We live in an area that allows for very limited street parking They park and take up 2 stalls on the street, not allowing residents in the area to park in front of or behind their truck. Even when it's time for them to go, residents are waiting for them to leave, they just sit in their truck for 10-15 minutes when they could clearly move out of the way and let other people park. We went online and made an appointment, they immediately replied with an auto response and then within 24 hours received an confirmation of our appointment. We need subfloor, joist replacement and are remodeling our bathroom. We made several consultation appointments with contractors and Kokuaconstruction was the first to confirm the appointment. On the morning of the visit, he came and inspected our foundation, he mentioned things that we didn't noticed and told us things we didn't need(another contractor said we needed Beam replacement but kokua said they were fine). We own a 40 year old house in Kapolei needs major improvements and decided to remodel the entire house plus build a second floor. I was referred to Kokua Construction by a good friend who recently had Danny do some work at his home. Kokua Construction did a wonderful job renovating my parents home. They modernized the kitchen, living room and hallway. Installing beautiful cabinets, recessed lighting, ceiling fans and laminate flooring. Everything in the home was original from the 70's and my parents had no clue what they wanted to do. Just that they wanted an island to open up the kitchen, add more cabinets and to remove the old 1970's carpet and install laminate flooring. Danny was so patient with my parents. Every conversation was easy for my mom to understand (English is her second language) and he even allowed us to see some examples of his recessed lights and flooring. This made it much easier for my mom to see what their house could look like. His crew works very hard, are organized and clean up after themselves every day. My parents are in their 70's and Danny went above and beyond when he found out my father is losing feeling in his hands. He changed out all the door knob handles to lever style handles at no charge. My parents purchased a new oven, two French doors, a new entry door and security door from Lowes and Danny offered to pick them up with his vehicles to save us the delivery fee. When all was said and done, the job came out beautifully. My parents couldn't be happier. Last but not least, Danny is an honest man. We forgot that because we did some of the demolition and removal before his crew started, some of the cost would be removed. He gave them $1000 back, even though my parents didnt know it was owed to them. Danny Cho falls in the category of contractors that do not stand behind their work. Previously, hired Danny Cho to renovate two homes (bathroom and kitchen). Paying over $30k each for renovating the kitchen and bath. Keep in mind, each home was only 700 square foot (total living square footage). Big price for a small home. I had an issue with one of my kitchen cabinet falling apart from the base. Contacted Danny Cho and informed him about my situation. He said he would follow up with the issue and call me back. Never heard back from him. You would expect a high price payed for a renovation would be taken care of if problems arise in the future. Renovating an apartment/home is extremely stressful but Danny really went out of his way to make the process as easy as possible for us. We needed a complete overhaul of our really old apartment one-bedroom unit in a high-rise from the flooring installation, building a closet, tear down of the kitchen, new cabinets, walls, new carpet, french doors, lighting, electric, plumbing... During his free in-home estimate, he brought up a lot of good suggestions and considerations we hadn't considered. He was always very honest with us from the beginning which we really appreciated. We told him what we wanted and he would tell us if that wouldn't work or if he had a better idea rather than just doing whatever we wanted, he would help us make better decisions. He tried to save us money at every step but made sure quality was always still there. He accommodated many requests as we were travelling internationally during half the renovation and would pick up items on our behalf at stores that we forgot to get. While we were travelling, he would make sure to keep in touch, sending pictures and updates. He was always in touch even on weekends/nights..which we felt a little bad about. He was willing to meet us at home improvement stores to help us pick out items if needed. We also have very strict apartment rules and limited construction hours which he would work around and never seemed fazed by. Basically, his company completed the project ahead of schedule, on budget and saved us money along the way (so I guess underbudget). We can't even recognize our apartment now. We love the way it turned out and he was easy to work with. He also added a few things we didn't even ask for just because he thought we needed it like a new garbage disposal. A few months ago, Danny and his crew renovated our kitchen, three bathrooms and flooring for the entire house. As the worked progressed, we thought of other things we wanted done in the house and Danny very graciously agreed to do the extra work. Since we lived in the house while the renovations were being done, we could see the progress daily. The crew worked diligently and efficiently and the renovations were completed in five weeks. Danny takes pride in the work being done and personally oversaw the project every day and it showed in the final product. Recently, we wanted additional work done outside of the house so we contacted Danny again. He willingly accepted the job and started work within a few days. The crew lead by Arturo did a fantastic job on the work we wanted done. They especially went the extra mile when they installed overhead steel racks in our garage. Because of the steel beams and placement of the studs in our garage, it was a challenge to install the racks. My husband and I met Danny Cho when Kokua Construction was onsite to make bathroom wall repairs after a condominium plumbing project. Rather than only fixing the walls, we wanted to replace the old existing tub and vanity cabinets and incorporate senior friendly accessibility and safety features for the future. As we shared our thoughts, Danny offered suggestions (with no obligation for us to use Kokua). Danny was easy to talk to and understood our needs. He provided great ideas and we liked his work style and attention to detail. We recently completed 3 projects with Danny and Kokua Construction. 