It is sooooooo hard to review mechanics. You always feel like you are waiting for the other shoe to drop. But so far so good with this family owned and operated business. I contacted them when my 2002 Volkswagen stalled while driving and they were the first to say yes just drop it by. During the process they were very good at communicating what they found, costs, solutions. With an older car like mine the truth is there are multiple things that could be repaired. Charlie was great with explaining options, giving fair pricing, and giving timelines by which the other items needed to be taken care of. My car was running much better for about 1.5 months and then it stalled again. This time requiring a tow. I took it back to them, with a 'tude because you know, hey, why is the same stuff happening. They were cool as cukes with my 'tude. They had to keep it a little longer this time to figure out how to repair it what I love is they explained the diagnosis process, why they were sure it was the repair they were recommending but explained how they would deal with it if they were incorrect. It is currently running well (yes I waited a little before writing this review). Fingers Crossed :). Some logistics tips for you guys, ladies if you don't like being called sweetheart or chile, move. No, just joking! I am sure they would use your actual name if you asked, I have a thing for southern culture so it is a plus to me. They may park your car on the street. This I don't like but they truly are always packed and I think it is just easier than dealing with the logistics of figuring out where to park when you don't know when folks will be picking up the cars. This is most unfortunate. I live in Los Angeles and my daughter lives in NOLA. One of things I spend money on when I visit (Dads spend money) is car repair. Kollin's came highly recommended from a friend whose daughter lived there. I called a few days before the visit and they said to just come in. I did come in early one morning and they were terse and unfriendly and said they were busy. I came back at closing and they had not touched the car and were quite rude but wanted me to leave it because they "MIGHT" be able to get to it the next day. I just left and no longer have a place in NOLA to take my daughter's car. read more

The interaction I just had with this place was insane, beyond anything I've ever experience, and super unprofessional. I've been here a couple times before and had good service but after today, there is no way I'm returning or recommending this place anymore. I arrive, there is no one to be seen. I walk up to the desk and wait a couple minutes and decide to call to see if anyone's available. When I called the lady said she was handling paperwork in the office and would be out in just a second. Which is fine, no complaints there. I decided to run to the store and come back later, just as soon as I was going to call her back and tell her I'd be back later, I get a call from a man and he immediately starts the conversation with "who do you think you are?! You can't wait a few minutes for us to come out?" He continued to yell at me over the phone and wouldn't let me get one word in. I told him he was very rude, that he needed to learn how to speak to customers, and that I was not returning. Newsflash, yelling at your customer=not a good way to do business. Such a shame he couldn't be kind and professional. They need to get rid of this toxic person, whoever he is because he will surely ruin this business. Update: after calling me multiple times he left me a very sarcastic voicemail "apologizing" and stating that "putting air in peoples tires doesn't pay the bills" (they charge $10 btw), that he's "short staffed" that he's moving and that he "has groceries to get too", etc. All things that should have nothing to do with the way you treat a customer if you are running a proper business!! I'm in customer service and manage multiple businesses and if one of my employees ever, EVER interacted with a customer like this, they'd be fired on the spot. Again, this is crazy. Kollins is such a neighborhood gem! I have had nails in my tire twice, and even with a packed garage, Charlie will take the time out to patch them. This has saved me from being late to work and to pick up my daughter. He is funny, kind, and honest. read more

I cannot recommend Kollin Service Station enough to service your car. My experience with them was specific to my tire. I had a bolt lodged into the tread of my tire and initially took it to Firestone. They told me that it was in the sidewall (which it wasn't) and I needed to buy a new tire (which I didn't). It also took them about 24 hours to even look at my tire so I was without my car for a day and in the end they were just trying to sell me a new tire that I didn't need. I heard about Kollin from a friend of mine and took my car there instead. They called me back so quickly after dropping it off (about 15 minutes) that I thought they were going to tell me they couldn't remove the bolt. But no! They were calling to say they already put in the patch and someone (Firestone) overinflated my tire so they took care of that as well. The whole thing cost about $30, and they were so quick and nice. I will be returning to Kollin for all of my car servicing needs! read more

I have been taking my car to Kollin's Service Station for about 3-4 years since moving to New Orleans. What keeps me coming back is there honesty, efficiency and price point. They are always more than willing to fit me in, even when I've swung by near closing time. I trust that I'm getting a fair deal and that they are only doing what is absolutely needed for my vehicle. I also appreciate the time they take to really explain what is going on... whether it's tire or engine related. I've never felt taken advantage of, which has not been the case at other service shops. Happened upon Kollins Service after getting a flat tire uptown! They were super friendly and very accommodating! Charlie was able to replace a completely blown tire in under 15 minutes and for such great price! We love using small family owned businesses and Charlie and Ashley were the best! If you are looking for good honest service, head to Kollins. Cannot say enough good things about the owner, he is always helpful and friendly. Had a low tire and busted the sidewall on my tire a few weeks back. My truck is old and I'm not looking to spend a lot on tires. I called another local place and it was going to be $800 to mount and balance 2 new rear tires. I went to Kollins and they sold me 2 used tires for $80 cash. They even mounted, balanced and installed not to mention put the spare back up while I was there. It took 20 minutes! The other place wanted me to drop the car in the morning and pick up after 4. Last week I got a nail in one of the "new" used tires so I dropped it off to get plugged. Went to pick up today and they were pretty busy and told me 40 minutes. I asked if I could use the jack and install myself. They say no problem and of course before I was done, the owner came to ratchet down the lug nuts. Before I was done the owner tells me no charge! I insisted and gave him all the cash I had, $13. He was very reluctant to accept. Made my day. They have always been straight with me here and they have a customer for life. read more

