Amazing place! I am visiting from California, and the customer service was outstanding. We ordered our food to go, and they kindly seated us at a table while we waited. They even served us a salad and water during the wait, which was such a thoughtful touch. The food was delicious! We started eating here last summer and were impressed with the food, ambience and service. However, the last 3 times we have eaten here, since October, the food has declined. I consistently get the chicken katsu. The last 3 times it was overcooked and chewy, the breading too brown, and the breading slid off. This last time we went this week in January, and probably our last, service was awful. The young girl barely greeted us and sort of just told us at the middle of the restaurant where to sit. Then, our party of 3 ordered. As our lunch was delivered, my husband didn't get anything. We thought maybe they were just behind. I finally called her over and asked about his meal. Instead of being helpful, she copped an attitude and immediately pulled out her ticket book and said, "No! He didn't order! He said egg rolls!" I looked at her and said, "I heard him order the bento box" and he said he had. My daughter even heard it. She continued to argue and I just told her never mind, I didn't want to argue with her. There were no helpful solutions from her such as, "I am so sorry I didn't hear you (or most likely understand him), why don't I put the order in for you now?" Nope! So we sat awkwardly eating while my husband just sat there. He went next door at Marco's to order a pizza to take home. We eat out a lot and it seems to us this younger generation need lessons on how to talk to people and take accountability. We were nice to her. But she immediately took offense and didn't take steps to attempt to solve the problem. Lazy! We will not return here as these Japanese sushi restaurants are a dime a dozen now. read more

The food is super good! I eat a lot of sushi and know when fish is fresh or not good quality and the fish here was really soft and good quality. I'm glad so find a new sushi spot, however the ramen is a little interesting on flavor, almost tasting more mexican-ish than traditionally ramen but it still had a good flavor. LOVE KOJI Koji is one of my top spots to eat in Denton around our neighborhood on the South Side of Denton. Their entire menu is simple but the simplicity taste so good. Their consistently tasty dishes have helped keep me and my family as regulars. Their consistently tasty service is always on point and all of the waiters know the menu and always offer up suggestions. The restaurant is always clean and well taken care of making for a warm and inviting dining experience. This is my first review of Koji but we have been over a dozen times since the name has changed. First time visiting. We tried the hibachi meals and they were good. We had to have them made gluten free which they accomidated. No gf salad or soup option however. I do wish they offered lunch portions and pricing. The staff was very sweet, and the restaurant was clean with decor I really liked. If you order sashimi and try that before dippin into your dolled up rolls you can assess the quality of fish the establishment invests in. Did the sashimi check with fatty yellowtail and it melted in my mouth so buttery smooth as it should be! Given that I'm in Japan 5-7x a year I can confirm this is really good sushi. Please don't sleep on it. The establishment is super cute, can host larger groups and the service was great. We went in the evening quite late and was really happy to see that it was open. Many of the other sushi places we go to are closed on Monday', so kudos to Koji for identifying the demand! If you're around don't sleep on this place and let me know what your thoughts! read more

We ordered our food, and marked our sushi rolls on the paper that was given to us. We never received the such rolls, and when we inquired about them.... I was told that we did not order any on the paper. The waitress brought the paper to the table and proceeded to show me that we did NOT order any, BUT WE DID, I promptly pointed out the marked rolls. The food was subpar, the beef in our teriyaki bento box was very tough, and over cooked. The rice on the plate was hard and cold. It was almost as if they put it on the plate and let it sit there all afternoon until someone car and ordered the plate. The tempura was very dry and over fried. When we finally received the sushi, it was over sauced and horrible. Cut very uneven, and not even chewable. I spitting in a napkin. No wasabi given with the sushi either. Portions are super small. This place was GREAT. We walked in on a Tuesday afternoon, just in time for the lunch menu. We were seated promptly and the waitress was really sweet. This was our first time here so we didn't expect much because we've tried lots of sushi places around town and they just didn't have IT. I'm so glad we stopped into this place. We ordered the sushi bento box, my husband loved it. My oldest got the cowboy sushi, and it was huge! I told her next we'll get that for everyone to munch on, it could be a family appetizer. I got 2 orders of salmon sushi and also ordered the cucumber salad. I love sunamono salad, it has 2 pieces of stick crab which I've never had it that way. My order consisted of the following: Flying Fish Roe (Tobiko) not riceless but love the tobiko! Vegetable Tempura was hot and fresh Now for the riceless rolls: Chef's Special - 4 kinds of fish, crab, Japanese carrots, asparagus, avocado, wrapped in cucumber and tobigo with pozu sauce. Butterfly Kiss, spicy - special crab wrapped in salmon with ponzu sauce with avocado. Spring Roll - tuna, whitefish, crab, asparagus, avocado, mango, lettuce, cilantro, wrapped in rice paper with a sweet chili sauce. Caribbean Roll - yummy salmon, tuna, crab, avocado, asparagus, mango,and yamagobo in rice paper. Everything was so good without all of the carbs from the rice. Their pricing leaves A LOT to be desired... my fish katsu was just slightly better than a filet'o-fish from McDonalds but at almost $15 bucks, you might want to just go to McDonalds. $3+ for hot tea is also a bit absurd as well... it's just tea guys... service was ok, although I had to ask for water 3 times before it showed up (I was afraid they would've charged me another $3+ for a tea refill)... my kids chicken katsu was dry, the sushi was decent but again over priced. They're fairly new and have a parent restaurant in Plano/Richardson. We started with some sake - and other drinks, the White Tuna Tadaki, shrimp Shumai, miso and salads. Everything came out quickly! I was surprised about how good the Tadaki was and really could've ordered that as my entree. Each lovely piece had a little pile of crunchy fried garlic on it. One of the more interesting dishes I've had at a sushi place in a while. The ginger dressing was really tasty too and the shumai! My hubby ordered some roll with cream cheese and fried shrimp. I ordered a chirashi bowl. That also came out quickly. I loved the egg on my bowl and shared some of the sashimi pieces. It was not very busy but I can assure you, you'll want to stop in and give it a try. I'm still thinking of that Tadaki a week after the visit! This was our first time here so I can't wait to go back and try more! They have a sashimi salad, Hamachi Kama (grilled tuna cheek), a variety of interesting bento boxes and tempura udon! I was actually surprise by how much I liked it. First, it has been remodeled and has a modern/Japanese look with cherry blossom trees. They have some very interesting sushi roll choices. What stood our to me about Koji that is different from anywhere else is that I went in the evening for dinner, and they had sushi roll specials! That's right, they had $12 rolls to choose from that would easily be $17-$25 anywhere else. Now, I went during the week, so I am uncertain if they offer this on a weekend, so double check. I also like that they brought out a complimentary roll slice of what they called a "cutie" roll--which was cucumber outside (no rice) and crab mixture inside....I thought it was a nice gesture that other places do not do. The service was incredible, and the pricing in my opinion is a littler lower than other similar places. I encourage you to give it a try. read more
