On this night we wanted to keep it light so we started with the Japanese pickles which were a vibrant and crisp mix of veggies. Then a miso soup with fried rolled tofu sheets and lots of fresh green onions. We can never pass up his and hers unagi nigiri, and these were perfection: warm, sweet, and buttery on the tongue. Then it was time for makimono. Sushi in Japan tends to be simpler with a focus on expertly cut fresh fish, but at Umaimon they depart from the classics to play to the American palate with ingredients like cream cheese and mango. Now these are not the most creative offerings you'll find in the 305, but they do offer solid choices done well. He had the Twin Dragon and I couldn't pass on the Sugar Daddy. Now, is this the best Japanese/sushi place you're going to find in Miami? Probably not. But is it the most kawaii? Quite possibly.
