Jeff's a nice guy, his truck is clean, and the idea is novel... but he bills his product as shaved ice. It isn't. He sells snow cones. Shaved ice is finer and more delicate than the crushed ice of snow cones. That being said, for $3, you get a cup of crushed ice that you can flavor however much or little you like. The flavoring is self-serve and you have something like 9 flavors to choose from. I chose a couple of different flavors, but didn't find either particularly appealing. One of them left an aftertaste in my mouth. I'd rate Kona Ice higher, but I truly have had much better. read more

I find myself almost expecting less than good customer service these days, so when I experience EXCELLENT service it almost knocks me out. Last Friday was Employee Appreciation day and we didn't realize it until late that morning. My SVP of HR wanted to do something nice for our employees and asked that I look into bringing an ice cream truck or something like it to the facility. Kona Ice was my first call, and my luckiest. Jeff answered the phone professionally and enthusiastically agreed to do a last minute event for us at such an amazingly reasonable price! We entertained 100 people for less than $3.50 a head, and that included a 20% added gratuity! The flavors were delicious. I had the Pina Colada and loved it. Everyone else raved about their experience overall. I mean, where do you find a truck that will come to your office, play fun music and serve delicious shaved ice with a four hour notice? Folks, this does not happen every day. Most important, Jeff made me look good to my executives, and for that I will recommend him to other businesses moving forward. This truck is great. The product is delicious and there is a great deal of choices. They came to our church event in Encino all the way from Valencia in the pouring rain and stoically stayed for the entire event even though the cold wet weather was not good for serving shaved ice. Once a few of the kids tried it and loved it many more did the same I can just imagine how many would have been enjoyed had the weather cooperated. I contacted Jeff about doing a Corporate Employee event. He returned my call very quickly even when he was busy doing an event. The process was very easy. I decided at the same time to also book my daughters Sweet 16 party. The truck came up our street at night, with the music going and the lights all on, it was so cool. The teenagers all loved it and I must say, so did the adults! At work, all of the employees loved the refreshing treat. There are so many flavors to choose from and mix together too. Kona Ice was a BIG hit with our hospital staff at Palmdale Regional Medical Center in Palmdale, CA for our Hospital Week BBQ celebration. Jeff was extremely friendly and the truck and ice with flavorings were clean and delicious. Being a hospital, cleanliness is SO important. We held our BBQ outside and Jeff would periodically wash off the sidewalk and the flavor islands with water fresh out of a hose so that we weren't walking on anything sticky - and it kept our hospital grounds looking great after an occasional drip or spill. We really appreciated that. That was extra service that was not asked for, but fantastic that we got it. The shaved ice was fantastic. Kona Ice Rocks as a fundraiser! We have Kona Ice come to our elementary school every Wednesday in the Fall from the 2nd week of school until the weather gets cool and then again in the spring from March through the end of May. We also hire Kona Ice for our large on campus events like Back to School Night, Open House, carnivals, Fall Festival. We have raised a lot of money each year to support our 6th Grade Promotion costs and our Parent Teacher Organization. Jeff is always on time, friendly and professional. The pricing is fair and the kids, parents and teachers love it! Kids can get a treat right after school for as little as $3.00. The most expensive cup is $6.00. However, if the kids buy a reusable cup and bring it each week, they get a refill for $3.00 - It's a great value! Jeff Katz's equipment is always clean and beautiful. He has the best equipment to get the job done! He brings a small cart for after school fundraising but can bring his big truck for larger events like Open House and school carnivals and festivals. I can't emphasize how clean everything is. The line moves fast because he just gives the kids their shaved ice in a cup and then they get to choose their flavors. There are flavor dispensing spigots on both sides of the smaller cart, so the line moves really fast. As a fundraising parent, you show up for less than 45 minutes each week and walk away with your profits. Quick and easy way to raise money for your school! read more
