Outside cool - unassuming entrance in an alley

I have eaten at enough sushi restaurants to know the formula. Step 1: Install bamboo. Step 2: Add a dragon. Step 3: Play mysterious flute music. Step 4: Name every roll after either a volcano, a ninja, or an apocalypse. Komodo Loco apparently looked at that formula and said, "Nah." This place has actual character. The restaurant is dark and cool without feeling like you're being interrogated. There are cozy little nooks everywhere, and somehow it manages to feel both laid-back and upscale. Like if a speakeasy and a sushi restaurant had a child who grew up with excellent taste. Then the food arrived. Look, I've had plenty of sushi. I've had good sushi. I've had "my friend won't stop talking about this sushi" sushi. Komodo Loco belongs in the last category. The fish was incredibly fresh, but what really stood out was that the rolls didn't all taste like slight variations of spicy mayo negotiating with cream cheese. The flavors were genuinely original. We ordered the Crispy Rice Bites, the T-Dub Roll, and the Horacio Roll based on our server's recommendations. The Crispy Rice Bites were so good I briefly considered ordering a second round before I had finished the first. The T-Dub Roll disappeared from the plate so quickly that I suspect it may have violated several laws of physics. The Horacio Roll was one of those dishes that makes you stop talking mid-sentence and stare into the middle distance while reconsidering every life choice that led you to not order two of them. Which brings me to our server: Breann. Or Breanna. I apologize for not knowing which one. In my defense, I was busy entering a committed relationship with sushi. My daughter is moving to Denton, and since we don't live here, we asked what we should order. Breann/Breanna immediately became the Gandalf of menu navigation. There was no hesitation. No "everything is good." No vague server diplomacy. Just confident recommendations that absolutely delivered. She was kind, funny, helpful, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. More importantly, she made my daughter feel at home in a city she's about to call home. As a dad, that meant a lot. I also loved how Komodo Loco celebrated Pride Month. Not because restaurants have to weigh in on everything, but because the atmosphere simply communicated: "Hey, you're welcome here." And honestly, that's one of the best things a restaurant can do. Good food fills your stomach. A welcoming place fills the room. Komodo Loco managed to do both. So yes, I'll be back every time I'm in Denton. My daughter thinks she's moving here for school. I think she's moving here so I'll have an excuse to eat at Komodo Loco several times a year. One of us is probably right.

Food was great, but the service was slower than expected. My husband and I came with two friends--we were seated right away and ordered drinks quickly. It wasn't very busy at the time, but our drinks still took about ten minutes to arrive. We started with potstickers, which were delicious, and our little one's avocado came out quickly, which we appreciated. However, after placing our order, we noticed several tables seated after us receiving their food before we did. At one point, we were concerned our order may have been overlooked. When the food finally arrived, it was very good--no complaints there--but the wait was a bit disappointing, especially since most of what we ordered were appetizers. Overall, we'd still come back, just hoping for a smoother experience next time.

They do not steal. The tip didn't get double charged. It looked that way but it's off my transaction list now. So I took off my original review where I thought I got my tip double charged. Anyways, if you come here, they are nice servers and a nice manager. The pork bao was so good it's not even funny. The noodles and rice were mid. The vibe is cool modern cyberpunkish, New York brick style feel. If they did away with the bright ceiling lights and installed colorful LEDs or cool warm or blue neon street sign style lights instead would be better, and add table lights to be able to see your food would 10x the vibe. Sorry for the original where I claimed Yall stole from me by double charging the tip. So I'm righting the wrong here

My absolute favorite place in Denton! Always my first choice! Food is always great! Love the vibe! And the bartenders/servers are awesome!

Komodo Loco in Denton is one of those places that just gets the balance right--great food, fun vibe, and something a little different from the usual spots around the Square. The Asian-Latin fusion menu is creative without being weird about it. The sushi rolls are packed with flavor, the ingredients taste fresh, and everything feels thoughtfully put together. It's the kind of place where you go in planning to try one thing and end up wanting to come back to work your way through the menu. The atmosphere is laid-back and lively, perfect for grabbing a casual dinner or drinks with friends. Staff is friendly. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Denton and want something a little more interesting than the standard Tex-Mex lineup.

The cure salmon dish. Good, kinda strange.

Good food and great happy hour. My wife and I stopped by during a visit to Denton's Halloween which is super cool, but I digress. The place is real homey and very approachable. We stopped in around 5pm and found they have happy hour which was a nice surprise. We ordered a few items off that menu, but also wanted to try some regular items as well. The tuna and krab cones were really nice and light. Perfect to share over drinks. We always get an order of escolar when we find it. It was nicely cut and scored which made for an excellent chew. The last item to arrive was salmon dish called the cure. It had nice, thick slices of salmon with torched skin over a bed of soba noodles. It was okay and kind of strange. The torch really did a number on the skin. I would have preferred and hot skillet sear since the torch left it bitter and dusty from the ash. We are glad we tried it but wouldn't get it again. The service was great. We never ran out of drinks and had no questions on the progress of our order. We will come back every time we visit Denton.

