Kona Ice is great for parties and get-togethers when you have a group of people (and prices are very reasonable too!), but I took a chance and called their number to see if I could pop over wherever the truck was parked for a shaved ice treat for myself. And lucky for me, the truck was parked only 2 miles away from where I was calling from! Sooooo refreshing - I got cherry and lime, my sister got raspberry and island rush, with vanilla ice cream, and my nephew got a little bit of all the flavors. I attended a kids birthday party over the weekend and they had the Kona Ice truck come. They showed up and were on time. I was disappointed in the quality & taste of the flavors. I got Watermelon & Lime. It was flavorless and I only could taste the artificial sweetener like sucralose or stevia, which I don't care for. I am used to quality vibrant flavors like at Rita's. We ordered Kona Ice to stop by our house during quarantine and it was a GREAT experience. My kids were so excited. Signing up was easy, online you chose a time (they can show up from up to 2 hours before or 2 hours after your selected time, which is understandable considering driving all over town to random addresses). You also prepay online, so that there is no additional unnecessary physical contact, which I appreciated. We got the color changing cups for our kids which are really cool. During these weird times of social distancing and the fear of Covid-19, my youngest daughter Sophia turned nine and was unable to have a traditional birthday. My wife came up with some great ideas to make Sophia's birthday special. She hired a mobile DJ to come to the house to celebrate Sophia's birthday with any neighbor that heard the DJ and wanted to join in the celebration. To continue the birthday celebration, my wife contacted Kona Ice to stop by the house for some refreshing Hawaiian Ice. Jeff, the owner, came by with his truck and all the great flavors, and served all that heard the music and wanted a refreshing Hawaiian Ice. Jeff explained that he had to redo his business plan due to The social distancing and everyone staying home during these times. So friendly and amazing! Jeff, the owner, was so kind and generous and had such amazing delicious flavors! Would 100% recommend!

For what it is, it definitely deserves a 5 star rating. The truck was where it was promised to be, and was on time, if not early. The owner/driver (Jeff, I believe) was friendly and professional. The pricing was fair, and the do it yourself machine was a huge hit with the kids (and many of the adults). For me personally, there are a bunch of other desserts I would prefer over shaved ice, but Kona is the best shaved ice I have tasted. Plus, all that really matters is the kids loved it. As a parent, what I appreciated was the customer service and cleanliness of the truck. It looked freshly washed and was well kept. Jeff was also quick to point out the convenient napkin/wipe placement just next to the flavor dispensers. The owner told me his side of his lone 1 star review, and his story seemed genuine. If you are considering his truck for your next event, I would suggest giving Jeff a call before letting the 1 complaint deter you. When she asked him that, Jeff said to her "oh you're one of those weird girls trying to count calories." She responded telling him that she just didn't like her Kona Ice too sweet. He responded saying (again) "you're one of those weirdos who ..." My daughter is 17 years old. She was embarrassed and shocked by his comments to her as she was just trying to order a simple Kona Ice from him. I was at an event today where they were serving Kona Ice. Our event lasted until 1pm. A couple of us went about 12:55 to get one last serving of ice. You could easily tell the man serving us was upset we came so last minute. As we made our Kona ice there was a little boy, about 10 years old, who was also working the event. He came up to get some ice before it was over and the man told him very rudely that it was closed and slammed the window on him! I went on the Kona Ice Truck website and was able to have an order delivered to my house. Jeff called approx 5 minutes before he arrived and it was such a wonderful surprise for my nephews when the truck pulled up at the end of my driveway.
