I had the under the sea roll and spicy tuna roll. Very fresh tasting and the pieces were huge! Almost too big but still manageable and really good! I'm so glad I found this place! They offer so many different items in their menu. I called in to place an order and the food was ready in 15 minutes. The parking can be limited, but I never had trouble since a lot of people go in and out quickly to grab their food. For appetizers, we had their jalapeño bomb and takoyaki which were both delicious! I realized that not a lot of sushi places offer these so I'm glad I got to try them out. All their appetizers are also under $10 which makes it even better. We got two dinner bentos where you order one from Row A and Row B. Just a heads up, if you want to order from the same row, it'll cost a little extra. I really liked how you can order a roll in one of the rows. I usually get the tiger or tempura roll from Row A and tempura mix or salmon teriyaki in Row B. They also come with salad and miso soup on the side so I'm sure getting a bento will fill you up. Overall, I love this place! Their service is quick and the prices are reasonable. Just a hungry Uber driving passing through San Pablo. I was craving something affordable, and ricey or noodley. All the places I found were about to close! (8:30 on a Saturday? Really?) I found Koi and was pleased to see it packed, but with an available table for one. All I got were the veggie roll and hamachi nigiri (torched), and it was the perfect amount of food and sooooo good that I actually "mmmmm-d" out loud. The veg roll is huge, btw. Todays visit to local Koi Sushi was very pleasant. When I arrived I was quickly greeted with fast and nice service which was a surprise because this place was full! I ordered my usual food and it was good per usual. The chicken teriyaki from the bento box was cooked perfectly with its juice and sauce adding wonderful flavor to its surroundings. One downside of my meal though was the small size of the California rolls, they're usually decently sized and instead today they were very tiny which was a disappointment. Other than that, I would recommend this establishment as a very trustworthy and delicious meal for not an expensive price! 9/10 for sure and would come again to experience the wonderful ambiance and food. read more

The sushi was all delicious and the California Roll was stuffed with crab and cream cheese...rich and yummy. The Veggie Roll was unique and quite tasty with strips of the most perfectly cooked sweet potato. The shrimp roll was made to our instructions and great. The salad was fresh and crunchy. They have a huge range of Japanese menu items on the Yelp app for takeout and delivery such as appetizers, special rolls, basic rolls, donburi bowls, bento boxes (with multiple options), and ramen. We ordered a Bento Dinner Box, Sakura Roll, and Tuna Roll. I had badly been craving sushi so this satisfied that craving for sure. It wasn't the highest quality sushi, but I can't complain. Was craving for Japanese food so I decided to try this one local. The wait time was not to long at 10-15 minutes for takeout. Now the food looks really great and I was so excited to eat it but to be honest the flavor was bland, the only order that was ok was the tempura mix which I had to heavy dip in sauce. You can't go wrong with fried I say. Also the salad that comes with the bento literally had a few pieces so it was done with one bite. My sister likes their sushi and prices so she had us go back. If you get just the sushi, all seems to be ok, as long as you don't expect to be checked on. After a not terrible redemption visit, we came another time, letting our guard down. I ordered sushi. It was solid, especially for the price. She ordered the beef teriyaki. It arrived and the meat was cold. So cold, she couldn't eat it. She called over the server to tell him. His response was to instantly get defensive and explain to me (as if I had something to do with it), that they have a camera in the kitchen and can prove that it was hot meat that they just cooked, but they put it in cold sauce. So my sister asks...why would you put hot meat in cold sauce...it made my dish cold. He gets agitated and explains how this is how they do it. Good lord, it would have been so simple for them to just...take the plate, warm it up, and apologize. She asked him to warm the sauce and instead he kept fighting her, while mostly only addressing me, and then just took the dish away and brought us the check with the dish no longer on there. So sad. This is my second time placing an order from Koi Sushi and so far, this restaurant makes me keep coming back for more! Before COVID-19, I've never experienced Koi Sushi. However, I wanted to try new and local restaurants from around the area. Thus, the first two times I ordered from Koi Sushi have been really positive experiences. The fish is incredibly fresh and melt in your mouth kind of thing which is what I look for in sushi. Because of that, I keep coming back due to the quality of their fish. Besides, they always follow the instructions I leave for them through Uber Eats. Not only are their rolls soooooo good, but the service with how they follow instructions as well. Just ordered from here and got 3x teriyaki beef, 2 extra miso soups, jalapeño bomb, fried soft shell crab, the koi Special, TNT and Ocean roll. The food was good definitely hit the spot but they lost a point because of their teriyaki beef... We ordered 3 medium rare and it comes with miso soup already which was awesome but the meat was cold and tough (the fried soft shell crab was still hot in comparison) . Not much teriyaki sauce / flavor just a light drizzle but it wasn't bad. I wouldn't recommend this dish for 14$ though. The jalapeño bomb was pretty good and very unique. They were very generous with the tuna but there was barely just a sliver of cream cheese. Definitely something to try but wouldn't order again. So out of the three rolls the Ocean was my favorite as well as my boyfriends! I would definitely recommend it, it was sooOO good. I don't even need soy sauce for it. The next roll was the koi special I was really looking forward to it but was a little disappointed. It wasn't bad but it was mostly crab imitation and like a leg or two of soft shell crab. (As shown in on of the following pictures) Lastly, my boyfriend was really looking forward to the TNT but it wasn't a good roll. The scallop wasn't torched but I definitely get the lingering smell of gas in my mouth afterwards. Be careful when ordering online as there isn't an option to dine-in. I placed an order for lunch and managed to make it to the restaurant earlier. Upon entering I was told my food order was ready, which was great. I have driven by here for many years, and I finally tried it. We actually found it by accident as we were in the freeway I was searching for sushi spots near my location, and this popped up. From the outside it doesn't look like this place gets much traffic since it's in a small plaza right across from what used to be the old hospital. The place is a little small, but it is well decorated in the inside so, that's a plus. They have lights stringing from the ceiling, which gives it a cute vibe and also nice paintings on the walls. Food: Appetizer: - Gyoza: It was lightly crispy on the outside, and not too hard. I would definitely order the Gyoza again. -Soft Shell Crab: It was really soft, and it took awhile to arrive, but i thought that it was a bit too salty for me. I had a sushi roll - They Lion King, it was really good. Sometimes i feel like the lion king can be too dry when they overcook the salmon on top. But this was just right, it was so good that i went with someone who doesn't eat sushi, and he actually really liked it! He also ate half of my roll which I wasn't too pleased with. But, at least he was trying something new. He ordered the Bento box with chicken terriyaki, and tempura. He loved the salad, but was not fond of the chicken terriyaki. I tasted it, and the chicken was really really salty. So, it was really hard to eat when a meal is extremely salty. Also, this was the number one thing that took so long to come out too. I've been to this establishment a number of times. They were around before the pandemic. I have even ordered from them several times during the pandemic for my childrens birthday parties.