Never go to this place, the fried rice and the yakisoba are horrible.. I ordered a fried rice with Orange chicken sauce and they gave me the rice with the driest chicken I've ever tasted in my life, when I told the server she offered to bring me a separate sauce after 10 minutes because she never approached us to check if everything was okay.. I thought they would recognize something on my check and they didn't care even when the manager knew she was unhappy with her food.. In addition, they charged me the tip twice, they are crazy..

Was in town for a conference and used Yelp to scout out some nearby food options. Parking in the area is a bit tricky, but once you manage that, the walk around this little strip is easy and enjoyable. Lots of food and bar options nearby--it definitely has that small college town vibe (because it is one). I grabbed a seat at the bar and was greeted right away. Service was fast and friendly, which I appreciated since I was on a time crunch. I probably wouldn't return just because I'd want to explore other places if I'm ever back in town, but this spot did the job. What I ordered: Veg Out Roll Smoked Yellowtail Belly A mocktail (bartender's creation, since there's no mocktail menu) Food was fresh, well-prepared, and hit the spot. Solid choice if you're in the area.

Amazing place to snag a seat on a Friday night. Wow is all I can say. The food is amazing and the drinks are top tier. The bartenders are knowledgeable and give good recommendations. Make sure to get the LARGE loaded tots to share because they're addicting.

Honestly, this was such a great spot! Went there for the first time and realized it was happy hour with loads of options. Our waitress Victoria was so nice too. We got a couple of maki rolls, their loaded tots, miso soup, house salad (amazing dressing), a signature roll, and the bulgogi yakisoba. All dishes were great! Really enjoyed the variety offered. Also, loved the atmosphere and warm vibes.

I went with a friend on a Friday evening and had a great experience overall! The restaurant was decked out in Halloween decorations which we loved. We had the loco egg rolls which have chorizo, I've never had that combination and loved it! I also got the southern smoked ramen and my friend got the yakisoba. The only thing about my ramen was not impressed with are the eggs, even in the picture, their cook looks a bit off like they either overcooked or had them sitting a while. Another thing was we ordered diet Mexican Coke and was served flat about 3 times until the machine eventually worked. We thankfully had an attentive and great server that noticed they were flat and gave us a warning each time, and to let her know if they were flat. Because of her kindness and transparency it was no big deal, or else we would have been more hesitant to complain about them. I'd definitely come again.

This place is phenomenal! I was m town for a vid wrench and was not expecting anything super great. Luckily, my coworker suggest we try here and I admit I was blown away! In fact, it was so good I came here two nights in a row. The location is great with plenty of public parking down the street. The vibe is pretty hip and fits the food quite well. Both nights we shared several apps, and I ordered a sushi roll and a bowl of ramen. Everything that everyone had both nights was incredible! And on top of that, prices were great. I would definitely come here again, if ever back in the area.

Great food!! Great service!! I've never eaten anything here I didn't order again. Highly recommend, and Komodo is even great for those who don't eat sushi. Piggy Tots are soooo delicious!!

We had a reservation, which is recommended because the restaurant was very busy on a Saturday night in May. We opted to sit on the patio because the weather was gorgeous. I am not sure if the patio is climate controlled in the summer or not. But on that night we were there, the weather was mild so it was very pleasant. They have happy hour on Saturdays so I started with an IPA on tap and the wife had a Prosecco, also for happy hour prices. This is a tapas restaurant so I will try to remember all that we had. Manchego cheese board: excellent. The crisps and jam were perfect with the cheese. Potato torilla: excellent. The flavors melded very well and it was very tasty. It's filling so keep that in mind. Ceviche de jalapeno: excellent. Not too spicy, the shrimp and seafood was fresh with no fishy smell. The plantains were cooked perfectly, not greasy. Brisket on crostini: excellent. Forget the name but they are a winner. Brisket is good quality and the flavors come together nicely. Chicken skewer: excellent. They smartly use chicken thighs so the meat is juicy and tender. Tuna tartare: good. It actually was my least favorite. The quality was very good but it did not have much flavor. I needed some heat, some acid, something to give it a kick. We were absolutely stuffed and did not try dessert. Our server Marcellus was excellent. Very helpful and pleasant throughout. He never disappeared for too long. Overall, we had a great meal and will undoubtedly return here again.