He offered to have it patched and back on within the hour but I didn't have time to stick around so I came back the next day and he put it back on in less than 5 minutes from me pulling in. I haven't been here in 1 1/2 years, but I would be happy to review them! They have been nothing but FAIR AND HONEST mechanics! I used to go to them all the time, but I have a new car, so things are pretty stable. When ever I had a problem, I would go to them and they were always there for me and my family. I should go by just to keep in the loop. I don't think they sell gas any more, just a full service repair shop. Went to get tires. They were fast, efficient, very kind. Found me four tires at a reasonable price, put them on the car and I was on my way in about an hour. I waited until my service was finished to review, since I'd went to about 4 other service centers getting quotes and meeting mechanics...this place was awesome. I went to a competitor who was incredibly friendly and helpful on the phone, then rude in person. Charlie (Lil' Charlie, the son, as he calls himself) was incredibly kind, remembered my phone call from the day before, and helped me within about 10 minutes of arriving. I left my lights on a few weeks ago and with my daily commute only drive about an hour a day it never really got back where it was before charge wise. My battery was about 3 years old and I went to Advanced Auto Parts, Crescent City Automotive, and called others on my search. We figured out the battery was low in charge but alternator okay. One place said it had a bad cell. One place wanted $50 to install. I was finding the average for the battery was between $100-$150, which was high, but average price apparently. Charlie said if my battery gave me trouble or didn't solve he issue I could return it, and said that if he could get to the battery with little trouble the max he would change for installation (if anything) would be $5 or $10. Charlie immediately went to work on my battery even though he had other cars waiting. Since I wasn't in a hurry and didn't want to jump in line, or seem impatient, I told him that I didn't mind waiting and didn't want to line jump. He said I was the first person to ever say that, and he really appreciated it, but they do it all the time. They had several cars open and working on them and that he had some he had to let sit or run, and could fit small tasks in between the bigger ones. Excellent service. Forgot to mention they had to order my tiny battery for the Chevy Aveo 2004, and they had it for me the next morning. Charlie ordered it for me even though I told him I was still pricing around, and told me he'd have it just incase ready for me. He noticed my hood was flapping a little too, and spent about 10 minutes looking for scraps to MAKE me a thing to keep it closed snugly at no charge. I didn't even mention it to him. So impressed. All of this within 20 minutes. Charlie also apparently patched my boyfriends car, I just found out. He also had a great experience and it was only $10! read more

These guys are simply the best. I live around the corner from the shop, and unfortunately had a flat tire one morning before work. Even though they do not offer roadside assistance, he offered to walk over to my house with me and check out the tire. When he took it off, he noticed that the tire had been slashed as had a few others in the neighborhood. He changed it right there in front of my house so I wouldn't have to have it towed. I might have paid a little more than going to Walmart for a new tire, but it was totally worth it to have such great customer service. read more

My Daughter needed her car repaired prior to driving 17,000 miles North. A good friend recommended Kollin Service Station. Both Owner, Son and all Employees encountered were professional, kind, and upfront about what needed to be done. Additionally and of utmost importance, they quoted us an excellent price for parts and labor as well as keeping us informed...Unfortunately, the car was flooded a day before it was scheduled for repairs, (then totaled). I dropped off my car to have the power steering hose and headlights replaced. I was told someone would call me with a quote. No one called and when I came to pick it up, they presented my with a $380 bill. I was pretty upset that no one called to get my approval before doing the repairs. I would have liked the option to get my own parts (they paid full price for a hose that I could have gotten for $50 less at Autozone) or get a second opinion. I voiced this concern, so he gave me $20 off my bill... still not worth being forced to pay $360 that I was not prepared to pay. Can't help but feel like I was ripped off. read more

These guys are awesome. They treat you well, do great work and are completely fair. A couple times they were unable to do the work I needed and both times recommended me to trustworthy locations that could. My wife was is in New Orleans one day for business and was about to get on the interstate to head back to Mobile, AL when she noticed her tire pressure was getting low. Being from out of town in this situation can make some people feel stressed and vulnerable and my wife definitely fits into this category. Anyway, I recall seeing this service center in the past and told her to try it as it looked to be on the up and up. Glad she did. They immediately put her at ease with a clean and comfortable environment. They found a screw in her tire and a hole where another one had been. They patched her up and her back on the road in no time and at a very reasonable price. She said the people at Kollins were very friendly and understanding. Many shops these days won't even patch a tire, make you buy a new one. Certainly glad we found this place. I appreciate you all taking care of my wife while I wasn't there. It's nice to know there are people/businesses you can count on even from far away.
