To run through the evening courses let's start with the opening app and cocktail. The Chips & Dip, house made seasoned chips with a perfect Blue Cheese dip with caramelized shallots, I suggest ordering an extra cup of the dip as there are an abundance of chips. My first cocktail was perfect or shall we say a "Pear-Fect Manhattan". This play on the Manhattan had a hint of pear and was spirit forward. We continued the evening with two sharable plates, the first was the Tenderloin Steak Bites served with a perfect Wasabi Kimchi Sauce. As tender as it was, the steak could have used more seasoning or being marinated in that delicious sauce. The second sharable was the Chile Seared Shrimp, placed atop delicious Cheesy Grits, very yummy. The evening ended with the most amazing dessert and paired cocktail. By all means, do yourself a favor and indulge in the most decadent Butter Cake drizzled in a Bourbon Caramel Sauce paired with a Amaretto Sour cocktail. You wouldn't necessarily know it, but the White Rabbit nestled in this strip mall sets itself up with the ambiance as a high end establishment.

I ordered the Rib Roast Dip. It was very good. I ate half there and boxed up the other half. the other half was actually better the next day! My friend got the Chimi-asada bowl and reported it was very good. Overall, my first visit was very good! We even made plans to return the following week.

We started with cheese curds. Loved that they were batter fried and not breaded. Very tasty and a huge app portion. My entree was the pulled pork sandwich with bbq beans. Everything was very good. Pork had a savory flavor and it was nice and tender. Portions were large. Topped it all off with a Hazy Little Thing beer. Great service. Easy parking. Just off a major road. Great stop.

He told me back then that someday we needed to check out J&J's. We love small business, local, non-chain restaurants. I decided to surprise my husband and take him to J&J's for Father's Day. We are empty nesters, so it was just the two of us for lunch. We arrived just after 12 p.m. There was a line out the door, which we expected since it was Father's Day and Sunday lunchtime. We were told it would be a 15-20 minute wait for a table, which we had no issue with. We ended up waiting less than 10 minutes because there was a table available on the patio. The weather was beautiful, and with summer being so short in Minnesota, we like to take advantage of it whenever we can. Our server came to our table shortly after we were seated, but it was long enough that we both had time to decide what we wanted before she arrived. I ordered the Texas Philly, and my husband had the brisket sandwich. We had to wait a while for our food, which we understood given how busy the restaurant was. Others around us were complaining about the wait, and those tables had a different server who was very apologetic about the kitchen being backed up. The hand-cut fries were piping hot and seasoned perfectly. It's so rare to go out to eat and get hot fries, let alone fries that are piping hot. That alone was worth the wait! My husband loved the brisket sandwich, and the Texas Philly was SO good--piled full of meat. We live in the south metro, but it was well worth the 30+ minute drive to get there. We'll definitely be back and will absolutely recommend J&J's to others!

Wonderful savory and sweet waffle creations - 5 stars!…read more Tonight I caught up with The Bougie Waffle at Alloy Brewing in Coon Rapids. Everything looked so good, I truly had a hard time picking what I wanted. So I ended up getting 4 different items. Okay...so I ordered 2 of the signature items. First, I tried "The Sweet Chick" with a sweet potato waffle, fried chicken, maple glaze, with spices, topped with a few sliced jalapenos. Wow - heavenly! I also ordered the signature "SMACKaroni" mac & cheese creation with several cheeses including Gouda. Again, a home run. Both of these dishes were a smaller size so they came together in one clamshell box. The mac & cheese functioned more as a yummy savory side. It was perfect. I was so delighted with the flavors, I went back and I ordered 2 more foods to take home. I got the savory "Chicken Dumplin" waffle, topped off with diced scallions. It came with a side of fried rice. And last but not least, I went with a super sweet selection, "Nana's Puddin" waffle with sliced bananas, nilla wafer cookies, caramel, and whipped cream - Ya' Man! Every bite was excellent. If you look closely at the waffles, they're more than just standard waffles. I noticed lots of detailed little ingredients and spices. They're definitely unique and the flavors are nice and balanced, not overpowering. I don't hand out many 5 star reviews but The Bougie Waffle definitely earns it! I love, love, love the food. And I really enjoyed chatting with the owner. She was very nice and cheery, despite the chilly temps and the windy fall night. Burrr!!! According to the owner, she recently moved up from a small vendor cart to a fully outfitted food trailer. I wish them many years of success. Thumbs up! -Maxx