1) Bathroom renovation; converted the old bathtub to a walk-in shower, rebuilt the deteriorated ceiling, repaired the walls, updated the vanity area with new cabinets, sinks and quartz countertop, and installed the new shower fixtures, grab bars, faucets and lighting we selected. The new bathroom and vanity area far exceed our expectations. 2) Kitchen renovation; the cabinets were breaking down and the layout was outdated and not space efficient. Danny suggested a kitchen island concept to enhance functionality and convenience. The team demolished the old kitchen and installed new cabinets and quartz countertop (matches to the vanity). We love the contemporary look and practical design. 3) Installed pantry cabinets and repaired bedroom closet walls and added a closet system. The pantry looks great and significantly increased storage space. The closet system kit was too heavy to transport, so Danny picked it up, then his team assembled and installed it for us. His team also removed and discarded the huge, cumbersome sliding closet doors. The result is just what we wanted! We appreciated Danny's integrity regarding a credit on our bathroom renovation (an additional portion was paid related to the condo's plumbing project) and he applied it towards our kitchen renovation. From the initial site assessment to final walk-through, we communicated directly with Danny. As issues came up, Danny took care of it and made it right. His teams advised him of the work progress and any matters were resolved quickly. It was a pleasure working with a business owner who operated with a "hands-on" approach. Last year, we bought a condo in Waikiki and needed a complete renovation. We got quotes from a few contractors but Danny was the most responsive, and his price was fair. He was very accommodating and would answer my texts and phones calls even after hours and on weekends. His quote for the entire project was clear, no hidden costs, and they had 3D drawings of the kitchen and bathroom before work started to ensure accuracy. We gutted everything and had a full major construction: new kitchen, new bathroom, converted tub to shower, new flooring... everything was new. The project was scheduled for 6 weeks, with some hiccups along the way and delays with the work, but overall, the project was completed on schedule. Danny was reliable throughout the entire renovation and delivered everything as promised. A year had passed, one of the recessed lights stop working, turned out to be the transformer. I tried replacing it myself but due to the recessed nature, I couldn't get to the wiring. I called Danny, asked if he could help find the part and replace the burnt-out transformer. He sent over his electrician a couple of weeks later with the right part and fixed it for free. It would have cost me $250 to hire an electrician on my own. We recently had Kokua Construction work on renovating my mom's house and they were awesome! I called seven different contractors, many who have really good reviews on Yelp. I was a bit weary about doing the renovations since my coworkers who are also getting work done on their houses all seemed to be having one issue or another with their contractors. Of the seven I called, two did not even bother to call me back. One of the contractors who were highly recommended by my friend gave me an estimate that was really high. I think he assumed he was going to get the job and was surprised that I went with someone else. Another one gave me an estimate that was not complete, and another one told me what needed to be done rather than me telling him what I needed to be done. The contractor with the lowest bid was rude and was also not willing to work with my schedule. Danny's estimate was clear, detailed, and he was also able to get started right away. He walked me through the process and answered all my questions. He listened to what I wanted but also offered good recommendations. As soon as we signed the contract, he bought all the materials and delivered it to the house in couple days. With the materials there his crews did not have to wait for things to get delivered to progress the work. I also saw that he used the first installment payment to actually purchase materials for the house. We initially contracted to have two bathrooms redone. I did not want to bother with selecting all of the hardware, tiles, cabinet style, etc. so I just told Danny what I did not want and he picked out a really nice color scheme. After they started work, we also asked Danny to redo some of the floors. He quoted us price that was comparable to another quote we got and worked with us to find flooring that we liked within our price range. He brought us several samples to chose from, and when he learned that the one we wanted was out of stock, he quickly found us a suitable replacement. I could not believe how fast they got the floors done especially after the schedule we got from another contractor. His crews were also very courteous and kept the work area clean. My mother was living in the house while the work was being done and I wasn't sure how that would work out. However they were alway pleasant, picked up after themselves, and very friendly. They worked really fast and did such a good job that we decided to get the kitchen redone too. Again Danny worked with me and my budget, listened to what I wanted, and came up with a good design. During the job, we discovered that the gas line was where we did not expect it to be, but Nicky was able to figure out a work around and we ended up with a better design. Danny also got us contractor pricing on appliances and a fancy Toto toilet and did not charge us any markup on those things. Kokua is now definitely our go to contractor and we will call Danny again when we need to get more work done. read more
