I have been seeing Dr Komae for only a few years. He is honest and not out to rip you off. I had just moved to the area and was dealing with a mess that another dental company had made. Dr Komae kindly offered and wrote a letter to my insurance company that helped get me out of the mess from the previous dental company. He is one of the nicest, most gentle dentists I've had in all my 45 years. I have a lot of anxiety when it comes to just a cleaning. Sadly, in this business, there seem to be fewer and fewer trustworthy people out there who are truly out for the health of their patients. I saw Dr. Komae today, at the referral of my dear parents, who had been seeing him for over 10 years. He was gentle and patient, letting me rant breathlessly and almost tearfully for 20 minutes straight about how terrible my last experience was with Dr. Niu (see my review for Irvine Dental Group). Dr. Komae explained that my sensitivity to cold was probably due to incorrect bite, which I knew I had after the awkward filling job I received prior. He buffed down some of my fillings, and calmed my fears, letting me know that I didn't have any new cavities and that my gums were in good shape. He explained that many dentists out there will "jump the gun" when they see a stain on a tooth, and perform procedures and fillings that just aren't necessary. The dental hygienist was just as nice as the doctor, and assured me that they would not do anything without my approval first, and that they would not suggest any unnecessary procedures. This should be a GIVEN at ANY dentist's office. But unfortunately, I learned first hand that it's not true. Step-by-slow-step, I'm getting over my fear of going to the dentist. read more

My husband had come to this dentist about 5 yrs ago. I hadn't been to a dentist in about 6, my last visit was newport dental and it was not very positive. I also have anxiety and really don't like people touching my teeth. Now that my daughter is 3...i have to be a good example and go regularly. We all went as a family. 830 appointment all of us out by 930. That is with both myself and husband getting x-rays. Everyone is very friendly and treats you like family. Dr komae is very quick, nice and is honest about things. (I had a dead tooth) he explains things wonderfully. The woman who cleaned all of our teeth was also very nice and quick. I had a very good experience here. If all my dental experiences were like this I might have gotten my teeth cleaned more often. Again....I really dread people cleaning my teeth or touching them. I have 4 kids they seamlessly got them into check ups with no apprehension and they enjoy going to the dentist. Last year, I was fitted for a crown by Dr Komae and his endodontist Dr Lies. A couple weeks ago, I went to another dentist letting them know I was have excruciating pain where the crown was. After an X-ray was done, they discovered that not only had there been a significant amount of decay under the crown, but the crown itself was fitting improperly. So much so, it required an implant. Komae is a nice guy don't get me wrong, but knowing they basically botched my crown causing me to spend thousands on an implant really got me angry. Thanks a lot guys. read more

I've been going to Dr. Komae since I was 3 years old. His level of personal care and professionalism with his clients is the reason why I'll keep going back as long as he practices! I completely trust him with treatment options and recommendations. I had not seen him in a few years, but when I came back for a visit he had my file ready to go, and remembered everything regarding my past history. Our whole family has been going to Dr. Komae or Dr. Lake for over 20 years, then last year, our insurance was changed and we had to visit another HB dentist who claimed my son needed all this work done and most of it wouldn't be covered by insurance... So glad that we will be able to come back to Dr. Komae in July!! read more

As I was leaving after my last visit to install a permanent cap on a root canal...I was asked/told that if I wanted to keep my future cleaning appointment I would have to pay for it out of pocket...Dr. Komae no longer accepted my insurance. This, from the very nice receptionist lady. I never got a word from Dr. Komae. But it's ok, I found a really good dentist closer to home. I guess Dr. Komae had to make a business decision. How many people can say they love their dentist? Well, I am one of those people. Dr. Komae is a down-to-earth dentist who takes care of his patients with common sense and genuine concern for their well-being. He doesn't recommend unnecessary procedures, but he still ensures a patient's good dental health. Over the years, he has personally called to check up on me after more complicated dental procedures, and he even called me after an oral surgery visit with another dentist/oral surgeon. I feel like I am more than just another patient to him, and that's worth its weight in gold to me. A good example would be, Dr. Komae once mentioned he would mail me an article about knee surgery after a conversation we had during a regular office visit. Sure enough, a few days later, I received the article from him. A dentist who cares for people beyond dentistry is priceless, and Dr. Komae is one of those dentists.
