This place... Nails it, every time. Both white and fried. Most of the time I prefer white rice, much healthier. But, there's something magical happening with your taste buds when you eat their fried rice. Almost hard to put it in writing. I encourage you to visit and try it for yourself. Be the judge. The dishes are always, generous and presentable. The side salad with a pink dressing are among of my favorites. Salad always looks fresh, full of great ingredients. Side soup is always fresh, hot and delicious. Even though it's located at Lakeside, Flower Mound, every time I've visited, I've never felt in Flower Mound. They've done a great job making you feel transformed into a place of relaxation and enjoyment. Always clean and well lit. Bar area is another of my favorites to highlight. I don't drink alcohol but I've always appreciated a good bar setup. It's elegant and simplistic. And, of course, I can't forget that they have additional seating area if you want to have a fun presentation of watching how your food is made. Highly recommend! We had a great time at the Hanaya hibachi restaurant! It's a perfect spot for families and kids. Our Chef Ronnie put on such a fun show with all the tricks, flames, and jokes. The kids and adults were totally entertained from start to finish. The food was tasty and fresh, and the portions were generous. We chose Hanaya for our Christmas Eve dinner reservations. We have been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time and Christmas Eve seemed like the perfect celebration to do so. Unfortunately, we were very underwhelmed. Our waitress was the highlight of our experience. She was very attentive and on point. She gets five stars. Our hibachi chef was good as well - very entertaining presentation with a couple new tricks we haven't seen before. However, the food was average at best. We only had hibachi, so maybe the sushi is better? I had the hibachi tofu, and it was simply not good. I realize tofu is probably not an entrée that many people choose, but it was extremely gritty and difficult to eat. My husband said his shrimp and chicken were okay. Behind the festive Christmas lights, and the restaurant itself seemed to need some interior refreshing. I also have mixed feelings on the large screen TVs that are over the hibachi tables. While it was nice to keep an eye on the Cowboys game, most folks don't choose a hibachi restaurant as their football watching destination. The whole experience felt rushed. I understand that it was Christmas Eve and perhaps on a different evening we would have not felt like our dining experience was a race to the finish, but that is unacceptable at this price point. Booked a reservation for 7:00. Talked to some people around and met a guy who had a 5:30 reservation and it was 6:55 and he still had not been seated. A reservation is a mutual contract between the restaurant and the guests and they did not honor that. What kind of restaurant would take reservations a month in advance and have the chaos that iv witnessed year after year is beyond me. A 630 reservation pushed to 6:40 and then were given the option to sit dine in instead with our party of 8. Again scheduled a month in advance. I went here with my sister and her family while visiting from out of town. They eat here once in a while because her picky teenage girls really like it and the hibachi experience is always fun. Prices were reasonable and varied depending on type and quantity of proteins. I got the shrimp and scallops since I don't often have those at home. One could get streamed or fried rice (everyone at our table opted for fried) and there was a good selection of veggies including broccoli, zucchini, mushrooms, green pepper, and onions. Located in the Lakeside plaza, this Japanese restaurant is in perfect walking distance for those living the apartments and homes in the area. We came on a Wednesday evening and the place was already filling up! I assume everyone was hopping on their happy hour. They offer a great deal on $5.50 rolls (or 2 rolls for $10) and $5 appetizers. Happy Hour is available from 4:30pm-7pm Monday through Thursday (Dine-in only). We started off with the Heart of Hanaya which has salmon belly, tuna, octopus, squid, yellowtail, sweet shrimp and roe. It was very fresh and the presentation is impressive and great for the 'gram. I recommend this for a bigger group since it has a little bit of everything for people to try. Next we had the hibachi steak and lobster (we didn't sit in the hibachi section since we wanted our own table). The lobster was Brazilian and not your usual Maine lobster, which was a nice change as it gave a tender texture packed with flavor. It's served with lemon and butter for your liking but I feel like it stands perfectly on its own. The steak was great quality as well, a tender cut with a slight chew. We then shared the seafood ramen which had shrimp, scallop, naruto in a hearty broth. The noodles are more al dente and has that chewy "QQ" texture that I love. The broth is flavorful enough to coat the noodles and leans more authentic Japanese as they typically don't drink the broth, but it's great on its own and not too salty. It has a light ginger flavor to it which cuts through the pork broth and pairs well with the seafood. I usually prefer lighter broths since I can't handle that much salt but I thought it was just enough to enhance the flavors of the ramen instead of masking it. If you're craving hibachi, ramen or sushi, this is your place to go. It's great for groups or a cute sushi date. And why do they serve fried rice immediately, and then wait to bring the steamed rice? Pretty much your typical hibachi atmosphere, however, it looks exceptional clean! Crowd is exceptional noisy tonight, even for this type of dining. One waiter taking 2 tables orders... went slow. Large menu, with great looking selections. Pricing in line with other restaurants like this. Order the fillet and scallops. At all other hibachi restaurants I've been to, they serve a shrimp appetizer, but not here, apparently. Scallops came first, a nice portion and they tasted great. On the other hand, the filet was not prime (likely choice) and over cooked. The vegetables were mostly zucchini and onions (but I love onions) with broccoli (a plus), but only a piece or two of mushroom. The chef put on a great show, but overall, mark me disappointed. This was my first time here, and I always hope that it was just a bad night/not typical. But given all my choices for hibachi restaurant, I'll probably go someplace else next time. read more

I was the in the area and needed grub before hitting up a yoga session in FloMo. The pics on Yelp looked awesome and I had a hankering for a Philly roll! I ordered to go and the restaurant seemed fairly busy so I waited a bit and got my grub. I also ordered a small side of fried rice fresh off of the hibachi grill. The Philly roll was very fresh and hearty. It lacked a bit of the Philly roll flavor that I was looking for however it was still tasty. The fried rice was alright to me. I think moving forward I will stick to the rolls and sashimi at this place. They have pretty large size bar area and also really nice hibachi rooms for special occasions and/or large groups. I think if I was in the area I would return but not go out of my way. The area that it is in is beautiful and there is lots to do plus beautiful sky views. read more

Went here for my sisters birthday dinner and I was excited as the ambience was nice and the host was very hospitable. I appreciate they had a table big enough for 10 and it wouldn't have been too crowded, even though we didn't have 10 in the party and they allowed us to split checks. Our server is one of the reasons for the 2 stars. He was very dry, spilled a drink on one of our guests white blazer, didn't provide refills in a timely manner and just didn't make the experience memorable. The hibachi chef on the other hand was great; very entertaining (even though I've been to plenty of hibachi places and feel I have see it all) and he listened to all our (well, my) requests to ensure the food was cooked correctly. Overall, the food was just alright. There were many compliments of the soup having a great taste, but I didn't necessarily care for the "miso like" taste in it; could have been just me, though. The rice was good but everything else was just there and seemed to lack seasoning. Now, my sister and cousin ordered a sushi dish with shrimp, other seafood and some kind of sauce on it, and that was really good. I didn't eat the actual sushi, but the topping and sauce was great. I do like how they also offer ramen, chinese and other dishes as well...so I would've been open to trying other things and hoping for a different server...however.... ....when it was time to pay our server stood there until everyone provided their cards, which was annoying. It gave off a "hurry up and give me your payment" feel and about 3 or 4 minutes later, a lady returned to the table and asks if I gave them my card. Long story short, they lost my card. It happens (actually, that has NEVER HAPPENED, but its not the end of the World), but my issue was after at least 10 mins and everyone else at the table receiving their cards, our server continued to act as if everything was ok stating they were printing my receipt and my card/receipt was coming--and that was only communicated when one of our guests got up and tracked him down; but overall, LIES. I could see in my peripheral them tearing up the area looking for my card. EVENTUALLY the manager came over and stated they misplaced my card, offered to pay the fee for a new card AND THEN asked if I had another card to provide to pay. Uh no, I don't...and no, I am not asking anyone else in the party to pay either. Eventually he ate the cost of our meal (there was two of us on my ticket), but the nerve! To add insult to injury, and I know he was attempting to lighten the mood, he kept making jokes about if he found the card he would charge me twice, since he'd have to apply a late fee. I get it, it was unfortunate for all but the timing of the jokes were just off. I was annoyed. I left my info and never heard from the restaurant about my card; it's probably in a landfill by now...and oh well, a new one is on the way but what a complete pain in the A to have to go through everything when a card is misplaced. The food was pretty good. The way that they decided to seat our party was not. We were here for a birthday and came about an hour early to put our name in. They refused to take our name for the waitlist until everyone was there (what?). So we waited 50 minutes for the three other people and put the name in. Then we all got to stand there for another 30 minutes and wait to be seated. There was literally no one else in the restaurant and there is a better way to handle that. The restaurant is small & cozy. We really enjoyed being able to see the the sushi bar. They have a great happy hour & portions were generous.
